| カスタマーレビュー: Hot vampires, hotter angels (2008-08-19) Hmmm....wow. I think in this instance I would like to give more than five stars. "The Prince's Angel" is a finely crafted urban fantasy with a beautiful gay romance at the heart. And with it, they take slow built passion to a new level. The two protagonists dance around each other, and their own feelings, suffering a lot of angst in the process. Quite delicious, really, as is the sex when they finally give in to one another. This is not to say there is a lack of horizontal action in the book; it just enhances the story rather than being the story. Oh, and the authors took the trouble to build a plot with mystery and action too. Naughty authors. In the 1970's, vampires' existence was revealed to the world. In the present, they have rights, but also a ruling body with laws to govern them. Any vampire who acts outside these laws is rogue. Mael Black is the vampire Prince of London. And he has a steadily growing rogue problem. Now, many authors have inserted vampires into "regular" society as a story vehicle. Similarities to to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake universe (with Princes of a City rather than Master of a City) can be seen, but there is a new twist. Heaven isn't just some vague notion - and angels are real. Enter Cian Carmichael. He is one of many angels sent by God to protect humanity and hunt rogues. Yup, he has wings! As the problem in London reaches dangerous levels, Cian will have to join forces with Mael to determine the cause. Complications arise when Cian realizes he's falling in love with Mael - a union between a vampire and an angel should never be. Should it And what lengths will Cian go to protect Mael when a plot to assassinate them both disrupts their investigation and they learn the rogues lead back to the highest levels of power This novel is well-written and fast paced, with excellent dialog and a rich plot. Cian and Mael are completely three-dimensional with flaws, virtues, and all the range of emotions of real people. Readers will fall for them even more quickly than they fall for each other. The supporting characters are also well done and given enough backstory to make their parts come alive. Though the ending has closure, there are questions left unanswered, and unrequited love that needs requiting, that beg for a sequel - which a little bird told me will happen. Buy it now. Angels and Vampires Together (2008-06-03) This book held me in its grip from the first page with its brooding, dark, gothic mood which ratcheted up the suspense that never let go until the very end. What can I say that will do it justice and give the readers a sense of what awaits I'll start where else, at the beginning.A bit of background is important to set the scene. In 1962 the world became aware of the existence of vampires and this precipitated a war involving several countries and a faction of vampires that broke away from the Romanorum, the governing body of the Diocourides Society which rules vampires. The Diocourides reached agreement with the United States in 1970 which officially recognized vampires as US citizens and since then humans and vampires have lived together in peace. The year is now 2005 and in the City of London Prince Mael Black governs the vampires who live there. However, the faction of vampires that attempted several years ago to take over several international cities now wants to destroy the peace in London by creating rogue vampires and their main target is Mael. Cian Carmichael, an angel, a sorcerer and executioner of rogue vampires first meets the Prince at a mutual `kill' and the sexual undercurrents between them are apparent immediately although they both try to ignore them because they don't believe that angels and vampires can be lovers. But with menace coming from every direction, the looming danger conspires to bring them together as they form an uneasy alliance to counter the threat. In the midst of everything going on in Mael's world he is given a most difficult, almost impossible task to accomplish and he has to determine whether Cian is what he appears to be on the surface and if he can be trusted, because Cian is the only one who can help him. During the conflict and almost open warfare happening around them, Mael's and Cian's love story evolves and plays out and there is so much emotion between these two characters it bleeds off the pages. With creatures on all sides, even those in the highest offices seizing every opportunity to harm Mael, our two heroes have a lot to contend with at the same time as they explore and try to resist their volatile attraction to each other. Despite their best intentions they give in to the inevitable and it is a conflagration that neither can extinguish. Mael and Cian are polar opposites in looks as well as temperament but the differences are not quite what they appear. Mael is beautiful but dark as would be expected of a creature of the night; however he has other characteristics that endear him to the reader. Cian, whose golden aura seems to glow, also has a dark side as he lives in the shadows to fulfill his very dangerous mission of hunting down and killing rogue vampires. In The Prince's Angel Mychael Black and Shayne Carmichael have created a world where belief is suspended in a story that is original, fast paced and as complex as the two flawed protagonists. The authors take the time to introduce these three dimensional characters and a wonderful supporting cast to the reader and build the story and the anticipation level before Mael and Cian become lovers. When they do, the sex is as delightful, delicious and exhilarating as readers have come to expect from this duo that have made writing about sex an art form in itself. The plot is rich in complexity, ingenious, clever, and intense; the story is also horrifying and bloody at the same time but it is so riveting and engrossing it left me breathless and wishing for more of the same. The story oozes with emotion and tension which weaves its way between Mael and Cian. Books from these two writers' imagination are an auto-buy for me because I have never been disappointed by them. He is dark and dangerous, but he is like a pater familiae for his vampires: he takes care of them and like an old warlord he holds court to listen to their problem. He is not a lonely warrior. Cian Carmichael instead is a lonely warrior, an angel who has lived too many years among the madness of the human world and now his behaviour is more similar to human people than angels. He is a hunter of rogue vampires but he fights alone, in the shadows of the city. Cian is irremediably drawn to Maen, but a vampire and an angel is an impossible couple. But love maybe can create a place among two different existence to allow to two lover to share their bodies and at the end also their hearts. The very originality of this novel is that the darker character is Cian, the angel, he walks alone in the shadows, instead Mael, the vampire, has duties that oblige him to deal with an entire court of people. A very romantic gothic novel setting in a modern London but with the atmosphere of endless time. This is not the tale of a fallen angel, but his quest for the true love. They have produce another sexy, erotic vampire story.. and thrown a sensual Angel in the mix!Their writing is flawless with well developed characters and wonderful rich stories with excellent descriptive writing! More importantly...they give us an erotic and poignant story of two flawed men who might find in each other the deepest of emotions brought to the surface in a mutual love that neither could imagine.
