I also would like the television industry to consider a network channel dedicated to just 70s Childrens' programming ( The Magic Garden, New Zoo Revue, Electric Company, Romparoom, Kid Power (Wee Pals)etc. Boomerang and TVLand are a good start but are missing this scope in particular. These shows are a refreshing look-back to when you could be an aware, thinking individual and not get crammed with reality show spin-offs.』
(It's a very good show I used to watch, and WBGH, thanks for the tape. Please WBGH, Release all the Episodes!) 『WBGH and PBS, thanks for putting out this videotape. I'd really love it if you could release all the 70's Zoom Episodes. That would be so incredible. Please put them out as Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4, and so on and so on. But it's an incredible tape to see and it brought back nice situations and memories to remember. Thanks for putting this tape out and I appreciate it.
Thanks.
』
(Excellent Retrospective) 『Anyone who grew up watching Zoom in the 70's will find this video a thoroughly enjoyable trek down memory lane that stands up to repeated viewings. For kids who have never seen it, you will not be disappointed! Games, raps, Zoom-dos, musical numbers, ubbi dubbi, zoom guests, Fannee Doolee's, and finally, the complete opening theme of all 6 seasons are all here. Thank you, WBGH, for releasing this excellent retrospective, but don't stop now - - please release some complete episodes, especially from the first three seasons (I thought the cast from those seasons were the coolest kids on earth!)!』
(Great Memories) 『This brings back such wonderful memories! The video is an outstanding collection of clips from the hit 70's TV show - - the first show ever made for kids by kids. I only hope that WGBH releases more editions - - I would very much like to see something akin to "the best of season 1" or "the best musical numbers", etc. - - what we have so far just whets the appetite! I've now seen it many times and am thoroughly entertained by each viewing. And - - surprise bonus - - my 18-month old son can't get enough of it!』
(Great Memories...But Incomplete) 『This video was a great concept. However, as a huge original ZOOM fan I feel a little slighted. The bits were fantastic (Fannee Doolee, John Henry, ZOOMers in Wonderland, ZOOM Play of the Week)and it sure brought back a lot of memories for me. Unfortunately, most of the musical numbers and bits were cut short and it kind of leaves you hanging; craving to see more. The video is approximately 40 minutes, and they tried to cram 6 years worth of material in such a short amount of time. Perhaps the best part of this video is the end, where it shows the opening sequence to all 6 seasons. It introduces all of the kids, but because the video is so short, you only get to see a fraction of their talent, and some you don't even get see at all.
I wish that WGBH would release actual complete episodes by season on DVD. Although I am 35 years old, I can still watch this show and be greatly entertained. It takes me back to a time when my only real problem in life was getting my homework done!! Zoom really holds up over the years; it was a superb television show for kids!!』
『Come on and ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM-A-ZOOM again! Never before available on video, now you can relive your favorite bits from ZOOM, the super-hot Emmy award-winning PBS kids' show from the 70's. As fresh as ever, kids of the 90's will love it too!
In the first TV series inspired, written and performed by kids, ZOOMers—a cast of ordinary kids—used material submitted by viewers to act out plays, talk openly about their lives, experiment with games and cooking, sing, dance, and of course have fun.
From Ubbi-Dubbi (a language that drove some teachers crazy when groups of kids used it at school) to ZOOMraps, ZOOMdos to Fannee Doolees, experience the sheer joy of ZOOM all over again. Featured segments include original musical numbers like ZOOMers in Wonderland and John Henry, a visit with a girls ice hockey team, making Stained Glass Cookies, creating the ultimate sandwich, and games like Story Concentration.
If the most musical zip code in history, 0-2-1-3-4, means something special to you, then experience the memories of ZOOM, and remember what it was like to be a kid in the 70's. And be sure to tune in to the new ZOOM, on public television.』
『The show with "the most musical zip code in history" (anyone born in the U.S. between 1965 and 1970 can reel off "0-2-1-3-4" in song) has collected some moments from the original six seasons (the show has been remade for the '90s) inZoom: Best of the 70's. WhileZoomis certainly a show for children, this retrospective is definitely geared more for Gen-X nostalgia than for the youth of today. With the Zoom Raps (no, not a musical number, but a discussion group) about funding for girls sports (in the days when Title IX was a hot topic), the funky hair styles, and the muted sets, memories of Big Wheels and bell-bottoms will come flooding back.
While this is a fun venture back in time, unfortunately too much of the 40-minute video is spent on showing the opening numbers and cast from every season and not enough time with Fannee Doolees ("Fannee Doolee hates to read, but loves a good book") and Merry Macs ("Miss Merry Mac, Mac, Mac, all dressed in black, black, black"). But "Zoomers in Wonderland" and "John Henry," as well as the fantastical plays and Zoom Dos, make this worthwhile. One caveat: apparently one must be under the age of 12 to understand Ubbi-Dubbi. This formerly fluent reviewer found she could barely understand every fourth word.--Jenny Brown』
IPhone 3G used's review (ENTERTAINING) 『I actually was at that concert and boy what a show. Beres is very entertaining. We all hoped that the show would not come to an end. The dvd was as expected, very entertaining. It was like being at the concert for a second time.』
(Beres Hammond: Music is Life - Live from New York) 『This is a Great DVD! I enjoy listening to Beres each time. I can let his music play all day while relaxing and doing house chores. (Makes cleaning much more enjoyable! :} And not to mentioned Maxie he was Superb and a treat! This is a must have for Ladies who are Beres and Maxie Fans.』
(Great DVD!!!) 『This DVD is well put together. Anyone who loves reggae music will enjoy this. Beres is the "King" of Lovers Rock.』
(For SERIOUS lover's rock reggae fans) 『"Father Beres" should be more widely known as he has been producing top reggae artists for decades. If you know anything about top reggae producers of the 80's and 90's you will know about Sly and Robbie and then you should also know Beres Hammond! His music is for the serious lover's rock fan, but he is known for producing music for the likes of Shabba Ranks, Maxi Priest and Buju Banton. This DVD showcases his albums of the past and present up to the album "Music is Life".
The ONLY flaw of the DVD is the 5.1 mix could have been a tad bit better, as there is a tad bit too much reverb, BUT if you set your DVD player to "pro logic" mode or know how to tweak the delay in your DVD audio settings this will be no set back to you at all. Compared to other top live reggae dvd's, it't a gem! Either way, buy the DVD!!
Beres shows a whole lot of energy on this and the guest appearances by Maxi Priest and Wyclef Jean make this show off the chain! You will be thoroughly entertained! The bonus material of the opening acts are somewhat mediocre, but the interview with Beres gives you a good insight to what he has done/is doing for Reggae music.
I can play this DVD over and over and not get tired of it, and can't suggest any stronger that you get it. This one is in my top 5, including Bob's Santa Barbara performance, Ziggy Marley's Live, Morgan Heritage live at Astoria. Get those too!』
(Beres is MUSIC!) 『This is a excellent DVD. The music quailty and the video is excellent. The guest singers Maxi Priest put a nice touch to the concert. Beres sings all his hits, but i was hoping that he would have sung "Show It Off". I thought the concert could have ended better than it did. But overall this is a must to have.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Less Than Fully Pleased) 『Description: This DVD presents ten or so turn patterns that I would describe, not as intermediate, but advanced. I have not seen Beginner Vol I, but that, I expect, covers beginner and intermediate. The instruction is fast-paced, but clear, and concludes each pattern with a slow-motion review. If you are at proper level to take advantage, this DVD will move you to the next level. Accentuate the positive: "New York Salsa" differs from its main rival, "SalsaCrazy," in flavor. The instructors in NYS are Latinos and their dance has club-style flair. Heat, tension. SC takes its time, perhaps two DVDs to cover the ground NYS covers in one, and more important, is just somewhat more "ballroom," correct, cool. Criticism: It borders on deceptive to call this DVD "New York Salsa." In New York we dance, as a rule, "on2," salsa not mambo. NYS teaches "on1." The two are different branches of one tree, distinctly different step patterns to the same rhythms.』
(Intermediate Salsa DVD) 『I am an advance New York salsa dancer and I really recommend this DVD . South Florida loves all those moves.....Smiles』
(Nice dvd) 『I would endorse it because it presents nice dancible combinations and the presenters are clear and friendly with their instructions. It was a bit distracting to hear the clicks of the shoes against the wood floor all the time however and I was sure i heard the horn of a truck in the background at one stage. the set is was to busy with too much to distract from the dancers themselves. Overall a nice dvd though.』
(A better value than lessons) 『Nice video. I thought it was a better way to learn than lessons if you have a partner at home who is willing to walk through the steps with you. Well worth it.』
(trendy, fast, and so much fun) 『I have been looking for chic Salsa instructional DVD for quite sometime. Many I found are old styles, out of date, and make me bore for first time I saw, but not for this one. This DVD is more than I ask for. It is trendy, fast, and so much fun. Some experts I know call the style "Salsa-Mumbo" or "ON-1". I see the moves (on this DVD) used in every salsa dance floors in NYC and Miami.
Lessons are easy to learn and broken down in small parts systematically. Slow motion at the end every lesson will help you understand more. Besides, this DVD includes a lot of salsa tricks which help you to be better dancer.
If you dance Salsa ON-1, this is the DVD you should not miss. However, it is for people who have some experience in Salsa dance. It is an intermediate level. If you never dance Salsa before, I recommend the beginner DVD from the same studio which equally good as this one. 』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Harnoncourt conducts Mozart his way) 『These two DVDs feature Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting the splendid Vienna Philharmonic in Mozart's Symphony No.31 'Paris' as well as Schubert's Symphony No.4 'Tragic'. He conducts the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in Mozart's Symphonies No.39, 40&41. As an interesting bonus on the second DVD, Harnoncourt conducts the Sinfonieorchester des Sudwestfunks Baden-Baden in what's called "a filmic realization" of Schubert's Symphony No.9 'The Great'. Essentially a really long music video entitled Franz Schubert: Mein Traum (My Dream), complete with a large cast and a dramatic story, it lasts more than an hour.
Harnoncourt extracts period performances from the COE without period instruments, except for what appears to be early horns that add an earthy punch to the scores. These are hybrid performances. Tempos are fleet, strings play with very little vibrato, textures are clean and open, with a great deal of instrumental transparency that makes each of the melodic lines easy to hear and to follow. Harnoncourt appears to observe all of the indicated repeats: Mozart's symphonies time-out at between 35 and 45 minutes. Ears that are used to authentic performance practices will have no difficulty in responding to these extremely lithe performances. Traditionalists may find the speedy tempi and slightly thinner orchestral sound not to their liking. The COE is an exemplary ensemble and play brilliantly under Harnoncourt. Some of the Mozart - the introduction to Symphony No.39, the second and last movements of Symphonies No.40&41 - seem to lose a portion of their Mozartean lilt and beauty because of their briskness and lighter texture. Nevertheless, this is ultimately a personal response to the music. If you prefer your Mozart beautifully languorous and sensuously lavish, then these performances are probably not for you. Fans of a cleaner, punchier Mozart will enjoy them. He conducts the Vienna Philharmonic with a similar effect in Mozart's Symphony No.31 'Paris'. The same holds true for Schubert's somewhat smaller in inspiration Symphony No.4. Some of their elan is lost in favor of crispness and velocity.
The film is an interesting bonus, the musical performance slightly less focused than with the COE. All in all, these performances represent a modern interpretation which will please those to whom those words do not produce an immediate shudder. The performances were recorded in 1983, 1984 and 1991. Both picture and sound are splendid. Sound is available in PCM stereo and DTS 5.1. Total time of the two discs is 232 minutes.
The bottom line is this: how you enjoy these performances depends entirely on how you respond to period performance practice. If you enjoy the concomitant briskness and instrumental clarity, then you will enjoy these performances immensely. If you prefer the older style of Mozart performance, you may not be as pleased. Recommended but with that caveat.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (a very interesting production) 『With the orchestra the stage, the conductor and instruments almost become a character. Three characters, no chorus, but cute. Ghyslaine Raphanel has the most amazing opening. Almost 10 minutes alone on stage -- part of it not saying anything, part a long solioquy until her first aria. I have never seen anyone hold a stage for that long, so well. The sound is uneven -- the performers do not appear to be miked, but use overhead and floor mikes. The lighting is also a bit uneven, at times a bit to reflective off skin, but all in all this is a very satisfying production』
(Twinkle, Twinkle) 『Adam's delightful short opera (two acts, but played here in one 84-minute block) receives a fine semi-staged mounting at the Theatre Imperial de la Musique Compiegne. A few doors, a table and chairs interspersed with the orchestra -- this production's focus is squarely on the performers, and they don't disappoint. Ghyslaine Raphanel and Franck Cassard are perhaps a trifle mature to represent love's young dream, while Matthieu Lecroart isn't the doddering cuckold the libretto describes. That said, the trio throw themselves into the fun with gusto and fine musicianship -- the variations on "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman," that French version of our old friend, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," are the score's highlight, used to ironic effect here, and show the cast decorating away at their formidable best. Special mention, too, is due the hilarious subtitles -- perhaps the worst I've even seen. More errors than would seem humanly possible; the question is if the translator lacked fluency in French or English (or both)??? Adam's ceaseless flow of melody still delights; perhaps it's time to dust off more of his vast output for 21st century audiences. If you're fond of comic opera, this DVD's high-spirited, refreshing, and most worthwhile.』 『Libretto by: Théodore Sauvage
Adolphe Adam’s comic opera revolves around the trials, tribulations and misunderstandings of Coraline (Ghyslaine Raphanel), her older, philandering husband Don Belflor (Matthieu Lécroart) and Tracolin (Franck Cassard), Coraline’s flute-playing lover. In one of the most memorable parts of the opera, the trio performs variations on "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman" (Ah! mother, let me tell you), which most will recognize as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Talk about the DVD, not how your musical tastes are correct for everyone else!) 『To all the complainers and haters on this review board, you should listen to more music than complain about what you don't understand. The DVD is a great look into the band, and as it says on the cover the "Evolution of String Cheese." It has in depth interviews that give you a sense of knowledge behind the band, their inspiration, and their music. Secondly, I would not even begin to read the review that speaks of the Dead's mediocre albums and such. The guy says besides American Beauty and Working Man's Dead. Um...does Wake of the Flood, Blues for Allah, and Shakedown ring a bell? Probaly not because this "listener" and "follower" of the dead isn't one at all. He's a hippocrit and a head follower. (not a deadhead) I think this guy who rated this DVD one star should maybe dive a little deeper past the 11th grade knowledge of the grateful dead. Anyways...great DVD for Cheese fans. If you're not a cheese fan, I don't know why you'd want to start to know them before knowing their music...so I guess I suggest this to Cheese fans. And by the way...check a few Grateful Dead albums while you're waiting for your delivery.』
(Ignore those sour-pusses, this is a good DVD) 『I can't believe all the whiners that gave this one star. I've had this DVD for years and have seen it numerous times and still enjoy it every time I see it. I'm a Dead-vet with more than 60 shows under my belt, and say without hesitation that SCI brings it on a nightly basis better than the Dead did for the last 15 years of Jerry's life. I realize this is blasphemy in many people's book, but we're all entitled to our own opinion. I've seen SCI more than 10 times over the past 7 years and I think they're still getting better. The past couple years have been incredible! So ignore those that say that they're past they're peak and go see them the next chance you get. Until, enjoy the history and quality music on this disc! Seeing Keller Williams play "Kidney in a Cooler" is worth the price alone.』
(they rip every other band off) 『Take the dead, phish, and old and in the way, throw in a nice light show and what do you get? string cheese, what a rip off, they copy everyone out there.Mr. Kang has an awful lot of talent but thats it, this dvd is aweful, they do covers of covers other bands have already done, they were good in earlier days, and should have stuck to blue grass, oh wait thats been done too.』
(This band is seriously overrated and so is this dvd.) 『For the love of all that is holy, when are people going to realize that SCI is a mediocre bar band at best, featuring warmed over jams that rip off all of the more accomplished and more talented "jam" bands out there? I had the misfortune of sitting through this sad excuse for a documentary/concert film at a friend's house and it is an evening I have lost forever. Do yourself a favor and don't buy, much less see, this dvd. Instead, save your money to invest in some cd's or dvd's of the dozens and dozens of much better bands out there, or better yet, go and see some real live music at your favorite local venue. I guarantee whichever band you happen to see will blow the pants of these shoeless wonders.』
(a huge letdown) 『I tried really hard to understand this DVD, and why everyone likes it so much, but I just can't get it. And mind you, I'm a huge fan of the band, seen them four times.
But this disc is really just a joke. The performance filmed (the 2000 New Year's show) wasn't even one of the band's best nights, for starters. Then you get partial songs (not even the best of the night), interrupted rudely by really worthless comments from the band members, with each band member basically re-wording the same ideas multiple times throughout the video. The live footage is far from brilliant either. Granted, I'm sure the band didn't have a U2-sized budget to film it, but it's visually among the weakest live concert DVD footage I've ever seen.
If you're expecting any kind of "at home" String Cheese live experience, you're probably going to be disappointed. Continual disruptions in the music, poor editing of song lengths, bad visual effects, and some questionable song choices to begin with (Howard and Turn This Around, but no Rivertrance? Come on) make this almost unwatchable.
Obviously the band got a little big-headed and opted to make a self-fufilling "documentary" instead of just releasing an uncut show on their first DVD. Save your money, go see a real SCI show, and hope that the band learns their lesson and a better DVD follows soon.』
『Join The String Cheese Incident as they take a look back at the epic New Year's Eve celebration of 2000. "Evolution" examines the creativity, spirit, and hard work that goes into making a night of magical music and adventure. The film goes behind the scenes of "2001: A String Cheese Odyssey" to capture the unique nature of a New Year's Eve show. Using a collection of rare footage and interviews with band members, event producers, and audience members, "Evolution" offers insight into the driving force behind The String Cheese Incident, as well as a retrospective examination of the band from its beginnings. Songs: Rollover, Shine, Rhythm of the Road, Indian Creek, Search, Sand Dollar, Joyful Sound (with Dr. Didg), Kidney in a Cooler (with Keller Williams Howard).』 『Forget any pejorative definition of "jam band" you've ever heard and do yourself a favor: buy this DVDright now, make space for it on your shelf (preferably next to Talking Heads'Stop Making Sense), and play it as often as possible. You needn't be a Deadhead or a Phish-phile to appreciate the String Cheese Incident's multi-ethnic blend of eclectic styles and feel-good vibes, originating from Colorado, rooted in bluegrass, and transmitting to the world via this warmly hypnotic concert, captured on December 31, 2000, in Portland, Oregon. Informative interviews with band members and show producers are smoothly blended with SCI's onstagemodus operandi, which invites audience immersion in a communal experience of music, dance, and light. Guest appearances by Steel Pulse and Keller Williams are delightful, the bonus tracks are sweet, and the 5.1-channel sound is perfect. It's virtually impossible to be in a bad mood while watching this DVD--what more could you ask?--Jeff Shannon』
