IPhone 3G used's review (Not the best) 『I have enjoyed previous Merlefest videos more that this one. Music is great but something seems to be missing from previous formats』
(Americana Music at its best!!!) 『Well, well where do I begin? This DVD is a superb sampler of artists from various music styles such as, Bluegrass, Country, Dawg, Newgrass, Cowboy, Celtic, Jazz and Old-Time music. The musicians on this DVD are masters in their field. Let's start with Doc Watson. Doc is getting on in the years and in this DVD it does not show. His pickin' and singin' are spot on! He does a great version, with the Kruger Brothers, of "Shady Grove". Doc accompanies other artist throughout the disc as well and is in great form when doing so. Peter Rowan does an all out version of his classic, "Midnight Moonlight ". Jerry Douglas's fingers smoke on this song. His Dobro solo is worth the price of admission alone! I still have to go on about this song. In the middle of the song Peter turns to his guitar player on his left and says, "Pick it one time, Tony" and man, oh man, does Tony Rice pick it one time. Tony Rice gives us a taste of his superb and dynamic fret board work. Tony rips it up something wicked. The master ends his solo with a "slap" on the face of his guitar to tell us, "That's it, someone else grab a piece of it." BRILLIANT! Some dude named Wyle Gustafson plays with Doc and when he opens his mouth Holy Cow, this Brooklyn Boy feels like putting on his boots&grabbing the saddle, if I could find one in Brooklyn NY, and headin' on out to the prairie. Yahoooooooo!! Wyle is a fantastic singer and boy what a version of "Cattle Call" he does. SUPERB! Tim O'Brien gives us an interesting track, "A Mountaineer Is Always Free" with a tight band of diverse musos. I always feel the wind in my hair and the smell of wild herbs when I listen to this song. It really takes me away to some far off mountain in my mind. Very stimulating music. My 3 year old son loves this song as well. He calls it "2 whistles" because someone is blowing into 2 tin whistles at once and my son always bounces around the living room with his thumbs in his mouth going, "doo do doo doooo do dooooo doo doo do". Chris Thile plays a great track, "Bury Me Beneath The Willow" and his voice is as powerful as his mandolin playing. "The Real Boss", Earl Scruggs brings his family on stage and fingerpicks some gems as well. Sam Bush plays with a few of the talents here and the "Bark" of his mandolin is always a joy to hear. The concert is filmed well and the audio is very rich and true. Unfortunately time prevents me from going on about this disc so, if you are looking for the perfect DVD of Americana music. YOU FOUND IT!』
(A great sampler of historic&special moments from one of our nation's premier music festivals) 『Total Playing Time - 73:35 SONGS: 1)They're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone, 2) Bury Me Beneath the Willow, 3)Doc's Medley: Any Way You Want Me/Blue Suede Shoes/Tutti Frutti/Whole Lot of Shakin' Goin On, 4) Sittin' on Top of the World, 5) You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive, 6) Lonesome Pine, 7) A Mountaineer is Always Free, 8) A Good Woman's Love, 9) Blue Moon of Kentucky, 10) Careless Love, 11) Cattle Call, 12) Midnight Moonlight, 13) Sweet Georgia Brown, 14) Summertime, 15) Patrick Meets the Brickbats, 16) Shady Grove, 17) Paul and Silas, 18)Shake Rattle&Roll, 19)Amazing Grace
Capturing the energy and spirit of an eclectic music festival like Merlefest on a 74-minute album would truly be a formidable task for any producer. Rising to the challenge, Jim Barrow and B. Townes succeed with this project which was recorded in April, 2002 at the 15th annual festival in Wilkesboro, N.C. dedicated to the memory of Eddy Merle Watson (1949-1985). This live compilation sampler CD includes cuts from an all-star lineup of Doc Watson, his grandson Rickard Watson, Sam Bush, John Cowan, Jerry Douglas, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless, Albert Lee, Tim O'Brien, Peter Rowan, Earl Scruggs, Nickel Creek, Blue Highway and more. The 19 tracks are lively and are largely drawn from a number of standards that we are familiar with from bluegrass, country, gospel and old-time rock and roll repertoires. Doc Watson appears on ten tracks. Some of the songs come off as hot jam sessions with some occasional bouts of instrumental pyrotechnics from the musical collaborators. Doc's comments are a joy to hear as he guides the arrangements and expresses his glee and appreciation to his accompanists. Doc directs "Sweet Georgia Brown" by exclaiming, "I'll holler the instrument, and whoever plays it, grab it." The sound quality is good, but remember that this album wasn't recorded in a studio. We hear Earl Scruggs tuning his banjo prior to picking "Careless Love." The applause can be distracting. Some of the guitars clearly have pickups on them, and eight of the tracks also include drums. Doc also sounds like he was fighting some hoarseness and vocal exhaustion on "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and a festival closer, "Amazing Grace."
Some of the tighter offerings are Patty Loveless' rendition of "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive"and Blue Highway's "Lonesome Pine" and Tim O'Brien's "A Mountaineer is Always Free." Also, John Cowan singing "A Good Woman's Love" is a song I never tire of hearing, but I have heard better versions of "Sittin' on Top of the World" and "Midnight Moonlight." We have to expect some tradeoffs with live albums that also attempt to capture that energy of groups on a large festival stage. Besides the CD, Merlefest has DVD and VHS products with and even larger (27) number of performances. Merlefest Live! makes a good souvenir for festival attendees and for folks who want a sampler of historic and special moments from one of our nation's premier music festivals. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now) 』 『In April of each year, thousands of acoustic music fans converge on the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, NC. Merlefest is dedicated to the life and music of Eddy Merle Watson, son of legendary folk icon Doc Watson. At Merlefest 2002, the best acoustic musicians in the world took the stage for Doc's 15th Anniversary Jam. The eclectic and dynamic musical collaborations of this jam, featuring Doc Watson, Richard Watson, Earl Scruggs, Patty Loveless, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Blue Highway, Tony Rice, Chris Thile, John Cowan, Peter Rowam, The Kruger Brothers and more have been beautifully captured on this one of a kind DVD.』

Wendee's singing, starting with a brief a capella stretch at the beginning of "Blue Skies," is beautiful throughout. "Rainbow Connection" is given new life beyond its connection with Kermit the Frog. Peplowski's solos on "Honeysuckle Rose" and "Blue Moon" especially show off his fluency and creativity. The medley of "My Foolish Heart" and "The Second Time Around" (which has Steve Heck singing the latter) is a surprising success. And "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" was recorded because Wendee loved how Eddie Higgins played Michel Legrand.』 fetish『 X2: Jolene/Coat of Many Colors 』

(Since when did the word "maturity" mean "derogatory"?) 『Over the years, both professional and amateur music critics have written Tiffany off as a shallow-minded teenybopper whose "fluffy" love ballads and upbeat, "cheesy" dance songs were apparently too much for them to swallow, even though her self-titled debut album helped her become a household name in 1987 and her 1988 release HOLD AN OLD FRIEND'S HAND went double-platinum. By the time her tragically poorly selling album NEW INSIDE hit U.S. music store stands in 1996, however, the general public at last made it clear to the managers of this once-spunky Californian teen idol that her approach to music--not to mention theirs--had grown stale for them. It is no wonder, then, that her 2000 release, THE COLOR OF SILENCE, is said to be her best album to date. Now, granted, I used to be a Tiffany fan once, but this latest album of hers does not impress me one bit. True, anyone else who has ever listened to it might think I've lost my senses, but then again, they have their opinions, and I have my own.
Most people who have had the chance to listen to THE COLOR OF SILENCE proclaim its songs to be thoughtful, graceful, unpretentious, and mature in nature and insist that anyone who listens to them--regardless of what genre of music they most prefer--will find at least one favorite composition amongst the thirteen-to-sixteen total tracks (depending upon which copy one owns). Personally, I did not have such an enjoyable experience with this album. To begin with, despite the fact that the songs on this CD cover a wider range of topics than any of her previous compilations, so many of them bring up the same tired story of a jaded young adult who apparently can't help but whine and complain about how everyone has tried and keeps trying to censor her and bring her to her knees. Please pardon me should I offend, but I've heard enough of these kinds of bitter, edgy pity parties on the radio these days myself, and no matter how pleasant-sounding the accompaniment is, the message is always the same--petty and self-absorbed.
Secondly, as far as the term "unpretentious" goes, the four words that most readily come to my mind are, "I don't buy it." As far as I'm concerned, Tiffany is only trying to make herself out to be a self-avenging angel whose world--especially the men who live in it--has apparently turned its back on her. This is the same type of excessive praise she receives from her promotional team on her own website, www.tiffanymusic.com, which basically portrays her as the greatest thing to happen to American pop culture since Elvis Presley. Personally, I believe she has only herself to blame for not making a more honest effort to adapt to and stand out within the music industry in the first place. After all, when was the last time anyone had ever seen this album in stores or had perceived advertisements about it from any source other than VH1? I certainly know I haven't heard any of these songs on the radio recently, which may have been both a blessing and a curse on my behalf.
Finally, so many people claim that THE COLOR OF SILENCE is mature. Again, I beg to differ, considering that the third track is entitled "Piss U Off"--a title one would expect for a number from a heavy metal CD rather than one from a fading pop star. Similarly, how about the following lyrics from "Butterfly": "Strange how your wings ache like a / son of a b****." Honestly, since when will the word "mature" once again mean "grown-up" rather than "off-colored" or "derogatory"? Then again, the word tends to be used as a synonym for "sexually exploitative," too, and the photographs one sees on the CD's front insert are just that. Indeed, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguleira aren't the only poorly dressed pop stars staking their claim today, considering how Tiffany's always trying to emphasize her bust line by wearing cleavage-bearing tops with straps that continually fall down past her shoulders--often enough without a bra underneath. Then again, considering the fact that she made it her choice to pose nude for PLAYBOY Magazine to promote her work really shows how she flushed her moral standards down the toilet. Honestly, one would think she'd do herself a service by setting her OWN example rather than stooping to another "diva's" level.
The bottom line is this: If you're looking for pop music that's TRULY thoughtful, graceful, unpretentious, and mature, you're better off looking for something by rising pop sensation Clay Aiken. As for Tiffany's THE COLOR OF SILENCE, don't waste your time or money; it's really nothing new OR exciting.』
(Tiffany's Silence is finally broken. The must have album.) 『This album should not be missed by anyone. From my friends to even my mother who happens to love country music, fans of all musical genres should find at least one song if not many on this CD great listening enjoyment. Most remember Tiffany as the』
(An EXCELLENT album from start to finish!) 『Music fans who think Tiffany is "stuck" in her '80s sound will be pleasantly surprised when they hear this thoroughly modern and non-contrived album. From the moment "Open My Eyes" erupts into its fantastic, explosive chorus to the spectacular guitar rifts that close the gorgeous "Flown," this CD is solid, expressive rock music through and through.
Honestly, I was a kid in the '80s and loved Tiffany's pop stuff, but with age, I outgrew her records...and when I saw this CD at Tower Records, I bought it thinking it would be amusing and nothing more. Well, I didn't know it then, but I had added a CD to my collection that has parked itself into my Top 10 albums of all time list, along with Bruce Springsteen and Kate Bush, just for reference's sake.
I urge you to pick this CD up. It is spectacular! And it got very little airplay (that's the music business, folks!), so grab this album before it disappears! You'll be glad you did.

(An excellent self-expressive, mature effort) 『The last Tiffany album I bought was Hold an Old Friends Hand which I found to be as good as suger-coated pop can be. With the Colour of Silence Tiffany has improved on that album with self-expression, mature lyrics, and plain old-fashioned good music. The sad part is such an excellent album won't be heard by a majority of the people because of non-existent marketing and distribution. I only knew about this album because of VH1's Behind the Music. Isn't Tiffany the only artist on Eureka Records with several number ones to her credit? Maybe she deserves more of the machine working in her favor.』 『Aussie edition of the ex-teen mall queen's critically acclaimed 2000 comeback album.
