IPhone 3G used's review (Unbelievable) 『Guitar Wolf is the best Rock'n'Roll group in the world hands down. Fans of Guitar Wolf will love this, lots of live stuff as well as videos(it even has a trailer for the movie Wild Zero). I could only give it five stars but it deserves more. The production is grade A++ considering their CD's can be a bit rough. Awesome』 『Japan's premier guitar-punk band, laying waste to their competitors by playing harder, faster and louder than anyone else around! This DVD features exclusive footage as well as music videos, interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff. 69 minutes of pure, hot mayhem!』
IPhone 3G used's review (Christian shoegazer rock) 『I bought this disc when it first came out, years ago, and was blown away then by the band's use of dense production, instrumentation/voice layering, reverb, and slick guitar licks. Other reviewers complain about this "wall of sound" or the female singer vocals being "buried" under the thick guitars/wall of sound, but that's how it's supposed to sound. (I hadn't heard of Loveless and their early 90s masterpiece, My Bloody Valentine, but that is exactly where Velour 100 got their inspiration.) "Of Color Bright" is a Christian take on shoegazer rock. I still pull this disk out every now and then and wonder how such lovely music can be so overlooked. Play the sample above of track #5 "Shine" and you'll hear how Velour 100 uses the two female singers to full advantage to play off each other in such a sweet way. Sample track #3 "Pressed Flower" to hear the heavy guitar/drum beats. The sample from track #9 "Dolphin Grey" has a simple yet perceptive lyric about how the person Jesus might be better left on the black and white text pages of the Bible rather than us humans trying to force Him to come alive here on earth: "Maybe that's the only place you can survive." The lyrics give you much to think about while grooving to the pop/rock/psychedlic music. 4 stars, only because I reserve 5 stars for "must haves." And if you are not into, or are not open to, shoegazer rock, this disk is not for you. But if you enjoy that lush wall of sound, female vocalists singing underwater, and guitars driving the songs, this could be a gem you wished you'd discovered years ago.』
(Recording quality leaves much to be desired...) 『I bought "Of Color Bright" because I had heard, and enjoyed, one of the songs from the album. The music on this album isn't bad; in fact it's rather nice, relaxing and flows well. Unfortunately, the recording quality of the lyrics is abysmal. It sounds as though the lead singer was recorded from three rooms away through a tin can. This results in the lyrics being slurred and almost indecipherable and ends up sounding like the lead singer has a speech impediment. If you can get over the quality of the recorded lyrics, you might find an enjoyable listen. For me though, it was a bit too aggravating to bother. In any case, make sure you check the preview clips before purchasing.』
(lush but honest space pop) 『This is a wonderful album that you'll enjoy listening to over&over again. Some of the other reviewers who have rated this album poorly had problems with parts of songs being discordant, or lyrics being "cryptic". For the most part, the music is lush and layered with effective use of repetition; the occassional discordant sections were well placed, and served to intensify (by contrast) the sense of flow that 90% of the song embodied. The notion that "anyone can be cryptic" misses the whole point. If I want bubble-gum pop lyrics that a 6 year old can write, I'll listen to the radio. The whole point of the album's lyric is to be poetic&sparse so that you have the wonderful *opportunity* to add your own mental color/meaning; this is fun, not labor. This is the most satisfying type of music, and I find it unfortunate that others are so harshly critical of what they don't understand. This isn't minimalist modern art music that only snobby intellectuals pretend to understand. It is mostly light space pop with an occassional twist to keep the listener interested. I wish velour 100 would put together another album!』
(I really wanted to enjoy this CD...) 『I had a real hard time with this CD. I wanted to enjoy it. After all, I spent money on it, and I already knew I liked the song "Sky From Under Water" which I had heard on a sampler disk. I did notice that it was difficult to understand exactly what the singer was saying, but that is beside the point.
While I wouldn't say it was quite as bad as eating rancid mayonnaise I would strongly question what exactly the other reviewers were listening to. It seems to me that the songs were written in such a way that they made almost no sense at all, but relied on people to make up their own meanings, therefore making people like the CD because they had essentially created the meanings of the lyrics. Unfortunately I don't buy music so that I can sit and try and decipher lyrics and pretend that the songwriters where on such a higher plain that I couldn't possibly understand. So many times people pass off a complete lack of creativity as amazing creativity, thinking that they just cannot understand such brilliance. Or people think being creative means being cryptic. Anyone can be cryptic. Anyone can be unimaginative. Anyone can write songs that don't make any sense.
As a side-note to illustrate my point, I believe that "Dandelions" by Five-Iron-Frenzy is one of the most wonderfully written songs. It is completely allegorical, yet it is so easy to make the comparison. This is due to the fact that because almost everyone has brought dandelions to their mothers when they were little. And almost every mother has treated them like flowers, even though they are really weeds, just like God does to us.
So anyway, I would strongly suggest listening to a few tracks on this CD before purchasing it. If you find that you like this sort of sound then go for it. Those who are looking for a deeper, more coherent listen might want to search elsewhere.』
(A Diamond in the rough!) 『My cousin gave this CD because he was trying to get rid of all his non-tastefull CDs, and I must say when I first listened to this CD, it didn't get played again for a couple months. The music was just too slow for my taste at the time, and the genre of music was just not my type.
But upon re-listening to this CD, I have found so many treasures and unforgetable music hidden underneath the dirt. Songs like Tumble and Monochrome are so peaceful you feel like you're sitting beside the "calm blue ocean" whenever you listen to them.
Clouds and Shine provide the melodies to keep you "Rockin' and Rollin'" all night, and Sky from Underwater and Dolphin Grey provide your soul with lyrics badly needed to be heard.
All in all, you CANNOT go wrong with this CD. It will uplift and revive your soul in ways you would not expect to experience.
Check out my other reviews for great Christian CDs, books, etc.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Music Videos, A Concert And A Lot Of Male Nudity) 『Being labelled as "The Definitive DVD," Alien Ant Farm's "BUSted" attempts to collect each and every thing Alien Ant Farm related, since their beginnings in 1996, all in one place. From their music videos -- of which, there are plenty -- to the obligatory on-the-road/in-the-studio documentary, to a complete concert, all you could ever want is in this one disc.
"Road To Wreckage" is a lengthy documentary that spans the band's career up until this point. Despite lacking more recent footage (perhaps due to label problems and missing members), this section more than makes up for it, by capturing AAF's early years really well. Unlike most band doc's, however, this one doesn't have much of a narrative or a direction, and mainly feels like a big party -- complete with WAY too much nudity. The mood gets slightly heavy when the group's infamous bus-crash in 2002 is brought up, but not enough to kill the mood. Look out for cameos from James Hetfield (Metallica) and members of 311, Papa Roach (who helped sign the band) and Linkin Park.
"Live In Germany" is a professionally-shot concert captured on February 13, 2002, and as such, it revolves mostly around material from "ANThology." The band does, however, break out a preview for the following album, "TruANT" in "S.S. Recognize" and even busts out the "Spider-Man" inspired tune, "Bug Bytes." As hinted at in the previous documentary, this DVD has been in the works for quite some time, so it's no wonder we don't have a more recent show to watch.
Finally, we have music videos, of which, there are plenty. From the three versions of their first single, "Movies" to "These Days" -- which finds the band performing everywhere, from a Gay Pride Parade to the BET awards -- not a moment is missed. Three videos from the new album, "Up In The Attic," -- "Forgive And Forget," "Around The Block" and "She's Only Evil" -- are extremely low budget and almost seem to be a parody of how obsolete conventional music videos have become.
Overall, it's an excellent little package, with few complaints. First off, maybe it's just my copy, but I could not get the subtitles off. At all. Which means, even during the music videos, I have the band's commentary being spelled out for me on the bottom of the screen. Also, as great as their sense of humor is, it would have been nice to see another side of the band. Regardless though, it's still a trip, and a worthy release. If you want to watch four guys have the time of their lives on the road and you really can't get enough Alien Ant Farm, you'll really dig this DVD.』
(A Good Bang For Your Buck) 『I thought Alien Ant Farm were joking around by calling BUSted a "definitive" DVD, but they kid you not. This DVD (unlike most music DVDs I've watched) is absolutely FILLED with stuff, spanning the band's entire career, even pre-ANThology. The odd part is that it goes for a relatively low price everywhere I've checked. Some concert DVDs go for 35 bucks, but Alien Ant Farm gives you a full concert filmed in Germany, every music video they've made (including unreleased alternate versions and commentary from Dryden and Mike), and a documentary featuring recording sessions, live clips, and lots of footage of the band just kidding around. If you don't like seeing male nudity every 5 minutes, then you might want to skip this part...
Anyway, the DVD is great and is a must-have for any Alien Ant Farm fan. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's missing some important television performances that are only hinted at in the documentary, the documentary feels unnecessarily lengthy at times, and Mike's commentary on the videos is almost impossible to hear. The only way you can tell what he's saying is by turning the subtitles on.
So, what specifically is on the DVD? Let me enlighten you...

The forming of the band itself, the background and inspiration for the songs, the recording of same, was an eyeopener for me.The talent of the band members, and the creation, by Mick of some of my favorites i.e. For Your Babies, Stars, Your Mirror etc. just increased my appreciation for them. At my age (ancient) I never dreamed I would discover a singer-composer as talented as Mick Hucknall. I hope he would understand when I place him on the same plane as John Lennon. Different, but both extraordinarily talented and conscious of the inequities of their respective times. I would recommend this DVD to all who appreciate real talent. Christine』 『SIMPLY RED, with their soulful pop songs, will go down in history as one of the UK's biggest and most successful pop bands of the late eighties and early nineties. Formed in 1984, Mick Hucknall and co. released their debut album "Picture Book" in 1985, which went platinum, making SIMPLY RED one of that year's major success stories. Their following albums, "Men And Women" and "A New Flame" respectively, continued this success but it was the arrival of SIMPLY RED's fourth album "Stars", released in September 1991 that would change history forever.
"Stars" would top the UK charts for nineteen weeks and become the biggest selling album on 1991 in the UK, making SIMPLY RED a household name. They also achieved phenomenal success around the world with "Stars" spawning two top ten hits, "For Your Babies" and the title track "Stars" as well as three top forty hits, "Something Got Me Started", "Thrill Me" and "Your Mirror". "Stars" would go on and sell in excess of eight-and-a-half million copies by the middle of 1993.

(Great) 『I'm no Critic so I'll get to the point I thought this DVD of Walter Trout and Band was Great , I enjoyed it and only 60 minutes long but a great live performance by Walter Trout and his band playing 8 songs , I can Tell , Take Care of your Business , Life in the Jungle , Frederica (I don't need You) , Running Blues , Finally Gotten over You , Victor the Cajum , and Prisoner of a Dream』
(Thanks, Amazon Reviewers!) 『I have to thank the reviewers here at Amazon for turning me on to this guy. I read several reviews, enough to take a shot with this DVD and I am glad I did.
Wow, this guy and his band blew me away! This is one of the better blues concerts on DVD I have ever seen and heard. Trout, a veteran blues singer and guitar player whom a lot of people might not know about, is solid in both departments (singing and playing.)
I loved all the songs in here and really appreciated the outstanding keyboard work done by Martin Gershewitz (sp) from Cologne, Germany, a late addition to the Trout band. This guy is just great on piano/organ and Trout gives him plenty of space to work. Also solid are bass player (James Trapp, who died recently) and the drummer. I'm sorry didn't get all these guys names. Each is shown their talents with solos on the final song before the customary encore.
This is a pleasing sound because Trout can sing. He's not just one of the world's top blues guitarmen. Great stuff and another good concert from this long-running "Rockapalast" TV series in Germany. 』
(If you Play, BUY THIS DVD! If you don't, learn by this DVD!) 『OK, as one reviewer wrote, they do spend some time with the camera on the keyboard and drummer, and yes, even the bass player. That's why it is called the Walter Trout Band! Walter's band is tight in this video, as he is in all of his CD's I have heard. If you have even tried to pick up an ax and play or if you are an accomplished player, BUY THIS DVD. Walter is one of the best guitar players ever and even if this concert is getting into the OLD box, it is just pure Walter Trout. Stuff it in your big screen and turn up the surround sound and see what a guitar God can do for 60 minutes!』

IPhone 3G used's review (coliseum show 5 stars; kilburn 3) 『Kilburn is a good show. But as previously noted it is a little sloppy, and Pete needs to be much further up in the mix. I don't mind sloppy, hey it's rock and roll. But the boys sound a little lethargic. (Especially when compared to the 69 show.) Pete is jumping around and dancing and windmilling like a madman, but the musical energy to back up the antics is just not there for good portions of the show. Keith is fine, but he does a lot of mugging for the camera, and I think his playing at the 69 show is far superior to Kilburn. I'm sure a lot of fans will disagree, but I am just not as amped up about this show as other reviews.
The Coliseum show from 1969 is another matter. The sound mix is worse than Kilburn but the band sounds better! Pete does less dancing but much more *playing*; there is more technique and more leads -and just awesome jaw dropping moments (sparks, my generation especially fiery). He is all over the fretboard and his use of feedback and distortion masterful. Keith, for me, is far better than the Kilburn show. He does less pandering and just plays the hell out of every song. Roger is fine at both shows; but I guess I am just on old fogey - something about him in that fringed vest is Roger, and he seems looser at the Coliseum show. Ox is Ox, beyond great at both shows; was there ever a better bass player?
Tommy, as others mention, is included as bonus material (with A Quick One). I would have liked it in sequence of the show, but at least it is here. They are both great, but I will always have a special love for Tommy and watching it here shows the power and energy of a live Who show. I mean they just kill it start to finish without a breath or break.
Any Who fan is going to buy this and it seems I am in a minority in being lukewarm over the Kilburn show. I would pay twice the price of this set for the Coliseum show alone, it is that good. Then throw in a good not great performance from 77 and you can't go wrong! Also highly recommend the isle of wight dvd...』
(Unbelievable!) 『No long, drawn out reviews from me. If you're a Who fan, then you had better get this disc. Even if you're a peripheral Who fan, get the disc. Having both the 1977 Kilburn and 1969 London shows on one disc is great. I watched both shows start to finish without skipping to the next chapter, not even once!In both shows, they are in absolute top form. I also got a newfound appreciation for the spectacular drumming of Kieth Moon. The only con is that, at leastduring the Killburn performance, the cameras spent too much time on Pete and Roger and not nearly enough time on The Ox - the greatest rock bassist of all time bar none. I can only wonder why these shows sat in the vault for so many years?』
(All the Power and Glory that music promised and delivered here) 『I was aware, after watching what good garage bands could deliver, before Tommy was created, from Pictures of Lily and I can See For Miles and other music, operating limited equipment at its maximum, in the teen towns held in church basements and, before the festivals, street dances all across America pre 1970, stunning music, that Townsend and company, among others have created, was the music that the greats like Bach, Ravel and Holst did and would be proud of these great "sounds" that these 20 year olds were giving to the masses. I pity the poor, pale, contrived junk that continues to assault following generations. As they discover DSOTM, Spirits 12 Dreams, etc. were mostly made by young men in their 20's, created to last forever, for others to use as guide posts. This performance of the Opera Tommy in the extra area of disc 2 is the gold standard of what rock and roll is/was capable of. Look past the warts and flubs of the technical presentation and be a witness. I'm glad that I was alive during this period of time, it helped me, as a modern (young-now older) man living among so much madness, cope. As near to spiritial/religion as I was ever to find, it kept and keeps me going. Look, listen and rejoice as this old gem is capable of doing. It is what makes us human, brothers(and sisters) in a world that has lost its mind.』
(An incredible "off" night...) 『So, this was an off night? A sloppy, vicious and completely chaotic Who, late in the game and vital as always. Not for the faint of heart, or for casual Who enthusiasts (is there such a thing as a 'casual' Who fan?!) I love it and I think Keith is way sharper than the footage from Shepparton ultimately used in The Kids are Alright. The 2nd disc is wonderful as well, from 1969, but could not be issued as a stand alone title as it is technically flawed. Who cares! A magnificent 'bonus!' I agree with the reviewers that Tommy should have run as a continuous program, but that's record company logic for you. Buy and behold the Who's twin peaks.』
(Awesome DVD!!!!) 『I watched the main section of this DVD last night. There is still "the extras" section that I will view soon.
The concert is awesome!! I am a huge The Who fan and this concert shows how great these guys were playing together. There were mistakes such as when Roger Daltrey forgets most of a verse in the song Dreaming From the Waste, and a few songs into the show Pete Townshend comments that he didn't think the performance was worth filming but I think he was saying that to goad the other musicians. This DVD is a must have for any The Who fan or anyone interested in power rock and roll.
My biggest gripe about the film is the same I have with all of The Who videos that I have seen: the lack of time the director shows John Entwistle and John's amazing playing. It seems music film directors that film The Who know nothing about rock music. Here is arguably the greatest rock bass guitarist to ever walk the face of this Earth who had changed rock music as we know it forever, and you'll be lucky to see 8 minutes of concert footage devoted to John in a 2-hour film. Sometimes I felt Keith Moon's kick drum got more film time than John did. For example during the phenomenal bass soloing in Dreaming From the Waste, this idiot director elects to show Townshend standing playing rhythm guitar.
The sound is awesome. The tone that we hear from all of the musicians is amazing, especially John Entwistle's bass.
Go buy this DVD. The Who was an amazing band that changed music forever and this concert DVD emphasizes that fact. Probably your only issue will be your disgust in the lack of time devoted to John Entwistle. So maybe you won't see much of him in this film but you will certainly hear his amazing playing. The Who were an awesome live band and here's your chance to see them prove it. 』 『They are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. For over four decades, they have changed modern music as we know it. But some of their most famous performances have never been released... until now. Shot in 35mm, this holy grail for fans has been digitally restored and remastered in high-definitiion for the ultimate The Who experience. IPhone 3G used's review (Blown away.) 『This is one of the most amazing choral music cds I have ever listened to. Truly amazing.』
(Beautiful Music) 『This is a stunning album that sets a new standard for youth choruses. Every piece in this collection was commissioned by the Young People's Chorus of New York City, and the composers are world-class. In fact, Michael Torke's "Song of Ezekiel" was just awarded 2003 Best Octavo of the year by the Music Publisher's Association. It's a gorgeous piece. I also love the John Tavener and the Elena Kats-Chernin pieces. Choral directors will be interested to know that all of these compositions are available in print.
The voices blend beautifully and the production values are high. Each time I listen to this CD I discover new things I like about it. Although I might appreciate the Walter Thompson better live than as a recording, the album as a whole is a pleasure to listen to. I'm amazed that these teenagers have achieved such a high level of artistry.
Also, the helpful liner notes have remarks by each composer, explaining how they went about creating their commission and how they related to the youthful choristers and the idea of writing specifically for voices that are transient. This is an interesting window onto the composers' creative processes.
If you like choral music and want to hear some beautiful new work, get yourself a copy of Transient Glory.』
