(Not as enchanting as other trips I've taken into Lewis Carroll's Wonderland...)
『Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is one of my favorite books of all time and thus, it is hard for a movie adaptation to live up to my expectations; it has been done, though, and I'll explain later. This particular animated version of "Alice in Wonderland" was produced by Jetlag Productions in 1995 and released to DVD in 2002 by Goodtimes Entertainment. I've never been too pleased with the animated versions I've seen of "Alice in Wonderland", not even Walt Disney's 1953 classic, and unfortunately, Jetlag Productions' takes the cake as the worst I've seen so far and one of the studio's weakest titles. Most animated films from Jetlag Productions have a balance between strengths and weaknesses, but sadly, "Alice in Wonderland" fits the category in which weaknesses outnumber its strengths. The film is simplified to appeal to children's tastes, but I think they went overboard, as I doubt children will find the film entertaining enough. The weak storyline moves along ungracefully and slowly, generating a lot of yawns from scene to scene, and the characters are not on screen long enough to be too memorable. Even with its many weaknesses, the film has one or two good points, too.

Based on Lewis Carroll's timeless literary masterpiece, "Alice in Wonderland" follows the adventures of Alice. Her story begins when she is sitting alongside the riverbank with her cat Dinah listening to an uninteresting history lecture from her older sister. Just when she could not be any more tired of listening to passages from a book without pictures, a strange white rabbit with clothes and a pocket watch appears and seems to be in a great hurry. Burning with curiosity, Alice follows the strange creature down its rabbit hole which turns out to be a deep tunnel leading, it seems, to the center of the earth. When she reaches the bottom of the tunnel, Alice finds herself in a brand new world; Wonderland. In this enchanting place, Alice discovers a tiny door leading to the most beautiful garden she had ever seen and thus begins a journey to find this beautiful place. In her journey, Alice stumbles upon many strange creatures, all of which seem to be just plain mad. Alice attends a mad tea party with the March Hare and the Mad Hatter, and plays a silly game of croquet against the fearful Red Queen. When the poor Knave of Hearts is accused of stealing the queen's tarts and taking them quite away, Alice attends his trial and confidently, stands up against the unfair tyrant and her pack of playing card-warriors. Discovering at the same time that the whole enchanting world of Wonderland was just the works of her wild imagination.

Once again, though the story is pretty much the same as with most other adaptations of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", this version really does lack much of the charm that made others so grand. The film suffers from an artistic crisis; Jetlag Productions films have never been high on quality of background art and animation, but this is them at their worst. Most of the drawn sceneries suffer from poor choice of color, though much of it might be due to an unbalance in the DVD's colors, but still, the coloring is anything but appealing. Then there's the character design; once again, very poor. The protagonist is very badly designed, especially her face. She suffers from that typical eye design seen also in "Jungle Book" (1995). The rest of the characters have too simplistic or awkward a design to be visually likeable. The animation is not much worse than I've come to expect from this studio, but it still seems to be one of the weaker efforts. Voice acting is also a problem here; the characters speak in a way in which it sounds like a kindergarten play, with little emotion and very unrealistically. The same thirty-one voice actors from other Jetlag Productions films are listed in the credits, so of course, that means we're once again listening to the boring same voices from other films from the studio. In fact, seeing Jetlag Productions' films dubbed in other languages usually improves their appeal altogether. One thing I missed in this particular version of "Alice in Wonderland" is the moral; all other versions of the story I have seen resulted in some sort of lesson learned by Alice after her long journey. For example, in Walt Disney's 1953 version, Alice learns that too much curiosity can be a very bad thing and that it often leads to more trouble than one can handle. In the 1988 Burbank Films Australia version, Alice had been bored of reading her book, "The Principals of Logical Calculus" and arrived in Wonderland to search for the beautiful garden, only to wake up and discover the beautiful garden that was her very own, as well as appreciation for anything that was "logical". Finally, in the wonderful 1999 Hallmark version, Alice learns to have confidence in herself, and to enjoy, not fear, the fun of performing . There was nothing of the sort here, other than a few hints that curiosity was not a good leader. On the bright side, there are a few cute sequences, such as the Mad Hatter's drawing scene. The songs are rather nice, especially the first song, "Anything Goes in Wonderland", which opens, and closes, the film nicely with a soft melody and a catchy tune. The second song, "The Caucus Race" plays during one of the most repetitive and completely dumb sequences in the film. Finally, "M is for Me" is played during the Mad Hatter's drawing sequence of things "that start with the letter M"; catchy, but not too great. All things considered, Jetlag Productions' "Alice in Wonderland" may or may not be a hit with the children, but for Lewis Carroll's fans and older viewers, I recommend the other three versions I mentioned, especially the 1999 Hallmark version, which is my favorite film of all time.』

(Non-Disney version)
『Similar, but more kid focused than the Disney version. And a bit closer to the actual book.

The Caucus race song drags on far too long however but my niece is usually glued to the screen during the Mad Hatter's coloring song.

This was done in an Asian lab and has the distinctive animation similar to Heathcliff and other afternoon cartoons.』

(Not Really a Review as Such....)
『I haven't seen any versions of "Alice" that match up with what is in my mind. Disney tried vewwy hard and it is a nice, clinical and somewhat sterile interpretation (with some early celebrity flavor in it, as we would see come to blossom in the 1960's with the movies from "101 Dalmations" on up). However, I am not reviewing that movie, nor THIS! I am putting in a teeny vote for the 1930's (1933, I think...or maybe '35) version, which had (actually, mebbe it was '36?) W.C. Fields, Cary Grant, and some udder people whose names X-Cape me as of this moment.
After all, as the whole piece is highly dependent on rather dreamlike and nonsensical shtuff, I tawt I'd pass dis on to youse all.
Someone should make the 1930's version available on DVD or VHS. I stayed home from school in 1975 to watch this film because I had read so much about it in my books on Cary Grant and also WC Fields [plus some other starz!whoze namez! ezcape!me]). Ok, enough. Suffice to say, the 1930's version was pretty neat, and had many of the best special FX guys of the 30's working on it. Put in a vote for the early 1930's version to be released at least on DVD. I'll write a G-D(goofy-demented) commentary, if I needs must!』

(Excellent instructions, absolutely no feel or soul.)
『There is absolutely no question Thomas is an incredible drummer. This DVD can be of great help for those wanting to take it to the next level, and I can tell you right now - it's not going to be easy. What Thomas lacks big time is on groove, feel, soul. He is a robotic drummer and that's understandable, he grew up listening to drum machine music. Being a robotic drummer is great if you want to produce robotic songs. Nonetheless if you are a drummer I recommend this DVD hands down. It's humbling. As a musician, I don't recommend it because at least for me music is about feeling good, but Thomas playing has no "feel" at all.』

(Only double-bass players need apply)
『I won't repeat what you can read in other reviews. I will just add that a major letdown for me was to find out that "foot technique" here really means double bass. If you don't play double bass (like me) and you are expecting instead to find creative techniques for your bass and your hi-hat, there's zero of that here.』

(Is this humanly possible?)
『Well it came today. I put DVD 1 in the player. I, was like, this looks like it's going to be a keeper. I watched it for about an hour. Jaw on the ground, my lap was full of drool. I didn't get up once to do anything. Once I figured out I was still in the same place and still on Earth, I figured I would check out his Matrix. So I put in DVD 2. I got the poster out and followed along. He explained it perfect. It is an Awesome exercise. It focuses on developing independence(something I have been working on, but is taking a long time). I now have a better idea on achieving this goal. I did read the reviews before I bought this, and the reviewers have once again proven to be right. Thanks to all, and Thanks to Thomas Lang. I have opened a huge door and am going inside!』

(Best Instructional for feet and independence)
『There is no doubt that this is the best instructional for feet and independence. 3 DVDs, well shot exercises and Thomas Lang's amazing talent .. thats a package everyone should have. Even if one cant do the exercises Lang does, its still interesting to watch how its done.』

Includes: advanced foot-technique exercises contemporary cordination matrix modern playing concepts 4-color poster and bonus feature audio commentary track. 7 hours.』

(Reverent, Riveting, Full of Love)
『When I saw and heard this music broadcast Veteran's Day on TBN and my friends serving in our Armed Forces in Iraq saw it broadcast on Armed Forces Network, I was so happy to find the stereo CD and companion Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound DVD on Amazon. I cannot stop watching it! The 60 minute musical program, reminiscent of the great concept albums of years ago, is one of the most reverent, intelligent and passionate portrayals of America's character ever produced and put on video. It contains many styles of choral music - all superbly performed by the world famous Cadet Glee Club of West Point arrayed in breathtaking formation on the altar of the massive 100 year old Cadet Chapel. Four cameras and 11 microphones capture all action. Archival video footage and pictures from WWII through the Iraq War are interspersed throughout the program honoring the memory of our soldiers past and present.

There are richly textured vocal a capella songs such as "Rise Up O Men of God", "Manisons of the Lord", one of the most popular new hymns written, and "America (My Country `Tis of Thee)". Your buttons will burst with pride when you hear the brand new song "Men of Freedom" introduced by a single Cadet then followed by a cascade of additional voices building to a unified and thunderous declaration of defiant freedom in a style reminiscent of the great Welsh Male Choirs. Four songs highlight the power and majesty of the largest church organ in the world. The 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound will shake your house with its majesty. You'll have to fight the urge to stand at attention when you hear and feel its power kick in on "Lest We Forget", "On Great Lone Hills", "Jerusalem" and "This Christmastide". The musical variety is further enhanced by the addition of brass and percussion for the rousing marches, "The Longest Day" and "Non Nobis". When was the last time you heard these two songs - one by world famous singer, songwriter and teen idol, Paul Anka and the other a medieval celebration of thanksgiving sung in Latin! In addition, "The Longest Day" tells the story of D-Day with historical accuracy and genuine video footage and photos taken on the beaches that day. "Non Nobis" is performed to the backdrop of the traditional brigade march of the Corps of Cadets upon the historic Plain of the US Military Academy - a very rare sight, indeed!

The rich background vocals of the Cadet Glee Club musically frame two songs that underpin the message of this album - Bravery and Sacrifice. "Into the Fire" by NYPD's Daniel Rodriguez made me want to immediately rise up and rush to anyone's aid and when he holds that note at the end - wow! Tony Award Winner Lea Salonga's performance of the classic Christian hit, "Via Dolorosa", (one of the top 50 Christian songs of all time), is "The Passion of the Christ" embodied in a 5 minute song. You will alternate between tears and goose bumps. Her performance of the Spanish stanza will overwhelm you. Finally, Irish song writing master, Phil Coulter's wistful "Take Me Home" is accompanied by beautiful piano and guitar and introduced by a new poem entitled "I Am A Soldier" that is sobering reminder of the oath our soldiers swear to and the actions they are bound to take. God bless them! The sound is superb, the editing is crisp and well thought out and the coloring is gorgeous.

A great bonus of the CD and DVD is that they both include a stylish lyric booklet as well as commentary by the producer on why he chose each song.

On the back cover of the CD and DVD cases is the statement that this production was created to honor the men and women of our Armed Forces, past and present, and the great values of America that they defend. This it surely does!! Also, it states that the producer is contributing a portion of his wholesale proceeds from its sale to organizations assisting our wounded soldiers. Bravo, Mr. Coppi.』

(Magnificent Blues / R&B Series)
『Every once in a while a premium priced DVD set comes along that it worth every dime of its list price. Such a set is The !!!! Beat, a long-forgotten music show from 1966 that is absolutely unbelievable in its scope and quality. The DVD's of this important series are released by Bear Family Records, long known for their quality re-issues of entire catalogues of some of the most revered artists in roots music.

The !!!! Beat, which followed hot on the heels of The Night Train, the first all-black music television show, began production in January 1966, and was the brain-child of famed radio disc-jockey William "Hoss" Allen. The !!!! Beat did The Night Train one better; it was produced in full-color, and guest-starred a who's-who of national and regional stars from the world of Blues and R&B. The six-volume DVD series contains all 26 episodes, and was shot at WFAA in Dallas Texas, one of the few Southern stations to have color facilities at the time. Interestingly, all of the performers were recruited from one of four cities; Nashville, Dallas, Chicago or New Orleans. Most of the performers were managed by "Hoss" Allen or his associates.

The video quality is generally excellent, although there are some imperfections in the source tapes due to the age of the materials. Each DVD contains 4 or 5 half-hour episodes; the performers range from some of the biggest names in R&B or Blues of the time to relative unknowns. Even so, the performances are generally spirited and of the highest artistic quality. Although a number of the performances are lip-synched to any given artist's hit records, many songs were taped "live" with the show's excellent house band. According to the notes in the 20-page booklet which accompanies each DVD, "live" takes outnumber the lip-synched performances about two to one. Each booklet contains the fascinating story behind the show, and a brief bio of each artist! Take a chance on any one volume, and you may find yourself buying the whole series, which is exactly what happened to me.

Volume Five includes performances by Chuck Bernard, Mamie Galore, Robert Parker, Johnny Jones&Gatemouth Brown, Jamo Thomas, Mitty Collier, The Beat Boys, Freddie King, Lou Rawls, Joe Simon, Lattimore Brown, Z. Z. Hill, Frank Howard&The Commanders, Rodge Martin, Gerri Hall, Earl Gaines, Bobby Hebb and Jimmy Church.

Highly recommended.

『Legendary R&B and Soul shows from 1966. The complete shows on DVD for the first time.
