Inside Out U.S.
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Absolutely disappointing) 『I have been a Fates fan since the 80's and have seen them live. This DVD was not good. The cameramen were off sync with the music, wrong guy on solos. The quality is rather low. The dirty stage looked like this was a small time somewhat successful band and the only guy who showed any real energy was Ray. I really enjoy their music but this was a letdown for me. Grateful it was only a NetFlix rental.』
(Well......) 『Even if your a fan, this might be a little boring, they sound killer live though.』
(Calling all Zonders ....) 『first C.o.C. release thier "first ever" live DVD w/ a new drummer after the original was there for 20 years and now after Zonder made FW a household name in progressive and thinking mans metal they choose to put out a DVD with a "fill in" drummer? Even if he is good - the little things Zonder added to the mix were so exciting and are sorely missed. I hope the next FW kicks up the speed and musicianship again. The metal world needs a complex Matheos back in a bad way. I met Zonder at the drum Pad in Illinois and he was awesome.』
(A must for any progressive metal fan) 『I had my concerns about this DVD after watching the poorly produced "Live at Dynamo" Fates Warning DVD and realizing Mark Zonder wasn't playing drums in "Live in Athens", but after hearing the first notes of "One", and watching the overly enthusiastic Greek crowd and the great light show, all my fears were erased and i was soon enthralled about what a great band Fates Warning is and what an awesome set of live songs they perform. The addition of original guitar player Frank Aresti to the live band on this DVD is probably one of the smartest things Jim Matheos and Ray Alder have done in years, he is definitely one of the ingredients missing from the "Live at the Dynamo" performance and i wish he would be back in the band permanently.
Joey Vera is always a great bass player live (and in the studio) and he puts 100% into his performance, and Mark Zonder's replacement, Nick D'Virgilio from Spock's Beard is a more than competent live replacement in this DVD and plays Mark's parts note by note. It was also nice to see footage of Kevin Moore (the original keyboard player from Dream Theater) playing his own great keyboard parts live on the songs from the Disconnected CD.
The extra rehearsal footage is nothing special, with the exception of the two extra live songs performed in Holland with Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater playing drums. If you are a progressive metal fan, you must know by now that Fates Warning invented the genre, and you won't be dissapointed by this great DVD.』
(what were they thinking?) 『I love FW,not in the least because their production values are so high. Which is why I don't understand this dvd's sound mix.All you hear is guitar, and the drums come through adequately too. But WHERE is the bass and the vocal? Buried in the mix unfortunately..... I haven't been able to watch this all the way through because the mix is so bad. What happened? How could Jim, Ray, and Bill Metoyer sit in the booth and say "yeah, this is good"? It's not even "ok". As a professional musician, I just don't get it.This needs to be re-mixed badly. If you enjoy the clarity of Fates other products this will be a disappointment. To the band:sorry, I love the band ,but this mix is not up to snuff.』 『Fates Warning are quite possibly one of the most influential Progressive Metal acts in the world today. In fact, many people credit Fates Warning as being the fathers of today’s Progressive Metal scene, influencing bands such as Queensryche and Dream Theater. Since their first release in 1984, Fates Warning has earned critical acclaim and a rabidly loyal following with their sophisticated and emotionally powerful sound. 21 years, 10 studio albums and over 1 million worldwide sales later, Fates Warning delivers their first release for Inside Out Music America, The concert length DVD Live In Athens. Recorded live in Athens, Greece, Fates Warning rip through 90 minutes of their of best loved material. The DVD also features 30 minutes of bonus footage taken from Bulgarian television, live footage from The 2005 Holland Headway Festival (where they where joined onstage by Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater) and from personal home-movies shot during the preparations for the Athens show. A must for Fates Warning fans as well as all Progressive Metal fans alike!』

(I MISS YOU) 『Harold Melvin's Bluenotes. Carrying on the tradition of the great man himself. These guys stay true to the game, sing all the great songs we know and love and they bring Miss Sharon Paige on to do a couple songs like 'Hope That We Can Be Together Soon.' The dance steps are there, vintage Bluenotes. And they could teach many of the younger generation what it means to entertain an audience. Great Show!』

Arthaus Musik
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Charming in Every Way) 『This is a small, beautifully designed, lovingly executed production, helmed by two talented young singers. No expense has been spared (particularly with the costumes) and director Michael Hampe obviously has a great affection for and understanding of the material. His command of the stage action is perfectly matched by conductor Ralf Weikert's jaunty conducting. Doris Soffel makes a spirited Isabella, and one can certainly understand why she's pining for Lindoro, as played by the boyish, slightly goofy Robert Gambill. They both sing beautifully, although now and then I did worry that Gambill's delicate voice wouldn't make it through the performance. (Watching young singers such as these struggle a bit really makes you appreciate the power and skills of true opera stars.) Gunther von Kannen is amusing enough as Mustafa, although the voice, unfortunately, is all bellow. You may want to wait to see if a starrier "L'Italiana" comes out in future, but for now this a charming, more than professional example of a small company at its very, very best.』
(Funny with decent singing) 『This is a pretty nice video of this opera. There is only one real disappointment: The Mustafa has very little coloratura capabilities. His voice is a pleasant deep bass. The other singers all do fine with the coloratura requirements. The Isabella has a strong edgy mezzo with nicely blended registers. The Lindoro has a nice bright sound with easy high notes. The Taddeo and Haly have pleasant voices. The Elvira has a strong bright edgy soprano. The sets are nice with realistic looking ocean in the background. The costumes are nice. My only qualm about the directing is the little guy dressed in a chimpanzee costume supposedly as a pet of the Mustafa - seemed a little distracting. All in all, this is a good representation of the opera, notwithstanding some of the Mustafa's singing.』
(Intimate production, very well performed) 『The smallness of the theater and set accentuate Rossini's delicate music. The singers are all very good, committed and believable in this crazy story. The conducting and orchestral sound are outstanding. A delightful DVD.』
(SHUFFLING FEET) 『I suppose what the other reader reviews have said is true, BUT:
I was unimpressed by the small stage, scenery, and the acting.
If you turn off the video to just hear the music, you will be treated to an inordinate amount of foot shuffling and strange bangings from the chorus.
I've watched it three times and my opinion remains the same.』
(Perhaps the best Rossini DVD available) 『L'Italiana in Algeri is Rossini at his very best. First performed in Venice in 1813 when Rossini was but 21 years old, this most enchanting opera buffa soon took Europe by storm. Arthaus offers a production conducted by Ralf Weikert that captures magnificently the hilarity and madness of Rossini's first comic masterpiece. The singers and orchestra are magnificent, as are the costumes, sets and props--the live monkey adds a most comical touch! Watching the act 1 finale alone is worth the price of this DVD. Without doubt this would be a terrific first opera for the opera curioius, especially for anyone thinking that opera is always tragic and deadly serious. This production is a real treat, and only gets better with repeated viewings. A bubbling performance all around!』 『L'Italiana in Algeri(The Italian Girl in Algiers), Rossini's first real hit as a writer of comic opera, is one of those almost unsinkable works difficult to get entirely right. Michael Hampe's production for the 1987 Schwetzinger festival captures both its charm and its sense of menace--the court of the Bey is both a setting for farce and a place in which the Italian characters are at the mercy of a despot who will not necessarily find things funny. Gunther von Kannen's Mustafa is a convincing Bey of Algiers, while his adversary, the tough, witty proto-feminist Isabella, is given real presence in Doris Soffel's performance. The slightly effete tenor of Robert Gambill as her lover Lindoro makes him a perfect partner in intrigue for her. Conductor Ralf Weikert is particularly fine in the complicated finale of Act One with its imitations of bells and drums and its complicated vocal lines.--Roz Kaveney』
IPhone 3G used's review (2 LPs in 1) 『These are two Baxter albums for the GNP Crescendo label from the mid-1960s. This music is easy to listen to, though at times the tracks are "tacky." When the mood does strike, however, I do toss this in an find it relaxes me (easily digestible music often has that quality). There is nothing here that makes a strong impression upon listeners. The most one might say after listening would be, "Yeah, I'll give this one a listen again." A week keeper, but a keeper no less.』
(AUDIO NIRVANA) 『WHILE NOT LES BAXTER'S BEST RECORDING, THIS IS STILL A VERY INTERESTING AND FUN SET OF MUSIC. THE REMASTERED JAPANESE VERSION ABSOLUTELY KICKS BUTT ALL OVER THE DOMESTICALY RELEASED VERSION, SO GET IT IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THIS ALBUM THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO SOUND. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED』
(The orchestra needs more instruments but still manages to get the sound and rhythm...) 『This Les Baxter title has some great music on it, but by the time this was released it it obvious he was not given the budget he deseved and loved. Still, he made good use of the tiny "orchestra" and while it is not my favorite, I still enjoy it. Les Baxter helped to create numerous musical styles with subtle influences on music (from the early use of the theremin on his arrangements on "Music Out Of The Moon" to the epic works such as "Ritual Of The Savage"). Before the Beatles, Les Baxter had a very successful decade with Capitol Records! I remember hearing the number one hit "The Poor People Of Paris" when I was only 3 years old. But I did not become familiar with the Les Baxter name until about 5 years ago. Why? I am enjoying his music as if it were new. This CD is fine but not as complex. It has a "pop" chorus on some numbers. I wish all his other material would be released--including all of his soundtracks.』
IPhone 3G used's review (Baby crack...) 『I sing the songs too! Urgh! And I don't see the appeal of this video but my 14 month old has LOVED this since she's been 7 months old. She prefers this particular DVD over any DVD or program on TV. I've got another one of the Baby Song series and I'm in the process of buying another.』
(He likes it... a lot!) 『I absolutely hate this DVD!!!! I hate it because my kid loves it and we watch it constantly... I hate it because some of the songs are catchy and I find myself humming them at work... and I hate it because my wife and I find each other singing along with the DVD. But seriously... there are some good lessons on this one and we have noticed that our son is picking up his shapes. One of the better DVDs from the series.』
(Adults may hate it, but kids will LOVE it) 『My two year old daughter saw this at a friend's house and adored it so much we bought it for her. Adults will cringe at the 80's/90's style clothing and hair, and the lame but catchy tunes and lyrics. Kids, however, cannot get enough of it. It is my daughter's #1 favorite DVD, and it has helped her with letters, shapes, etc. As much as I loathe it, it does what it's supposed it-- keeps our daughter very happy, and gives her some educational benefits to boot.』
(Great For Kids) 『There is no series like Baby Songs that my children like more. It's great for infants to toddlers and is great at teaching.』
(Excellent activity for parents to do with their children) 『I first checked this out from the library when my son was 24 months old. He loved most of the songs, though some were too fast for him to appreciate at that age.
I checked it out for a second time when he was 36 months old and he caught on to those faster songs just fine, but some of the slower sons were boring to him.
At that time, I also had a 12 month old who couldn't have cared less about the songs or images, but he was happy because his big brother was obviously having a good time!
This is not something you can sit your baby in front of and walk away. You have to interact and provide some tools (spoons, bananas, bean bags, etc) for the kids to get involved with the songs. We'll probably end up buying this one, even though we can get it for free at the library.』 『Don't be concerned that this video doesn't have familiar characters on the cover (no purple dinos, no brightly colored space alien babies). This proven series of colorful musical videos is a winner, and the latest,Baby Songs ABC, 123is no exception. Designed for toddlers to 2- to 6-year-olds, this video combines color and movement--and, importantly, other children--to help young viewers remember their numbers and the alphabet. Children's music writer Hap Palmer has provided songs that are genuinely catchy and, like the classic "ABC" song, which helped nearly every English-speaking child learn the alphabet, kids are learning as they're singing. Palmer specializes in purposeful but engaging rhyme and alliteration to encourage kids to sing along, sing on their own, and prepare for reading skills.
Mostly nonprecocious children highlight each segment, often dressed alike in brightly colored garb. Featured songs include "Alphabet in Motion," "Tap Your Sticks," "Shapes That Surround You," "Colors in Motion," "We Are All Alike," "Bean Bag Alphabet Rag" (which also helps kids identify body parts), "Jig Along Shapes," and "Numbers Can Tell About You."--N.F.
