(Great help - thanks Cindy Cashdollar) 『This DVD is really a great place to start if you want to learn the dobro. Cindy Cashdollar is an excellent teacher and wonderful player. The songs are familiar and cover a decent range of styles. She demonstrates the material well and the camera work is good, showing both hands. The sections on holding the instrument and bar are really good. She knows we are starting from scratch. If you learn like I do, by watching and hearing rather than reading, you will get a lot from this DVD. The sound is not the greatest when the band is playing along, but this was in the early days of Homespun and the newer releases are much better in that respect. Overall this is a really solid learning tool that is very helpful. Hearing what Cindy can do with simple material by getting into the sound and tone of the dobro is inspirational. Highly reccommended.』
(STEEL RAG) 『I want to buy a Steel Guitar now but can't find one in the North East I waiting untill I go south on a vacation and check out the Pawn Shops』
(Beginner Dobro) 『I bought both this dvd and the Jerry Douglas DVD. As a true beginner to the dobro, this dvd did a better job at starting with the basics. It breaks everything down so you can really see and understand what is going on. I would recommend both dvd's but would start with this one first.』
(Great Beginning Dobro Video.) 『This lesson is a great guide to all the basics you will need to learn to play the dobro. Begins with tuning (G-B-D-G-B-D) and some basic G scales; with advice on holding the bar properly and what type of finger picks to use. There are strums, slides, rhythmic chops, and a few riffs, as well as hammer-ons and pull-offs. The songs (Wildwood Flower, Sailor's Hornpipe, Fireball Mail, and Wayfaring Stranger) showcase all the techniques you will learn. Video lessons don't get any better than this.』 『Here is a hands-on Dobro course that will teach you to play your favorite bluegrass and country tunes in no time– even if you’ve never played before! Jam-packed with information, this 90-minute DVD utilizes close-ups, split screens and easy-to-follow instruction to make it easy for you to learn.
Cindy Cashdollar, one of the shining stars of the Dobro and lap steel world, helps you develop accuracy and good intonation, and increases your depth of musical knowledge. She details essential techniques such as right hand rolls, rhythm picking, crosspicking, tone control, hammer-ons and pull-offs, damping, chord building, and how the scales and chords fit together to form major and minor melodies. Cindy even discusses Dobro construction and maintenance to give you a full understanding of your instrument.
To help you put all this information together, Cindy teaches four all-time favorite country tunes, each one illustrating a different technique, key or style to prepare you for further Dobro adventures.

I really suggest that Amazon warn about the format - HD....who has a HD DVD player these days???
』
(Unusual coreography) 『I very much disliked the coreography (Nureyev, 1984) and viewers should be warned that it differs considerably from the standard one. For one thing, the "battle" scene in the finale (the Prince vs. Rothbart) has been played down to a few steps! The other negative point of this performance is the spartan bareness of the theater. Why didn't they dress-up the stage at least during the ball scene? I'm hoping this performance will grow on me, so that the 50 dollars I spent on it will start hurting less and less.』
(Beware of this disc) 『Before you purchase this disc, be sure that your receiver will decode its soundtrack. The only soundtrack available on the disc is DTS-HD. Because I'm using an older surround processor, I can't play it because there is no sound. I'm not planning on running out to purchase a new processor just so that I can watch one disc.』
(Ballet in the family room) 『Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake / Nureyev, Letestu, Martinez, Paris Opera Ballet [HD DVD]Since purchasing both a HD DVD and a Blu-Ray player, we have been wondering why there isn't much of a selection for the classical performing arts. Surround sound and high-def picture both lend themselves perfectly to programming such as Ballet, Opera, and Theatre. Swan Lake was the first offering we saw and ordered it immediately. We were not disappointed. The surround sound provided center seating acoustics as well as the live performance sound of the dancer's feet upon the stage......very live performance type of experience. The high-def picture was flawless and provided a depth that gave the impression of a bird's eye view of a live performance. Equipment used Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player; Denon AVR-4806ci receiver; Polk 7.1 speakers; HP MD5880N high-def TV. All connected via HDMI.』
(Great) 『Quality excellent over all but as an earlier review said the camera work could be better.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Absolutely disappointing) 『I have been a Fates fan since the 80's and have seen them live. This DVD was not good. The cameramen were off sync with the music, wrong guy on solos. The quality is rather low. The dirty stage looked like this was a small time somewhat successful band and the only guy who showed any real energy was Ray. I really enjoy their music but this was a letdown for me. Grateful it was only a NetFlix rental.』
(Well......) 『Even if your a fan, this might be a little boring, they sound killer live though.』
(Calling all Zonders ....) 『first C.o.C. release thier "first ever" live DVD w/ a new drummer after the original was there for 20 years and now after Zonder made FW a household name in progressive and thinking mans metal they choose to put out a DVD with a "fill in" drummer? Even if he is good - the little things Zonder added to the mix were so exciting and are sorely missed. I hope the next FW kicks up the speed and musicianship again. The metal world needs a complex Matheos back in a bad way. I met Zonder at the drum Pad in Illinois and he was awesome.』
(A must for any progressive metal fan) 『I had my concerns about this DVD after watching the poorly produced "Live at Dynamo" Fates Warning DVD and realizing Mark Zonder wasn't playing drums in "Live in Athens", but after hearing the first notes of "One", and watching the overly enthusiastic Greek crowd and the great light show, all my fears were erased and i was soon enthralled about what a great band Fates Warning is and what an awesome set of live songs they perform. The addition of original guitar player Frank Aresti to the live band on this DVD is probably one of the smartest things Jim Matheos and Ray Alder have done in years, he is definitely one of the ingredients missing from the "Live at the Dynamo" performance and i wish he would be back in the band permanently.
Joey Vera is always a great bass player live (and in the studio) and he puts 100% into his performance, and Mark Zonder's replacement, Nick D'Virgilio from Spock's Beard is a more than competent live replacement in this DVD and plays Mark's parts note by note. It was also nice to see footage of Kevin Moore (the original keyboard player from Dream Theater) playing his own great keyboard parts live on the songs from the Disconnected CD.
The extra rehearsal footage is nothing special, with the exception of the two extra live songs performed in Holland with Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater playing drums. If you are a progressive metal fan, you must know by now that Fates Warning invented the genre, and you won't be dissapointed by this great DVD.』
(what were they thinking?) 『I love FW,not in the least because their production values are so high. Which is why I don't understand this dvd's sound mix.All you hear is guitar, and the drums come through adequately too. But WHERE is the bass and the vocal? Buried in the mix unfortunately..... I haven't been able to watch this all the way through because the mix is so bad. What happened? How could Jim, Ray, and Bill Metoyer sit in the booth and say "yeah, this is good"? It's not even "ok". As a professional musician, I just don't get it.This needs to be re-mixed badly. If you enjoy the clarity of Fates other products this will be a disappointment. To the band:sorry, I love the band ,but this mix is not up to snuff.』 『Fates Warning are quite possibly one of the most influential Progressive Metal acts in the world today. In fact, many people credit Fates Warning as being the fathers of today’s Progressive Metal scene, influencing bands such as Queensryche and Dream Theater. Since their first release in 1984, Fates Warning has earned critical acclaim and a rabidly loyal following with their sophisticated and emotionally powerful sound. 21 years, 10 studio albums and over 1 million worldwide sales later, Fates Warning delivers their first release for Inside Out Music America, The concert length DVD Live In Athens. Recorded live in Athens, Greece, Fates Warning rip through 90 minutes of their of best loved material. The DVD also features 30 minutes of bonus footage taken from Bulgarian television, live footage from The 2005 Holland Headway Festival (where they where joined onstage by Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater) and from personal home-movies shot during the preparations for the Athens show. A must for Fates Warning fans as well as all Progressive Metal fans alike!』
