『A great 6 track EP that will never be made into a CD. Its very 70/80s, melodic. Pretenders lite (both from Ohio!), but musically very tight and innovative.

I miss music like this.』

(Get this single before it's completely gone!)
『I remember buying this single when it first came out back in 1992. Of course, a lot happened between then and now and I had lost the single. Now, after all this time, I've pruchased a copy of it again and it brings back memories. This single is the only way you can get the remixed single version. It doesn't show up on anything else out there by Color Me Badd, so if you want the true radio version, better get this out-of-print single before all of the copies get sold.』

(Pure Electronic Bliss)
『A mixture of Romantic lyrics and breathtaking eclectronic music, Color Theorys first cd, Sketches In Grey, is a groundbreaking new sound that will take synthpop to a new level.』

(First Album, But Still One of Color Theory's Best!)
『My first taste of Color Theory began with the original version of this CD back in 1996, and I've been a fan ever since. His style has definitely grown and matured a great deal since, but this re-issue, especially with the bonus material, is a must-have for any Color Theory fan. I bought one, so now I have 2 copies including my original!

This album has some real gems on it. The first song on the CD, the first Color Theory song I ever heard, was and remains my favorite Color Theory song ever. "Never Realized" is a great piece, with lyrics I think everyone can relate to on some level... This song is one that lingers in your mind long after you turn the cd player off...

"Shadow in the Shade" gives us a first real feel for Brian's voice with just the piano, and it's beautiful. Although it's not really synth, it fits this album so well, and, in my mind, helps define it as a whole.

The song "Something Here" is an upbeat tune I enjoy simply because I feel like it's about my hometown too...

"Subterranean" is one of Color Theory's darker synth pieces, but I think it's very cool. Brian sounds a lot like Martin Gore in this one. I played this song for my brother, and when I told him it was a very rare hard-to-find Depeche Mode song, he believed me! And he's been into synthpop longer than me...

"Snowing" is another classic favorite of mine, again with a soft blend of quiet synth and piano, punctuated perfectly by Brian's unique vocals. Just wonderful.

The remixes on this re-issue are great too, especially the laundered mix of "Never Realized," which takes that great original and adds a very danceable beat. These extra songs are a great bonus too; I had never heard this remix before I picked up this cd from Brian. Very cool.

The last few tracks are live acoustic versions of the songs on this album and from "Tuesday Song." I like these because they remind me of the days when Brian used to play acoustic shows at local coffee houses... Brian, where did those days go?

Overall, this album is great first venture from a wonderful artist and musician. It contains a lot of fond memories for me, as it has been a regular in my cd player for nearly 5 years now. Pick one up today and start making some memories of your own!』

(Stunning...)
『The first time I heard this cd, I thought, Wow! What a brilliant man, his lyrics were so touching and hes music was beautiful! I'd definitely recommend this cd to anyone! I bought this cd not knowing what I was getting into, now I'm a hooked fan!』

(Finding his voice)
『Being the first album, it is evident that the artist is still trying to find it's own style. You can definately hear various influences in this album. Yet, it has enough interesting moments to see that this band truly has talent and has much to offer. Check out "frozen"』
『Color Theory uses subtle pads and muted rhythms to deliver dance-pop for the coffeehouse, not the club. Recommended if you like Tori Amos, Depeche Mode, Ben Folds Five. Hazard's vocals and piano playing radiate a bedroom ambiance with sonic colors as smooth as satin, lovingly illustrated on "Never Realized", and the upbeat "Something Here". There's something here, indeed.

Due to high demand, Sketches In Grey, the debut Color Theory album, has been repressed. The original pressing sold out in 1998, and has been unavailable until now. It has been completely remastered and 7 new tracks have been added, including live tracks and material unavailable anywhere else - over 70 minutes of music! Much time and effort have been devoted to the mastering process, and the difference is truly remarkable.』

(Color Theory finaly establishes itself for what it is...)
『Brian (we sometimes call Color Theory that) has created an album that removes the synths long enough to get to the roots of what CT is really about. It's about the songwriting. Folk song writing. His previous forays into electronic music are proven to simply be an instrumentation choice and not a gimmick to hide mediocre talent behind.

In the usual Color Theory style Brian brings some very contemporary and moving thoughts to music. What sets him aside from the mainsteam, to my ears, is that he has a composer's sense of melody. He doesn't rely on the conventional and rather plastic pop melodies our ears have learned to ignore. Brian actually knows there's 12 notes in a chromatic scale and has the sense to use them....

What's more important is that he has the goods to deliver. His piano lines dance around the song in a manner that puts him up there with great singer/songwriters like Ben Folds, Tori Amos, or maybe even Bruce Hornsby on a moody day.

This is enjoyable pop music and having the added bonus of hearing Brian's acoustic arranging skills makes this a great album to own...』

(applesauce through a straw)
『i came across this cd from a rufus wainwright reccommendation. imagine a well coiffured member of your local 12 seater church releasing an album. it would have technical merit, yes, but sitting through a cd of ultra-corny vocal and lyrical emoting would lead you to urges of tracking the man down and gleefully beating him out of his cardigan with a bag of nickels. vocally, this sounds like clay aiken's suspiciously feminine 8th grade audition, dave gahn's anemic younger brother who drinks applesauce with a straw. there are some nice piano compositions, but the entirely serious squeeled teenage poetry completely deflates it.』

(SUPERB!!)
『Being a hardened depeche mode fan, I was drawn to color theory through downloads and was suprised that in not time at all, all 5 released color theory albums were in my collection.

I consider each one a masterpiece in it's own right and Brian has the amazing ability to sing about and emotion or feeling with such clarity!

I am a big DM, Erasure, Pet shop Boys fan and having been slightly disappointed by the last two's recent output, this is an absolute breath of fresh air.

If you happen to like one or two songs from color theory, take the plunge and get all 5 albums!! You will be suprised, I was!!』

(Maturity, talent, and experience make this album excellent)
『I have loved the music of Color Theory for years now, and this newest album effort, Something Beautiful is no exception. In a truly impressive manner, Color Theory maintains a high musical standard throughout the album with sophisticated instrumentation, accomplished piano arrangements, and pensive lyrics. While I have specific favorite songs (In This Afterglow, And You Thought I Was Joking), this is an album that demands to be listened to in its entirety. In a time when many albums push for one "catchy" single and then neglect the other songs, Something Beautiful refreshingly sets a strong, high standard which is then adhered to with every song on the album. It is noteworthy to mention that I appreciated the use of real instruments, which was made successful through experienced engineering and production of the album and solid mixing and blending of the songs. Beyond all of this analytical jargon, though, Something Beautiful is simply good music put together with great tenderness and attention to detail. Color Theory shows wonderful maturity and talent in this latest accoustic effort.』

(My favorite Longplayer since Ultra&Perfect Tears)
『Brian Hazard, sole member of Color Theory, worked hard to finish this new album. The final result is absolutely worth all the trouble and setbacks he had while recording. Hazard proves with his first "all acoustic album" that he can do much more than arrange very good piano-driven electronic sounds(like on his 1999 released album "Perfect Tears"). No, he's open-minded to
any other style of good music. "Something Beautiful" combines the perfect arrangement of acoustic instrumentation (violin, bass, piano, flute etc) with (once again!) excellent songwriting and a lot of personal, expressive lyrics. For the first time Brian Hazard worked with a group of studio musicians. And they've done a great job too. With these 11 new songs, Hazard
succeeds in creating an unique mixture of extraordinary Acoustic-Pop-Music with a sensuous classical touch. The album includes a lot of various different moods, many songs sounding totally fresh, joyful, and hopeful (In This Afterglow, Something Beautiful), while others sound minimal and beautifully pure while leaving the listener with a bittersweet impression (such as Alpha Centauri). I can't exactly say what I like the most about "Something Beautiful": the wonderful melodies and refrains of each single song, the strong vocals, or the outstanding warm atmosphere of the whole album. "Something Beautiful" sounds like something new, not just another "Mainstream-Commercial-Music-Trend-Production"! My only criticism of "Something Beautiful" is that the end of the album comes much to soon... so just let the album play on repeat. If you like the style and performance of musicians like Martin Gore, Everything But The Girl, or Tori Amos, you should listen to these songs. And if you decide to
buy this album, I am sure, this will be your most played CD for a very long time!』

『21st Century Piano Pop for fans of Tori Amos, Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds. The instrumentation of the fifth Color Theory album, Something Beautiful, falls somewhere between a rock band and a Broadway musical: piano, vocals, fretless bass, drums (courtesy of the legendary Jonathan Moffett), string quartet, vibraphone, flute, and harp. In a world of disposable art, Brian Hazard creates music of substance to savor for years.』
