『Actually, Gael Chiarella is a life coach, and listening to this c.d. is like meditating with a life coach, rather than a yogini. It might work for some, but I found the wording and imagery especially off-putting. For example, in meditation 2, we're instructed to make positive affirmations about ourselves, like "I am the master of my destiny" and "I am courage in action". Hardly yoga-oriented in the emphasis on the ego, and hard to take seriously in any case. In the final relaxation, she intones over and over "I am peaceful and safe in the arms of my breath." Whatever.』

『This is a great CD set for relaxation. I use it the most in the car, which is probably not the optimal setting, but nonetheless it keeps me relaxed in traffic. Gael's voice and intonation are so very soothing, and the background music compliments her meditations. I was happily impressed with this set.』

(Difficult and complete, for serious practitioners)

『This is a 90-minute advanced-intermediate DVD that contains 30 minutes of meditation and pranayama (breathwork) at the beginning and then one hour of asanas and a final guided relaxation. This is labeled intermediate, but by the standards of most yoga DVDs on the market, in comparison, it's quite advanced. It's not quite as difficult as his advanced DVD, but it comes close. It includes several arm balances, some advanced backbending, and eka pada sirsasana (leg behind head), postures you generally don't find in yoga DVDs. Also, be very comfortable in headstand variations before trying this one.

The asana sequence includes classical sun salutations, abdominal work, a lengthy inversions segment, floor stretching and arm balances and then, inexplicably, a standing and leg balancing segment at the end, right before shavasana (rest). I'm sure he has a great reason for setting it up this way, but I've never seen this before and it did feel kind of strange... though the standing postures felt a lot more meditative this way than when done toward the beginning.

Yogi Hari is an incredible presence. His voice is incredibly soothing (it sounds like he's in a tunnel at times) and his instruction is clear. Though the postures in this DVD are difficult, this is not a fast-paced nor "sweaty" type of routine. It's relaxing and very complete.

I do think this won't appeal to most casual yoga practitioners, however, for these reasons and due to the fact that he doesn't offer any modifications or a lot of instruction. But there is plenty on the market for casual practitioners and beginners. It's nice to find something so challenging and thorough, whose instruction doesn't "get old" after repeated viewings.』

『Georg has summarized ancient teachings quite well. I listened to the tapes several times (and I think you need to in order to thoroughly absorb the depth of the meanings.) Also, every time I listened to the tapes, I've learnt something new. I continue to listen to them when I can. The material may be brief, but full of meanings and it serves as a great introduction to further studies. I just wish that he would include a brief written material as well so it may be easier to follow the tapes.』

I felt it is worth a 3 rating because it is not as detailed or extensive as compared to "The Lost Teachings of Yoga", a 6 disc set. However, it may be perfect for the beginning student of yoga, or for someone pressed for time and looking for an "executive summary". Georg Feuerstein presents his wealth of knowledge and thought provoking material in this convenient format, but "Yoga Wisdom" is a bit too abbreviated for my preferences.』
