IPhone 3G used's review (A Real Yoga Practice, highly recommended) 『If you would like a "real" yoga experience, I would highly recommend this practice. These 3 sessions were previously published on 3 VHS tapes and you get them all on one DVD. It's a bargin for the price. Over 3 hours of practice!
One you get a beginner's workout, excellent instruction and even a good practice for experienced yogis on easy days. You can do either 1/2 hour session, or do together for a full hour.
Two, Couples practice. Well instructed and fun! You even get a poster of all the poses so you can practice on your own time. I found it to be a lovely way to connect with my partner. We practice yoga together, balancing each other (and looking in each other's eyes to feel our love).
Third (and the best), is the intermediate workout (Dynamic Yoga). Stephen Cope has a very soothing voice, challenging poses held for a good amount of time with plenty of time between poses to connect and meditate. Thoughout the practice he will have you ask yourself "how do you feel today?" He doesn't talk too much and the last part of the practice you tune into your own feelings, listening to what your body needs, and do the poses that feel right for you. Very nice relaxation at the end (and not rushed). I love this workout! I find it very self-enlightening and challenging. I feel so good afterwards.
Also, the menu system on the DVD is layed out very well. Easy to choose which session and where you want to start (you can bypass the intro/talking). My only complaint might be that the participants in the class are a bit serious. Not a big deal though.
See my other yoga DVD reviews on Amazon. Namaste.』
(Gentle Yoga) 『The trainers on the tapes are very calm which adds to the calming effect practicing yoga has on me. I like the clear instructions the trainers give me, both verbally and visually and the constant encouragements they add.
The only tape of the 3 that I will not get any use out of is the Partners Yoga as I have no one to do these exercises with.
I recommend the Gentle Yoga and the Dynamic Yoga heartily though.』
(Finding it a great pace) 『As an obese woman doing yoga, I find the Gentle Kripalu on this DVD particularly helpful and easy to do. Some of the positions themselves are tricky due to my lack of motion range, but the pacing is nice, and I enjoy being able to follow the verbal instructions, rather than stop mid-pose to look at the screen and figure out what I'm doing.
The trickier poses just give me something to strive for-- if I could do everything right away, it wouldn't give me the incentive to keep trying!』
(Very nice workouts-) 『This is the same 3 workouts as in the boxed set, and I have already written one review for that, so this will mostly discuss the DVD interface.
The DVD is set up well. It is broken up into the 3 workouts, and you can choose one as played on VHS with one click. If you wish to customise, it is a bit harder, but possible. They have broken down the workouts into the postures, and you can choose individual postures, or go into program mode (if your DVD player has one), and set up a unique yoga session from within the different workouts. Of course, they are so very different that I don't see doing this very often, but maybe a bit of Gentle to relax after a few Dynamic asanas might work. The interface is decent, but I have seen DVDs that are easier to navigate. My biggest complaint is that they really should have made it easier to split Gentle in half the way it is on the VHS version. They also have chosen to array the asanas in an oval, and you need to switch buttons to travel through the oval, which is a bit annoying, but not a big deal once you do it once or twice.
The workouts are nice- Gentle is a good intro to yoga, and breaks into 2 short (30 min) routines making it a great short morning or evening routine. Dynamic is rather long, and much tougher than the Gentle. I would describe it as a well paced, workout that flows well, but much slower than a Power Yoga workout. Partner yoga is a nice way to connect with your spouse or SO. I find that is the one we use the least, as it requires us both to wish to practice yoga at the same time.』
『Kripalu Yoga - Partner Join husband-and-wife teaching team Todd Norian and Ann Greene as they lead you through a spirited flow of partner postures. A series of 44 "doubles" yoga postures, including warm-ups, standing and balancing postures, forward bends, twists, inversions, meditation, and a guided deep relaxation.
Kripalu Yoga - Gentle Two complete and distinct gentle yoga experiences: first flow 32 minutes, second flow 28 minutes. Includes warm-ups, a variety of floor postures, basic standing postures, a meditation-in-motion posture flow, and relaxation. A well- rounded experience--great for increasing flexibility, releasing tension, opening the spine, back care, and gentle strengthening. Appropriate for all levels.
Kripalu Yoga - Dynamic A dynamic sequence designed to awaken the wisdom of your body as you build strength, endurance, focus, and concentration. A classical series of 30 asanas including warm-ups, standing postures, salutations, balancing postures, floor postures, twists, and inversions, ending with a meditation-in-motion posture flow and relaxation. Postures familiar to most intermediate-level practitioners.』
『The formatting ofKripalu Yogaensures variety for participants of all experience levels. The three separate programs on this disc are "Gentle Yoga," "Dynamic Yoga," and "Partner Yoga." Each of these sessions promotes body awareness and encourages students to work within their flexibility range by offering modified postures. "Gentle Yoga" includes two 30-minute flows with standing and floor postures, balancing poses, and centering exercises for beginners and advanced students alike. The "Dynamic Yoga" workout takes a meditative approach to movement while focusing on the core of the body (and breathing). Familiar postures like warrior and triangle are performed with greater intensity and repetition than in the "Gentle" segment. Spanning just over an hour, this session offers an intermediate workout that incorporates challenging poses and continuity. Despite the increased difficulty level here, participants of all levels should find this section approachable. Lastly,Kripaluuses an unconventional application of traditional yoga poses inPartner Yoga. This workout runs approximately 60 minutes in length and highlights the strength- and flexibility-enhancing benefits of performing postures with a second person. Working with a partner while executing seated and standing poses can help increase balance and deepen the movement into poses. Although progressive in thought, working with a second source of balance may seem corny and inconvenient for some participants (a diagram is included with this DVD in case of any confusion on specific partner posture formation). Both convenient and easy to navigate, this DVD presentation ranks high for its content and layout.--Olivia Voigts』 fetish『 Yoga Chant 』

The instructions are clear and the breathing flows nicely, though it's probably not recommended for people who are brand new to yoga, where visual cues would be helpful. The yoga nidra and pranayama sections are superb. I have almost all of Shiva Rea's yoga CDs and would definitely recommend them all.』
(a beautiful discovery) 『I have been a yoga practitioner my entire life (a long time) and this is a lovely addition to my regular class schedule. It allows me to do a guided practice in a hotel room or rooms of my house without a tv screen. The music provides a soothing, spiritual background.』
(Open Your Heart) 『It is unfortunate that I have only done this workout twice before I injured my rotator cuff (not due to the workout)! I was a little apprehensive about useing a cd but now that I have I find it a wonderful experience. I am able to go a little deeper "within" than I do with a dvd. This is probably because I don't have any attention directed toward a screen! I found the practice to be solid and the OM and kirtan chanting awesome. Not for beginners of course. My shoulder is just about healed and I will be so happy to regularly practice with Shiva again.』
(Great guided work-out) 『Shiva Rhea successfully delivers again with this voice-guided yoga work-out. Intense enough to work up a sweat, but also flexible enough to accomodate both intermediate and advanced practicers. I also enjoyed the background music that is played throughout. You will definitely need to be familiar with yoga postures and their names in order to benefit from this CD. It's best to start off doing yoga with a live instructor anyway. If you are intermediate to advanced, this is a nice rounded out practice that you can do at home. I highly recommend it.』
(Balanced Sequence for the Experienced Practitioner) 『Don't be put off by the title - foremost this CD set offers a well-rounded flow of asanas that are complemented by the chanting at the end of the second CD. Jai Uttal's music is ideal accompaniment. Rea has, as usual, designed the tracks to be accessible for different needs - length of time, type of practice, time of day, etc. I especially apprecite the gems of poetry (Hafiz) and thought (Upanishads) she has interspersed with her instruction. Altogether a worthwhile purchase!』
IPhone 3G used's review (Very Relaxing and Uplifting) 『It is my first yoga chants CD and I did not know what to expect when I bought it. I thought I would play it in the background when I do yoga or pilates. But I discovered a world of beautiful and emotional songs, which I listen when I am tired or stressed and they don't get on my nerves, like another reviewer said, but relax me - and believe me, I am an active business woman, who rarely has time to sit down for a proper lunch. Of course, I may do emails or dishes when I listen, but it is still great.
Even my husband, who's not into yoga at all, doesn't tell me to turn it down. I don't know if he enjoys it, but, normally, when music bothers him, he turns it off and tells me not to listen when he's there. :-)
This is my opinion and I guess your experience may be different; it is somehow similar to the sound of the waves. It relaxes some people, but it annoys others.』
(Eh) 『I bought this CD hoping to use it for my yoga classes -- but it's not really what I was hoping for. To me it's just a bit too repetitive, and the children singing in the background are a bit... well, annoying. I will say that it is upbeat and happy, but I didn't find it inspiring or motivating.』
(Effective Yoga Chants) 『I really enjoy this CD. It is a great companion to my Yoga practice.』
(Hypnotic) 『I wasn't sure the first time I listened to this CD if I liked it. It wasn't what I was expecting. It's more than just chants, with music and percussion. After about two more times, I was hooked. The Sanskrit chanting is soothing and makes me want to join in the singing. Very pretty and puts you in a lovely state of mind.』
(Uplifting chants!!) 『I love this cd. Chanting does not have to be slow and deep. This one really gets you moving. Use it for yoga or to help with chants or meditation. I find it very uplifting, especially Wah!. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in yoga, relaxation or meditation.』 『WOMEN’S YOGA CHANTS

IPhone 3G used's review (Handle With Care) 『This a tape that features a number of Tibetan yoga's pranayama (breath control) exercises. But beware: almost every exercise emphasizes retaining (holding) the breath as long as you can. For anyone with hypertension or heart problems, this is DANGEROUS. One yogi I studied with explained that breath retention was rarely considered a means of improving health; rather, it was considered an adjunct to meditation that was generally recognized as good for the soul, bad for the physiology. While very moderate breath retention is probably safe, anything involving even mild strain is a no-no. Buy this tape if you're curious, but don't hold your breath! And please, please read Iyengar's Light on Pranayama, the most comprehensive book on breathing exercises extant. Iyengar specifically addresses the limitations of those with hypertension, hypotension, etc., and teaches accordingly.』
(A treasure of valuable practices) 『The video is very good, it teaches ancient practices treasured at the heart of the vast spiritual knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism. These are not teachings that you will find everywhere in bookshelves. For any meditator this teaching could be really valuable. The landscapes, and Lama Surya's spiritual energy and compassion makes this video wonderful!』
(No energy, much hectic) 『My expectation of watching a video with this topic is that the instructor shows at least some inner focus towards what he is teaching. This instructor is just plain hectic and restless. The exercises itself may be useful but the instructor takes away all the energetic exercises by simpley being incongruent in his teachings. Watching this video makes you feel nervous ,too after some minutes. Although the landscape in the background looks nice, the rest is amateur performance. Bad ratio between price and information.』
(A Wonderful Video to Help Us Gain Health!!!) 『This video gives us 30 minutes a day to regain both our mental and physical health. The exercises are purely Tibetan and purely wonderful. Lama Surya Das instructs us outdoors in a beautiful Colorado oasis (lake, trees, forest) and we learn how to take care of ourselves. These exercises are also a brilliant preliminary to our meditation. Nourishing, or balancing, both sides of our bodies, we are deeply harmoninized and ready to funtion in our highly-stressed world. The exercises also stand alone so that you don't have to meditate. Or we could even go a step further and state that these exercises are meditation. The wonderful thing about movement exercises is that they blend our meditation into our everyday life. With mindful moving and eyes open, this is crossing the boundary between meditation and non-meditation. One can practice meditation 16 hours a day! And these eight exercises are so valuable because they "crack" the body's inhibitions and dissolve the negativities there within. Releasing...releasing...releasing. Releasing the past, releasing the future, and just being in the all-fulfilling present. Problems shrink in size and become "workable". The past seems "understandable" now. The eight exercises are all done seated. You will love this tape. I am sure that you will do the exercises. And see the difference in your daily life. A simply wonderful video. An 11-page study guide with three books listed at the end as additional resources. Good luck!』 『Tibetan Energy Yogapromotes a healthy and harmonious flow to the energy system through eight exercises that focus primarily on breathing techniques. Lama Surya Das leads this 30-minute session with special concentration on the balance and purification of yoga (meaning union). Surya Das explains that we all have solar (male) and lunar (female) energies within ourselves that can be directed toward cleansing and grounding our spiritual being. Each of the eight exercises has three phases: the first stage is called filing up (or inhaling deeply), the second is holding (or meditating), and the third is grounding (or releasing). The last of these three is done with great fervor and Surya Das encourages an external release through vocalization (almost growling). This portion of the workout is definitely not for the soft-spoken or shy participant because it requires a total release of inhibitions. The format is more spiritually charged than your sweatin' to the oldies video--chanting and prayer play an integral part. The foundation of this set is meditation. Exercises enhancing flexibility that are usually part of a yoga format are not present here. In fact, the whole class is conducted in one sitting position with limited utilization of major muscle groups. The scenery is beautiful and the music is peaceful, which almost seems to contradict abrasive exercises like "in the lion's roar" and "bep-Chung" (meaning small jumps from a seated position). This unique yoga configuration closes out with concentrated mediation and the wisdom mantra (a haunting chant that may leave you humming the next day). Despite the lack of physical challenge here, participants may experience some stress relief and learn a chant or two.--Olivia Voigts』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Great for Meditation) 『I could talk about yoga, but what I really want to express is my love of both CDs. One is a 1-minute timer; the other, a 3-minute timer. For the 1-minute CD, which I like a lot, you can be immersed in an effective meditative state, then hear a very gentle, low-pitched (and cool-sounding)gong every minute. I've found that each minute is longer or shorter than what it seems, depending upon how free I am in the spaciousness of my being or how trapped I am in monkey-mind. Same with the 3-minute CD. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone for both yoga AND meditation.』
(Just what my home practice needed!) 『My home practice was frustrating, because I could never judge how long I was holding a posture. This cd takes care of that problem so I can get out of my head and into my asana. The soothing sound of ocean waves reminds me to come back to ujai breathing during my practice. The 1 minute and 3 minute intervals are great for those who prefer a yin style of yoga (like me). You can use this cd for spontaneous posture sequences or with your favorite book of asanas. My home practice frequency and length has increased. It's a great purchase.』 『The 2-CD set YOGA TIMER, produced by author and Yoga Research Society Director Vijayendra Pratap, Ph.D., DYP, features soothing, natural atmospheres of P.C. Davidoff which are designed to enhance one's yoga regime. On the first disc, listeners are bathed in the nourishing serenity of the ocean, as its waves tumble onto a white, sandy shoreline. A temple gong sounds at one-minute intervals to guide yoga practitioners. The second disc drops the listener into a secluded corner of a forest at sunrise. Here the sounds of melodious birdsong fill the air. During this track, a temple gong sounds at 3-minute intervals. This is a great program for releasing stress and developing focus during a yoga session.』
