(Let's get ready to rumble) 『I am a woman. I am a woman who doesn't follow sports much in real life, nor do I watch movies about sports. The only reason I picked this up was because I have a thing for Garrett Hedlund as eye candy and I am a fan of Billy Bob Thornton. I could care less about a football movie. Still, this was a good movie. Following in the footsteps of the great sports movies (The Natural, Rudy, Rocky, etc.), we are rooting for the underdog and feeling a great joy when someone triumphs over a great obsticle.
We are following the 1988 high school football season of the Panthers in a small Texas town. We are in America's heartland, Texas, a state that practically throbs with national pride and a love of football. Football is important, and you feel the exuberance of all the star team members as they interact with the townsfolk and media. Each has their own struggle, Garret Hedlund's probably being the most with an abusive father (Time McGraw) and his obvious popularity with the girls (gotta love that scene where the girl gives him a Rice Krispy sculpture!). Billy Bob is a stereotypical hard nosed coach, gruff and demanding. He pushes them as hard as he can. And they triumph.
A great feel good movie about overcoming. It just happens to be a sports movie too.』

The one thing I have come to appreciate is the very fact that if it were not for the misfortune of B. Miles, this movie and the recognition this team and individuals received would have never come about. One comes to the conclusion that Miles's misfortune has followed him in many ways into adulthood.
The flaw of the movie is the many unanswered question marks left behind. For instance, was the mother of our QB hero sick or addicted ? What was the clasroom and campus atmosphere really like for the players ? What about school work and part time jobs ? The movie was grand and because of its breadth many things that should have been focused on were not.
But this movie in its grandness pulls beyond any perceived flaw it may have.

(Great movie, terrible product.) 『I enjoyed the film and would rate it 4/5 stars. However, this review is of the product itself - the film's Blu-ray disc edition. I have a Sony receiver, and watched the (Sony!) Blu-ray disc on my Sony PS3.
The picture is great, but the sound mix is AWFUL. 50% of the time people are whispering their dialogue and you have to crank up the volume. The other 50% of the time, the soundtrack/explosions/other sound effects are so loud you have to really dial back the sound. It's as if the sound engineer had two buttons on his mixer - "quiet" and "loud" - with no dynamic range in between.
Watching this movie was like watching a television show that only included used car ads.... "whisper whisper BUY A NEW CAR NOW AT JOE'S CAR PALACE whisper whisper whisper."

(Cage-Niccol Collaboration A Tour-De-Force) 『"Lord of War" is a crafty, deceptively powerful film that comes off as a black comedy, but when measured in full effect, also serves as a potent statement on world arms, cynicism, and the very human of mental conditions - rationalization.
The movie follows the career of Yuri Orlov, played by Cage, who steadily but artfully crafts a career as an arms merchant, eventually becoming one of the world's most successful at his trade. Along the way, he accumulates a trophy wife (beautifully played by Bridget Moynahan), his brother (played by Jared Leto) becomes a drug addict, he becomes rich beyond his wildest dreams, and he acquires a mortal enemy in a persistent Interpol agent, played by Ethan Hawke.
It is not an understatement to say that Yuri goes through cataclysmic changes, and loses his soul and humanity along the way. As amoral a creature as we have seen in recent films, he can make excuses and has an answer for everything he does. Cage plays him first as an ambitious hustler who gets in over his head, then as a savvy professional, and finally, as an amoral, venal, megalomaniac who only cares about himself and his business. Everything else is to be managed, lied to, and avoided.
Andrew Niccol has become quite savvy at writing and/or directing films that make very adept and pointed social commentary with films like Gattaca, The Truman Show, The Terminal, and Simone. But he may have topped himself with this film, which take a hard look at the buying and selling of arms like any other commodity. "The Lord of War" is a fine, provocative film that takes a hard look at how cheap life can become when money and power are in play.』

IPhone 3G used's review (Mixed opinion) 『What can I say. The game was nearly the worst PC game I have ever played. It was a "Port" game and the controls were keymapped to "Awkward" right out of the box. Game play was simplistic and most of the humor was forced.I beat the game in about 4 hours. Not a lot of content.
Now while I was playing there was always the hint of what the game could have been. Maybe somebody up the product chain had a vision that got molested before it got to retail, dunno. There were a few moments that had potential. The UFO thing was funny and totally well set-up before it attacked. Brief as it was, that was a good moment. Some of the animations are worth looking at if you like BBW.
So even for $5.99 the game really isn't worth the money unless you just like to burn through cheap, bad games in your spare time. 』
