(It's time to duel!) 『 This was KONAMI's first try at making a Yu-Gi-Oh game.....and it was a complete success! In this game, there are five dueling stages. You have to beat everyone in one stage five times, in order to unlock the next stage.
The stages and the duelists within them are as follow:
STAGE 1 - Tristain Taylor - Joey Wheeler - Mai Valentine - Mako Tsunami - Yugi Mutou
This game is cool because if you collect Yu-Gi-Oh cards, you have an advantage! At the lower left-hand corner of each card, there's an eight digit password. When you choose "Password" on the Main Menu, and type in the password - the card will be recorded in your chest. When you beat someone in a duel, a random card will also be added to your chest! But what's this 'chest' ? Your chest is where the game keeps stored all the cards that you have earned so far. Your deck has to have 40 cards, so when you want to add a card to your deck - all you do is go to your chest! You also have a duelist volume. You earn points that are added to your duelist volume when you win duels. Each card has a number from 0-255. Obviously, the higher the number, the stronger the card. So even if you get a card added to your chest, that doesn't mean that you'll soon be able to add it to your deck if you want. The higher your deck volume, the more stronger cards you'll be able to add to your deck. Cards like "Feral Imp" (ATK/1300 DEF/1400) is kind of weak, so it's only worth 27 points. Easy to get even with a low deck volume. Cards like "Blue Eyes Ultra Dragon" (ATK/4500 DEF/3800) or "Gate Guardian" (ATK/3750 DEF/3400) cost 255 points! You must get more points for your deck volume to make your deck volume really high! That way, you'll be able to add very powerful cards like that to your deck.
"Yu-Gi-Oh: Dark Duel Stories" also comes with three random cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. The awesome game also lets you create your own cards by putting to halves together. Kind of like fusion monsters. Besides that, if you have a Link Cable, you can link two Game Boys together and duel against someone who also has this game. You can even trade cards with them!
Overall, this game is a must have. We all know that Game Boy Color games are so old and unpopular, but this one is must have! This game is one that you will never ever get bored with. I, myself, am not that big of a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh. I mean, it's not bad, yet it's not good. It simply is okay. However, this game is all you could want!!!!!』
(Not half as good as some of the newer games) 『As much as I'm a fan of Yugioh, I'm sad to say that lately my oppinion of the game has gone down the toilet. Games like Nightmare troubadour are better. For one, the monsters have.. Element types?... Sure that makes it easier to win, but it's just... weird. You can't even play more than one trap card, only one can be in play at once, and if it's not used in one turn, it's gone. All the card effects are messed up, so if you play the card game, then consturct your deck in DDS the same way, It's almost Guarenteed to fail. Since when does the Harpie lady sisters say "+2 power for own harpies dragon"? If your a huge fan of the series, then I would say buy it. Same to if your just starting out. But if your an experienced duelist and have a DS, I say go straight for Nightmare Troubadour, unless you want every game created.』

(short and not all that sweet) 『Well, let me start out the review by revealing that I'm one of the many twenty-something year old SpongeBob fans out there. So when I saw there was a SpongeBob game for Gameboy Color, I just had to check it out. What followed was almost a throwback to the old NES days of mediocre 1-hour games that dragged things out through mundane repetition and frustrating difficulty.
On the good side, the graphics are colorful and do a decent job of representing the look of the show. You also get to talk to various characters from the show (although the extent of the conversation is usually just a one-sentence comment). Unfortunately, the decent job of creating a SpongeBob look/feel is about the only good thing THQ managed to pull off here.
The gameplay is..well..rather poor. It boils down to standard platform gaming with fairly stiff controls. Usually, the levels scroll upwards or to the right, leaving you to jump from platform to platform while dodging and/or attacking enemies until you simply reach the end of the level. Platform jumping can be a nightmare as the screen will often scroll past moving platforms in mid-jump, leaving you trying to blindly guess where the platform is so you can attempt to land on it. Fighting enemies isn't much better. Despite several different weapons, some enemies are hard to kill (often due to sluggish controls), and getting hit is often unavoidable (usually knocking you off a platform and sending you hurling back to the bottom of the level so you get to experience the dull repetition of ascending the whole area over again). You can also only get hit twice, meaning you'll find yourself dying often despite the plentiful supply of healing items (extra pants) found in each level. In short, the areas themselves are boring and repetitive, the gameplay is frustrating, and you're usually forced to play the levels again and again until you manage to survive. Of course, there are a few bosses thrown into the mix, but they aren't exactly noteworthy and do little to add value to the gameplay.
So why did they make game so tough and frustrating? Well, it appears to be an attempt to drag out what is actually a rather short game. I'd say there are only about half a dozen short levels (hard to count since everything is sort of connected as one area), which probably took me somewhere between 1 and 2 hours to complete even with all of the repetition.
Well, the bottom line is that SpongeBob fans might want to cautiously check it out, but they shouldn't expect too much. Younger gamers will probably find the game too repetitive, difficult, and frustrating to hold their attention. Older gamers will probably find it dull, repetitive, frustrating, and short. Overall, the game does an extremely poor job of capturing the fun that most fans would expect from the SpongeBob license.』

He must get past a few puzzles and deal with boss creatures as well. Pretty standard stuff overall, maybe too standard.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Legend of the Lost Spatulalacks the inspiration of a Mario or Rayman title, and barely comes close to the humor and whimsy of the excellent cartoon show on which it's based. Still, the violence is cartoonishly entertaining, the characters are vibrant, and the graphics are quite good. Fans of the show might be able to overlook its faults, but the game could have been better.--Andrew S. Bub
