『I bought a package of these Verbatim color lightscribe CDs over a year ago and have made many wonderful gift-quality CDs for friends and family. Early on, I messed up the burning on a red CD (my fault), so I burned a fun image with lots of variable contrast on the lightscribe side. I've truly mistreated this CD. I've left it in the sun, lost if for a while under the couch, and it has sat for months under my halogen desk lamp. The printing has not faded at all, and has maintained its original contrast. Other than this single CD, I have had NO coasters.』

『Got a 25 pack of the colored CD-Rs. After going through all 25 I now have 15 working discs and 10 coasters. Half of the ones that did work aren't recognized on my Mac or on my PC, it just shows that there are 0 bytes available and 0 bytes free (though they do play in my CD player in my car). The ones I could get to burn I had to put in multiple times before iTunes would recognize it as a blank CD, and Toast completely froze whenever trying to burn some discs and had to Force Quit. Had no problems with burning the labels, though even after adjusting contrast settings they're not very dark and look somewhat blurry. Overall it's just an incredibly bad product and I'm very dissatisfied.』

『I have had very poor success with HP products on my Mac Tiger operating system and should have known better than to order the new K8600 wide format printer. It connected okay and said the software loaded okay. The printer performed test functions as it should but that is were things went bad. When trying to print from the computer it would signal that there was no paper. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it and it printed a page from the computer beautifully. Next time I tried I had the no paper signal again. Once again I tried reloading the software. This proceeded to trash my ability to download anything. I finally had to erase my hard drive and rebuild my computer operating system to get my computer back on line. This was on a Mac-mini 1.42 GHz with 1 GB of memory and plenty of hard drive and memory space. I tried the printer on my iBook to be sure it wasn't my computer and got the same no paper signal. I quit right there before I trashed my iBook. I suspect an HP software problem. I have returned the K8600 through Amazon's excellent no hassle return policy and am waiting the arrival of an Epson Stylus 1400 wide format, also from Amazon. The Epson products seem to be very compatible with Mac's OS 10 system.

Also of note is that all HP Customer Service has been sent overseas to India, Thailand, or who knows where. The tech people actually speak English fairly well but do not understand it that well. If your problem is anything outside of routine it is very likely that you will get transferred from department to department and end up having your time wasted and no resolution to your problem. HP now has a red circle around it with a line through it as far as I am concerned.』

『If any graphic design artists need to print in CMYK and wide format, this is probably the best printer you can get in terms of cost and quality. The 88 ink is super cheap and it pumps out a LOT of pages. If you plan on doing a lot of printing but don't wanna pay as much as a laser jet printer, you should use a printer that uses the 88 ink. For 20.99 this cartridge can give you 1200 pages. What other cartridge on the market can do that for so cheap??? What's even better is how 34 bucks you can get the XL and the XL can do 2400 pages. Again, what cartridge do you know of can give you 2400 pages for 34 bucks? It's a great printer at a great price when you can find it on sale.』

『I did a whole bunch of research and settled on the CanoScan 8800F. I used it to scan old color slides from my childhood. The only problem was that the slides are very dirty and the scanner is so good that it picked up all the dirt and scratches... I'm planning on cleaning the next batch of slides first. I also used the scanner as a copying machine (direct to printer) the other day and was very impressed. I'm very happy with this scanner.』

『I've used a few other scanner models (Microtech, Canon, etc.) but this one is by far the best. The scans have been awesome so far (pictures only). The best feature is the no warm up time of the LED. The scans are fast! The only negatives are the button features are not intuitive, though I have never been a button fan instead always using the functionality through the software so no biggie. Also, learning to put photos in the upper right hand corner of the scanner is kind of reverse engrish. Other than that, nice looking and great functioning scanner. Would purchase again.

『Previous reviews of the Canoscan 8800f were very helpful in deciding which multi purpose scanner to purchase to replace scanners I've been using for years. I have 100's of personal and old family slides to scan, as well as needing to scan sketches and drawings for my own art work. In the few days I've owned the Canoscan 8800f, I've scanned several line drawings (8.5" x 11"), and over 150 35 mm slides. For both purposes, this scanner seems is more than adequate and will continue to be as I gain more knowledge of all it can do and consequently place more demands on the scanner. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the slide scans - the first time I've seen such high quality in other than a Nikon dedicated slide scanner. the software options seem to have enough user control to handle what I need to do. As with other positive reviews, color, quality, grain handling, unsharp masking all seem to work fairly well, especially given the price of the scanner.

One review discussed light artifacts in the upper corners when doing slide scans, which I also experienced. They suggested putting paper under the slide holder tray, covering the finger cutouts. This was an extremely useful tip, as I began to notice the artifacts on my scans. Paper under the slide holder tray, covering the finger cutouts works. thank you to that reviewer.

I bought the 8800f because of lack of warmup time with the LED lights. With previous scanners, warmup times quickly discouraged me from continuing the effort to scan all my slides. Quality has not been this good before on scanners I've used before, either. While not lightning fast (4 minutes for 4 slides @ 2400 dpi), the lack of warmup time eliminates a major frustration in batch scanning. Eventually, I'll scan the majority of my slide collection.

Regarding resolution, it is my understanding (though I'm no expert) that the emulsion on most 35mm film is equal to about 3200 (plus or minus) pixels in the longest direction. Scanning at 2400 dpi yields approximately 3224 pixels in the longest direction. In my estimation, while scanning at higher rates may be useful for larger printing, it may not be necessarily useful for screen viewing, or normal printing up to 8" x 10". Higher resolutions may, in fact, make images appear `blurrier' due to exceeding the effective resolution of the slide film emulsion. Given that it takes significantly more time to scan at higher resolutions, it may not be worth it for most users in most circumstances.

Overall, this is a great scanner.』

『I had a Nikon Coolpix scanner and it produced fantastic scanned film images but at great expense and time. I would never live long enought to scan all my film images. So I tried the Epson Perfection V700 Photo Color Scanner for about $500. I returned this Epson product because it wouldn't automatically recognize the film images for auto thumbnails. I then bought the Canon 8800F for only $175 and it is easy to use, produces images just as good as the Epson but at 1/3 the price. It too fails to automatically recognize the images on 35mm film for thumbmails but it is much easier to just crop what you want from the total film strip produced on your computer screen. Further, you can easily zoom in on the film strip image to make cropping much easier before you scan. The software provides an excellent human interface so it is natural to use. This is a GREAT value.』

(A Big Step Up from my Brother MFC-8460)
『I use a Brother MFC-8460 in my other office and have been very pleased with the performance and reliability. I was about to buy a second one for a new office but came across an incredible deal on this MFC-9440cn (hard to pass up a color laser unit at the same price as the 8460 B/W unit!). Having bought it without seeing it in person I was a bit concerned, but when it arrived it exceeded my expectations.

Pros:
* Quality construction: The weight of the unit and the quality feel of the machine is simply a cut above that of the 8460. And I am happy with the 8460 at its price, so I am really pleased with this unit!
* Easy set up: While it is not a light unit, once you have it where you want it is very easy to set up. The instructions are easy to follow: Remove the protective tape, insert the toner cartridges and install the software. The software immediately located the printer on the network and configured everything without any issues.
* Works: Every function that I have used worked the first time without any glitch or need to dig out manuals. (By the way, if you do need the manual it is nice that Brother includes a hefty printed manual instead of having to find the CDROM to get help.)
* Quality Output: All of the tests that I have run have produced very nice output, including color photos on regular copy paper. (By the way, the one reviewer who rants that it uses color toner when printing black and white is incorrect. Like most color printers, it WILL use color if you leave the preferences in Auto or Color mode, but if you change your preferences to Mono it does indeed only use the Black cartridge. Read the software manual, page 39!)

Cons:
* Slow for the first page out. Has to warm up and process stuff and therefore takes more time to get the first page out than the 8460 B/W unit. After the first page it is fine.
* Run that fan! The first time you print something be ready to hear a real fan running hard! At least in comparison to the 8460 B/W unit, this unit has a more robust fan and it uses it. I am sure that it also generates more internal heat due to the four toner cartridges, so this more powerful (and therefore noisier) fan is actually a Pro and not a Con, but it was surprising how much more fan noise this unit produces vs. the 8460.

Overall, very pleased. And with the price that I paid (under $400), a downright steal! Even without that deal, I would feel very comfortable recommending this highly at its normal prices since I think the quality of the product is that much better anyway.』

『Like most, I was skeptical about all-in-ones. In fact, I waited a year longer than ideal to buy one, crossing my fingers that the "next" model would get all the bugs out. Well - this one did it. First a disclaimer.....I had my professional IT guy from my office come over to set it up/network it for my family and wife's business, etc and I max'd out the RAM from day one since I know color printing large docs can clog any machine up. With RAM being so cheap I recommend this to anyone doing large print jobs or photos of any kind.

So, given the machine's great performance with every function, I can only conclude that those who did not rate this product with 5 stars must be experiencing "user-error" at some point in the process. And don't be shy about buying a Brother machine - I too felt loyal to HP but based on most reviews and functionality (i.e. the Brother does faxing and the color laser HP does not - at the time I wrote this) this machine was the right choice.

Not only is this machine doing it all right, but it is actually performing its print, fax, copy and scan functions better than the previous 4 separate pieces of equipment we used to have. Most contend that this is an impossibility. Now that is a BIG bonus!』

『You read the title right. Tech support assures me it uses up color toner even during black printing. I have tons of black toner and rarely use color but I can't even print black right now until I pay brother $350 for new COLOR cartridges!

The advertised costs are completely false, your will spend $450 per toner replacement because you need to replace the color as well as black toner. I talked to two different tech support people because I really couldn't believe it.』

『After suffering through 2 really poor HP printers I decided it was time to good for the gold and get a Brother MFC-9440CN. I found the Brother easy to set up and the print quality to be everything I needed. The Photo quality is not as good as an inkjet but is better then any magazine photo and for my needs it's just fine. If I want really high quality photos I'll go to a photo shop. The graphics are excellent.

No more ink cartridges drying out and/or clogged printheads. I've gone laser and never will go back. A laser may cost more but I know it will function when I need to print something. That can't be said of inkjets.

I'd recommend the Brother MFC-9440CN to anybody. It's fast and dependable. What more could one want?』

『This is a great product and I am very pleased with it so far. As other reviewers have already mentioned, it is rather on the large side. BUT-it is performing wonderfully! I am still trying to figure out how to get my pencil markings darker on the page. For some reason, it still wants to keep those light, but darken the original text. I am sure this is more an issue with the user, though. Overall, I feel very pleased that I bought this product. Now, we'll see if it holds up over time. That's always been my problem with MFC products.』

『I have a Lite-On LightScribe DVD burner, and have tried various brands of LightScribe blanks, and have found Verbatim LightScribe discs to be the very best - perfect everytime - no faulty discs in the entire bunch. However, I can not say that about any other LightScribe disc manufacturers; Philips discs being the worst of all - most of the Philips discs failing to operate properly in the DVD burner.』

『have this machine since 2 years and it worked fine in the beginning. The noise is quite loud but I can live with that.

Whats really disappointing is the support of the Samsung Company. I used Mac OS X 10.4 and everything was fine. Upgraded to Leopard 10.5 and I had to wait 3 months (!) for them to update their drivers.

It still can get worse: Since 10.5.3 (same goes for 10.5.4 AND 10.5.5) I can't print anymore. Although the companys homepage still claims 10.5 is enterly supported (which is NOT TRUE, only 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 are supported). I called them and they were pretty uninformed about all this. They didn't know about any issues with Mac OS and they didn't know anything about driver-compatibility. I still don't have a responce to a mail, sent 1 month ago, asking if the latest driver update (09/11/2008) includes any of the needed changes (fact is: it still

『Four months ago, we bought the Sony KDL52WL140 from Sams club. Three weeks ago we replaced it with the Samsung LN52A850. What a difference! (but, give Sams club a "thumbs up" because they took the Sony back for a full refund - no problems at all)

The Samsung has more dynamic color than the Sony and the color stays true from wider viewing angles. I know some people complain about the internal speakers on the Samsung but I cannot speak to that issue as we never use the TV speakers anyway. The Samsung is much cooler (as in creates less heat) than the Sony. The Sony was way too hot (even when the brightness and backlighting were set to low levels.)

The Samsung is thinner than the Sony and also has a USB port for playing videos and such from thumb drives, etc.

We could not be happier with the Samsung. Also, the deliver process was fast, smooth, and FREE! Gotta give this puppy 5 stars!』

(Clouding issue on the 52" 850)
『The TV was fine for a couple of days but then yesterday night, I started noticing patches of light on various parts of the display that looked like 'clouds'. It was very noticeable in low-light situations which unfortunately I am in most of the time when watching tv. In the day-time, this issue is less noticeable. I've since contacted both Amazon and Samsung to try to resolve this problem and Samsung is going to send a tech out to take a look at the set to see if they can fix the issue first. It seems like this issue is more of a problem on the 650/750 series from what I researched and this is the reason why I opted to spend more money for the 850 but it's disappointing to have to go through the hassle of either getting this fixed or trying to return the tv, all within a narrow time period. Check CNET-Samsung forums for other users that have the clouding issue.』

『This set is amazing. I had a 61" rear projection that had a good picture, but It wasn't anywhere near as good as this. The picture quality is incredible. When scenes involve people in a room for instance it's like looking in on them through a window every detail is bright, vivid, and crisp. And that is with stand definition. I record some old black&White shows and they have never looked so good. High definition is nothing short of spectacular. This set can be set to deliver a 60 hrtz or 120 hrtz refresh. The 60 is very good, but the 120 takes it to the next level. The higher refresh rate gives near Blue Ray quality to scenes where there is distant details in the background. These details become visible with the higher refresh rate. I'm seeing absolutely no artifacts in the picture at all.
The viewing angles are where I see a big difference from what I'm used to. The picture quality shows little or no change no matter how far to the side you get. I've laid on the floor directly below the set and the picture is great, and even when I stand right next to it and look down on it the picture is still great.
There are plenty of inputs, including 4 hdmi ports. All these different input ports are accessible using the remote. The remote has all the usual features, but it also includes a click wheel that I have found to work well. Clicking the center of the click wheel brings up a menu of the many features on this TV.I won;t bother listing them here, there's a great list on the site. Once the list comes up you can scroll and click through the many features to use them or turn them off.
The screen is only 2 inches thick, and the whole set doesn't weigh very much at all. You do see some glare on the screen mostly during the day. The screen can be pivoted thought an that helps a lot. The base is very stable. I have the set sitting on a sturdy but narrow table and because most of the weight of the set is in the base the TV sits nicely and isn't tippy at all.
I checked this set out at show room with many LCD's and plasma's on display and this set had what I say is the best picture by far. Even in a large room with a lot of light.
I recommend this TV without the slightest hesitation.』
