『i was initially taken with this printer because early reviews raved about it's features.. I purchased one, used it for 16 months (the warranty is 12) and then received an error message on the screen (the printer was inoperable). I called Lexmark and they accused me of adding options, which I have not. Finally, they referred me to a service technician, who was familiar with the printer and the problem. To fix the printer - the whole system board would have to be replaced, apparently they fail often. Cost for the system board $699 plus at least $200 for labor (i.e., you could simply buy a new printer for less). What a rip-off. I've previously used HP printers, and my other printer is an HP Color 3700 - which is going on it's 4th full year of use with little or no problems, unfortunately, it didn't have a duplex option when I purchased it (or I wasn't willing to pay that much extra)... I'm now moving to an HP3505x. I will never puchase another lexmark product.』

『This is the first time I have purchased a "BROTHER" product. I needed a printer/scanner for my VISTA system. VISTA realy limited me from my choices due to not many on the market yet so I was extremely hesitant about purchasing this item. I usualy buy Sony or Panasonic.
It arrived sooner than I had expected. Instructions were easy to follow. It is wireless and I set it up for this but it did not respond. I called customer service and the gentleman was EXTREMELY kind and patient. He walked me through step-by-step and would not exit our conversation until he heard the machine working properly.
My family and I have put it to use DAILY! I LOVE my scanned photos. It prints GREAT. COLOR is GREAT. FAXES great. I love the "black" print button-no need to set it on properties! The phone works GREAT. The price was GREAT! I am so happy I chose BROTHER for my VISTA system. I am completely satisfied.』

『I've been using this printer for about 6 months now and love it. I share office space and use the MFC-885CW as my personal machine, only sending bigger jobs to my secretary. It's been under a heavy load from day one. Here's what I like:

1. Print quality is excellent for text and photos. Whether I'm printing a motion or photo exhibits, my results look great.

2. The option to pick up the cordless phone and roam around the office means I can grab files without putting people on hold. It has good range, too, covering our whole building.

3. It is very easy to use. I'm not a big reader of manuals. I just started using it and i've never had a problem figuring it out. It also has tons of features.

4. Wireless. I hate cables. This machine sits discreetly off to one side (and looks ok, even in my country-lawyer style office) without any ugly cables running to my laptop. I walk in the door, sit down, open my laptop, and can print and fax immediately. Also, my secretary likes the fact that she can print docs to me without having to leave the front desk and phones.

What I don't like:
1. The fax is slow. It's about half the speed of most faxes. Large documents still go to our shared fax, but for anything under ten pages, it isn't an inconvenience.

2. The paper tray could be bigger. I run out about once a week (I also print a lot). Always in the middle of something I need right away, but it is easy to reload.

3. The document feeder only handles 10 pages at a time. No big deal to me, as we have a commercial copier, but it would be really irritating if this was my only copier.

So, this is a great printer if you need a lot of features for a little money and don't handle many large documents. For most people it would be fine, and even with an active law practice, I'm only rarely inconvenienced. Compared to the hassle of using multiple machines, this is a lot better. It's perfect for home offices or lower volume offices, like a start up. One thing - I've seen this machine on sale, twice, for around a hundred dollars less, so you might shop around. Still worth the full price, though, especially if you want a machine that can be a fax and phone on only one line, provide versatility in printing, and copy easily.』

『I knew the household power flucuates but not to extend that I have seen since purchasing HTS 5100 MKII. The picture quality has greatly improved on all TVs connected. The picture is so good I'm holding on my current TV instead of buying a new flatscreen. From the audio standpoint, there are no pops or hiss no matter what the volume. Between songs you are wondering did the system turnoff because its so quiet. I high recommend this unit. Amazon also provide the best price on this item.』

『First, let me state, I did not BUY this, it was GIVEN to me along with a TV monitor and some satellite uplink gear, so the person who owned it before me may have had a more pressing need. All of my TV gear is backed up behind a 3KW APC UPS with an external 48VDC battery array.

Having said that, the 5100 does do some nice things. OUTLETS. Lots of them. Error lights for over/under voltage. Current display in big LED digits. I do like the unit having used it for a while now, but I do not turn off my TV, so I forgoe most of the features.

I do like the ampmeter that tells you how much currrent you are presently pulling. Regretably they do not have a wattmeter as well. Families with children might like to have a dollar meter as a feature too.

All in all it is very well built and yes, I did take it apart before using it. Is it worth the ~400 price tag? I don't think so personally - but to some people who have invested thousands into their home theater, it's cheap and a good tool. If you have a TV/DVD/Satellite setup it's certainly not the centerpiece of your system.

Would I *BUY* it? No. Do I like it? Yes. Perhaps if I move it into my home theater room I might like it more then. For now, it's a power strip on steroids with a few handy features ironically used for my computer equipment more than the A/V gear.

I hope that helps. One last comment - every outlet is noise protected and isolated from the others, which in an analog world is an important feature. In today's digital reception, it is not a real useful tool.』

『I purchased the Lexmark C500 in the hopes that it would print a variety of things -- typical word documents, spreadsheets, and invitations to my wedding (cardstock, envelopes, and address labels). The printer has failed in EVERY single application. It eats and melts envelopes, prints curled paper (the fuser unit gets extremely hot), and ink is splotchy and streaky in every font. Even simple PDF files come out with imperfections in the text, and the paper is wrinkly. The printer is loud and gives off a lot of heat. We are going to have to buy another printer, and I will NEVER buy a Lexmark again. I have since learned of others who have had problems with other Lexmark printers as well, which makes me think this is not a fluke. Even though this printer is rated "very good" at CNET, it's a piece of junk. Don't waste your money, and go buy a printer that works.』

BTW the support Lexmark claims for OSX and Linux is a straight up lie. They support OSX 10.2, will not work with 10.3-10.5+ and no Linux support at all.』

『I bought this printer when it was on sale and included a rebate. We were using a Brother MFC8300 for years prior to this while waiting for the day when color laser printers became affordable for the small home office.
That day came and we have been VERY pleased with the quality and reliability of this printer.
We have a Qwest Actiontec DSL modem hooked up to our Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11g WAN port.
I plugged the printer into the base station's ethernet LAN port.
We downloaded the latest drivers from Lexmark to our 3 Macs, Powermac G4 10.4, MacBook Core2Duo 10.4 and iBook G3 10.3 and used the Printer Setup Utility to ready the printer.
All computers saw the device and setup was flawless. They have all printed to it without any issues.
We are very please with our purchase.』

(Never will work with Vista)
『Lexmark still makes this printer, but does not seem to be motivated to make a driver for it that is compatible with Vista. Pretty stupid, if you ask me. If you have Vista, then DO NOT buy this printer. It is essentially a dead paper weight without Windows XP or a PPC Mac.

What makes it even worse is that NO DRIVERS will get it to print in Vista. Don't bother trying to find a "close enough" or "compatible" Lexmark driver for it, none exists. It turns out this is an "unintelligent" printer, which means all of the page processing is done on the computer's side, in the driver, and then the resulting image of the page is dumped to the printer, which is why this printer is so cheap.

As a network printer it's pretty limited due to its limited compatibility. If you have a home-office and Windows XP, then it's a good value. It isn't worth it otherwise.』

『I've only had this printer 6 days and am considering putting it out with the garbage. I tried printing on the recommended photo paper and it puts black lines down the back of the paper. It also does not accept card stock very well. Lexmark support (misnomer) first said that it was a defective black cartridge then later said that the printer does not accept the type of paper I was using. Either way I'm dumping this sucker and going back to the HP. I'd advise anyone who wants to use other than just regular bond paper to not waster their money on this printer. Unfortunately I bought it at CompUSA brand new but can not return it because they're going out of business. An expensive lesson but I did learn. Bottom line, this printer is a hunk of junk!!!』

『It is the worst product I ever used. I bought it in Dec 2006. I used it for just several times during the following half an year. Both its software and hardware suck! Its map and directions have too many errors. Not clear voice reminder to turn. Display is very confusing. And it dies from time to time. I have to reset it for many times when I was driving on the highway. In May 2007, I found its all maps disappear automatically. I have to send it back to reinstall. I got it back after a long time. Then I used it again in Nov 2007. I found that it does not have all the maps. It has the map around my home, but no map around my destination. Anyway, I used it for half of the trip, but when I was on the highway, its screen became black, no display, no any voices. I cannot turn it on/off. I cannot reset it again. It is totally dead!!!!!!!!!! I guess I used it for less than one year, totally less than 30 hours, but now it is totally dead! I even hate to waste time on sending it back to fix it! I decide to buy a garmin gps instead. Never buy any product from this company.』
