BROTHER
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Nice but stopped working still under one year warranty so hope) 『I bought this Brother HL-4070cdw Color Laser Printer with Built-In Duplex Printing and Wireless Interface in April 2008 for $125 less than it is now at amazon.com. Lately some problems with wireless I did not investigate, so used as wired network printer. I am glad its problem began today, while still within the one-year warranty period. I have an HL-5280DW that quit one week after the one-year warranty; may cost $200 to fix that printer. I usually turn the switch off at night. This morning I turned the switch on, the LCD control panel did not light up, and only the upper right rear fan was blowing. The fan stopped blowing after 5 minutes. I did a 5-minute power-off step recommended by Brother-USA. I contacted Brother, and a reply email said wait 15 minutes: did not work -- the fan runs, so power is somewhere in the printer. Will update this when it is fixed....』
(Great solution for multi-computer home office) 『I went with this unit after my Samsung CLP-510 died, and I couldn't be happier. The Brother gives me all the features I need and good fit&finish for an excellent price. After growing accustomed to the Samsung's built-in duplexing, I decided that its replacement must have that feature as well. When compared to the Samsung, the color is a bit muted, but performance otherwise is equal and reliability is much improved. Wireless setup was relatively easy once I figured out what format my router was. Currently we are printing seamlessly on a ethernet-wired PC, a wireless iMac, and a wireless MacBook. I have had few significant encounters with the curled page issue that others have complained about.』
(Love this wireless color laser printer.) 『After considering various options and reviews I decided the 4070cdw was the printer I needed for my home office. I write and design flyers, brochures, bulletins, class outlines and outlines for public speaking. The printer needed to have color and still be good at printing text. It also needed to have duplexing capabilities for printing class materials, It had to be a laser printer for cost and speed considerations. The wireless interface was just an added bonus; but I have come to depend on it. This printer met each of these needs and in use has proved to be better than needed. In this price range this is a five star printer.
My computer of choice is an iMac. And I had no problems setting it up although I do think the documentation could be better on the Mac OS side. But setting things up on a Mac has always been easier than a generic PC. Connecting over wireless to the printer was a breeze. This is a very good small office color laser printer.』
(With Brothers like this, who needs enemies? Be happy-buy Xerox.) 『If you are looking for a printer with the temperament and demands of an A-List Hollywood monster, look no further. Since nothing is all bad, I'll pay this machine the compliment that it never really jammed. That's the only nice thing I can muster about this $500 piece of trash, made worse by the most condescending customer service personnel ever to wear a headset.
I'll start at the end, because that's probably most helpful: I ended up tossing this thing after a malfunction (for which I'm also to blame), and it was the best thing that happened to me. I needed the printer repaired, and the place Brother referred me to was honest and very helpful....know what they told me? "Don't bother having that thing fixed. Brother printers are notoriously expensive to repair and for the money you'll spend, you can buy a new printer that won't give you half the trouble. Buy a Xerox printer." THE PEOPLE WHO BROTHER REFERS told me this. And thank god.
A hard lesson learned, but everything happens for a reason-tossing the Brother in the trash will actually save me money. Yes, my $500, 9 month old printer heading to the garbage was a blessing in disguise.
I bought a Xerox as the repair people recommended, and I found out what laser prints SHOULD look like. I haven't had the first issue, and the print quality is 500% better (I will no longer have to have my fliers professionally printed, because the print quality is that much improved.)
Even before it burned up, Brother was a mediocre product with maybe the worst customer service I've ever encountered. EVER. Since this was my first laser printer, I assumed that the struggles I had were just part of a higher end machine. From spilling toner to poor print, getting this thing to work properly was a major undertaking. I understand that all machines have a kind of paper they'll do better with, but are you kidding me? If a lighter weight paper was being used, the thing started dumping toner. So after performing repairman-like duties, and realizing how touchy this thing was, it was....ok...it was like the Courtney Love of printers. The print quality was uneven. Most adobe documents' quality would be considered unfortunate at best. When I had problems and tried to get help from customer service, their assistance was straight out of the manual, complete with some belittling and scolding, and then onto a repair shop.
I will never, EVER buy another Brother product again, and I strongly suggest, even after reading all these reviews, that you call or go see someone who fixes these things...who knows better what machines are worthless? It's where I'll get my advice from now on!』
(Printer) 『For the price, the Brother HL 4070 is a great printer. I use it at home for personal and school work. Noise level is acceptable for a laser printer. It does curl the pages a bit, but that is not a problem for me. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend over 500.00 on a laser printer. Great speed and color.』 『The HL-4070CDW is the fast, affordable color laser printer that everyone has been waiting for. Offering the same print speed and print quality as the HL-4040CN, the HL-4070CDW also features built-in duplexing for two-sided printing, a wireless network interface for connecting to your wired or wireless workgroup, and BR-Script3 for PostScript compatibility.』 『The Brother HL-4070CDW Color Laser Printer with Wireless Interface and Duplexing produces great prints quickly in both color and monochrome at an affordable price. The printer has a speedy 300 MHz processor and 64 MB memory, and churns out prints at a speedy 21 pages per minute in both color and monochrome, so your office won't be backed up with print jobs and the workflow will move steadily. The laser printing technology offers a resolution of up to 2400 x 600 dpi for outstanding quality. With its built-in duplexer, the printer can do two-sided printing, saving paper. The printer is network ready, with built-in 802.11b/g wireless and Ethernet network interfaces, so setting up the printer for the whole office to share is a breeze.
The HL-4070CDW can handle a variety of paper sizes including letterhead, letter, and legal, as well as envelopes. The standard paper tray holds 250 sheets and an optional tray holds 500 sheets. The printer is compatible with both Macs and PCs and emulates PCL6 and BR-Script3 printing languages. A USB slot on the printer lets you print PDF and JPEG files directly, without the need of a computer. If you have a PictBridge enabled digital camera, pictures can be printed directly from the camera without first downloading to a computer. The Brother HL-4070CDW Color Laser Printer is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Better than th rest) 『I've had all-in-ones before from HP, Epson, and Canon, but this one tops them all. For a laser printer this printer is relatively quiet. Connecting this printer to the router was a snap and now we can print and scan from any computer. The duplex is great and really helps cut down on paper costs. I bought this printer when it first came out for $1000 and it's been well worth it, but now you can get it for under $650, now that's a great deal. I've had the printer for over a year without any problems, I would highly recommend getting this printer if you want a printer that can do it all.』
(It's good but... I wish I had known) 『Okay... 21 PPM for color and b/w sounds great but it would have been nice to know...
Caller ID doesn't work on a phone plugged into this fax machine. So if you like your Caller ID then you are plugging into another jack to know when Aunt Sally is calling and that you will be stuck on the phone for an hour if you answer it. Or you could get a Brother machine that has a handset.
There are a limited number of signal ring patterns that work with this machine. And changing the ring pattern isn't so hard for the telephone company once you spend 30 minutes on hold and get forwarded 5 places before you find the person that can do it.
If you don't have a couple of days to get this machine integrated into your home or office there are easier options out there.
Happy hunting.』
(brother multi) 『I bought this item and had brother come and fix it. After 6 months of use it broke down more than it worked. amazon.com was great. they picked up the printer and refunded the money. I would always shop with amazon.com brother does not do a good job with customer service 』
(9840) 『I bought this machine at work for my job. Now that I have used it at work and print about 50 pages per day and liked it so well, I bought one for me. To use at home. I just got tired of printers that clog up and will not print if you don't use them for a month or so, Or the date on the ink runs out and you have to buy a new ink even if the ink is still full. Yes the company paid for the company printer. I paid for mine, and love it. 』
(Brother MFC-9840cdw review) 『So far, I am impressed with the Brother MFC-9840cdw; however, when copying some documents, the color copies were a different shade or hue than the originals. Also, when I asked a salesman here that sold the same Brother MFC about how often we'd have to replace the drum, he advised me that the drums were good for at least 30,000 pages. When I received the machine, I saw in the manual that replacing the drum is required every 17,000 pages. There are other parts that need replacing on frequent intervals, which makes maintenance on the Brother fairly expensive. On the plus side, the wireless network function works great, and for the most part, the color copies are pretty decent. The speed is sufficient for my needs. I haven't had time to fiddle much with the software, so I can't comment on that. The envelopes do tend to curl a bit, even after making the adjustment recommended by support. Overall, I'm pleased with it, but if I had to do it over again, I would look for a multi-function machine that didn't require the expensive maintenance.』 『The MFC-9840CDW is the ultimate color laser Multi-Function Center that offers superior quality color laser printing, faxing, copying and scanning with built-in network connectivity. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Scanned thousands of photos pretty easily!) 『I bought this scanner to scan all of my pre-digital photos. First it is REALLY easy to use. The quality is great. I did have some trouble with what looked like pixels on the scans but that was just in the scanner software. The scans in every other application were perfect. While it isn't the fastest scanner around. I could do at least 50 4X6 prints in 30 minutes at 600dpi. I also scanned some books, negatives, and slides. The books were fine, the negatives pretty good, but of course every little flaw is visible but the film never looked that good. BE SURE TO RECALIBRATE BEFORE SCANNING SLIDES OR NEGATIVES. Overall, well worth the money!』
(Works Great! Easy to Use.) 『I've only had this scanner for a couple of weeks, but I have already used to scan dozens of photos, multi-color printed materials, and documents. I have saved to various image formats and PDF. No problems at all. The software is easy to install and relatively intuitive to use.』
(So far, so great!) 『We purchased the 4400F a few weeks ago based on other positive reviews and an amazing price. My wife's enormous task of digitizing thousands of pictures (not negatives or slides) is very important to us. We were up and running in just a few minutes. Others have said the software wasn't the greatest, but we are very happy with just how much this scanner can improve the quality of the original. My wife is a computer novice, but had no problem finding great features such as multi-crop (to do several photos in one scan, resulting in seperate photo files). We haven't even checked out many of the included programs, so I'm sure it can do much more than what we really need it to do. We are very happy with the speed (several times quicker than our multi-function HP) and the quality at any price is amazing. Buy without hesitation. Also, thanks Amazon for the FREE&quick shipping!』

Samsung
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Great tv while it was working. Then I had to deal with Samsung!) 『I ordered this tv from amazon in 06/08. It was delivered on time. The picture was the best I've seen. Then this month 11/08 it turned itself off during a program and would not turn back on. I called Samsung and was told there was only 1 authorized repair ctr for the state of CT. That person would have to come from over 100 miles away. They told me the next available appt would be in 8 days. Then the day of the appt. they said the part was backordered. I would have to wait another 11 days for them to come back. I called Samsung back and told them this was not acceptable to me to wait this long for a repair. I then requested a replacement tv. That's when they started giving me the run around. Passing me on to the next person. Keeping me on hold for 15 minutes at a time. Then finally telling me they have 21 business days to fix my tv. I'm still waiting for it to be repaired. Any way it's a great picture if they can repair it. But you should consider buying a Sony. Maybe they care a little more about their customers. Samsung sure doesn't』
(TOO Shinny a Screen) 『I'm sorry a bought the TV now. The screen is definitely too glossy and reflects objects and light, especially when off, but also when it is on. I wish I had bought the 630 now with the matte screen or the Sony 52w4100. Look at the user supplied picture of his TV setup and all you see is reflections. If you want the glossy look, go with plasma, otherwise pick a matte screen 120hz model.』
(Just Awesome, can't think of a more creative word) 『Awesome TV --that about sums it up. Now I will go through the details. First, have the software upgrade available. I have received two of these TV's and the first one didn't require, the second one does. Simply download the driver from the Samsung support site and place it on a USB drive. If you select sw update from the setup menu, it will tell you if the version is the same, so it won't do it unless needed.
I have a basement with a window and a light right on top of the TV set. This is the first big advantage of this TV --namely the construction material of the screen. The low reflective layer simply ignores the external light source and it is almost as of it absorbs the light. The result is that the image from the TV is unaffected by the external light. It is as vivid regardless whether it's dark or daylight shining on the TV --truly amazing.
Another amazing fact of this material is it allows viewing from a very obtuse angle without losing clarity. Remember those airplane mounted LCD monitors which turns black when viewed from an angle? No such thing with this TV.
The picture simply looks fake. This is not a negative comment. Remember those magazine advertisements which always claim "simulated TV picture"? They basically cut and paste a picture to the TV screen. guess what, this TV looks fake. It looks like someone took a large poster of clear photo, and put it on the screen. Simply flawless.
I have played with the settings and found that the default "standard" setting is the best for my taste. You can make the screen a lot brighter if you want. I strongly suggest to not set the brightness too high. I have read reviews complaining about lcd cluding --where on very dark solid scenes, an uneven brightness is visible on the screen. Clouding is common due to the way LCD matrix works. One way to combat this effect is to avoid watching your television in completely dark rooms. Turn on a lamp with a low light setting to keep a small amount of ambient light in the room. Some LCD manufacters offer ambient light built in to their television (such as Philips Ambilight) but this option is not available on this TV. So if you review 100 different TV's (even though they are all the same model), it is not uncommon to find one or two sets which has worse lcd clouding issues than the other. Mine is just perfect.
The response time and 120hz made a big difference. A tv with 60 hz refreshes the screen 60 times a second. On an LCD screen, a high action picture can produce a blur simply because the refresh cannot cath up to the changes of the picture composition. Those days are over. 120 times per second the image is updated so it doesn't matter what movement or action you got on the screen --it remains picture perfect sharp.
I was rather worried about the "red" bezel but this was unnecessary. The color tone is very subtle.
Watching TV is a pleasure. I appreciate the channel list which actually reads the broadcaster info (station ID and the current program). The majority of the screens are smaller than what the screen can accomodate. Most cable deliveries (unless you have FIOS) do not deliver the full 1080p but a quick blu ray disk play will eliminate doubt that this is the most amazing HDTV.
The WiseLink option is extremely poorly programmed. I sticked in a USB drive with directories containing files mixed with pictures, music, etc. The system is over protective to the user and attempted to make life easy by tabulating *ALL* the pictures and music for you. I prefer to be able to browse my thumb drive directories. It is extremely annoying trying to get to a particular picture you wanted to see and having to go through literally thousands of JPG files. Remember, if you have files such as offline internet browsing files, every single button and pictures are saved as a JPG. This is a major flaw in the software rather than the TV. Hopefully the programming team can revise the software and allow direct browsing. Again, I have to clarify that this shortcoming is a software issue rather than TV performance.
When the TruSurround XT SRS sound option is enabled, the sound coming from the standard speakers is very commendable. The sound surround reproduction is rich as has dimension. This is probably moot for most users who will connect an AV receiver. Just make sure you have an optical cable to connect the TV to your AV receivers so you can get the best sound from the TV to your receiver as well.
One sound option that is really nice is the sound leveler which can be set to "ON" in the setup (the default is off so look for it under sound). With this option on, when you channel browse, you no longer get surprises on those channels which are much louder than its neighbors (or much lower). Adjusting the volume from channel to channel is a thing of the past. A very nice welcomed addition.
For those who struggle with component video cables please don't. You are shortchanging yourself. Please connect this TV using an HDMI cable. And don't go cheap on the HDMI cable. Make sure you get one with enough bandwidth to handle 1080p. It may cost more but it's worth it.
The 50,000 to 1 contrast ratio is not just hype. I have a Sharp Aquos in the house as well and I have great respect for that TV as well but it can't compete with the dynamic contrast ratio which makes a big difference in picture clarity. I don't think I have seen a unit which can produce a sharper picture than this TV.』
(If you like a cloudy, picture with flashlighting and blotchy screen...then its PERFECT!) 『I'm going to try and post a pic to explain this. For now, if you follow this link you can see how HORRIBLE this tv is that Amazon sent me: http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/rr286/DerekNJND/?action=view¤t=samsung-1.jpg
But lemme just say, VERY disappointed in this TV set after reading everywhere how great it would be. It is great, but I got a set with THE WORST CLOUDING AND FLASHLIGHTING I have ever seen on an LCD set. Big blotchy cloud in the middle of the screen slightly left of center screen. Huge flashlight in the bottom right corner. GRRRRRRRRR.
After reading up on AVSforums.com, and seeing a poll there, MORE THAN 50% OF 52" A650 OWNERS HAVE CLOUDING and/or FLASHLIGHTING. BUYER BEWARE!! If you buy this set, there's a better than 50% chance you'll have clouding. for those who don't know what this means, just go to google images and type in "lcd clouding." If you already have the set or just got it, pull out all the inputs, and have the screen completely black. jack up the backlight to 10, put the brightness all the way up, and』

Comparison of Features for various Samsung LCD HDTV models
Samsung’s Series 6 marks the first appearance of TOC (Touch of Color) design in the 2008 LCD HDTV line-up. Inspired by designs from the automotive and fashion industries, Samsung’s unique unique Transparent and Opaque Color molding process creates a clean, smooth finish infused with a hint of a translucent color during the manufacturing process for an ultra-sleek appearance.
Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV’s Ethernet port and new InfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content.
This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the‘middle’ image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.
Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture. Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes.
The latest version of Samsung’s breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing.
50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio will give you a picture better than you ever thought possible, with whiter whites, blacker blacks and a nearly infinite subtlety of gradations in between. As two of the most important determining factors in overall picture quality, contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this latest generation LCD panel. Samsung’s new LCD TV’s give the most stunning realistic picture quality ever.
Full HD, or 1080p, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. The new Samsung LCD TV with resolution that is approximately 2 times greater than conventional HDTVs, creating the most perfect picture imaginable.
Samsung’s 1080p panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder.
DNIe™ The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine. This exclusive Samsung technology dramatically improves the picture by enhancing the contrast, detail, white balance and reduces.
The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors.
Samsung’s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors – the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky.
To make the Series 6 a true entertainment hub for any home, Samsung has incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV’s functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side), and the handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote.
Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops. HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV.
Once connected, users can easily access device menus and manage and display content through the newly redesigned Wheel Key Remote control and the HDTV’s sophisticated content management interface.
You already know something about digital living. There’s the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you’ve copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven’t had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another?
Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world’s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together — no matter the brand.
Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience".
Or, say you recently downloaded your daughter’s birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV’s remote to call up the video on your TV. That’s it.
TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.
SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.
TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5
