『Bought this printer over other cheaper laser printers because of it's compact size and cheaper cartridges. Oops.

The footprint on this is actually 3.5" longer than what it advertises, because the paper tray is not flush with the printer when filled with paper. That was the first strike.

The print quality on color -- the whole reason I bought, you know, a color printer -- is dismal. Just sad. Jagged edges, colors appearing randomly along otherwise pristine lines you name it. In my model, right out of the box, the upper right part of the page was faded. Strikes two through five thousand, in my book.

Like another review mentioned, this printer made our lights flicker even when not printing. My husband had a headache from the improptu rave lighting after a short time, which by that time we had already decided to box the thing up and take it back.

I played around with the print and color and quality and page settings, and found an option called "fine lines" or something of that sort... that actually made everything MORE BLURRY. Sorry, what?

Installation was easy, sure, but so is slicing your hand open when chopping onions; just because it's easy doesn't mean it's beneficial.

I took a gamble on this printer, which is very unlike me, and I now remember why I don't make gambles on purchases relevant to my (small) business.

Don't waste your time or money. I'm going to purchase instead the Brother HL Series HL-4040CN, which while more expensive and quite a bit larger, will actually give me high quality color laser prints from the samples I've seen.』

(Great printer at a great price)

『I bought this printer based on research I did after my last inkjet got clogged nozzles beyond my ability to clear. Some of the reviews I read gave me a feeling of uneasy but my experience with the printer proved them wrong.

Firstly, I love the compact design of the printer and the fact that it uses smaller toner cartridges than most lasers. An inkjet printer, unlike a laser, must be used to print with every now and then to keep the nozzles on the print head free of clogs. I don't have to worry about that with a laser. Also the price of replacement toner cartridges isn't astronomical.

Next, the quality of the text printed is quite acceptable to me. Yes, if you look at it under a 10x magnifier the edges are little fuzzy but I don't print things that need to looked at under a magnifier. To the normal eye the printed text looks crisp and clean.

On the subject of color images, well, this is not an inkjet printing on premium paper nor a dye sublimation printer which about $1.50 per printed page. Yes, printed images from this printer will not be a good as from an inkjet using high quality photo paper, but they are also not as bad as images from that same inkjet printed on regular paper. I printed a few images from some Corel Photo CDs and from a couple of feet away they look fine (though you will have to adjust the color settings to your taste). If I need better quality, I can always send the image to one of the on-line photo processing sites and have it printed there.

The CLP-315 does use a lot of power and its power saving mode could do a better job, but I simply leave the printer off until I need to print something and then turn it off again when I'm done.

All in all I am very pleased with this printer.』

『I recently purchased the CLP-315 and am very pleased with the unit as a low cost, small home printer. Its much faster and less hassle than ink jet printers I've owned. CD includes drivers for Mac OS X and Windows.

There are better printers available but not at the price this is available.』

(Burning Smell, Had to Return)

『Whenever we printed anything on the Samsung CLP-315, the room was filled with a burning smell. We thought this might be an initial start-up issue, but after 10 days we gave up and returned the unit. I've had other laser printers, and none of them ran as hot, or created a burning smell, like this unit. Too bad, as I liked the small footprint and the low price. We ended up with an HP 6940, which is not a laser but gives better color images, and doesn't smell.』

(Don't waste your money)

『After printing roughly 250 pages in black&white mode, the rollers inside the printer started making a very audible squeaking noise throughout the print cycle. To add to my dissatisfaction, I discovered that the black printer cartridge was half used (per the installed Samsung software). I was printing what I would consider "normal" documents from Microsoft Word. The few color pages I printed were extremely fuzzy and not crisp. This could have been a result of the paper I use, but the Dell inkjet I received for free with my computer makes a crisper, more attractive color print on the same paper.

Don't waste your money on this printer. I thought I would try to save money. Big mistake when the product is of such poor quality. Fortunately, Staples refunded my money. Interestingly, the guy at the register said they get lots of returns on this printer. I learned from my mistake and replaced it with an HP Laserjet.』

『I'm sorry to say that I couldn't get this printer to cooperate with my computer. I spent most of a day to get the software to install and for me to be able to use it. I am not a computer expert but I've never had such problems before. I never did get it to work. I'm willing to say that it was my fault totally. I returned it and must say, I was very happy with the return policy of J&R. They took it back and refunded me everything - including the initial postage. Way cool! I'd order from them again - just not this printer.』
