(If she was a man, there would be no book!!!!)
『I still believe that Leona Helmsley regardless of her notorious history of cruelty amongst her own employees and relatives was not the monster that the press sought her out to be. I keep thinking of comparing her to another wealthy, prominent female billionaire, Martha Stewart. The two women have a lot more in commmon. This book does provide a detailed back history of Leona's poverty life in Brooklyn to the rise of her wealth. It wasn't as if she married Harry Helmsley without dating him for a year and a half in an adulterous relationship. After all, she is human despite some people's notions. The book also writes about the close personal relationships with her. In the field of New York real estate business, you have no choice but to be ruthless, conviving, fearless, and brutal to get ahead. She was a woman in a man's world and an immediate outsider in that world. Her two prior marriages showed that Leona came first even with her son. Of course, there are some unforgiveable acts of cruelty towards her relatives, friends, business partners, and employees. Leona developed one of the best New York City hotels. The Helmsley Palace was that a palace and the Queen Leona ruled with an iron fist. She may have gone overboard at times with the cards and her photographs that surrounded. She was one of the most beautiful woman in the business industry. Beauty and brains never did go hand to hand with being a woman. Leona Helmsley succeeded without a college education that would impress even those with their fancy ivy league degrees like Donald Trump. Much like Martha Stewart, Leona Helmsley craved perfection as a necessity whether it was a product or a hotel service. The Helmsley Palace of Leona's days are long gone. Hotel services as customer service in our society is really under-appreciated in most places. Leona wanted first class and first rate services and quality for her customers. At the end of her life, the Helmsley estate left a billion dollar trust foundation for charitable purposes. I think I can forgive her cruelty when she has donated her mast fortune for others who she will never meet or get credit for all the good that she has done regardless of her intentions. Leona had never planned to keep her mast fortune as they might have said. She wasn't stupid to get ripped off by overpricing. I bet she would have made a great president, governor, mayor of New York City, etc. if she wanted too. She had the smarts to keep spending down and productivity at an all time high. Who cares if she ruled with an iron fist, terrified her employees like a military commander looking for errors, flaws, and dirt; regardless of how you feel about or felt about Leona Helmsley, her rise to the top of the business world was not met without the same fearlessness, determination, and ambition that she craved to be. For a while she was at the top, we watched how she went to prison where she was a model prisoner by all accounts. One can only imagine that if she paid the financial price of a meager 2 million dollars which is truly pocket money for her for the tax evasion. We could have avoided the mess in the courtrooms in New York City prosecuted by ambitious Rudy Giuliani. I think there are plenty of other crimes that go unpunished. There are millions of people who have not only lost their jobs at companies like Enron or Worldcom but have lost their pensions and savings as well. Leona Helmsley was never a Ken Lay or anybody else like her. She never fired people except for the sake of her obsessive compulsiveness and imperfection. if she was a man, she would have been called a genius. But that's always the way with successful women like Leona and Martha, Leona and Harry are finally together in peace at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Westchester and not at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.』

(No Stone Left Unturned Here!)
『Piers Ransdell gives us here a very thorough, and thoroughly entertaining, look at Harry and Leona Helmsley. During her heyday, Leona never came across particularly well, and the ill will she generated in abundance eventually resulted in her landing in prison. Well, Ransdell gives us a portrait of a petty, vindictive, ill-willed woman who craved money and power and would do anything to get it. What's even better is it's so well researched: people interviewed include members of Leona's family, former co-workers, former employees of the Helmsley organization, Harry Helmsley's first wife, and Leona's two previous husbands. The portrait they paint is uniformly negative, almost to the point of being shocking. I was truly surprised at what a spineless man Harry was, and how cheap a billionaire(!) couple could actually be. The book is littered with episodes where the Helmsleys hire people to do work, the work gets done, and then they refuse to pay - for any reason, and frequently for no reason at all.

Definitely an entertaining read. The Helmsleys and their lifestyle is interesting, and the author's style is engaging.

(GREEDY, GREEDY, GREEDY!!!)
『This is a very detailed book that discusses the rise and subsequent fall of 80's real estate barracuda, Leona "Queen of Mean" Helmsley. Piers Randsdell was the first journalist who coined the infamous title "Queen of Mean" for The Post.

This book discusses the two most fascinating aspects of Leona's life:
1) She helped manage a billion dollar empire from scratch (Leona didn't even have a high school diploma)
2) Even though she was a multi-billionaire Leona remained extremely cheap and selfish

Leona was the epitome of 80's greed. She was one miserable (rhymes with) witch that did not have any redeeming qualities. This she-dog was the type of person who took great pleasure in hurting others that had less than her.

Just because she married well didn't mean she also had class. Sorry, but some people are just purely evil and Leona was one of them. I wonder if Leona is complaining that her accommodations are a tad too hot now?』

(Dishy Tabloid fare about memorable Helmsley)
『Even all these years later, most of us remain fascinated with the story of hotelier Leona Helmsley. Her scandalous life story is beautifully told in this comprehensive work that is always entertaining for voyeurs of the "rich&famous criminals." The horrible Helmsley still makes news for her bitchy behaviour and this is the book that thrust her into pop culture reknown, written by the reporter who would know best. A great read for fans of the bio/crime genre.』

(No Karma For The Queen)
『This Is America So: No Karma For the Queen

This is the story of....a meanie. The only time she shed a tear was when her (married) son kicked the bucket because of his bad heart while in the sack with another lady. After he croaked she then basically ex-communicated her daughter-in-law, and her grandchildren.

Also according to the story, her personal assistant who was often at her side, was asked to wipe her shoes clean with a rag like a shoe-shine boy, in front of people. She also liked to snap her fingers at people when she wanted things brought to her, or wanted someone to do something for her.

Then there's Mr. Helmsley. Another multi-millionaire with ample business acumen who lacked street smarts and contemporary social skills. (Doh! Where ya been Harry?) Leona set the trap: after their affair had schemingly precipitated to deeper emotional depths over time, the queen told Mr. H that another man had offered to marry her, and she showed him a fake diamond engagement ring he allegedly bought for her. None of this was true. But Harry fell for it. Leona made an ultimatum that it was now or never. All or nothing. She was not going to be the second banana in his life. The queen persuaded Harry to leave his wife of 33 years for her. He soon discovered what he was in for: a clingy nagger.

This is New York. He was a very wealthy man. He could have simply called a guy in Queens or Brooklyn named "Vito," and for about $50,000 her could have had her....but no. He put up with her because he was P-whipped.

Leona is gutsy and to the bone, and nothing ventured means nothing gained in life. But, the queen turned ambition into a sadistic perversion of making people miserable to inflate her ego. There are assertions that this was out of emotional neglect, or lack of emotional support from her mother when she was a child. Leona's mother, it seems favored Leona's older sister. Let's call out Dr. Freud, May, Rogers, Adler, or Phil McGraw.

After she schemed to marry and control Mr. Helmsley, she made all clear that she had the power to hire, buy, intimidate, and fire anyone at will. Before she nabbed Harry, her first major promotion in real-estate sales was a result of a performance on the casting couch with her boss who had the power and ability to promote her within Mr. H's company.

One tid-bit the author noted, was that part of her advertising promotion for one of her major hotels was to have a full deck of cards with 52 different pictures of her on each of them them. When the advertising company returned with the finished sample, previously approved by Leona, she snapped. She wanted the cards bigger, (bigger than regulation cards), and with gold edging. One by one she threw each one on the floor, and then told the advertising representatives, "have you ever played 52-pick-up. Now pick them up."

In her late 70s now, with time running out and Harry six-feet deep, the "queen of mean" recently donated a million dollars to a Christian organization for the "disadvantaged." She claims she did this not to improve her image, but because it was the "right thing to do." You fill in the blanks. The Queen hasn't got her Karma--yet. Her 4 year gig in the pen was heavily reduced.』

("Legacy" for Mary Stuart)
『The novel "Legacy" by Susan Kay is the consummate Elizabeth Tudor book. I've always been on the lookout for the equivalent for Mary.

Although this book is not quite as amazingly compelling as "Legacy", it's close. I felt I came away with a new understanding of Mary. It covers her from birth to death, and gives you an insight into her psychological state.

She's not a gibbering imbecile - as some books portray - but it does not whitewash the idiocy of some of her decisions. Rather they seem justified. It captures beautifully how Mary hardens and grows increasingly desperate after the murder of Rizzio, dealing with Darnley, etc.

And Elizabeth looms in the background as this dangerous, implacable foe. Always a step ahead. A lethal and compelling opponent for Mary.

The best book I've read in a while.』

(Always a favorite!)
『I first purchased a copy of this book when in high school, over 35 years ago.Somewhere in our many moves it disappeared, I was so happy to find it again. I was unsure of the exact title and after buying, reading and being disappointed in the ones by Fraizer and Gregory I despaired of ever finding it again. After reading description after description, this one sounded right, so I took the plunge. So glad I did.』

(The best book about Mary of Scotland)
『After reading this book, I was so facinated by Mary of Scotland that I read every book about her that I could get my hands on, both fiction and non-fiction. "Immortal Queen" was still the best of them all. I have probably read it 6 or 7 times. Unfortunately, I lost my paperback copy. Hopefully, I will be able to get it from an online book vendor because I would love to read it again.』

(One of the best books, fiction or non-fiction, about Mary Stuart!)
『I came upon this book at a library completely by accident. It is a historical novel about Mary Stuart, starting with her life in France as a child and ending with her execution. It is extremely well written and accurate, as far as I can tell. It reads like a very good novel and draws you in to a point where you don't want to put it down - even though you know what's going to happen. It gives great insights into Mary's life and personality. It actually made me feel somewhat sympathetic towards Mary (which I didn't prior to reading this book) - at least it made me sort of understand where she was coming from and why she did the things she did. IMO, this is one of the best books, fiction or non-fiction, I ever read about Mary Queen of Scots!』

(A Classic of Historical Fiction)
『Although it is a work of fiction that was first published nearly fifty years ago, "Immortal Queen" still ranks as arguably the finest book ever written on the controversial Mary Queen of Scots. The novel is beautifully written and better researched than most biographies, but what truly makes this book such a classic is Byrd's insight into Mary's enigmatic personality. The psychological portraits of Mary and her star-crossed soul mate, the Earl of Bothwell, are the most fascinating and plausible ever written, and illustrate the Scottish Queen and her times better than a boatload of Antonia Frasers could ever hope to do. For anyone who wonders what Mary "was really like," this is the book to read!』

(Teaches how important patience is)
『Reviewed by Spencer Zaborowski (age 13) for ReaderViews (3/08)

"Queen Crystal and The Land" by Sandra Jo Matusky is a magically wonderful book about fairytale-like giant birds, animals that talk telepathically, wizards, powers, kings, queens, enchanted places, and anything else that you would ever expect or need in a dreamy, fairy-tale land. I really enjoyed this book because I love fairy tales.

This book is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Crystal. She is the only blood-related relative next in line for the throne of her land. After her power-hungry father tries to kill her, she sets off to try to save `The Land' with a magical paper that her brother got trapped in. On her adventure, she meets a talking sword that is supposed to be her grandfather, many animals who try to help save her, small penguin men, a green frogman named Freddy, and a wizard father and his handsome son. Whew! It takes concentration to keep all of the characters straight! While she is on her quest, she travels to different palaces where her great grandparents have laid out tests for her. She meets a protector who was taking care of her on the quest. She falls in love with him but is never allowed to see him. When she finally gets back to the palace in `The Land,' she finds that most of the men are dead and the servants are in the palace dungeon. Then she has to battle her evil father for the throne.

There is more to this book that meets the eye. I enjoyed this book because it was funny, sad, romantic and adventurous. I think there are some lessons in this story, also. It teaches how important patience is, because Crystal has many tasks to do on her quest. Things are not always as they seem, and sometimes family members can be deceptive. Crystal is a great hero, and you will not want to put down this book until you find out what finally happens! Does Crystal win and save the kingdom?

This book is easy to read, with good grammar and lots of description. I very much enjoyed this book, and I hope that when you read "Queen Crystal and The Land," you will like it also!

(Cheryl Ellis highly recommends this one!)
『Title: Queen Crystal and The Land

Author: Sandra-Jo Matusky

"Listen to your inner spirit."

At first glance you would assume the story to be just another fantasy but in reading this fast paced tale, you will find it has been intricately woven with many valuable life lessons.
Since Crystal's mother, the Queen's sister, was brutally murdered by her father years ago; Crystal is heir to the throne of `The Land.' She possesses magical powers but is unaware of her strengths. It soon becomes apparent that she has 10 days to complete a journey through an exotic world to gather knowledge and strength. The journey prepares her for the battle against her corrupt father in order to prevent the destruction of this magical, happy place. Her deceased brother guides her, communicating through a magical newspaper as well as the irresponsible Knight who had been forever banished inside a ruby on the handle of a sword. Crystal rescues him from a Lion's pit and you will be surprised at who he turns out to be!
Sesha is not only her horse but a faithful friend and they communicate telepathically. Although her magic works wonders, it is Crystal's ingenuity that invents or creates ways to make the magic useful and stronger.
To give away any more detail would certainly spoil the fascinating journey she embarks on, I will however let you know that of the mystical creatures there are both saints and devils.
Throughout the journey she believes she has her first love ignoring her natural instincts. She learns the hard way another of life's lessons- "Love is built on trust."
She treats all forms of life with respect, the way she would like to be treated. This helps her to find that paths open for her and other beings like the `frogman' become much happier and therefore more helpful. " I allowed myself to see more than at first glance, more than skin deep."
Emotions of love and hope for the future are an asset to this tale. You will find the ending is filled with many emotions, sadness for those who are lost and happiness for those who find their way.
Young `Crystal Elderbee' is born and lives in the dreams of an extremely talented artist,
Sandra-Jo Matusky. Her style is captivating and each character is so well presented that you literally see them before your eyes. I will look forward to Book Two: Bringers of Balance as Crystal struggles to unite humans across Noore Continent.
Sandra-Jo Matusky has a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and teaches middle school art in Florida. Her hiking trips are inspirational for her illustrations and her vivid dreams. She resides in Land O' Lakes, Florida with her husband and two dogs.

Highly Recommended by Reviewer: Cheryl Ellis, Allbooks Reviews.

『From an incredible dream comes the story of Crystal and The Land. Her Father is intent on murdering his only daughter, but Crystal s deceased brother guides her on a journey to be Queen. You must defeat father or many will suffer! She reads her brother s words while sobbing over the magical paper. Crystal s world unfolds and her powers grow as she becomes ensnarled in secrets that have been hidden for generations.』

(Not just about the queens...)
『The Battle of the Queens is Jean Plaidy's fifth book in her Plantagenet series-of which there are fifteen. It begins where the fourth book, The Prince of Darkness, ended- just after King John's death and the crowning of his child son, Henry III. The title of the book may lead the reader to believe that the book is strictly about two queens- in this case, John's wife and Henry III's mother, the beautifully seductive and wild tempered Queen Isabella of England and the virtuously beautiful and strong Blanche, Queen of France. But it is also about many others who are in some ways connected to each of these women- Hugh Lusignan-Isabella's former lover and now husband-Isabella's children, Blanche's husband-King Louis VIII, the power hungry Hubert du Burgh- Henry III's justiciar- William Marshall and others.

It's a fascinating novel filled with a rich knowledge of two powerful queen's who despised each other upon their first meeting.

Queen Isabella takes her daughter's betrothed, Hugh, for herself (having been betrothed to him herself years before and marrying King John instead- better prospects.) Although she seems to love Hugh, she turns him into her slave, as he is bewitched by her and loses all sense when she is with him.

Blanche is a strong, surviving woman- one who her grandmother, Queen Eleanor found to be a great match for Louis VIII. Although Blanche loves her husband, she intends to rule his country for she knows he is a weak and somewhat naive man.

This book read very fast, due to the fact that there was so much going on- the newly crowned Henry and his struggle with his justiciar, Princess Eleanor and her secret marriage to Simon de Montfort, Richard Plantagenet and his unhappy and disappointing marriage, the hopelessly enamoured troubadour of Blanche, Princess Joan and the loss of her childhood love that she never recovered from...

This book is yet another brilliant and vividly detailed history lesson from Jean Plaidy. Once again, she perfectly captured a time that was anything but simple, yet fascinating all the same.』

(THE POWER BEHIND THE THRONE...)
『In this, her fifth book in the Plantagenet series, Jean Plaidy, renowned writer of historical fiction also known to her devoted fans as Victoria Holt, tackles the two most powerful women of the early thirteenth century, Isabella of Angouleme, the Dowager Queen of England, and Blanche, the Dowager Queen of France.

The heartbreakingly beautiful and sensual Isabella, a woman with little motherly instincts, had been married to King John of England, the most depraved, dissolute, and evil tyrant ever to rule over England, when she was just a child of twelve. John had been the youngest son of Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II of England. Unfortunately, he did not follow in the footsteps of his father in terms of his ability to govern his widespread kingdom. When John died a mysterious death, both Isabella and England were freed from his tyranny, and his and Isabella's eldest son, though a mere boy of nine at the time, became King Henry III of England. Isabella was now the Dowager Queen of England.

Meanwhile, across the English Channel in France, Blanche, the granddaughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II of England, had married Louis VIII of France. Her grandmother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, had handpicked her for that explicit purpose, as Eleanor had sensed in Blanche one such as she, a person with the wit and drive to be a strong queen. The marriage of Blanche and Louis had been a happy one, until an untimely death took Louis, who had been a well-meaning, though weak, king. Their handsome son, Louis, would become King Louis IX of France at the age of twelve. The beautiful Blanche, a virtuous and regal woman, was now the Dowager Queen of France.

When Isabella and Blanche would meet, it was clear that neither woman had much love for the other. When King John of England died, Isabella remarried Count Hugh of Lusignan, the man to whom she had originally been betrothed a lifetime ago, before King John had abducted her and made her his child bride. The fact that Joanna, her daughter with John, was now betrothed to Hugh did not deter Isabella from her determination to marry her first love. So, in addition to being the Dowager Queen of England, Isabella became a Countess through her marriage to Hugh, who was a vassal of France.

This was an untenable situation for Isabella, who despised Blanche and refused to give her and her son the homage that they were due. Isabella ruled her husband Hugh through her ability to provide many amorous and sensuous delights, causing him to commit many grave errors in judgment that were to cause much disharmony in his life. Isabella was single-minded in her determination to cause Blanche as much trouble as possible. She plotted and intrigued against the French crown and no perfidy was too great, encouraging her son, Henry, to try to regain the lands that his father, King John, had recklessly lost to the French. Blanche, however, was not oblivious to Isabella's hatred of her and, being a clever woman, made the necessary moves to keep her in check. One day, however, Isabella went too far and attempted the ultimate act of treason. It was an act that was to cause the tempestuous Isabella of Angouleme to come to an ignominious end.

This is a well-written and interesting work of historical fiction, revolving around two women who wielded a great deal of influence in early thirteenth century England and France. Replete with historical detail, the author paints a living picture of the political intrigues of the day. Historical figures are made three dimensional, adding a vibrancy to this enjoyable book, which those who love historical fiction of this period should enjoy.』

All I can say is "wow." What a great book! There are so many suspects in this book that it's almost impossible to guess who it is. I could've sworn it was that guy but it was actually someone else. Trust me, you'll never be able to guess the murderer.

If you read this book, expect the murderer to be who you least suspect.』

『I got this book from the libery and I read in a week and was so amazed of how great it was. Even the first sentence in the book was so intersting- " We couldn't stop talking about the killer."
The book was so fast paced and idickting. I loved the way R.L Stine just kept on killing off character after character. This was one of the few books where the story is narirated by the main character and it made the storty better too. The end was so twisted and unsespected. I could not believe my eyes when i saw the words at the last few chapters. This is a real good book, i would purchase it if your in the mood for a good scary story.』

(Most enjoyable yarn about ancient Egypt)
『War of the Crowns is entertaining, well written historical fiction set in ancient Egypt. It is the second volume in a series. While I enjoyed the novel, it did not make me want to rush to read the other volumes. As a story, it is well told, with action, humor, and likable characters. The "buddy comedy/ adventure" of the Afghan and Moustache is particularly appealing. I also like how the writer incorporates magic and mysticism. Sorcery and the gods were major elements of ancient Egyptian culture, and the characters treat them as if they are as real as bread and birds. Often in historicals and fantasies, magic is presented tongue-in-cheek; characters use it as a symbol because the commoners believe in it, not because there is any truth behind it. In this novel, magic is not mere myth but fact--perhaps not realistic, but historical because that's what the people believed. The writer does not waste his time explaining the real reasons behind the magic, since such commentary would detract from the story's progression. In my opinion the novel lacks complexity, which stops me from rating it 4 stars. The heroes are immaculately good and the villains are irrevocably bad, which limits characterization. The heroes occasionally feel doubt, but those moments pass quickly. I like how the writer uses the villains as focal characters, but they are never more than villains. More insight into their minds and agendas should have been offered.』

(The Queen of Freedom Continues the Fight)
『In this the second book in the Queen of Freedom trilogy the fight for liberation continues for the Egyptians against the first invaders of their land the Hyksos lead by their aging Emperor Apophis. In the 17th century B.C. the Hyksos used horse drawn chariots and other advanced weaponry to conqueror and begin a one hundred year occupation of Egypt forcing its people into slavery and oblivion. From the beginning twenty year old Queen Ahhotep along with her husband the Pharaoh Seqen devised a strategy to retake Egypt. Now, Queen Ahhotep is thirty nine, her husband Seqen murdered and her eldest son Kamose is Pharaoh.

Headquartered in Thebes the Thebans along with a loyal cast of supporters such as Afghan, Moustache, Qaris, Moon, Emheb, Heray, Neshi and Ahmes begin the second wave of attack following the lead of Seqen. With a sizable well trained army and a swift sailing fleet they head for the impregnable Per-Hathor to the south. They continue following the Nile south to conquer Elephantine and Buhen in Nubia facing the military might of King Nedjeh of Kerma. Victories in hand the Thebans head north toward the Hykos capital Avaris in the Delta. Along the way they retake Kebet, Qis, Abydos, Dendera, Nefrusy, Khmun, Sako, Faiyum, and Memphis getting all the way to the gates of Avaris. There is only one problem for the Thebans there is a master spy among them.

The Pharaoh Kamose after taking the port of Avaris is forced to retreat. Returning to Thebes it is found that Kamose has been poisoned and dies at the hand of the unidentified spy.

For the Hyksos Emperor Apophis there is Khamudi the self serving perverted High Treasurer only interested in furthering his wealth, Jannas the brilliant military Commander who seeks Khamudi's ruin and presides over the massacres of innocent Egyptians, Windswept, Apophis' sister, who is one of his many secret collaborators, and Aberia who strangles victims with her bare hands and commands the new prison camp in Sharuhen.

Jacq's writing is so vivid and imaginative. I feel like I am right there in the mist of it all. I feel the power of the magic in the ancient rites performed to provide guidance to the Egyptians. Jacq takes historical fact and makes me live it.』

(The fight continues....)
『Jacq's second in the Queen of Freedom trilogy has the oppressed Eygyptians continuing their freedom fight from their base at Thebes. Pharoah Seqen, Ahhtoep's husband, is dead, but he is succeeded by his extremely capable first son, Ahmes, a young man in his twenties who leads the resurgent Thebans with alacrity.
In this volume they take Elephantine, Buhen and stream south into Nubia to defeat Prince Nedjeh, felling Per-Hathor, Khmun and Nefrusy along the way. During the proceedings Pharaoh Kamose falls in love with Anat, the widow of Tita and marries her, Moustache falls in love with the Nubian, She-Cat (who eventually comes to head the medical corps).
Meanwhile, under the command of the evil Apophis, emperor of the occupying Hyksos, Jannas crushes both the Anatolian rebellion and the Minoan-supplied pirates, then presides over great atrocities at at Sakoa nd Per-Shaq whilst Khamudi takes up a sideline in opium dealing to further his position and wealth. The indescribably evil Aberia continues to strangle her way through hundreds, opening a prison camp at Sharuhen, condemning thousands to death. Amongst all the barbarity and genocide Windswept, Apophis' sister, falls in love with Minos, the finest Minoan painter of his generation, given as a tribute gift to Apophis to decorate his palaces. It is this act of love that forces a chink in the Hyksos armour, sowing the seeds that must eventually bloom into Apophis' downfall.
The second volume ends with the Thebans regaining all of Lower Egypt and Kamose taking the port of Avaris until finally murdered by the ever-present Hyskos spy whose identity remains a mystery thus paving the way for the final volume and the rise of Pharoah Ahmose, younger brother of Kamose.
Jacq's trilogy is proving an entertaining read and is building up a major sense of injustice at the enormous atrocities carried out by the Hyksos. The body count is so high through the novel that it suffers from a lack of emotiveness at times but it ensures the reader remains fimly on the Eygptian side during this turbulent period of history as they seek, against all the odds, to reclaim their homeland.』

『Christian Jacq, author of the international sensationsRamsesandThe Stone of Light, continues his epicQueen of Freedomtrilogy as the fiercely determined Queen Ahhotep struggles to save her people -- and reclaim her own legacy.

The barbaric Hyksos have taken possession of the whole of Egypt, imposing their harsh rule with unimaginable cruelty. Only Queen Ahhotep has yet to succumb. Not far from Thebes, the only city that retains its independence, she has established a secret military base to train her loyal fighters. Even when her husband is killed, Ahhotep refuses to yield, turning instead to her eldest son, Kames, who must take his father's place as pharaoh. Leading an increasingly powerful army, Ahhotep steals victory after victory -- despite the treachery that threatens Egypt from within. Slowly, the Egyptians are recovering their honor, growing stronger by the day -- and the brutal invaders no longer seem invincible. Unless Queen Ahhotep and her followers are being lured into an elaborately designed trap that may seal their doom....

Combining historical fact with a vivid imagination, Christian Jacq tells the enthralling true story of the Ancient Egyptian warrior-queen Ahhotep -- without whose valiant courage the Valley of the Kings and the glorious treasures of the pharaohs, including Ramses the Great, would never have existed.』
