The reader will learn much about not only the title subject, but the world in which she lived. The author's careful scholarship is a welcome correction to the haze that tends to surround the subject of voodoo in New Orleans.』
(Marie Laveaux Personalized) 『Dr. Fandrich did a great job in presenting a New Orleans legend in a manner that was both knowledgable and personal. I got to know Ms. Laveaux on a personal level and to understand her strength, character and power. Dr. Fandrich did a marvelous job in making the connection between the role of Africa in the worship of deities and the African diasporic religion of Voodoo as it was practiced in Haiti and then in New Orleans by Ms. Laveaux. I greatly enjoyed this book and it has inspired me in ways that words just cannot express. I would like to thank the ancestors for inspiring Dr. Fandrich to put the story of Marie Laveaux into context for others to utilize and enjoy.』
(Finally a Smart Book on Marie Laveaux) 『This is by far the best book I have read on the subject of Marie Laveaux. Dr. Fandrich not only captures the historical context of New Orleans before and during Marie Laveux's lifetime she also captures and explains the spiritual basis for New Orleans Voodoo. I find the book to be refreshing and informative. This book is full of historical information but at the same time is very interesting and is a fast read. This book is bound to be seen as the most important book on the subject of Marie Laveaux. Finally a book that provided me with information about questions I have been searching for in regards to this mysterious woman. Thank you Dr. Fandrich!!!』
(Best Source for Info on Marie Laveaux!) 『Dr. Fandrich has produced the first truly valuable study of Marie Laveaux for students and scholars of religion. She skillfully analyzes the historical fiction and popular legends surrounding New Orleans Voodoo and its most (in)famous Queen while explaining the roots of these myths through an explanation of Voodoo's development and history. Fandrich's personal research in the archives of New Orleans certainly paid of for her. Her hard work uncovered Laveaux's birth certificate (long thought lost) and thus gives a new and definite historicity to her subject. Instead of reading like a popular New Orleans tour book, this serious analysis of Marie Laveaux's life and the society that gave rise to her legend has a solid methodology. Both interesting and carefully researched down to the smallest detail, this book is a must have for any serious student of New Orleans, Voodoo, and African-American/Afro-Caribbean religions.』 『Numerous eyewitness accounts described New Orleans' famous Voodoo Queen Marie Laveaux as "the most powerful woman there is". As a person of African descent and a woman she was barred from holding public offices according to Antebellum United States laws. Nevertheless, it appears that it was she who ruled over the city, not the municipal authorities.
This study investigates the emergence of powerful female leadership in New Orleans' Voodoo tradition. It provides a careful examination of the cultural, historical, economic, demographic and socio-political factors that contributed both to the feminization of this religious culture and its strong female leaders. The quintessential example for this phenomenon of female power was Voodoo Queen Marie Laveaux, the most prominent and most influential Voodoo leader in the history of the city. She thus receives special attention in this analysis.』

And even though it's not necessary to read the previous books to get the author's point, it's a good idea to get them as well. The author's theory, equating Hyksos to Israelities, finds more evidence when he comapres Historical figures of Pharoahs of 21st Dynasty to their biblical couterparts. What I like the most about the book is that not only it describes interesting alternative history theory, but that author seems to be able to substantiate his theory with the evidence taken from historical accounts, from Bible, Koran and other scriptures. You should read this book with open mind, knowing that it is a radical alternative history book, as Ralph appropriately warns in each of his book.』 『Ralph Ellis has discovered indisputable links and comparisons between the Egyptian and Judaic royal lines, that demonstrate that King David and King Solomon were actually pharaohs of Egypt. This is why there is no evidence for these monarchs in the archaeology of modern Israel; for the evidence, including the tombs, sarcophagi and death-masks of these famous monarchs, are actually located in the north eastern Nile Delta. The Queen of Sheba was also related to this royal line and, as befitting the great 'Queen of the South', her sarcophagus was discovered at Deir el Bahri in Luxor. The book also shows the location of King Solomon's Mines and the true historical identity of Hiram Abif, the hero of the Masonic 3rd degree.』

In the early 1500s, Sarah Poyntz, the daughter of a merchant in Antwerp, Belgium, is caught up in the life of William Tyndale. Because of his work in translating the Bible into English, he is a wanted man. Although it puts them in deadly peril, Sarah's family shelters him from his enemies. Sarah Poyntz, the heroine of the book, risks her life to take an English Bible to the court of Henry VIII. Although the king is hostile to letting the Bible be printed in English, eventually he relents. This book is excellent story of a young girl's courage, and it is based on truth as well.』 『
Thrilling adventure stories introducing young readers (ages 8-12) to Christian heroes of the past.
Sarah Poyntz is the daughter of an English merchant who operates a shipping business from Antwerp, Belgium, in 1535. Her father is very interested in the ideas of William Tyndale, who has fled England as a condemned outlaw for refusing to stop his translation work of the English Bible. Tyndale believes that the Word of God should be read by the common people in their own language, a belief shared by the Poyntz family.
But when Tyndale is captured and imprisoned, Sarah becomes the only hope for saving his life. If she can successfully smuggle a copy of Tyndale's New Testament into the hands of the king's wife, Queen Anne, perhaps she can persuade him to spare Tyndale's life.
If Sarah's desperate mission fails, her family is in peril of their lives.
Will she have the courage to go through with it? Can Tyndale's life be spared?

Without romanticizing the negative elements of the gang phenomena, this study offers a counter-perspective to the criminological canon, and challenges the theoretical assumptions proffered in all but a few standard texts on gang-behavior.
A must read for those interested in the underclass debates, Latino/a youth culture, and grass roots social movements.』

That may be because of the lack of documentation to be had for her. Her character was flat and never came alive as I expected. Seems like the story was more about the men in her lives than her life.』
(The first full biography of Queen Emma) 『Emma The Twice-Crowned Queen: England In The Viking Age is the first full biography of Queen Emma, mother of Edward the Confessor and Hardecanute. The half-Danish sister of the Duke of Normandy and a descendant of Vikings, she would be Queen to two kings, Ethelred the Unready (who needed to ally with the Normans against Viking raiders) and later, the Danish Canute. She was a noteworthy political figure of her day, and her writings indicate she was a Danish nationalist who wished to see England join with Viking Denmark. Yet her great-nephew William the Conqueror would be the one to drastically alter the future of England. Drawing from primary sources, the work of scholars, contemporary writings and more, Emma The Twice-Crowned Queen is at once both scholarly and readily accessible. A must-have for British history and biography reference shelves. 』
IPhone 3G used's review (A very enjoyable book) 『This was a good read. I had one plot twist figured out pretty early, but the final twist was a total surprise. Usually Agatha Christie is the only one who can do that to me.』
(A Good Book!) 『This is a well told story of a young woman returning to her grandfather's home in the Highlands after the death of her parents. You learn about whiskey distillery operations, falconry, and the social interactions of the Highlands a hundred years ago. The story evolves into a bit of a mystery with a dramatic ending. Very satisfying.』
