(AARGH!)
『This is an ok book for a VERY general overview of queen rearing but if you really want to do it for yourself, do not count on this book. There is little of real use in that regard. Stick with the other books on the subject I'd say...』

(frustratingly unsystematic)
『It's the best book I know of on the subject, but that's only because there's not much else. It offers some interesting, random insights, but it's poorly organized and leaves out so much necessary to an understanding of queen rearing. Read it for the haphazard bits of knowledge, but don't expect to draw any cohesive understanding of queen rearing from it.』
『This book is the second edition of a popular and practical guide for those who want to grow a few or many queens. Queen rearing has been in practice for over a century. It is an art which requires patience, skill, and a steady hand. Whether you grow one, ten, or a thousand queens, you mush have a thorough knoweldge of the life history of the queen and how she differs from a worker bee.

The queen is the most important individual in the colony. She lays egges and produces the chemical substances that regulate social order in the hive. How well she does these things depends upon her physical condition, and this, in turn, depends upon the circumstances under which she is reared. The beekeeper who raises queens has a distinct advantage by producing better queens.

Since this book was published in 1979, many aspects of American beekeeping have changed. Two parasitic mites and the Africanized honey bees have invaded the North American continent. These invasions have increased beekeeper interest in queen rearing as a tool to help develop mite resistance and manage Africanized bees. The author has added a new chapter on rearing Africanized queens, based on his experience working with them in Brazil. The entire book has been extensively updates to meet the needs of today's progressive beekeeper.』

(not clearly labeled)
『This is not clearly identified as the musical score of the play. It is only identified as a paperback. I returned this item.』

(Great music)
『It's missing a couple songs I wish it had, but overall, very good - the arrangements are substantial, but not real difficult to play. The arrangements accurately reflect the soundtrack.』

(Great arrangments&music, but book should include more songs)
『I agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer. The piano arrangments for Woman, If I Said I Loved You, and I'll Be There were particularly outstanding. I'll Be There is tricky to arrange for piano, with all the 16ths (much like Where in the World from Secret Garden), but this is surprisingly easy to play, considering how much of the orchestra is included in the piano part here.

The music is just a bit more difficult than some other books (like the Les Misearbles vocal score, for instance) -- but this is an advantage. It's similar to the Martin Guerre books in difficulty. It's easier to read though -- I like the typesetting here better than in the Martin Guerre books; I think it's done with Sibelius this time.

Notably lacking from the book is the father-daughter duet My Grace, the two woman duet She Who Has All (I was certain this would be included -- sort of a shock to see it missing!), the important plot-piece The Choice is Mine, the tenor solo Surrender, and the Finale. In a follow-on book, I would very much appreciate seeing music to the orchestral Entr'acte (by far the most exciting music in the show), the Prologue, and the climactic Woman to Woman. Additionally, the music for the cut song The Woman That I Am would be great to see in sheet music form -- it might make a great audition piece and it's sad it got cut for the Broadway version.

One other comment -- Here on this Night used to be my favorite piece in the show, but there's something about this piano arrangment that makes it feel impersonal and lacking in passion compared with the recording. Likewise, it seemed more emotional in its Chicago version than on the Broadway recording. A piano arrangement of the original might be nice to see in the future.

All caveats aside, this is a great book and I highly recommend it to Les Miz/Miss Saigon/Martin Guerre fans. I bought three copies when it was released and sent two away as gifts immediately. Beautiful music!』

(Great Music, but why only 11 songs?)
『I love this musical; it's my favorite. The music and lyrics are genius. The songbook includes key songs for either a man or woman soloist that show off strength and passion ("Woman" and "I'll be There"). It includes beautiful love duets ("Here on This Night" and "If I said I Loved You") as well as strong, angry duet ("I Dismiss You"), all three for a man and woman. There are, in the song book, a few chorus numbers, but what this book left out is, the other 10 fantastic numbers. For example, "Woman to Woman" and "She Who Has All" are mesmerizing duets between two women and the loving father-daughter song titled "My Grace" have been left out. I understand leaving out a few of the songs which have fight scenes at the end and don't conclude properly, but the song "Surrender," another powerful male solo, shouldn't have been cut. I hope that a second book will come out with all of the songs available. Despite the missing songs, I'm thrilled that this book is out and the few songs that they have are available. If you're a fan of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon, this musical is for you.』
『From the creators of Les Miserables and the producers of Riverdance comes this new musical based on the life of 16th-century Irish pirate Grace O'Malley. Our songbook features 11 selections from the show: A Day Beyond Belclare * Boys'll Be Boys * Here on This Night * I Dismiss You * I'll Be There * If I Said I Love You * Sail to the Stars * The Role of the Queen * The Sea of Life * The Wedding * Woman.』

(Queen Mary 101 Review.)
『Great book giving facts and figures and I did like the format it used in asking questions one would ask if given the chahnce. Read it from cover to cover and found it very good reading and due the fact I had travelled on this ship way back Dec 1950 as a young lad coming to this country for this first time it meant a lot to me to refreash my memory of that trip.』
『Even before her launch RMS Queen Mary earned a special place in history. Job number 534, as the new Cunard liner was known, was Britain's largest passenger ship by far. In 1930 construction was begun, but as the stranglehold of The Depression tightened, Cunard announced that work was to cease. The half-finished hull sat on Clydebank for over two years, but was far from forgotten.

For the people of Britain, 534 became a beacon of hope; a barometer of the nation's economy. And so it was no coincidence that on the day work at John Brown's shipyard resumed, prices on the London Stock Exchange shot up. A new age had dawned. Without so much as entering the water, the new ship had won the hearts and minds of the British public. A few months later the first of a long line of 'firsts' began for the new liner. Britain's first ship over 1000 feet in length was ready to be launched. It would be the first occasion of its kind it to be reported live by BBC radio; and for the first time the consort of a reigning British monarch would do the honors.

The liner's 31-year ocean-going career would break countless records and re-write history. And her popularity soon spread across the Atlantic as she won the affection of America. Today she is enjoying retirement in the sun in Pier J, Long Beach, California as a floating hotel and events centre. Author David Ellery poses the 101 most crucial questions about her, from design, construction and machinery to stories concerning her name, interior design, and retirement, and provides detailed but concise answers to each one.

How fast was Queen Mary? Is it true the Queen Mary is haunted? Is the new Queen Mary 2 anything like the original Queen Mary? The result is a thoroughly engaging and informative book that provides the essential information to the world's very last remaining 1930s superliner.』

(Quickies)
『You always know where a smut story is going to end up; you just don't necessarily know the path it will take. So, when you're promised a story will get you there in five minutes, there is no time, no time whatsoever, for anything but moving directly to the wham-bam. So, don't expect too much in the way of character development, backstory, motivation or setting. There is no time for intrigue, seduction, or suspense, no time at all for denouement and deeply meaningful epilogue. You won't even get clothing descriptions, unless it's a reference to something that's being removed. What do you expect in five minutes, after all?

This book delivered completely.

It works, and works rather well. This stuff is short and sweet, and you know what you're getting up front. The book reads fast, and you can wolf this whole thing down in less than an hour if you really get into it. Some stories here were achingly predictable and equally trite, but there were no bad stories, no turn-offs, nothing unsavory or offensive. This is outstanding bedtime reading, whether you're having one or five.

Carol Queen's intro specifically says the stories are aimed at hetero women. I did not get that vibe from reading the stories. The author representation is 66% female. Interestingly, there are a number of stories by both male and female authors writing to the other gender's point of view; and they worked, for the most part.

You've got 35 stories in 121 pages. For the smut-nerds out there, that's 3.45714 pages per story, with the longest story coming in at a whopping five pages and the shortest being Cecilia Tan's unfortunately introductory, numbing, strangely non-erotic, one-sentence one-pager writing exercise on seduction. There's a short--of course--introduction from editor Carol Queen. And there are little author thumbnail bio's at the end, which are interesting reading themselves.

I don't really see this collection as an addition to your sex life, not unless you take these vignettes out for an emulatory spin. If so, I offer my heartiest approval and moral support. But, sitting in bed and reading these aloud; they just don't have the development and lushness of prose that would suit the charged reading of classic lyrical erotica. Save this for deSade, Pauline Reage, etc. Now, this collection as a personal warm-up to then attack your significant other? Yes, most definitely; I encourage this in all forms.

And what of the content? Overall, it was pretty straightforward, with just a little bit of accessible fringe. There were a couple of threesomes, both of which were well done, one of them replete with interesting grammatical construction and evocative vocab. There was one spanky story. But no BDSM, no water sports, leather, latex, farther-out fetish play or anything too far from the "normal" curve. There are a couple of lesbian and gay stories, for good measure, but the content is overwhelmingly hetero.

There are a couple of power-transfer-themed stories, including "Power Game" and "Captain, May I?" They're not bad, but relatively tame. There's even a delightfully naughty alien abduction entry, which I thought was quite enjoyable. There was a bit of the mainstream naughty romance novel in "The Fever." "The Magician's Assistant" was very good, a quick study in reflection, with no real contact or action at all, just a mature and confident woman musing on the possible and the likely; I particularly liked this one. I also very much enjoyed "Restaurant Opening," about a bored and under-appreciated wife who gives a delicious gift to another diner. Then there was "Subway," about a quick and anonymous encounter in a temporarily stopped and pitch-black subway car, also quite good.

But yes, there was disappointment, too. You know, despite this book's content and the fact that it's a paperback, this is no pulp book. But why does the presentation often strike me that way? There are paragraphs missing indentation, incorrect pronoun usage, verb tense inconsistency, inconsistent use of quotation marks, and more. My copy had over a dozen instances of dropped lines, the equivalent of a carriage return smack in the middle of a sentence.

Where is the editing? The "For You" story has slushpile lines like, "...my hands take your soft blouse apart" when it's clear "my hands open your soft blouse" is meant. Then comes the nonsensical "...the tension becomes voluptuous," and a passage talking about "...moving my wide-mouthed sucking lips..." I know what is being related here, but this is just awful. The "Under the Camel Light" story has a passage where the narrator says, "I straddled my legs..." What? The "Disco Nap" story notes an erogenous zone "...behind your kneecaps," when "behind your knees" was the clear intent. All together this is nothing but bad editing followed by bad technical editing and proofing. This is shoddy publishing; Running Press, give me a call, and we'll talk competent editing services.

Bottom line: This is a quick read, one story at a time, or the entire book in a single heady rush. There are no bad stories, and some decidedly more imaginative than others, all of which move more than quickly enough to seize and hold your attention. There are surprisingly frequent editorial mistakes throughout, but none of sufficient magnitude to detract from the varied and interesting erotic matter at hand.』

(Short pornography)
『A good collection of short sexy iterludes. No plots, no characterization -- just sex! Great for a quick "change of pace" from other reading.

(Short and Sweet)
『A very enjoyable book with bite size stories that don't waffle about with excess padding. The storyline is established and cuts to the action very quickly. It is a collection of erotic stories by different writers so each has a different style and feel about it. That is not a bad thing and on the whole most of the stories are excellent. The odd one, perhaps leaves you feeling a bit short, you feel they could have taken the bit in their teeth (or something else) and taken the story on a bit further, but on the whole it is very good. I found that it was a good book to open for a few minutes read to perk you up for the day. I particularly liked THE BOUNTY OF SUMMER by Carol Queen, that was very erotic story. I would highly recommend the book. Another book I would recommend that you have a look at, which has perhaps a stronger sexual content, is 100 PERCENT EROTICA by Suzie Van Aartman. This book could well become a classic in my opinion.100 Percent Erotica』

(Good)
『This is good, it isn't overly racy...it is a little conservative and on the tame side, but also very polished and sophisticated.
I think that experienced readers of erotic romance novels would not be satisfied with this collection as the stories are three to four pages each and therefore don't build to a suspenseful crescendo. For readers searching for a tasteful introduction to erotica, this has some beautiful work and there is something for everyone and every age between it's pages.

(Luke warm.... if your 80 yrs old!)
『Everyone's idea of erotica is different. Now that that is out of the way, this book sucked. Sure there was a couple of good stories but 99% was hot if you are an 80 yr old person. Erotica should get someone hot and rearing to go. This had me ready to go to bed, and sleep the rest of the night. B_O_R_I_N_G sums up this LAME book.』
『Here's another entry in our wildly popular series of very short stories that can be enjoyed, start to finish, in less time than it takes to brew a cup of tea. This new anthology of pleasingly brief tales features contributions from some of the best writers of erotica today. While most of the stories feature heterosexual sex,Five-Minute Eroticaalso offers a good mix of fantasy situations, including lesbian encounters and ménages à trois.』

(very good book)
『i enjoyed this book enormously. the main charachter, cass has promised to care for the daughter of a man who had befriended him. this friend gave him the money to go to the yukon, with the promise he would take care of her. the daughter, serena, insisted cass take her with him. cass's one desire is to strike it rich, because a girl he thought he loved, turned him away because he was not of her social status. while hunting for gold, he starts to have feelings for serena. while serena cares for him deeply she starts to see the mounted policeman, sam steele. steele falls in love with her. serena cares for him, but really loves cass.
the young couple have a series of adventures including serena learning how to drive dogs and sled. she saves his life when he falls through the ice, and he gets shot, but is not hurt because of a sack of gold dust in his pocket. sam is very graceful about letting serena go.
i found the gentleness of the main charachters very nice.』

(Difficult to finish)
『I had a difficult time finishing this novel. The dialog was especially problematic -- everybody said exactly what he or she wanted to say (no subtext; no subtlety). I also found many of the characters to be clichéd (note especially the Mounted Police officer Steele). The story also became quite preachy at times.

I wouldn't recommend this series.』

(Very good!)
『This book shows a very accurate description of the Klondike gold rush, it's amazing how well it's done. Cass and Serena, also accompanied by Cass's cousins Aaron and Jubal Winslow, set out together at the start, but after Jubal is killed in an avalanche after he pushes Aaron out of the way, Aaron is promptly discouraged and returns home (see Book #18 to see what happens to Aaron after that). It's great that they reintroduced Joe Winslow, their grandfather Sky's oldest son, introduced in Book #7, and virtually forgotten since then. Parts of the story tend to drag out, but everything comes right in the end, as usually happens in all "House of Winslow" books.』
『House of Winslow Book 17- Late in 1896, Cassidy Winslow leaves his family's ranch in Wyoming to pursue his own fortunes but is hardly prepared for life in New York. He hates his job and tires of city life, but falls in love with a rich young woman who treats him like an interesting toy. She finally breaks his heart, and Cass heads for the West Coast with the determination that he'll do anything to get rich. When news comes to Seattle of the gold strike in the Klondike, all that holds Cass back is his debt of care to a man named Fletcher Stevens. The dying man's offer of money to fund Cassidy's trip to the gold fields of the Yukon is conditioned by a promise that Cass will take the man's daughter with him to share what gold they can find. Cass agrees, and when Stevens dies, he goes to tell the daughter the news. Serena Stevens had been placed in a convent by her father after her mother's death, and though she hates it there, she has little choice. When Cass comes and tells her of her father's offer, she can't be talked out of going, and so the adventure begins. But the Klondike is a cold, hard world where death is only a bullet away!』

(History as told by the one who experienced it.)
『Lili`uokalani was the final native monarch of the Kingdom of Hawai'i. The illegal overthrow of her legitimate government by the Doles and other (American) foreigners is detailed in this volume.

I first heard of Lili`uokalani as a child&was very surprised to find this book available from my local library system recently. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will now purchase a copy for my own reference. If you want to know the TRUE history of Hawai'i, I can think of no better place to start than this original source. As Queen of Hawai'i and as co-ruler with her brother before his death, she was in possession of information and written sources which are no longer available except in her own recitation.

I HIGHLY recommend this book.』

(Hawaii's Queen)
『This is a book that I've wanted for years. Excellent book with tons of information. Gives a lot of insight of life back then. I also use this for a reference book.』

(Important Hawaiian history book)
『Most Americans don't know that Hawaii had it's own sovereign Kingdom along with a constitution and monarchy. Businessmen along with the U.S. military conspired to over throw the legitimate government of Hawaii (where have we heard this before?) Queen Liliuokalani writes in plain detail for all to see what happened during the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Hawaii's Story is a very good book in understanding the history of what happened to the Hawaiian people and their government.』

(Black Moment in American History)
『The fact that Liliuokalani was able to write this book with such little bitterness and rancor says much about her as a person. The whole Hawaiian affair of 1893 is without a doubt one of the blackest moments in American history. This book is a good introduction to Hawaiian history, PBS did a documentary on Liliuokalani and the History Channel did a outstanding documentary called " Conquest of Hawaii " all of which are available on Amazon. Sadly, the whole issue of Liliuokalani and the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdon is used by political demagouges in Hawaii today and by Leftist activists who have other agendas other than the the welfare of Native Hawaiians. Many Hawaiians are of mixed ancestry and are sometimes not looked upon as " real Hawaiians ". I wonder what Liliuokalani would think about that. Read this book and you will learn great insight into the mind of this great lady who was also an acomplished composer who wrote the song "Aloha Oe".』

(A taste of Hawaiian modern history.)
『Hawaii's Story is a brief and somewhat long winded tale. This book part autobiography and part memoir, details the life of Queen Lili'uokalani the last monarch of the Hawaiian Islands. The Queen describes the events of her life in some cases in minute detail. A devout Christian and a socialite, the Queen constantly describes dinner parties as well as other social occassions she attended. In some places the Queen does detail the happenings on the Hawaiian Islands, and finally toward the end of the book she details the overthrow of her administration and the attempts by the new provisional government to annex the Islands to the U.S.

The Queen makes some valid points in arguing against annexation by the U.S. The book does contain some interesting chapters detailing the resulting investigation of U.S. authorities into her regimes overthrow and how the Cleveland Administration attempted to end the wrongful overthrow of the Queen. The Queen till the end is a respectful and articulate writer and never seems as though her anger has influenced her words. Hawaii's Story is a sad chapter in U.S. History. This book contains many pieces of interesting information and is a good starting place for those interested in studying the subject. Those looking for a more in-depth analysis or a more direct. factual account on Hawaii's history should look further as they will not find much information on Hawaiis history outside of the late 1800s.』

『The Hawaiian kingdom's last monarch wrote her biography in 1897, the year before the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands by the United States. Her story covers six decades of island history told from the viewpoint of a major historical figure. Introduction by Glen Grant.』

『This Halloween book is appropriate for both girls and boys - don't be deceived by the title. The main characters in the book are a little girl AND a little boy. The book is the perfect length for preschool aged children and the illustrations are bright and detailed and offer a lot for little eyes to ponder. I would recommend this book for a gift, the classroom, daycare, etc.』

(Halloween courage!)
『"Queen of Halloween" is a treat of a story for very young readers. Never even slightly scary, the book teaches a lesson about courage. Mary Engelbreit's bright and cheerful illustrations make it even more fun to read.

It's a simple little story that is perfect for kids on the spookiest holiday of them all.

(Sweet story, beautiful pictures)
『The story begins as two children, a fairy queen and a pirate, head out for a night of trick or treating. They struggle through feelings of fear and bravery. The story contains a nice little moral by which to learn and grow. The pictures are vibrantly colored and interesting. A wonderful new addition for the Halloween season.』

Wearing the perfect fairy queen costume, with her friend Michael by her side, Ann Estelle is ready for a Halloween night on the town. And what a night it is—full of ghosts and mummies and witches and wizards, and lots of candy, of course.

But Halloween can also be a little bit scary, as Ann Estelle discovers when she tries trick-or-treating at the spookiest house in town. It's awfully dark up there . . . and the pathway is awfully long. Will Ann Estelle be brave enough to ring the bell?

Little trick-or-treaters will enjoy this Halloween outing that sparkles with Mary Engelbreit's signature wit and charm.
