I think this book not only speaks to girls but women who still have the little girl inside. Highly recommended.』
(Inspirational and motivational) 『Susie gives an inspirational account of the four areas that one needs to address in order to build confidence which will lead to unleashing your ultimate beauty.
The four keys are:
* Identify and effectively develop your spirituality - Susie discusses developing your spirituality by finding out what makes you tick, staying positive and developing an attitude of gratitude. The latter two she learned a lot about from her mother, who she calls "Mami" a hard-working, resilient woman. Susie says, "effectively developing your spirituality is the most importing key because knowing who you are empowers you, improves your self-esteem, and imbues you with confidence.
* Discover and embrace your relationships - we learn that developing relationships are important for self-esteem because strong bonds with family, friends, and mentors provide a support system when and where you need them. Throughout the book, Susie describes her relationship with her mom. Even though she may have disagreements with her from time to time, she respected her opinion and told her what her dreams were especially since her mother always gave her positive encouragement. To this day, Susie says she calls her mom to tell her what is happening in her life and uses her as a sounding board.
* Take control of your health and body image - Susie says that taking control of your health and body image will lead to confidence because how you feel in the inside will reflect on the outside. Here she talks about the importance of eating right - not showing up to work starving and not being able to think - and exercising. This section is also great for those who don't have anyone who can tell them about clothes, fashion, hair, make-up and little tips for homemade spa treatments.
* Believe in your dreams and make them a reality - we find out the importance of determining your passion, researching how to going about getting what you want, creating a realistic plan for achieving it, and the determination and perseverance to keep going for it until you succeed.
"Confidence Is Queen" is a great book full of inspiration for any young woman looking to do something positive with their lives but I recommend this book for any one who needs a little more confidence.
』
(Excellent Theme of Positivity and Perseverance.) 『In a time where there is increasing pressure from the "public" to give the government more power over our children's development and future, Suzie inspirationally reminds us all what truly successful individuals already know. There is no substitute for confidence, positivity, taking personal responsibility for one's actions, and the need for a strong parental role model in a child's life. There is no doubt Suzie has overcome great obstacles on her journey. But for any young lady trying to find her way in today's environment, Suzie is an excellent individual to follow. This is a must read for both young women and their parents alike.』
(THIS BOOK IS GREAT) 『I actually purchased this book for my niece, she was so inspired by the book that I decided to read it myself. Susie speaks from the heart and really illustrates how important confidence and believing in yourself is, AND how east it is to achieve your goals by focusing and developing on your strengths, interests, and that a strong mind builds a strong and successful person!! I highly recommend this book for everyone, especially young adults!!! great job susie.』
(Inspirational and Insightful) 『Finally, a book that fills the gap for the developing young lady that may be lost, with no direction. Susie's insight into the difficulties during this tough time of adolescence is a must for not only the young person going through it but her parent's as well. They, too, will learn firsthand what their daughter is feeling.』 『In this every girl’s guide for life, Susie Castillo illustrates how to become the most confident, positive, and beautiful you.
MTV VJ, face of Neutrogena and former Miss USA, Susie Castillo, knows first-hand what it takes to get the most out of life—confidence. She learned this through her greatest victories as well as through her greatest challenges. From detractors who felt she would never amount to anything, to her father who left her and her family when she was only six years old, it was very easy for Susie to feel discouraged and insecure. But her resilient mother taught Susie the power of positive thinking that led to her confidence, earning her a crown and a dream come true.
Today, that positive thinking has become a way of life for Susie. And in this revealing and inspirational book she pinpoints the areas of your life you need to address to build your confidence, and the four keys to unleashing your ultimate beauty. Learn how to:

(Terrific read.) 『This has intersting facts about Mary, Queen of Scots. Like the other Dead Famous books, this includes cartoons too adding to the fun of reading. Children would love this book and likely become interested in Mary and her world. Mary did not have a very good end though. For nineteen years (!) she was imprisoned in various castles before meeting a very gory end. I recommend this in addition to Elizabeth I and her conquests.』 『Mary Queen of Scots is dead famous for: having terrible taste in husbands, rotting away in Liz 1's prison and, totally losing her head - on the chopping block. But have you heard that Mary: was a six-foot stunner who had a charmed childhood, got kidnapped by a murderous lord - and married him, managed to give her executioner a fright or two? Even though she's dead, Mary's still full of surprises. Now you can get the inside story with Mary's secret diary, read all about it in The Scottish Herald, and discover some Prickly Thistle Facts about the Scottish Queen and her hopeless husbands.』

If you can appreciate that fact as well, you will appreciate this book. I love that Amazon can find these gems I may not see in the bookstores.』
(VERY INTERESTING. IT MEET MY NEEDS.) 『There are a couple of facts we need to remember when reading this particular book. First, and this is important, it, the book, is not a Doctorial Thesis and it is not written as such. This is a popular historical work, meant to inform, but at the same time, to entertain. Secondly, I too, like a couple of other reviewers, was a bit disappointed that more was not written about the main character, Emma, her personal life, etc. This leads to the second fact we must remember. Source documents from this era, in particular personal histories, are very, very hard to come by. Most documents from this time have simply disappeared, have been destroyed, or are lost in some historical black hole. This being said and this being remembered, as the book is being read, might help.
The author has given us a fascinating look into the life and politics during the latter part of the first century. A very troubled time for England, and indeed, most of Europe. True, she, the author, does not go into the depth of her subject as many of us would like, but as I have stated, the author had very few source documents of refer to. This work is done in the "popular mode," and is quite readable. The author has taken great pains to let us know when she is stating documented facts and when she drifts into the realm of speculation. This is important to understand what the author is trying to do. I found the author's style far from dry, considering the subject matter. Queen Emma was indeed a complex and fascinating woman and the author has gone to great lengths to bring this across.
This is one of those book I like to call a "tickler," or "seed book." It gives information to those who are interested in a subject, but not fanatical about it. My primary interest is in New World History, but I do like to know where we came from. Works such as this give me as much information as I need for my purposes. Granted, if I were doing a research paper, or was extremely interested in the subject, I would indeed want more. As it stands though, this work gave me a wonder glance into those days and times. Now that I have this information, I find I do have an interest and this work has "tickled" me into checking other works out. This is a good thing. Perhaps one day I could land a nice juicy government grant, travel to England, and check out some of the source documents myself. Would not that be fun!
All in all, I found the work to be very well done, enjoyable to read and quite helpful. I do recommend this one for any individual interested in those days and times and the Queen Emma. 』
(High quality popular history-biography) 『Emma of Normandy was the daughter of Richard I and his Danish "handfast" wife, Gunnor, whose origins are obscure. She married Aethelred II of England, was widowed, and married the Danish invader, Canute the Great the next year. One of her sons by each husband subsequently ruled England. She also became the mother-in-law of Henry III of Germany and was the great-aunt of William the Conqueror. But Emma wasn't the typical royal spouse. She learned how to wield power, played an expert political game, and suffered the failings of greed and scandal. Because of her wide and deep connections between the conquering Danes and Normans and the conquered English, this lively, well-written volume is more than a biography. Though the author is a journalist rather than an academic, she has produced a popular history with thorough source citations that is well worth the reading.』
(The Title Contains the Name EMMA, But Where's EMMA??) 『If you like Medieval history and the history of continuous Viking raids on England, maybe you'll find this book enjoyable. For me, it was a huge disappointment. The author appears to have no concrete evidence about Queen Emma's public or private life, reign, whereabouts during specific periods in British history, children, marriages, or anything else surrounding the book's main topic. Although a short read, it is dry and without enthusiasm. The book's main subject, Emma, is incidental throughout the entire "biography." Emma happened to be the English queen during Viking raids and that's about it. There is plenty of guess-work on the part of the author about what Emma might have done, might have seen, might have said or read, but there's nothing solid or concrete. There are, however, some interesting insights into Medieval life at the time of Emma's reign but that's about it.』
(Very enjoyable -- could have been deeper) 『The century or two leading up to the Norman Conquest is a favorite historical period for me, and I've read a number of books balanced roughly on the fulcrum of the year 1000, give or take. And Ms. O'Brien's was a very worthwhile addition to them. Like another reviewer, though, I wished for more on Emma -- or Aelfgifu as the Anglo-Saxons called her. Still, the book was quite a worthwhile and well-written portrait of the times and the characters involved in those fateful years.
And I still say Harold got a raw deal. Arrow in the eye (at least, according to the Bayeux Tapestry) -- that's gotta hurt! ;)』 『
“A lively account of the harsh realities of war and politics in this era,the vagaries of political marriage and the thin line between invaders and settlers.”—Publishers Weekly
Emma, one of England’s most remarkable queens, made her mark on a nation beset by Viking raiders at the end of the Dark Ages. At the center of a triangle of Anglo Saxons, Vikings, and Normans all jostling for control of England, Emma was a political pawn who became an unscrupulous manipulator. Regarded by her contemporaries as a generous Christian patron, an admired regent, and a Machiavellian mother, Emma was, above all, a survivor: hers was a life marked by dramatic reversals of fortune, all of which she overcame.
IPhone 3G used's review (One of Queen's best!) 『This is sort of a strange story, but I think that such can be said of most Ellery Queen mysteries. In any event, I've read them all and this is one of the three best that "the two cousins," (Nathan, a.k.a. "Dannay," and, Lepofsky, a.k.a. "Lee"), ever wrote.
Ellery and his dad, Inspector Queen of the NYPD, are enjoying a much-needed touring vacation through the Western U.S. They get lost on a rutty backroad when a forest fire breaks out and forces them to a strange old mountaintop mansion. There, they find a renowned physician living in seclusion with a weird parade of family, staff, and guests.
As the fire encroaches each day upon the mountain, the suspense builds and, of course, murder ensues. It's up to Ellery and his dad to sort through the bizarre cast of principals and put the finger on the guilty party.
It would be a bit of a spoiler to reveal the precise nature of the title but, leave it to say, it's one of the strangest facets of the mystery.

(blah!) 『After picking it up and putting it down several times, I finally gave up. The premise sounds good, but the characterization sucked. The story line jumped around too much and the story simply could not hold my interest.』
(I'm going to read it a second time) 『This is simply the best book that CE Murphy has written. The characters are so rich and complex, and being able to look into their minds is a special treat. Yes, Belinda is a bitch. Yes, she uses her power to her advantage. Yes, she is an assassin.
THANK GOD. That makes her different. It makes her so much fun to read. I love that a female character is allowed to be so much more than wedding fodder. And really being able to read this story from the not-quite-good side of things made it so very entertaining.
I cannot wait for the next book.』
(Hoping the Pretenders Crown is better) 『I'm looking forward to the next book because now that the plot is set and I know a little bit about the characters maybe the next book will be a bit more entertaining. I found myself a bit lost from time to time with the political aspects of the book. Alot of lies, sex, betrayals. Belinda seems to be on the fence at this point struggling with duty, loyalty and what she wants for herself but can't have. Murphy is a good writer and that's why I'm hoping the sequel will be better.』
(A Very Interesting Read) 『Ok, so I actually don't think the book necesarrily deserves 5 stars (prolly closer to a 4), but I am admitedly trying to raise the overall rating, as it certainly deserves a better rating than Laurell K Hamiltons latest book!!!!
I agree with many of the reviewers that the characters were pretty much unlikeable. But that is what made the book interesting to me, and more... human I guess. I think it was a brave move on the author's part to show the flaws, and let the characters be human, not heroes. I will certainly read the next book, and the next if it is a trilogy, just to see what develops.
The plot was intersting, and twists were unpredictable. The backstory is intriguing enough to encourage exploration, without being so vague as to be frustrating. All in all I enjoyed the book, and feel respect for the author to stray away from the norm of her genre.』 『“Wow. C. E. Murphy is good. Court intrigue in an alternate Elizabethan-era fantasy world: realpolitik with the sex included.” –Kate Elliott, author of Crown of Stars
In a world where religion has ripped apart the old order, Belinda Primrose is the queen’s secret weapon. The unacknowledged daughter of Lorraine, the first queen to sit on the Aulunian throne, Belinda has been trained as a spy since the age of twelve by her father, Lorraine’s lover and spymaster.
Cunning and alluring, fluent in languages and able to take on any persona, Belinda can infiltrate the glittering courts of Echon where her mother’s enemies conspire. She can seduce at will and kill if she must. But Belinda’s spying takes a new twist when her witchlight appears.
Now Belinda’s powers are unlike anything Lorraine could have imagined. They can turn an obedient daughter into a rival who understands that anything can be hers, including the wickedly sensual Javier, whose throne Lorraine both covets and fears. But Javier is also witchbreed, a man whose ability rivals Belinda’s own . . . and can be just as dangerous.
Amid court intrigue and magic, loyalty and love can lead to more daring passions, as Belinda discovers that power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.
“C. E. Murphy vividly reimagines Renaissance Europe as a world both familiar and strange. Filled with intrigue and betrayal, her story is a chess game with six of seven sides, and I look forward to seeing what the next moves are.” –Marie Brennan, author of Warrior and Witch』
『ere is one of my favorite stories! I have re-read it countless times during my 30 years of marriage to help me remember how important it is to be the wife and mother God wants me to be! This charming, touching story will make you want to put a tablecloth on the table, brush your hair, and put on your lipstick right now.

If you're somebody like Shelby Chappelle, a smart, witty, pretty geek army of one, you can't just put a poster up at school and advertise for somebody to be your best friend. But now freakishly tall Becca Gallagher has moved to town, with her dragon tattoo and wild ideas. Suddenly Shelby's mad scientist father and their robot, Euphoria, seem normal. They become best friends instantly. But Becca wants to shake things up at school and look for "others of our kind"...and decides to form the Queen Geek Social Club.
The thing is, this guy Fletcher Berkowitz keeps nosing around, asking lots of questions about the Club. He's cute, and interesting, and possibly likes Shelby. Therefore, she must torture him. One good thing about being a loner: no one can break your heart.
I, like many other reviewers, had mixed feelings about this book. There were some stuff that I really liked, then there were other stuff that I disliked.
Likes:
-The whole geek club thing (was original and sounded like a cool club) -It had romance (I'm a sucker books that have romance) -Sometimes it was very funny. -It was entertaining...sometimes. -The pranks that they pulled -Shelby's robot, Euphoria ( She was more interesting that Shelby).
Dislikes:
-The characters. I had a hard time connecting with them. -The plot moved slowly. I had to put it down multiple times. -The club didn't really achieve its purpose (to allow them to make new friends...they did meet new people, but they didn't seem as if they were friends) -The main character, Shelby, got on my nerves. She was too annoying and whiny.
Overall, this was an OK book.I might read the rest of the series, but I won't expect much from them. I liked the club idea, the occasional humor, the romance, and the pranks. The rest, I disliked. It's not a book I would strongly recommend. If you want to read this series, be my guest. Just know what to expect. -Carol [...]』
(Liv's Book Reviews) 『There were some things about this book that worked and some that didn't. What worked: The characters. They were wacky and zany enough to be believable. The whole idea of starting a club for geeks is just weird enough to sound like it could fly. I'm sure something like that might actually be popular at some of our schools, right? Shelby and Becca also had some great friendship chemistry going. When they first met each other, it just kind of felt right. It really clicked for me. Even among people, I don't think that happens very often so it was great that Laura Preble was able to convey that kind of connection through prose. What didn't: The whole book was kind of slow to me. There was nothing about it that grabbed me or really made me want to keep reading. At all. And while the afore mentioned wackiness can be a good thing, I think it got rather out of hand. It sort of turned into a big free for all, anything flies, type of situation which isn't all that fun to read about. I wanted more structure and normalcy. Shelby also kind of annoyed me at points because she was so single minded. She got upset or discouraged over the littlest things, which wasn't fun to read about either. In conclusion: This was an okay book. Not superb, not horrendous, just in between. I suppose I recommend it, but really, only pick it up if you've got nothing better to read, because it won't do much for you and what book's worth reading if you're bored throughout the whole thing?』
(Only Semi-Entertaining) 『Shelby Chapelle is a geek and fine with it. She's smart and pretty and can easily get dates, but all she really wants is a Best Friend. That role is filled by the wild Becca Gallagher. Becca is also a geek and proud of it. The girls instantly bond and become best friends. But Becca is a bit more on the radical side; she wants to find "others of their kind," and thus the Queen Geek Social Club is born. The main goal of the club is to empower these geeky girls through various projects. The plans get bigger and bigger (Becca is planning to change the world), but sometimes Shelby doesn't know why she's along for the ride. It doesn't help that she's confused about a certain attractive Norwegian exchange student and another guy named Fletcher. This Queen Geek is going to have to get her brain into gear if she's going to be the most spectacular person she can be.
I have mixed reactions about The Queen Geek Social Club. This novel succeeded in being humorous and romantic. However, the characters were a bit confusing, especially when tied together with the club. One of the points of the club was to find other geeky girls so they could work together; half the time it seems like they weren't really friends. Several of the characters' motivations for hiding certain secrets were unclear. Also, sometimes main character Shelby was a mystery to me, and I thought it was strange how she just suddenly realized at the end of the novel her role in the Queen Geek Social Club and the club's role in her life. I did love the pranks and ideas that Becca came up with, and I did get some good laughs from reading this book. But the amusing comments only partially made up for the strangely constructed characters, and the result was that this novel was only mildly entertaining.
I'm not really sure if I will read the rest of this series. Girls who love funny and romantic stories may enjoy The Queen Geek Social Club. If you are looking for a book with more meaning, I would not suggest reading it.』
(The Queen Geek Social Club) 『Shelby Chapelle is in fact a geek with no friends until a new girl moves to town. Shelby quickly befriends this new girl named Becca Gallagher. Becca is a little strange and out there with her dragon tatoo and ambitios dreams which is completly the oppisite of Shelby. Shelby is use to her "normal" life with her scientist father and his home made house keeping robot named Euphoria but Becca is not satisfied. Becca ends up convincing Shelby to be the spokeswomen for the new group she wants to set up where people of "their kind" can meet. The group comes up with ideas like collecting twinkies for freakishly skinny models and ingoring boys for a day. Not only is Shelby trying to balance being a straight A student and managing The Queen Geek Social Club, she also has to deal with cute but yet annoying boy named Fletcher Berkowitz. My favorite parts of the book are when she is conversing with Fletcher. Even though this book is humoruos in parts I found this book to be quite bland. I think the main reason why I felt this way is beacuse I didn't like the charecters. I felt that Shelby was rude and mean and Becca was just too strange. I also thought that is was a bit slow. This book is a quick read and can be read in a few days I still recommend the book beacuse I feel it teaches a good lesson and becasue it was also funny and delightful in some parts. 』
(fun girl-power story) 『Shelby has always been a geek island unto herself. So when Becca-- dragon-tattooed, freakishly tall Becca-- moves to town and befriends Shelby, she's grateful. With Becca by her side, Shelby's robot housekeeper and absent-minded professor father seem normal by comparison, especially when Becca insists on looking for "others of their kind"-- by forming the Queen Geek Social Club. They have quite a bit of success, and their club gets underway quickly. It's a girls-only thing (hence the Queen Geek), but Fletcher Berkowitz keeps nosing around and asking questions. His motivation may possibly be that he likes Shelby, which of course means that she has to torture him. No one breaks a Queen Geek's heart. Shelby and friends are quirky, likeable characters that are easily identifiable. The story is a classic feel-good high school story, but the Queen Geeks and writing style make it anything but stale.』 『It's chic to be geek!
