(not useful)
『Although the subtitle is "fifty inspired color plans for painting every room in your home", there are only 16 photos. The rest of the palettes have very simple inked and colored illustrations, for example, a cameo, a couple of flamingos, two pears, a bicyclist and other uninspiring subjects. This book is arranged by color combinations. Sounds good, but it isn't. For example, the "Iceland Poppy" palette has a poorly executed water color painting of light pink poppies surrounded by lime green against a white fence. It also shows three color swatches but the colors don't match the colors in the painting! This is how most of the palettes are illustrated.』

(The Perfect Palette)
『I have used this book with out current house and plan on using it in our next house. After years of renting we knew nothing in our house would be white or beige. The Perfect Palette gave us a start. It took the fear of color away. More over friends and family visiting us are commenting on how great the colors work together. I have several color books but this book has been the most practical and useful book. The key is to just use it.』

(Love this book!)
『I grew up drawing and painting on canvas, but when it comes to painting a wall...picking the right color for the room is so frustrating to me! This book really helped, and I had a lot of fun going through the different combinations. Bought a beautiful watercolor for my parents while they were on vacation, hung it on their white wall, and it just didn't look right. Went through Bonnie's book, and that weekend painted their living room, entry, and hallway in the "Lilac" palette. Perfect! Everyone just loved it! A friend was having issues redecorating. I looked at her main pieces of furniture, and through Bonnie's descriptions of what furnishings go with each palette, picked "Golden Apples" for her living/dining room, entry, and family room. It looked so good friend's thought she had a designer take over! Love this book! Gave it a 4 instead of 5 because I would like to see a few more neutral and deeper color combinations. But, what a helpful book!』

(STILL FIVE STARS)
『I'M A BIG FAN OF THIS BOOK. IT HAS HELPED ME A GREAT DEAL IN PAINTING AND DECORATING MY HOME. I AM EQUALLY THRILLED THAT MS. KRIMS CAME OUT WITH ANOTHER PERFECT PALETTE BOOK. I JUST ORDERED A COPY AND CAN'T WAIT TO POUR OVER THE PAGES.』

(For those with imaginations and lots of time on their hands!)
『There were not very many real-life applications in this book, which was very disappointing. The colors were more in the pastel range, and hardly any of the rooms shown contained a deep or bright color. If you are looking to introduce deep color into your home, skip this book and try Alice Westgate's "The Complete Color Directory". It's full of beautiful colors and even contains color swatches and how to's on using pigment for different effects.』
『Paint is an inexpensive, fast, and easy decorating tool that can transform the look of any room. This easy-to-follow guide offers clear instructions on how to paint a room, a list of necessary materials, and a cross-reference color guide to three major paint brands. The beautiful illustrations let the reader actually see the finished product, making it an essential resource for anyone interested in decorating.』
『Bonnie Rosser Krims wroteThe Perfect Palettefor those brave souls ready to try something that has daunted many an interior designer: painting the walls something besides white. Even though paint is one of the least expensive ways to change the look of a room, most people find those little cards of color chips too intimidating. Krims's 50 color plans are foolproof combinations based on the aesthetics of certain places and familiar objects, with very specific details to help you plan which palette to use with your furnishings. Each page describes a palette of three Benjamin Moore paint colors, though Krims provides a cross-reference to two other brands and urges readers not to feel limited to a particular brand. Accent and trim colors are suggested, and three adjectives are used to describe the mood of the palette. "Meet Me in Miami," a soft orange/blue/green palette, is "fun, easygoing, peaceful" and "works well in ranch houses, deck houses, and 1950s contemporary houses;" Krims suggests it specifically for brightening a basement or family room. "The Emerald Isle," a green/yellow/violet combination with accents of dark orange and white trim, is "sassy, lush, luminous," and will make darker wood furniture "look lovely."Color Palettesis both intensely practical and utterly lovely, and will almost certainly inspire some brave experimentation. No more boring white rooms!』

(spanish tiles)
『The whole book has nothing but photographs of
tile designs, and that was what I was looking
for. Our multi-disabled children are studying
Spain and we used ideas from that book to
paint tiles. Thank you very much.』

(Spanish Tile Book)
『This book gives a wide variety of authentic Spanish tile designs - with no writing. The pictures are printed on only one side, quality, hi gloss paper, and is truly a beautiful book - far exceeded my expectations. I purchased it as reference because I was designing a Spanish tile design quilt. Very helpful.』
Selected from rare l9th- and early-20th-century manufacturers' catalogs, the 97 full-color tile designs in this splendid collection display a host of patterns, many revealing striking Moorish influence. Predominantly blue, green, red, and brown with white backgrounds, the tiles incorporate stylized flowers, leaves, and other plant forms, abstract and geometric figures, stars, and suns.

("Readings on Color v.1-2")
『This two volume set is an overview of modern color theory. Volume two, "The Science of Color" is useful to me today. The amount of empirical data in volume two surpassed anything I had learned before, while the suggested reading list opened the door to still better sources of information. Volume one is less useful to me, on a practical level, but provided thought provoking reading. I favor Edward Wilson Averill's nonanthropocentric account of color, which addresses color as a secondary quality of objects. Where volume one is psychological, volume two is scientific; and though they address different issues, each book illuminates the other. I reccommend buying both of them.』
『Color is an endlessly fascinating subject to philosophers, scientists, and laypersons, as well an an instructive microcosm of cognitive science. In these two anthologies, Alex Byrne and David Hilbert present a survey of the important recent philosophical and scientific writings on color. The introduction to volume 1 provides a philosophical background and links the philosophical issues to the empirical work covered in volume 2. The bibliography in volume 1 is an extensive resource for those doing philosophical work on color. The scientific selections in volume 2 present work in color science that is relevant to philosophical thinking about color; the material is comprehensive and sophisticated enough to be useful to the scientific reader. The introduction to volume 2 is an overview of color science; the volume also contains suggestions for further reading.』

(From the Tea Ceremony to the Samurais.)
『A book of gorgeous pictures, however very little writing. It has the most popular colors used in Japanese traditional pottery, lacquer, textiles and many others. These colors are all used today, in every day life.』

(Handsome void)
『Gorgeous appearance, little content. Chapters organized by single color. I had hoped this book would offer some insight into the Japanese use of combined colors, which is so distinctive. Strictly for the coffee table, not a reference book.』

(stunning photographs joined by valuable text)
『Both at home and abroad, Sadao Hibi is known as one of Japan's foremost photographers, and his color studies of the details of Japanese artifacts, architecture, and gardens have appeared in numerous books. These books are invariably stunning and are usually bought solely for the strength of their visual appeal alone.

Now comes "The Colors of Japan," which not only meets the photographic and design standards of Hibi's previous books but also includes text provided by a distinguished Japanese scholar. That scholar is Kunio Fukuda, a professor of color theory at a Japanese college of art and design, and it is his writing--not previously accessible in English--that makes this book especially valuable. For readers familiar with Japan and its culture, Fukuda's text brings into focus what they have already observed about the Japanese use of color. Even more important, it provides technical information about the dyes and pigments available to the Japanese over the centuries, material not easily found in general-audience art books.』
『The Colors of Japan is a visually stunning look into the unique use of color in Japanese culture from prehistoric times to the present day. That the Japanese should possess their own sense of color is not surprising, for like almost every other aspect of human life, color perception varies from culture to culture.
The first and most fundamental reason for this variation can be attributed to geography. People living in arid lands will obviously perceive green in a different way from people surrounded by lush forests, as is the case in Japan. Geography will also dictate the materials that can be used to create the pigments and dyes to color objects.
Once geography has set the stage, other factors come into play, such as the direction in which a particular culture evolves. For instance, certain colors may be restricted to certain classes, as happened in the classical period of Japanese history.
A third factor is external cultural influence, in which the color perceptions of one culture are adopted by another as part of the ebb and flow of history. In the case of Japan, the first sources of such influence were Korea and China.
The Colors of Japan presents a crystalline overview of these three factors by means of discerning writing and stunning photographs. The text covers the four basic colors, the relationship of Japanese color perception to natural phenomena, the development of hierarchies of colors, the aesthetic of mixed colors, and the particular culture of color developed by townspeople in the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries.
The photographs range over a variety of objects, from the refined to the plebeian. There are lacquerware, various kimonos, combs, surcoats, picture scrolls, ceramics, sword mountings, shrine gates, paintings, woodblock prints, tea houses, a castle, paper stencils, fans, sculpture, umbrellas, screens, and human figures. Each is not only an illustration of a particular color as used in Japanese culture, but also a beautiful object in its own right. Nature, an all-important player in the nurturing of color perception, is not forgotten. The book includes lovely photographs of autumn foliage, a horseradish field, a pebbly stream in a temple garden, a tea house pathway, rows of tea bushes, and, last but not least, a tiny green frog.
As an approach to a different way of viewing color, as an introduction to the arts and crafts of Japan, or as a satisfying reading experience, The Colors of Japan is a book that anyone who possesses a aesthetic outlook on life will not want to miss.
The book includes full-color photos of the following:
Torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine, negoro trays, negoro sake keg, lacquered wood combs, textile designs and motifs, jimbaori (surcoat worn over armor), furisode kimono, Nachi Fire Festival, autumn foliage at Muroji Temple, Ban Dainagon picture scrolls, various forms of Imari ware, sword mountings, suit of armor, noren curtains, katabira kimono, paintings, Kyoto hills, various forms of Nabeshima ware, aizuri and other ukiyo-e, haniwa funeral sculpture, Jomon vase, tea-scoop and case, Joan Tea House, fireman's hanten, paper stencils, carving on gate of Toshogu Shrine, horseradish field, pebble stream at Shinnyo-in Temple, Fushin-an Tea House, ukiyo-e by Katsukawa Shunsho, ukiyo-e by Utagawa Kunisada using berorin, Iga vase, sanda tiered celadon boxes, Oribe mukozuke (side dishes), a green frog (aogaeru), Japanese zelkova bonsai, pair of six-fold screens, green tea plantations, tea in a black bowl, fans, Jizo statue at Meigetsu-in Temple, ikat kimono, uchikake kimono, Konkomyo Saisho-o Sutra, choken Noh costume, silk wrapping cloth, murasaki-e ukiyo-e by Chobunsai Eishi, sacred rope at Oyamazumi Shrine, annual rites at Hibara Shrine, snake-eye (janome) umbrella, dance fans, Kabuki actor Bando Tamasaburo, screen (Pine Trees) by Hasegawa Tohaku, Mino tea bowl, Raku tea bowl ("Ayame"), Himeji Castle, fifth-century gold seal, sobatsugi Noh robe with shokko motif, kariginu kimono, tachi sword mounting, gilded wood statue of Buddha Amida, Edo cosmetic set with tomoe crest, rakuchu-rakugai screen by Kano Eitoku, pair of two-fold screens (Summer and Autumn Grasses) by Sakai Hoitsu, dry lacquer flower vase, and ceramic box with gold and silver on black ground.』

『The book was new, but took a long time to get here. It arrived in good shape once it finally was mailed.』
『To the basic grammar of colour and form presented in the first edition of "Dimensional Color", artist/professor Lois Swirnoff adds a chapter on colour structure and expands another on colour and light. Exploring the interaction between light, colour and surface, the book should be a useful tool for the use of colour in architecture and design.』

(A Color Me Beautiful Concept Applied For Women Of All Colors)
『I bought this book more than 10 years ago, and it is still relevant today. There are separate chapters for women of various ethnicities, along with color swatches you can actually use as makeup and wardrobe suggestions. I used this book and Women Of Color (a book written by Carole Jackson's disciple) to do makeup and wardrobe consultations for my clients when I worked at JC Penney and Sears in the 1990s. It was extremely valuable. Keep in mind that the style suggestions are a bit dated because the book was written long ago. However, you can still apply the color advice in a modern way.』

(Pretty, But Is It Useful?)
『This is beautiful, and multi-cultural; a visually lovely book. However, it's light on style and wardrobe-building, and not terribly useful to an individual. Caucasian, African-American, Asian, and Latinas are all presented here, in their multicolored splendor. If ever a self-help/beauty book could go on a coffee table, this would be it.

I am only giving this book 3 stars because of its limited usefulness to a single person. If you're an image consultant, it would be much more useful to you, because of its broad ethnic scope. I'd like to rate it higher because it's pretty, but pretty doesn't help you find your style and colors, does it? I do recommend it, and would confidently recommend it to a friend - as a library book.』

(First Fashion Step)
『If you want to get an amazing grip on your colors, this is the book. It covers all skin pigmentations so you need not fear that it will only work if you are white. My only negative comment to the book is about the advice on clothing styles. Ignore it. It is a small part of the book so no need to worry. The color work is beyond phenomenal and worth the book's price.』
