(Well done!)
『As someone with an interest in healing through natural or spiritual means, I wasn't sure what to expect from Ted's book. What I found was a lot of corresponding and pertinent information that reinforce's what I have been previously told. This little book goes directly and simply to the energy centers and gives basic explanations as to the effects various colors have on the body. It's a good read for someone just beginning to delve into color energies, but also for those who are more enhanced. I have no trouble recommending it for your library. Jim Fargiano, author of The Spoken Words of Spirit: Lessons From The Other Side』

(How to heal with color)
『Great book.. When I received the book I was surprised that it was so little. But, do not let that fool you. For such a little book it is jammed packed with great information. I LOVE the book. I have so many book marks in it. Can throw it in my purse and go off and do a healing.
Thank you Ted for another great book.

(Wonderful Book!)
『There is a lot of wonderful information packed inside this little book. It is worth the investment to see how color actually affects our everyday lives.』

(Fantastic little book)
『Full of good things to teach you
and for you to learn.
This book is full of good information
for those interested in color and all
that color means.
Highly recommended.』

(Very Clearly Depicts Association of Color)
『Do not let the number of pages deceive you, there is a tremendous amount of information concerning color and the metaphysical significance. This work shows the application of color in several different ways to be used in spiritual clearing. This work can lead you to more in depth study of several disciplines. Enjoy the study.』
『Color vibrations can interact with the human energy system to stabilize physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual conditions. This book helps you develop psychic sensitivity to color vibrations, gives beneficial colors for over 50 conditions, and teaches you to balance the chakras, construct a healing mandala, rejuvenate your health, and determine what colors you need through dowsing and muscle testing.』

(Color Theory)
『Stephen Quiller is a master when it comes to teaching color theory. This is a must-have watercolor reference book.』

(Painter's Guide to Color by Stephen Quiller)
『This is an excellent book on color, very indepth and very clear. I've learned things from this book that I didn't know. I recommend it to anyone who loves color and uses it in their work or art.』

(Totally Excellent Analysis)
『Stephen Quiller's books,(I have his book on using Acrylics as well) are definitly the most helpful to me as I am attempting to take up painting again after a long hiatus. His color wheel is fabulous as are his suggestions on mixing results for different pigments, suggestions on setting up one's pallette, what colors are available in various named brands, etc. on and on. All of this information is for water based media, so if that is what you need, it is all here! One may or may not like his style of painting---it is semi-abstract with elements of realism that makes it appear more commercially appealing I suspect, but his color info is dead on! One definitely does not wind up with mud when following his suggestions.』

(Color can be everything!)
『Great book presenting a complex theory in understandable fashion! Quiller is an expert in the theory of color.』

(A Master of Color Harmony)
『Stephen Quiller is a real master of color harmony. I warmly recommend his book. He teaches not only the color theory, but also demonstrates how it works in practice with his own work. Quiller shows how to mix colors in real life and how to find out the complementaries. His color wheel adds the commercial names of hues that one finds in shops, which is quite handy.

Quiller will teach you not to use the "real" surface color of the objects, but to search for feelings and the atmosphere of the ambient. The leaves may be, say, violet and the sky yellow, if that is how you see them.

One thing Quiller misses to point out is additive color mixing like it was used by pointillists. When colors mix in the eye the rules of harmony are somewhat different.

If you are sceptical about brave color mixtures I recommend you to first have a look at Quiller's art at his internet pages.

『INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTIST and best selling author Stephen Quiller shows readers how to discover their own personal "colour sense" in Color Choices, a book that offers readers a fresh perspective on perfecting their own colour styles. With the help of his own "Quiller Wheel," a special foldout wheel featuring 68 precisely placed colours, the author shows artists how they can develop their own unique colour blends. First, Quiller demonstrates how to use the wheel to interpret colour relationships and mix colours more clearly. Then be explains, step by step, how to develop five structured colour schemes, apply underlays and overlays, and use colour in striking, unusual ways. This book will bring out every artist's unique sense of colour whether he or she works in oil, watercolour, acrylics, gouache, or casein.』

(An Excellent Monograph)
『This monograph was suggested by a friend of mine who is a very talented designer and photographer -- he thought it would be a good touchstone for my work. The book is a smallish format (8 x 8 inches) with color plates, one per page of about 100 images. It was published in conjunction with a show at New York's Howard Greenberg Gallery.

Leiter was best known as a painter who exhibited alongside Philip Guston and Willem de Kooning in the 1950's, but his real talent may have been as a photographer. Focusing on urban street scenes in New York, Leiter creates a highly layered visual sensibility -- not a translation of abstract expresionism to photography, but a style uniquely his own that defines the photographic medium in a new way. Many of the images look forward to the digital montage styles that are gaining currency today, but with a lyrical beauty and rhythm that speak to the humanity and drama of the street. It is unfortunate it took the world 40 years to appreciate this visual genius and rediscover what he saw.

A must have photobook.』

(A Master of Color Photography)
『Long overdue, this give this long over-looked artist a place to shine. The color reproductions are marvelous and have a woderfule bygone era quality about them.』
『Although Edward Steichen exhibited some of Saul Leiter's color photographs at The Museum of Modern Art in 1953, for 40 years afterward they remained virtually unknown to the art world.Saul Leiter: Early Colorprovides the first opportunity to see a comprehensive presentation of images by one of photography's great originals. Leiter moved to New York in 1946 intending to be a painter, but through his friendship with the Abstract Expressionist Richard Pousette-Dart, he quickly recognized the creative potential of photography. Though he continued to paint, exhibiting alongside Philip Guston and Willem de Kooning, Leiter's camera became--like an extension of his arm and mind--an ever-present interpreter of life in the metropolis. He sought out moments of quiet humanity in the Manhattan maelstrom, forging a unique urban pastoral from the most unlikely of circumstances.

The lyricism and intensity of his vision come into fullest play in his eloquent handling of color unequaled by his contemporaries. Leiter's visual language of fragmentation, ambiguity, and contingency is evoked by these 100 subtle, painterly images that stretched the boundaries of photography in the second half of the 20th century.』

『If you're like me, you love color, but sometimes have trouble deciding which colors to put together to make a really spectacular quilt. This book not only gives formulas based on a color wheel, but shows how to make your own color wheel and shows many examples of different color combinations. It is a wonderful resource for any quilter's library.』

(Excellent Book)
『This is an excellent book that I recommend for beginner to advanced quilters. It is easy to read with short chapters. Color concepts are demonstrated with quilts.』

I found it one of the most useful of quilting books I have ever purchased outside of the ones that actually teach you how to quilt. (MARGULIS IS THE MAN ...)
『Sometimes you think you can do EVERYTHING using LAB. NO you can't! Only 98%!
And Mr. Margulis gives you exactly the tools you'll need to start to understand about this wonderful world of Lab area of color. Sometimes difficult to follow ... yeap, but, things easy like for example, be a dummy ... run for president and win, everybody is doing! It's depends of YOUR efforts to get it, but HE is the man to tell how.』

(Absolutely a must for the serious photographer!)
『I just don't know about the low reviews on this book and fully get the high reviews! This is one of those books that comes along once in a while with such valuable information that after reading it, it will leave you feeling crippled in the digital darkroom without using the techniques contained within. The final output of my photos have improved dramatically by using the LAB color workspace and my understanding of the LAB color workspace would be very elementory indeed if not for this book. Understanding and implementing the LAB color workspace is in my opinion a higher level of education, and as such will require putting more effort and thought into mastering it. With this book, Margulis gives you the ability to not only understand LAB, but implement it very effectively and masterfully. Good work Margulis and thanks for writing it!』

(Excelente!!!)
『Um excelente livro para quem quer se aprofundar no modo LAB para fazer correções de cor. Como diz a chamada da capa: "This book will radically change how we do color correction". Recomendo.』

(Great, and it could have been better)
『Yes, the use of the LAB space is not so easy to learn, and it has many uses. Margulis shows these uses, but he is not the teacher who will make it easy to learn. Sometimes he dwells on the obvious (it is a great color space), sometimes he jumps over some practical issues.
The fun part is that Mr. Margulis' classes in [...] are really great. So, he definitely knows what he is talking about, but maybe a book is not the ultimate best tool.』

(A totally new way of improving your pictures)
『A fellow flickr member pointed me toward this title, when I asked him how he got such beautifully, vivid colors. The author is, prior commentaries notwithstanding, a master of words, using them to make a fairly complex and potentially dry subject quite palatable. As I am not an expert in photography or color management, I will most likely not use most of what he lays out in the latter chapters, however, it is not hard to understand, merely hard to keep in working memory. This book certainly does far more toward getting stunning pictures than any 10 volumes of 'Photoshop for ' and is worth the 30+ bucks I paid for it.』
『With a mantra like“There are no bad originals, only bad Photoshop operators,” you know best-selling author Dan Margulis is serious about exposing people to the magic of Photoshop. Nowhere is that magic more apparent than in its LAB color processing capabilities, which can make even the subtle canyon colors ofrock, sand, and dirt come to vivid life. However, you may be wary of taming the complex beast. Here’s your guide! In these pages, Dan shows that you can derive enormous benefits from just a few simple tools and techniques. He also demonstrates that you can take these techniques as far as youwish, employing the power-user features he describes in later chapters. Starting with canyons and progressing to faces, you will see just how quickly you can begin improving your images by following the “recipes” included here. Each chapter includes a sidebar with review questions and exercises as well as a “Closer Look” section that examines some of the principles behind the techniques. A CD includes exercise files.

(Not for everyone)
『This book is a very fun read, and I can't wait to try a recipe or two over time. My only criticism is that there are no recipes for redheads - there is a recipe for those who want to become redheads, however if one is a natural redhead who wants to color his or her hair, I fear one is out of luck. Thankfully (in this case), I'm a brunette, so I can actually use the book. If I were a redhead I'd have been very disappointed.』

(If I can use this book successfully, anyone can)
『I am mixed race (1/2 black, 1/2 white)with tab 3 hair (dark brown). I've used this book 3 times. Once to get the caramel color. Even though it wasn't recommended for my tab, I followed the directions *exactly* and got a beautiful color, soft and warm. Now it's winter, so I went darker, and did the milk chocolate with vanilla threads recipe. Once again, a beautiful result. Tonight I did my husband's hair, using the "Frosted Secret Sauce" on his tab 7 hair. He looks amazing, and perfectly natural. To achieve good results, this book absolutely *must* be read all the way through first. No turning straight to the recipes and jumping in headfirst. Successful hair coloring and insistence on instant gratification do not go hand in hand.』

(pretty good)
『first, i wanted to reply to Elle, who said that she got orange hair from using the 'light blonde' dye reccomended to get 'caramel'. i also did the same thing, but with different results. though my hair didn't end up a perfect caramel, it did lighten it up nicely to a color that i've been getting lots of compliments on. i never would have used that store-bought color otherwise, as my hair is too dark to go 'light blonde'. but, since my tab was in the right section, i did. perhaps your hair was too dark or you left the color in for too long?

so, while it worked alright for me, i did find the book less than thrilling. again with the protecting your hairline, etc... very basic. i wanted insider tips, not the ABC's.

that being said, i liked all the different color options and will certainly experiment with other recipes in the book.

overall, it's a good thing to look at in the bookstore if you want new ideas, but i wouldn't exactly run out to buy it.』

(Perfect)
『For the people who got bad results from the book, it is because they didn't carefully choose the right color for their original colored hair. You have to read the book carefully or else you will get the horrible results that they did. Like it says in the book, you have to find your OWND SHADE first. Anyways, if you read it carefully and have a little bit of imagination, it shares so many secrets. Lorri's recipes are brilliant.』

(Works better in theory than practice)
『I have never written a review in my life - but there's a first time for everything. I agree that this is a beautifully presented book. The photos look great and it all sounds so easy. It took me 3 days and visits to several stores to get all the equipment. Now, I am sitting here with the most obscene orange hair. I have an appointment tomorrow with a color correction specialist. Who knows what that will cost or how long it will take. So much for saving money doing it yourself. Take this book with a grain of salt. Be very careful as you proceed with her "recipes". I knew something didn't feel right when she said to buy Feria #100 "very light blond" in order to get "caramel" brown. I've learned my lesson. I will stick with the salon.』

For more than twenty years, Lorri Goddard-Clark has colored the hair of people from all walks of life—everyone from teachers and homemakers to some of the most famous heads in Hollywood. But while salon professionals like Lorri can achieve truly amazing looks, most women choose to color their hair at home. Now, in this inspiring book, Lorri shares her secret recipes for salon-worthy coloring andhighlighting techniques for the first time.

The Hair Color Mix Bookshows how to combine tints found in readily available home hair kits to create beautiful, vibrant custom shades such as:

  • Dark Chocolate with Deep Caramel Ribbons
  • Toasted Cinnamon with Buttered Lights
  • Spiced Persimmon

(A Great Find!)
『I bought this book as a gift for my wife. She loves the concept and the way she's been able to streamline her wardrobe and makeup. Colorful and simple to understand, this is a great book for anyone looking to revamp their wardrobe without spending a fortune.』

(Color Me Happy!!!)
『Finally, a book that simplifies yet amplifies my look. I now realize why staying within a certain color palette makes sense...thank you JoAnne!
I started with my closet. I removed all clothing that was not in my cool palette. I then took a hard look at my jewelry and accessories, and sorted them as well. Next, I tackled my makeup drawer. It wasn't until I went through this process that I realized how beautifully everything worked together. I had fewer outfits, but more looks! In the future, as I add new pieces to my wardrobe....you can bet they will only be with items that fall within my cool palette. My drawers and closet are now uncluttered, and I am able to quickly put a look together when I'm going out. I am also able to create fun looks with the use of interesting color combinations. Compliments???...I love them, but sometimes it is hard to keep the smile off my face. This color concept really works!
Color Me Happy!!!』

(Quick Change Artist)
『I really liked this book, particulary because of the simple and direct advice. It was helpful without being preachy. And most of all, unlike many personal appearance books, I was able to adopt many of the suggestions without looking like I should be prancing down a runway. A practical new addition to the Color Me Beautiful series of books which I also loved.

I organized my closet into two sections, my great colors and my not so great colors. And like the author said, I've received more compliments than ever. This weekend I am going to tackle my makeup and accessories!』

(A must for 2009 makeovers)
『This is a terrific read. Simple but packed full of great information. Like getting a years subscription to all the best beauty magazines packed in one simple HOW_TO manual. Loved the chapters on accessories and hair color. So few books give you any information on picking the right hair color, so this chapter was a real bonus for me.』

(The 12-palette system is better)
『I had thought this would be an update of the 12-palette system as explained in Color Me Beautiful's Looking Your Best (Spillane), but instead it reaches way back to the original 1980 book wherein Carole Jackson started the trend. Jackson herself, in a foreword to Doris Pooser's 1985 version of Always in Style, stated that her four season idea was in need of expansion. Pooser's response was to demonstrate how people can border on other seasons. For example, I'd be an autumn/winter, meaning I can wear those of winter's colors that are less cool, while in Spillane's I'm a deep autumn, sharing with winter the quality of darker hair and eyes. Richmond goes back to the four "pure" seasons and while it isn't wrong, it is limiting, and some people might have difficulty finding themselves.

Anyway, the book breaks down thusly: Chapters 1 and 2 introduce the usefulness of knowing one's color and explain how to determine warmth or coolness. The information is the same as in the 1980 original, but organized better and the photos are sharp. Chapter 3, laying out the seasons, is the one I had problems with as explained above. Her explanation that springs and summers are light and autumns and winters are dark doesn't hold up. Chapters 3 and 4 -- about skin care and applying makeup -- I like a lot. Chapters 6, hair color, 7, wardrobe, and 8, accessories, are okay but limiting. Photos and illustrations throughout are clear, but I would have been happier if she had shown more range in her models' coloring within seasons.

Of course, the best test of which colors are right for you is to check yourself in the dressing room -- but color analysis is good fun. If you wish to get this book, my recommendation is to get the others as well.
