(COLOR IDEAS)
『The book is okay, but nothing that practical. Took sometime to understand how to use it.』

(Save your money)
『This book contains 90% color swatches and 10% information. Really, how could anyone feel that they purchased something helpful when it is mostly pages of 20 different colors that one is suppose to rip out and put on one's wall. Swatches are for decorating/paint stores not books, or it should at least indicate this.』

(its about time!)
『This book is very thorough about principles of color- it has tear out color charts and about every conceivable color combination that will look 'smashing" together. I absolutely love it and i will be using it to decorate my new home- The author has simplified a seemingly complex visionary task to a method that is foolproof for getting that designer look. I would have paid over $ 300.00 for the book to have the information that she supplies and i would like to have more by this author . fabulous! thank you』

(Multicultural Ministry)
『As the subtitle suggests, "What Color Is Your God" educates pastors in foundational cultural understanding. Covering ethnic groups in America, this primer shows church leaders how to value cultural differences. It also highlights trans-cultural biblical principles and probes how various cultures apply or misapply these eternal principles in daily life.

Reviewer: Bob Kellemen, Ph.D., is the author of Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction , Soul Physicians, and Spiritual Friends.

(a brief overview...)
『A breif overview of how different ethnic groups approcah the Church and it's activities, but mostly focused on logistical concerns and not on worship style, faith, male vs. female perspectives, etc. within the different churches (ethnic groups). However, goo dfor group discussion.』

(Great Ministry Tool for 21st Century)
『I bought a copy of this book used a few years back. It was perhaps the best book I ever found in a discount bin.
I work in cross-cultural ministry, mostly with Asian Americans. This book was very helpful to me in the work that I do. It covers most of the races that are currenly in America and covers the strengths and faults that are in each of them. This book also tells what must be done to present the gospel to each of them without changing their ethnic culture. I think this feature of the book is excellent because far too often white America thinks that when minority races get saved, they must adopt "White Values." Not true! Each ethnic group in the world that has Christians celebrate Jesus in a way that is unique to their own culture. When we evangelize other groups outside of our own culture, when should remember this.
I'd call this book a must for all pastors, evangelists, and other Christian leaders of all levels in America.』

『A dynamic look at multicultural America, this primer shows ministers and others how to honor ethnic differences and avoid pitfalls when presenting the gospel.』

(Marvelously interesting coloring book)
『I am an adult colorer and have done dozens of coloring books, most of them published by Dover.

I am currently coloring this one, and absolutely loving it.

The pictures are quite well rendered by Marty Noble, an illustration of a Renoir painting fills each page. I am finding them easy to do with markers or chalk. I think an older child could also do these pictures, age 10&up.

The subjects are interesting, showing men, women and children in various everyday situations and activities from the time period in which these paintings were done--a mother&her children in their parlor, a man&woman dancing in a cafe, young girls in their pretty dresses, a husband&wife in the garden of their home, and others.

Furthermore, a small image of each painting is shown on the inside front&inside back covers of the coloring book for those who wish to make it like the original.

The title of each painting is given underneath the drawing inside the coloring book, together with information on the size of Renoir's painting and the year in which the painting was done, and a brief history of Renoir is also given just inside the front of the book.

Highly recommended.

Thirty full-page adaptations of the great French Impressionist's finest paintings for would-be artists to color includeOn the Terrace, Woman with a Fan, Luncheon of the Boating Party, andGirls at the Piano. Each painting is identified; all are shown in full color on covers.

(Comments about PHOTOSHOP COLOR CORRECTION)
『It's a very good book with advanced information for who really wants to understand digital treatment color in photoshop. But, one advice: if you don't know the basic about color correction, began by another book and a last comment: the images's quality is not in the same book's level.』

(Very clear and helpful)
『This book is an excellent source for understanding color science and how to correct color using Adobe Photoshop. It includes easy-to-sue methods and tips I found very useful in everyday image correcting.』

(Photoshop Color Correction)
『I rated this book 5 stars but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I rated it based on the authors reputation.』

(Great detail, hard to apply)
『The information in this book is very detailed and explains a lot about the theory of color and color correction. But, from a hands-on perspective it lacks the necessary information to easily utilize the information described. Also, it's almost impossible to read without falling asleep.』

(Some excellent material, but)
『There is some excellent material in this book, and if you read the book and follow the examples you'll know a heckuva lot more about Photoshop color correction than you did when you started.

So why not five stars?

I subtracted one for the totally unacceptable number of errors in the book, a flaw mentioned by several other reviewers. This book badly needed a technical editor - if it had one, he/she should be fired.

I subtracted another because although the book is very strong on working with CMYK images, for some (not all) techniques it glosses over RGB correction.

I would have subtracted another half star for the poor quality of the images on the CD, were that possible.』

It's always been possible to produce great-looking images in Photoshop. However,Color Correction in Adobe Photoshop 7.0makes it easy. This book is the distillation of color expertMichael Kieran'sten years of experience in delivering workshops on color correction and color management. It includes tips and tricks that will enable Photoshop users to improve the detail, color balance, and sharpness of any photograph, regardless of its source, by applying color improvements you can see on both the computer screen and in print. The emphasis of this book lies in its visual techniques, with plenty of photographs and screen shots to illustrate how color correction really happens. Readers can deepen their understanding by following along with the sample images provided on the accompanying CD-ROM.

『This book gives voice to the experiences of women of color--women of African, Native American, Latina, East Indian, Korean and Japanese descent--as students pursuing terminal degrees and as faculty members navigating the Academy, grappling with the dilemmas encountered by others and themselves as they exist at the intersections of their work and identities.

Women of color are frequently relegated--on account both of race and womanhood--into monolithic categories that perpetuate oppression, subdue and suppress conflict, and silence voices. This book uses critical race feminism (CRF) to place women of color in the center, rather than the margins, of the discussion, theorizing, research and praxis of their lives as they co-exist in the dominant culture.

The first part of the book addresses the issues faced on the way to achieving a terminal degree: the struggles encountered and the lessons learned along the way. Part Two, "Pride and Prejudice: Finding Your Place After the Degree" describes the complexity of lives of women with multiple identities as scholars with family, friends, and lives at home and at work. The book concludes with the voices of senior faculty sharing their journeys and their paths to growth as scholars and individuals.

This book is for all women of color growing up in the academy, learning to stand on their own, taking first steps, mastering the language, walking, running, falling and getting up to run again--and illuminates the process of self-definition that is essential to their growth as scholars and individuals.』

『The juxtaposition of ethnicities in the United States has had many repercussions, and confusion has plagued the scene. And, as with all issues of conflict, language can serve to clear up or further muddy the waters. In the interests of clarity, Philip Herbst has taken a scholarly, unbiased approach to bias, defining more than 850 ethnic and racial terms, including etymology, development, and connotations. From "Abie" to "Zulu," with slurs of nearly every U.S. ethnic group, ethnic euphemisms, and key terms in multicultural debates,The Color of Wordsprovides the wherewithal to understand the politics of language and the language of racial politics.』

(Great illustrations marred by poor reproduction)
『I ordered this book as one of several gifts for my girlfriend's birthday. It seemed to nicely suit her interest in fairytale illustrations, and after looking more deeply into the artist's work I saw that his compositions were consistently charming and expertly crafted. It was the perfect purchase... or was it?

In retrospect I should have paid more attention to the one critical review here on Amazon. While the illustrations themselves are beautiful the reproductions are perplexingly small in relation to the size of the page. Many of them look washed out (no, not because they're watercolors) and the details are hopelessly fuzzy and indistinct. It's no exaggeration to say better copies can be found in online galleries for free. While it's great to see some of these hard to find illustrations in print again for an affordable price, it's painfully obvious that whoever designed the layout of the book either doesn't have the keen eye of an art lover or just doesn't care about quality presentation. The work deserves better and it's very disappointing.』

(Excellent Choice of Art Lovers)
『Those who have fallen in love with Nielson's work will love this slim volume of illustrations. Each page is devoted to a particular illustration with a reference line from the particular story. Obviously bear in mind that this is a book devoted exclusively to the illustrations and does not contain the stories. An excellent purchase.』

(Breathtaking)
『This is filled with lovely illustrations, full of exquisite details and delicacy. I don't think this type of art provokes the emotions that Rackham's fairy tale illustrations do, but the pictures are absolutely breathtaking. I received this as a gift and I couldn't be more pleased to add this beautiful book to my shelf of fairy and fairy tale collectibles.』

(Classic illustrations)
『These Kay Nielsen illustrations from the turn of the century are so instantly recognizable in style, and beautifully matched to the fairy tales they illustrate. This book has none of the stories, so you'll have to buy those separately. Almost all of the illustrations are from East of the Sun and West of the Moon. If you like these Norse tales you will love this book.

The quality of the reproductions is moderate, but that didn't matter to me because the books with the nice old plates are expensive collector's items. At just a few dollars this Dover reproduction is very affordable. Maybe someday a publisher will reissue the story book with the illustrations.』

(Absolutely Beautiful)
『Even though I collect fairy and fairy tale items, and have for many years, I was not familiar with this artist. My husband bought this for me as a secret gift. Wow! From the use of colors to the stylistic perspective, this is so gorgeous! The art is exactly like fairy tale art should be, but it is also unique, spindly, wispy, extraordinarily beautiful. I loved adding this to my collection and I am now trying to find some of the fairy tale books the pictures belong to.』
Danish-American artist Kay Nielsen is famed for his versions of stories by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen as well as the Nordic fables recounted inEast o' the Sun and West o' the Moon. This enchanting compilation draws upon Nielsen's images from these and other beloved books. 59 illustrations.

(Sweet Book)
『I must disagree with the other reviewer who was put off by the phrase "Good job, God!" I think it's hard for some people to talk to their kids about God, and I love this book for opening the conversation and helping us begin to teach our kids about the our beliefs. What's wrong with saying good job? It's just slightly more informal than a lot of prayers we say! My 18 months old loves the pictures in this book because they're enhanced with foil and therefore shiny.』

(Not What I Expected)
『I thought this set of books looked really cute. Fortunately I was able to check them out at a local bookstore. I ended up purchasing the colors and shapes books, but later decided to return them too. The concept of the books was really great, but on every page (in every book), it says "Great Job, God!" That really hit me funny. If they had simply said, "Thank You, God!" I would have bought them all and loved sharing them with my daughter. I was really disappointed.』
『Keep growing in faith and joy through Little Simon Inspirations books for your child!

God created a world of shimmering colors!

"May you be blessed by the Lord , the Maker of heaven and earth."

More than 250 illustrations illustrate the significance and creative use of color in fashion illustration

From the first rough sketch pursuing the development of an idea into fabric choice and draping style, fashion design is an exercise in imagination and problem solving. When it comes to documenting the evolution of fashion as culture, we could safely say that illustration has become fashion design's number one ambassador, covering a visual timeline of materials, techniques and styles that have graced the fashion world over the past century. This book features more than 250 illustrations. Practical exercises will guide you through creative activities focused on contemporary fashion illustration. The exercises include suggestions and tips, and are executed by practicing contemporary illustrators. Instruction provided will allow designers to improve their drawing skills and communicate their vision effectively through a range of illustration mediums that incorporate color as a contributing element for both style and texture. With this special attention to color and how it is perceived the illustrations highlight how subtle nuances or striking changes can occur when rendered using different techniques in gouache, watercolor, pencil, pastels or digital, and how these materials can transform the feel and mood of each illustration.

(Timely and Informative)
『I first read this book for a graduate class in education, and I am now purchasing it for the second time. St. Louis is in the process of dismantling its voluntary desegregation program, and leaders are finding themselves asking the same questions they were at the program's inception. They are finding there are no clear solutions to the problem of race and equality in American society and schools, as evidenced in this excellently researched book.

TS Eliot said it better than I ever could: "And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." Through this book Wells and Crain provide us with maps for our journey of understanding the dynamics of race in the U.S. Our paths, their work illustrates time and again, are left up to us.』
『This study of a school choice plan in St. Louis, Missouri-which allowed black students to attend suburban schools-reveals the ugliness and beauty of American race relations. It describes the resistance of suburban white educators, the fears that kept many black parents from taking advantage of school choice, and the courage of black students who crossed the color line, helped by those white educators who saw choice as an opportunity to improve education and create real integration.』
