This is a beautiful, visually stimulating, inspiring book for anyone interested in color and style. Major eye-candy. I think they should have gone with a different jacket though. To me there are so many other more beautiful and interesting photographs in the book so if you don't like the picture on the jacket as the saying goes: Don't judge a book by it's cover. I'm a big fan of World of Interiors and imagine if you like that magazine you will love this book.』 『The Way We Live… series of books celebrates environments and styles of living that are parallel around the world yet somehow stylistically distinct from place to place. Proceeding from the general to the specific, the book begins with different styles and forms of housing and how these are affected and influenced by color. For example, the simplicity of white clapboard New England colonials lend themselves to formal approaches to layout and landscaping, while the lighthearted pastels of the Caribbean invite informal juxtapositions of style. The meat of the book focuses on how color influences the way welive room by room and how color is greater than just paint on the wall. Bright and unusual accents on floors, furniture, ceilings, and windows add to the total effect. The book then explores how varying materials and textures—metallic surfaces, colored glass, stone, brick, or wooden ceilings—open up new areas for exploring color and mood. The concluding section of the book is a rich sequence of images depicting how color is used differently around the world. Taken together, this book is sure to be a source of inspiration for anyone interested in interiors or decorating.』

Every profile has a picture of the real aircraft and also a description of the differences.
Bonus, you have plans, on the end of the book, for every version of this aircraft. 』
(Vasco's book serves as inspiration for modelers) 『For my money, this title provides excellent inspiration for the modeling enthusiast. There are a wealth of high quality airbrushed profiles (after all, that's how the book defines itself), and each is backed up with a photograph or two that allows the modeler to compare and come to his or her own conclusions. I find myself picking up the book frequently for ideas and inspiration. As for the criticism made about the lack of color descriptions, I think most people interested in this title (Modelers, Luftwaffe enthusiasts) will already be well versed in the basic colors used on German fighters. In sum, this book fills a void by providing lots of well thought out interpretations for the Messerschmitt Bf.110. However, if you want detailed specs on Bf.110 variants, this is not the reference for you.』
(A reply to 'Greg' on his review, from John Vasco (author)) 『As Greg says, the book is exactly what it claims to be. However, he is somewhat brief and selective in his overall description of the contents, and this is the reason I am writing this. The purpose of the book was not to provide other views and angles of Bf 110s, it was to provide colour side profiles of the aircraft, and for every colour profile, there is a photograph of the actual aircraft. We had to discard many excellent photos of other aircraft, because they did not give a sufficiently detailed view of the aircraft to be able to justify a profile. Greg mentions that the RLM colours are "...not called out...", and he is correct in this, but then there has to be some small knowledge of RLM colours for those reading and taking this book seriously. If Greg had read Fernando's introduction, he would have seen that full reference and explanation is made on pages 7, 8, and 9 of the various colours, and the times during WW2 when they changed. It would have frankly been tedious for the reader to read time after time in each page, 70/71/65, or 74/75/76, etc.. Reading a book such as this does import a certain amount of knowledge, and reading a review such as Greg's, one has a reasonable expectation that a reviewer would actually READ the book fully, and comment in a comprehensive manner. To say "...For a modeller this limits the usefullness of the book..." is, in my view, misleading to anyone who reads Greg's review. He omits to mention the fact that there is an appendix with 47 line drawings that takes the reader/modeller through every sub-variant of the Bf 110 from the 'B' series to the nightfighter 'G-4'. And, for the first time, we believe we have actually got the variants and sub-variants correct. His review is much the poorer for this omission, and does a disservice to the book, and to those seekig an objective appraisal of it. His last comment is "...the colour profiles are described in poorly defined 'shades of gray'. Perhaps if he had read the 'Introduction' to the book properly, he would have understood the reason why. For the benefit of anyone else who reads this review, I will quote directly from my text: "Whereas researchers can attempt to be specific, groundcrew cared nothing for such matters. Who knows how often paint stocks were mixed when a batch of aircraft needed painting and there was insufficient stock of the required colours on hand. Were greens topped up with other greens? Were blue undersurfaces topped up with shades of white or grey? Such variables no doubt came into play, but to be able to distinguish such nuances is almost impossible..." In fact, during my research over the years, more than one ground mechanic that I spoke to said that they quite freely mixed paints as the occasion demanded, in order to have the maximum number of aircraft 'combat-ready' at all times. I hope all of the foregoing, therefore, provides the reader with a more balanced, and comprehensive, view of the book, which I believe reviewer Greg did not do.

(The Messerschmitt Bf 110 in Color Profile 1939-1945; a modeller's comments.) 『Typical of Schiffer Military History books, the book is produced well, high quality is reflected in almost every aspect. However, the potential buyer should be aware that the book is EXACTLY what it claims to be, color profiles. There is not a single reference to any other angle, no top or bottom views at all. For a modeller this limits the usefulness of the book. However an even greater problem limits the book as RLM colors are not called out and the color profiles are described in poorly defined 'shades of gray'.』 『This in-depth work on the Messerschmitt Bf 110 variants B through G provides for the first time a comprehensive set of colored line drawings showing the changes as this Luftwaffe fighter evolved. For every line drawing there is an accompanying photograph and explanatory text. This work takes you through the pre-war period, the Polish campaign, the war in northern Europe and western Europe in the spring of 1940, the Battle of Britain, the Russian front, the Mediterranean theatre, Defence of the Reich, and night fighters. Lesser-known sub-variants are also featured, such as the Messerschmitt 110s used in transport glider-towing duties. A comprehensive appendix takes the reader through the changes to each sub-variant by way of cutaway drawings. The colored artwork by Fernando Estanislau is simply breathtaking, and establishes him immediately in the top ranks of aviation artists. A must-have for the Luftwaffe enthusiast and modeller alike.』

In this book the first drawings introduce BLANCO with white skeletons&masks, etc., that are used to decorate for a favorite celebration, the Day of the Dead. Those pictures should keep the kids turning the pages!
Then they'll see&read about verde, azul, cafe, amarillo, negro, ojo, oro, purpura. My winner is NARANJA - - ORANGE, even though it's the hardest for me to pronounce. It is illustrated with a boy surrounded by Monarch butterflies. They migrate to the Sierra Madre in the millions. THINK ABOUT IT ! MILLIONS spend their winters there&then return to the North.

Why is it so difficult to design and implement fundamental educational reform in large city schools in spite of broad popular support for change? How does the politics of race complicate the challenge of building and sustaining coalitions for improving urban schools? These questions have provoked a great deal of theorizing, but this is the first book to explore the issues on the basis of extensive, solid evidence. Here a group of political scientists examines education reform in Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, and Washington, D.C., where local governmental authority has passed from white to black leaders. The authors show that black administrative control of big-city school systems has not translated into broad improvements in the quality of public education within black-led cities. Race can be crucial, however, in fostering the broad civic involvement perhaps most needed for school reform.
In each city examined, reform efforts often arise but collapse, partly because leaders are unable to craft effective political coalitions that would commit community resources to a concrete policy agenda. What undermines the leadership, according to the authors, is the complex role of race in each city. First, public authority does not guarantee access to private resources, usually still controlled by white economic elites. Second, local authorities must interact with external actors, at the state and national levels, who remain predominantly white. Finally, issues of race divide the African American community itself and often place limits on what leaders can and cannot do. Filled with insightful explanations together with recommendations for policy change, this book is an important component of the debate now being waged among researchers, education activists, and the community as a whole.
