(Color Theory made easy)
『This is a good referance material for comprehensive study of colors. I find it very useful when I have to use complementary colors and choosing colors from different brands. The author did in deepth study on how to mixing different colors with various outcome. It helps me a great deal to choose the colors I want to use in my paintings.』

(For Watercolor painters only ;()
『Because watercolor colours name's aren't the same as acrylic and oil, it just doesn't make sense at all to me, and to say "made easy" I didn't think so, but i'm sure it's a great book for watercolorists!』

(An indispensable book on color theory)
『Combined with Michael Wilcox's book, "Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green," this book will help make sense of the enormous number of colors available to the watercolor artist today. Many watercolor artists recommend specific colors just because they've been using them for years, or they confuse the issue by trying to talk about staining versus non-staining, opaque versus transparent, granulating versus non-granulating. Those are all important qualities to know about a paint, but even more basic to that is what color it is and how it will mix with other colors. If you understand the color theory presented in this book and in Michael Wilcox's book, then you will be quite capable of creating a wide range of quite satisfactory colors from just a few well-chosen basics. (Not that you have to stick with just a few basics.)

What I found particularly valuable in this book is that the ideas *work.* I am not so sure about his theory about *why* they work, but the fact is that they do. The information in this book both overlaps to some extent and is complementary to Mr. Wilcox's book, so I highly recommend that you get both books. Between the two, you will have enough grounding in sound, applicable color mixing procedures that you will be able to confidently mix any two colors you want and have a very good idea what you will get as a result.』

(Great theory book!!!)
『I just finish the book. i am not a painter but this book gave the basic, and more, theory on colors and how to use them.
I study graphics and design in computers and today I can select colors and understand why i was selected them.
this book belong to all of those that want to know how to understand colors and how, for instanse, to make a deap design or how to manipulate your color in the artwork.
use this book!』

(Excellent book)
『This book teaches correct color theory and gives a great deal of useful information. The scientific explanation of cyan, magent, and yellow being the primary colors is very convincing and makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of practical information in this book. I don't know if there are any better color theory books, but at least this book is a good one and not a waste of money like Quiller's book, "Color Choices."』

『To correct the previous reviewer, these designs are by no means Russian! Neither are they Arabic, but, as the name of the book states, they are Islamic. The designs were collected in Central Asia area, mainly in Bukhara, the center of ancient culture, and are the great sample of the wonderful art of the region.』

(Oxford Dictionary&Thesaurus)
『Not good for a 6th grader. Didn't have any of my child's spelling words, child and I were both frustrated with this book. Don't recommend it.』

(Very Convenient&Easy to Use)
『We use these in a homeschool setting and we couldn't be more pleased. The print is easy to read and having both dictionary and thesaurus on the same page is very good. This is one of those books we'll keep using for many years.』

(Excellent Dictionary for Elementary)
『Last year, I required this reference book for my fifth graders. The students and I especially like the same-page layout for thesaurus words and definitions. Having the entire class literally on the same page really helps move lessons and activities along. Yes, I could have done that with cheapie dollar-store ones, but I've found those poorly printed and often missing some common words. I wish the price were a couple dollars lower, so I wouldn't feel I have to do an end-of-year "buy back." About two-thirds of the class did choose to keep their copies last year, so I have some used ones for next year. Other plusses: compact size, two-color printing, and bonus vocabulary sections good for quick "sponge" lessons.』
『The Color Oxford Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Wordpower Guide offers three books in one portable format, which gives authoritative and current coverage of today's English.
*The dictionary contains over 40,000 words, phrases, and definitions
*The thesaurus holds more than 65,000 alternative words
*Matching thesaurus and dictionary entries appear on the same page for quick and easy reference
*Ultra-clear two-color design highlights key information for maximum accessibility.
*Unique Wordpower Guide features a vocabulary builder, lists of frequently misspelled words, and collective nouns for animals and birds

Perfect for school or for anyone who wants to build their vocabulary, the Color Oxford Dictionary, Thesaurus, and Wordpower Guide is your own personal expert on how to use the English language to maximum effect.』

(Disappointed with the amount of B&W content, but information is still useful!)
『I have found Bina Abling's books to the most useful of all the different fashion sketching books out there. This book was a supplemental to my Fashion Sketching class, and it has invaluable information on techniques for rendering multitudes of fabric, designs details, etc. in full color.

As noted in other reviews, there was also a lot of black and white images for a book focused on 'rendering in color.' But I have found that a lot of the illustration work I'm now doing will be printed in B&W, so having Abling's examples of how to create color and texture variance in a limited color palette has really helped my art.』

(fashion rendering with color)
『Would have been useful if 98 % of the book was actually in color, not black&white. Was extremely expensive for such a short book printed in this way.』

(Childish illustrations)
『I bought this book because it had such good reviews, but I was very disappointed with the contents. The title is fashion rendering with color, but most of the illustrations are black and white (very misleading). Plus the illustrations don't look very professional in my opinion. If you have no drawing skills but want to become a fashion designer, then this is the right book for you. Otherwise, don't buy it.』

(Great for starters)
『Bina Abling's Fashion Rendering with Color is a great source of information and consultation for starters on fashion design, and drawing in general. I've just started fashion design lessons, and I do not have many resources regarding this specific subject in my country, so I turned to Amazon.com to find the best, and I did. I've presented a collection of 30 dolls, using some of the styles on this wonderfull book, and I'm doing great, so I recommend this book to anyone who is starting, or just wants to know how to render with markers, and other materials.

I hope you find this review helpful, and have a nice day!』

(A Reference to help teach the Designer)
『Rendering with Fashion by Bina Albing is a very descriptive and helpful illustrated book for all students. This book has proved to be extremly helpful to the new student in drawing and finishing a fashion product. It gives prompt examples to the learning with colorful examples to help one learn. Idealy all students should get this book for future no matter the experience already learned.』
『For one/two-semester, sophomore-level courses in Fashion Design, Apparel Marketing, Design Illustration, Fashion Advertising, Fashion Buying and Merchandising. This up-to-date text demonstrates with clarity and precision, the beginning, middle, and advanced techniques for marker and watercolor rendering for the fashion industry. Its focus and approach demystify the rendering process in simple, easy to follow step-by-step instructions--with specific examples that encourage practice and student confidence in either media of choice. A fundamental format builds on skill and proficiency, and it contains a gradual, natural progression of style into more complex and detailed techniques. This book encourages individual style development. This book has a notebook feel that makes it faculty/student friendly.』

『I found this book to be very helpful and reasonably priced. It is written for the beginner and intermediate, and is very concise. Good at many levels』

(Color Concepts Made Easy)
『I love Jan Kunz's style of watercolor painting, therefore, I bought the book just out of curiosity. I was totally wrapped in the book especially the demonstrations that are included in the book. Jan makes the color based concepts of hue, value and intensity so CLEAR that my paintings have shown new life since I completed her demonstrations. My shadows and light effects show so much more power and realism. I will definitely buy all of her books. Using this book for developing my skills seemed like Jan was right over my shoulder cheering me on to better and more impressive paintings.』

Everything's explained in simple language with hands-on exercises, easy-to-follow demonstrations and nineteen step-by-step projects showing you how to fill your paintings with beautiful color!』

(Beautiful)
『I went to see the photographer at a show and his work is just gorgeous. He uses intersting angles and if you like nature you will love it!』

(Great Compositions + Technical Skills = Superb Imagery)
『I had the opportunity of purchasing this book after viewing Mr. Cook's slide presentation. His compositions are fresh and inspiring, and he is a perfectionist when it comes to technical execution. I congratulate him on extracting the very most from the 35 mm Nikon / Velvia combo.』

(Best Image is the one on the Cover)
『Purchased the book because could not get out to see folige this year. So I was very excited to receive the book, but after viewing the images, I feel a bit disappointed. His best image is cleary the cover image, which is spectacular. But inside the images are not biting sharp, probably due to the fact that he shot it in 35mm instead of say medium or/large format. There are too many images of animals. I want to see folige and color. He also include images of evergreens during fall season which are ...green, and rock formations in Zion National which are pretty but they are not folige. He also like to shoot water falls with a slow shutter and again...nice but I wanted more color.

In fairness to the authors and photographer, the title is "Fall Colors Across North America" and not "Fall FOLIGE Colors Across North America".

I will keep the book because I love fall folige and there are some very good images of that but I would have liked to see 1. A larger book in paper size. 2. Sharper images 3. More Folige and less animals and water falls.

I cannot comment on the essays as of yet as I have not read any, that may change my opinion. Hope this review is helpful.』

(Enter All Parts of Nature's Fall-Decorated Cathedral!)
『If you buy only one book of nature photography focused on the autumn season, this book would be a superb choice!

If you are like me, you've always wanted to take several months off and follow fall as it begins in the northern tundra and creeps gently downward to the southern coasts of the United States. Mr. Anthony E. Cook has lived that trip for us, not once, but more than four times as he traveled with fall through 28 states in the U.S. and 7 Canadian provinces.

When I opened this book, I expected mostly to see variations on the familiar scenes of New England (where I live now) and California (where I grew up). Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ways that autumn touches the land, sky, and water covers an immense tapestry beyond my experience and imagination. The Louisiana bayous bring special perspectives that I had never considered. The stark rocks of the American southwest create fascinating interplays of light, shadow and rock.

Mr. Cook sometimes takes nature, and dresses her up. He has a talent for letting motion speak for itself, whether by taking a long exposure in a whirlpool or by doing the same with colorful aspens trembling in the wind. Some of the work becomes totally abstract in the process. Other work simply takes color and blurs it with motion to make the leaves, rocks, and water look like an early Monet painting of the shore.

With Zion, Mr. Cook becomes a surreal master, showing sides of nature that I would never have looked for in the fall season.

From another perspective, he also honors nature with formal portraiture. The book is filled with stunning panoramas that bespeak carefully planned compositions and being there for just the right moment. He climbed Mt. Jo ten times before he got what he was looking for. The patience of Ansel Adams comes to mind. The panoramas are double the usual width and require a necessary division by the binding, which seems to have been planned for in the composition so that little impact is lost.

Mr. Cook's talent for composition is best captured by his many simple still lifes with two or three contrasting elements. My favorite was a partially turned red maple leaf lying atop a variegated lily pad in the water.

A nice surprise for me, as well, was to find a number of dignified images of animals that I seldom see during the fall such as beaver, moose, and a coyote.

This work is also enhanced by a fine foreword by Mr. Art Wolfe, a wildlife photographer, who was trained as a painter, and by Ms. Ann Swinger who explains more about how the fall colors occur.

To view this book is to see beauty, to understand new aspects of nature (especially the way that summer and winter can tug on autumn in between), and to experience transcendence. The experience was so intense for me that I could smell, hear, and touch the scenes with my mind as I viewed many of the images.

After you have read this book several times, I suggest that you arrange to visit new places each year to enjoy the fall changes. You can get ideas from this book about places to go. For example, I had never thought about Denali in Alaska as an alternative but Fall Colors Across North America has captured my imagination in a way that no other photographs of that area have before.

Open your mind to all the possibilities!

『From the soaring scarlets of vine maples to the golden quiver of aspens, this book offers a stunning, artistic look at this most magnificent of seasons.』

(learn some spanish)
『Spicy Hot Colors is a picture book teaching the names of colors in Spanish. Each color is given a full page spread. The name of the color is mentioned in English and then the spanish word is listed as well. In the back there is a vocabulary list for words that kids might not know the meanings of. Also is a helpful pronunciation guide for the Spanish words that are listed in the book.
The illustrations were bright and bold. They went well with the text.
I would recommend this book to educators who are teaching basic Spanish. The book was very helpful in home school while learning the names of colors in Spanish

(A haunting presentation for young readers)
『From ballet to books: Sherry Shahan is a dancer/author who in Spicy Hot Colors is passionate about rhythm and here she incorporates the rhythmic elements of Latin American culture into a superbly presented bilingual coverage of colors. Illustrator Paula Barragan creates the colors, while jazzy poetry uses English and Spanish to reveal colors to the very young. A dancing, a haunting presentation for young readers.

『Colors explode off the page in this energetic, jazzy picture book introducing readers to colors in English and Spanish. In a style brimming with rhythm and syncopation, Shahan introduces nine colors by interweaving images and dance steps. Ecuadoran artist Paula Barragan's computer-enhanced cut-paper illustrations capture the rhythm and vivacity of the text. This book, which Publishers Weekly called a feast for the eyes and ears, received a NAPPA Gold Award.』

(Love conquers All!!!!!)
『What a riveting story of an era that I, too, was born into but on the other side of the fence than Gene Cheek. It makes me so sad to realize that I had the same sentiment as all the "rogue" whites because I was also taught to dislike those that looked different. And in my town the only ones that were 'different" were the less fortunate blacks. I am sorry for my generation and my race that this burden was placed on the Gene Cheeks of the US. I couldn't put this book down until I had completed it. Thank you Gene for sharing your story and again I apologize to you and your family and am so thankful for your Grandma and Mama---people that everyone would love.』

(Compelling)
『A sensitive and heartfelt memoir. I enjoyed reading the book. However, it is important to remember the Jim Crow South did not have a monopoly on racism. Racism is racism. I grew up in eastern NC, where my mother and father taught me to respect all people. I had an entirely different experience. When I took a job north of the Mason-Dixon line in the 90's, I could not believe the racism prevalent there. The difference I saw was the jokes and stereotypes and wink-winks were done behind closed doors. I was disgusted. Racism in the South during this era was ugly. But it was not restricted there, never has been.』

(Strength beyond understanding)
『I am a native of Winston-Salem, NC where the accounts in this book took place. It was so exciting to ride through the neighborhoods where Gene and his family lived. Some of the houses are still standing; I think I saw the house he grew up in during one of my "history searches". I thought this book was enlightening, refreshing and a testament that not all people buy into "traditions" their family's try to hand down. There are many people like Gene's mother, grandmother and step-father who are more attentive to how you are as a human, than what color your skin is and I was fortunate enough to know them and become friends with many people who shared this mindset. I enjoyed reading the touching story of the love between a mother and son, and although I applaud his unselfishness and love of his brother, I can't help but think that he might have been a little less understanding in real life. But then again, I am only expressing how I would feel. The campus I work for (mentioned in the book as Winston Salem Teacher's College, now WSSU), is requiring all freshmen to read this book. I am happy that they are. It is, again, a wonderful, yet painful account and it is history that needs to be told.』

(Absolutely the BEST)
『Gene's book is absolutely the best book I have ever read. He speaks with such eloquent words that go straight to the heart. He writes in his "about the author" section that he has "lived an unremarkable life" - as you read the book you realize the opposite - he has lived an exceptionally remarkable life which he unfolds for the reader with great authenticity and care. It is a profoundly moving book that is written in an exceptional manner. All you can think of as you read it is "please don't let this be the first and last book you write." For those of us who can remember the days of the very segregated South, this book will resonate with you. For those of you who are not old enough to remember this book is a must read, as we must never forget our history.
We should all be grateful to Gene for giving us such a gift as he has - I know I am.

(Important Lessons to Relive)
『I too was driving home from work when I had the good fortune to learn of Gene Cheek's boyhood experience while listening to NPR. In a world that continues to struggle with hatefulness, I encourage anyone and everyone to meet Grandma "Pearl" Anderson, Jesse Eugene Cheek, and the gracious, strikingly patient gentleman - Mr. Cornelius Tucker. The historical implications of this young man's socio-political recollection of pre-Civil Rights America encourages us all to embrace courage, love, and strength, instead of relenting to fear when confronted with difference. I've chosen to use this literary work in my Freshman English class; my students won't part with it. They have been captured by the emotion, the characters, and the voice of a boy who lost a portion of the child inside. Gene Cheek should be acknowledged for taking the risk to write and share this experience. There's hope, if this book is able to reach a readership willing to make a difference in the world.』
