(Love it!) 『This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's straight-forward, easy to read, and gives practical applications. Initially, I thought it was just a book about color, but it's so much more than that. It has both a practical side, and a metaphysical side to it. But what is so good about it is that it presents things in such a way as to 'make the penny drop.'
For instance, I've read over and over about chakras, but the whole concept has just never clicked with me. But something about the way he presents it did it for me. I'm really interested in it now because I get it. He ties it in with the meaning of color in such a real world way that it doesn't just float out into the air like some sort of esoteric babble.
He presents a variety of things, both practical and metaphysical. He not only gives interesting background on color and what different colors mean in different applications, but he ties it all into things like numerology, healing, mandalas, emotional support, symbolism, magic rituals, crystals and gemstones, feng shui&how to decorate your home, and color symbolism.
I just happened on to this book by accident, when I was leaving for a trip and wanted something to read on the plane. I didn't end up reading it until 3 weeks after I got home, but I then read it in 3 days. Now, to put this into perspective, I am not a reader. It takes me *months* to read a book -- the ones that I like. The ones I don't like I don't even finish.
If you haven't guessed by now, I highly, highly recommend this book. It's one of the few books that I am going to refer to time and time again, and one of the few books that I can't wait to start applying some of the things it suggests. (I already ordered three scarves last night -- one red so that people will know I am capable of being assertive when I need to be -- one with orange so I will be more self-confident -- and one with blue so that I will be able to manage my reactions to things better.)
Tomorrow, we look for a red blouse. ;-)

(Pretty medicore, sometimes awful) 『Ms. Hammond's pencil portrait book is not remarkable, but at least in that book she stuck to graphite -- not color.
This book shows a decided lack of colored pencil rendering technique. There are examples of awkward and somewhat untidy rendering coupled with mediocre drawing skills. This combination does not make for a good art instruction book.
Colored pencil can easily look messy and blotchy (or uneven) if rendered improperly. There were definitely some examples of that here. Also, one would assume that a portrait book would show, well, portraits that were well-drawn. Nope, not here. Some have misaligned features which are rendered with little sensitivity.
There also seems to be a lack of understanding about how to use color as well. Some of the shadows and dark colors are "overkill" and too harsh for the face.
However, to be fair, a few of the portraits were not bad. Some portraits used a deliberate "light touch" with a more limited color scheme (one portrait in particular springs to mind) and these looked better.
There was also little actual *drawing* instruction. Sorry, but just teaching the graph or grid method isn't going to hack it. That's just one tool used for drawing, and it very easily can become a crutch of that's all an artist knows how to do. What about drawing from life? How can someone use a graph or grid to draw from life?
I understand that the author is a very encouraging teacher and that's great. But my goodness! This certainly is not the best colored pencil book out there. A *much* better choice would by any colored pencil book by the fabulous Bet Borgeson. Now *that's* colored pencil done right.』

In that respect, it will prove as an invaluable guide if you are using Aura Soma products.
As for the esoteric information presented in this book - at times it is botched up and it seems that the authors themselves were confused. At the beginning of the book they quote Pelham stating that his work (creating flower essences) is not like alchemy because he considers "alchemy as something egocentric, for the alchemist sees him or herself as one who creates something". All that I can say is that the individual is truly ignorant of alchemy and genuine alchemists because the goal of alchemy is just the same as of any spiritual tradition - Self-realization, realization of Oneness with All, realization that all is spiritual and it is impossible to engage in true alchemy without bringing Spirit into equasion. Alchemy is about transmutation of one's "lower nature", or one's "mortal self" (mortal consciousness) into spiritual,
Aura-Soma system is, according to this book, conceived upon the Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah), and Vicky Wall, being of Hassidic background has some initial challenge naming one of the products "Christ". The authors took care to point out that this product is not named after the "historical" Christ, but after Christ consciousness. I may add that for some people this distinction doesn't really exist - after all, Christ (historical) did get the "title" Christ, as he attained "Christ consciousness" (a realization of Oneness with All).
There are many products which are named after an assortment of ascended masters (by the way, among others, there is also St. Germain, who is very well known as an "alchemist"). Instead of perhaps simply saying that the products are intended to stimulate the vibrations in the user that are represented by these "masters", the authors have brought in Theosophy as a "convincer" of the existence of the masters. While there is a rather lengthy discourse on Theosophy, there is hardly anything in those quotations said about the "masters" and I think that the best way for any individual to learn more about "masters' specific vibrations" is through personal experience.
Perhaps, they should've just left the products speak for themselves, because they truly are wonderful and they will work for you even if you simply follow your intuition and your inner guidance in picking the right ones. My original choice of products, before reading this book, did not change - if anything it became reinforced and I may add that I had many wonderful experiences with thes products from the very first day I began using them. The colors are feast for the eyes, and the herbal essences and scents make you feel as if your mind and heart, soul and body are nourished and uplifted. I've also had some very interesting dreams, so all I can say about the products I have been tremendously enjoying them and find that they have enriched my life.』

The flow is smooth and easy to follow. These history-making Latina ladies have already made their mark in American history as the first sisters to serve together in Congress. In addition, Loretta is the first Head Start child to be elected to Congress, and Linda is the first person of color to represent a district in Orange County, CA. Because of their never-say-die attitudes, I have no doubt that many more heights will be reached during their lifetimes.
Working with a professional author, made me think that this would be a well-crafted read, but unfortunately, it tends to repeat. Bob Dornan's defeat by Loretta is mentioned over and over. Their father's many difficulties as an immigrant in a new land, and their mother's remarkable struggle to gain her college degree and teach is referred to again and again. Indeed, it could be argued that this is a memoir of their inspirational parents rather than of the sisters.
That aside, it's a good motivational book, especially to anyone who feels as if she is struggling against the odds. I therefore recommend it.』
