(Colours of the Soul)
『Funny, most of us realize that colour does affect the way we think, feel, and react. We have that favorite shirt that makes us feel empowered or centered. We feel refreshed as we take a walk in nature. We choose very specific colours to decorate our homes to create a certain feel. Yet, we use that knowledge as purposefully as we could.

Colours of the Soul looks at the world of colour. It shows how different colours and hues can affect ours moods, productivity, health, and even help us find our life purpose. A variety of easy to use colour therapy techniques are also explored in some detail giving the reader some straightforward information on how to use this knowledge in his or her own life.』

『Colors are all around us, but also within us. We not only have our favorite colous, our auras have their own color. Our chakras have their different colors. Tuning in to our colors rebalances our selves with nature and each other. Finding our right color has implications for the way we dress, how we decorate our homes, even the food we eat. Use the color inset and the exercises in this book to find the right colors for you in different situations. Become color intelligent, and live a glorious life of kaleidoscopic color rather than a monochrome existence.』

(excellent book!)
『Shibori: Creating Color and Texture on Silk (Crafts Highlights)
I got this book several months ago, and I am still excited to open it up and review some of the things I learned. the author actually has a PhD on Chemistry, so she explains how the dye works on silk very nicely. I am a scientist, too , so this style fit my way of learning very well. i would recommend it to beginner shibori enthusiasts :)』

(Excellent book on how to make shibori)
『If you want to make shibori, then you should have this book. While you are at it, order two, one for the studio and one for the library. I'm wearing out my studio copy. Brilliant ad beautiful. Clear, concise information that will light up your imagination.』

(Beautiful photos; short on technique)
『I really like this book, but it is not a textbook on how-to techniques. It gives a good overview of dye and pleating methods, but does not go into the detail I would like to see. It would be difficult to recreate any of the beautiful garments pictured, using just the information contained in the book. So, buy it for the photos and inspiration, not as a how-to book to create the garments pictured.』

(Beautiful Photographs with Useful Information)
『Essentially divided into two sections, Shibori: Creating Color and Texture on Silk, gives useful information on Shibori and contains beautiful photographs of the technique. The first half of the book describes: the properties of silk; the different classes of dyes available (with recommendations); the equipment needed; the actual dye process and; the importance of color interactions. The second half describes specific Shibori techniques such as sewn resists, clamp resists and pole wrapping. The 2 pages devoted to "setting" texture seemed, in comparison to the descriptions of the dyes and dye processes, abbreviated and could have done with an illustration or two. If you are the type of person who wants the essential facts presented quickly, clearly and concisely, then this may not be the book for you. If you enjoy having an overview of things before beginning work, then Shirbori: Creating Color&Texture on Silk may be just right.』

(Shibori: Creating color and texture on silk)
『Real eye candy! Good information on acid dyes and an excellent chapter on discharge techniques.』
『Shibori is the Japanese art of what is popularly known as tie-dye. But this ancient resist-dyeing technique goes far beyond the simple craft that is typically used to embellish t-shirts. In "Shibori: Creating Colour and Texture On Silk", artist Karren K. Brito demonstrates the modern American rendition of shibori, or prismatic shibori, in which coloured silk is pleated and tied around a plate, then over dyed. Only the tops of the pleats absorb the colour fully so the hues shift to create a shimmering iridescence. The book opens with a fascinating overview of the influences on the American version of the shibori technique. Then, it moves on to explain other important aspects of this unqiue process. "Dyeing Essentials", for example, discusses how to work with silk and acid dyes, which are easier to use and more environmentally sound than fibre-reactive, vat, or the so-called "natural" dyes. "Creating Resists" illustrates several styles of resist, each of which produces stunning colour combinations and elegant pleated effects. Each step in the process is presented separately so that readers can combine them to create their own unique shibori designs. What's more, this wonderful guide brims with lavish, full colour photography as well as dazzling examples from prominent American shibori artists.』

(Surprisingly Refreshing)
『I have never heard of this author before and I had a chance to read one of her books recently. It's been awhile since I had a book where I could just sit down and read it straight through. There's always stuff going on and frankly, lately, none of the books I picked up captured my interest for more than five minutes, till this one. I picked this book up and could not put it down. It is also a lyrical read, full of lush descriptions of the lowcountry in the Carolinas and with summer in full swing here in Ohio, it definitely makes for one of the better summer readings around here.

The cons are few. It was pretty much predictable in places. I figured out the story line pretty quickly, but it still had a twist that I wasn't expecting. So that sums up the suspense pretty nicely. As for the main character's daughter, she's a little too intense for my liking. And perhaps a little less repetition of Jillian's fear of the dark might be better. After hearing about her traumatic childish fear of the dark five times, I get the hint. Jillian is scared of the dark. And there were several things at the end that were left unfinished. Maybe the author thought it wasn't relevant to the story, but to me, the reader, it left me feeling slightly dissatisfied.

Other than that, it was simply one of the few books that I just couldn't put down. It was such a refreshing read. It is also perfect for summer. I am now enthused to try her other books. Ever since Lisa Wingate stopped writing her Tending the Roses series, I have been looking for a new author to read. I think I may have found her.

(Read it in one evening)
『This book reels you in like a serpent. I found it jaw dropping and compelling and read it all in one evening! After I finished it I thought about it for hours and am still thinking about this amazing story!』

(Very enjoyable!)
『This is the first book I've read by this author and found it very engaging, hard to put down. I'll be getting more books by this author. Enjoy!』

(The Color of Light)
『I enjoyed the book very much. But! I thought it got alittle slow in some places,I new what was coming and I wish it would have just got there.』

(Spooky kid solves a mystery)
『Pregnant and freshly divorced, Jillian and daughter Gracie return to the summer home once owned by her grandmother for a new lease on life. It is on Pawley's Island that Jillian has both her most cherished and most painful memories, as her best friend Lauren disappeared without a trace 16 years earlier.

Gracie's apparent second sight divulges long buried secrets, forcing Jillian to face her greatest fears and befriend the guy who was accused of murdering Lauren and fled soon after. Now a successful architect, Linc has re-emerged, renamed himself, and returned to the island that he both loves and loathes. He is not prepared for the feelings that Jillian's presence invokes, and debates on leaving the past ... in the past.

Haunted by memories of childhood abuse and the loss of her beloved friends, Jillian at first discounts Gracie's ramblings about her imaginary friend (also named Lauren) until she realizes that there are far too many coincidences. New secrets and passions are revealed on the small island, as Jillian and Linc work together to discover what happened to Lauren all those years ago.

While the story is well written, with believable dialogue (thought Gracie could be grating after awhile), unfortunately, you don't need second sight to see where the story is going. You can pretty much predict the outcome, as it is really no mystery with all the foreshadowing the author provides. Despite its predictability, it is a solid and original story, with endearing characters. Don't miss "Falling Home" and "After the Rain," also by White. They are not to be missed.』

『At thirty-two, pregnant and recently divorced, Jillian Parrish and her seven-year-old daughter find refuge and solace on Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Jillian had experienced her best childhood memories here-until her best friend Lauren Mills disappeared, never to be found. At the time, Linc Rising, Lauren's boyfriend and Jillian's confidant, had been a suspect in Lauren's disappearance. Now he's back on Pawleys Island-renovating the old Mills house. And as ghosts of the past are resurrected, and Jillian's daughter begins having eerie conversations with an imaginary friend named Lauren, Jillian and Linc will uncover the truth about Lauren's disappearance and about the feelings they have buried for sixteen years.』

(A delightful coloring book)
『The best feature of this coloring book is the fact that the back of the page of each picture is left blank - so you don't have to worry about markers bleeding through.

I'm an older person and color as a relaxing hobby, however, I'm sure any child who is interested in fairies would likewise greatly enjoy coloring these pictures.

I only have a few minor quibbles - while nicely drawn, some of the fairies were a bit too thin looking and they seemed to have a tendency towards large feet, but that in no way takes away from the pleasure of coloring them.

The pictures are fanciful, featuring the fairies with butterflies and playing among the flowers, resting by a pool or interacting with an adoreable field mouse and that sort of thing.

Fairies never fail to engage the imagination, and this new coloring book promises to please everyone! These 23 scenes depict fanciful sprites amid the magic of nature, surrounded by flowers, butterflies, and woodland creatures. Colorists of all ages will enjoy painting or coloring these enchanting pictures.

(Great)
『Great basic book on color for any new artist or person who buys gifts for an artist.』

(Much better than "Art Class" - a MUST for artists w/poor memory)
『For those of us who actually want to learn something new, something you probably didn't learn in undergrad. Excellent refrence book for specific pigments and the results when mixed with others. For example, I forgot that when mixing Cadmium Red w/a blue results in a "brownish" viloet hue. Instead using Alizeran Crimson creates a much more desireble violet.

Not only does this book dispell myths, include historical birthings of pigments, give acurate detailed information about each color (including variations w/in each family)...it also has a chapter on "Creative Directions". This is a really great chapter giving inspiration for branching out w/your work.

I'm an art teacher, and artist myself. I don't have to the time I'd like to keep my own journals of pigments and mixed colors...it just isn't practical for me...too much to do, too little time. This book is amazing, perfect for the 3 second memory I have and much better than leafing through an ENORMOUS reference book just to remember which red to use when making violet (was it Alizeran Crimson or Cadmium Red)...

However, if you're just starting out in painting or you're looking for a sequence for a "curriculum" get the "New Artist's Manual...". It is basically this book and "Art Class" combined. Wish I had bought that one first.』

(AMAZING)
『Excellent! Well organized with great side comments, this book is really a journal for color. From its significance, invention and evolution into what we know today, this book is full of color information that is fun to learn. (not as useful as expected)
『I purchased this book with the hope it would give me some ideas on how to paint my condo. Unfortunately, I spent more time fussing with the pages so they would line up instead of getting ideas. I think the concept is good, but the execution could be done better. Overall, I would look elsewhere for ideas on painting your interiors.』

(Pretty cover, but totally useless)
『I ordered this thinking it would be a great reference book for quick color palettes. I am a paint color specialist and I think it is the worst book I have ever encountered published on color for your home. There are far too many choices for homeowners in here and the photo's to help you work with your floor and wall colors are less than inspiring. I would purchase Choosing Colors, by Kevin McCloud -- by far the best color reference book I have ever used.』

(Not as helpful as I would have liked)

As I stated in the title, this book was not as helpful (to me) as I would have liked.

The format of this book is as a "flip book".What this means is that each chapter has a specific color scheme and then you can flip the top or the bottom part of each page until you find a color combination that you prefer.

The negative part of this book is that the author shows very few "settings" by which a person can flip through. Therefore, in each chapter the same couch and wood trim are shown over and over again and the only thing that changes is the top or the bottom of each page. At first I found this was a bit interesting, but after just a few page flips I realized that I needed more settings in order to visualize each color combination. Thus, the pages are just too stagnant.

I paid full price for this book and I kick myself for doing that. I wish I had either personally reviewed this book first , or paid a lot less for it. So I suppose that if you can find this book for a cheap price, then it may be interesting to own. However, I think there are so many other more valuable books out there on the subject of "decorating&choosing interior home colors",that I would explore those first.』

(Interesting to flip through, but not very useful)
『This is a fun book. Kind of like the flip books where you make funny cartoon characters. But this is colors for walls, ceilings, and floors.
It's neat to see how different a room (same furniture) looks with pink walls and yellow ceiling as opposed to blue walls, green ceiling.

But while it's kind of neat to play with, I don't see how it is very useful. There are sections for living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. Each section has two different rooms - one more country-style decorated, the other a little more modern.

The furniture pieces in the living rooms and bedrooms are very neutral. Both bedrooms and both living rooms however feature light colored furniture, I would have prefered one option to show darker woods since that is mainly what I have in my house.

The floor color choices are not that great either. Not enough neutrals for the floor choices, since most people would be working with what they already have on the floor, and using this mainly to choose a wall color.

One of the bathrooms features a grayish-green counter and tilework. One kitchen has white cabinets, one kitchen has yellow cabinets. Those colors really affect how you see the other colors in the room. Great if you have that color already in your house and are trying to work around it, but not so great if you are trying to actually choose colors for your house.

So if you can get a used copy for not much, it is fun to look through. Not worth full price, unless you have a houseful of very light colored furniture or are completely starting from scratch.

(Not Wha I Expected)
『This book may be good for looking at changing your paint color, but was not helpful in picking out a new color pallet for a newly constructed home.』

WithThe New Color Book, anyone can instantly see what colors will work, and what colors won't. Ninety-six pages, each cut horizontally into three sections -- floor, walls, and ceiling -- can be flipped separately to instantly mix-and-match a vast array of colors.
