This book has turned out to be the most interesting and fascinating piece of material I've read in my life. It deeply explores both the additive (RGB), subtractive pigment (RBY), and subtractive process (CMY) theories without coming off dry at all... written very much for the average person. Even moreso, the big plus is that it sets aside an ample space for discussing the additive theory in regard to computer apps such as Photoshop and Illustrator, great for me, since I'm a Visual Effects major.

This workbook presents a diverse conceptual overview of color theory coupled with numerous studies and activities to solidify students’ understanding of design and color concepts through hands-on experience. This workbook combines both a formal and content-oriented approach to color with students, allowing them to use it both technically and as an expressive tool.
As a practicing artist and an art educator, Becky Koenig has possessed a lifelong desire to master color. She created this text to present a wide range of many color theories, rather than a singular viewpoint. The workbook covers the expanding field of electronic color and discusses color in terms of art history and contemporary art. It includes a variety of student activities that have proved successful in the classroom.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (KCS Fool's Gold) 『Fool's Gold Color Me Consumed is an excellent novel by Melody Carlson and the sixth book in her TrueColors series.
She created the life of a Hannah Johnson, a MK (missionary kid) who spends her first summer since she was eleven here in the States with her rich relatives. She soon has to pick between a rich, easy life or a hard working, but rewarding life.
Being a MK she grew up on donations and good morals, but once she begins to tag along with her cousin, Vanessa, everything changes. Having a cousin who keeps up with the latest fashion trends and would pay $200.00 for a shirt didn't bother Hannah at first, but she soon found herself getting caught up too. She had started as a God fearing, Christian girl, and as soon as she started getting wrapped up in earthly things she completely forgot about Him.
It seemed as if her life was going perfect-her amazing clothes, perfect boy friend, and really cool friends. Then one night at a party she over hears some of the richer girls saying some mean things about her and her cousin, that brings her back down to earth. She realizes that by worrying about her outward appearance, she let her heart grow ugly, not to mention the debts she racked up. To see if she straightens out her life or keeps living extravagantly you have to read the book for yourself.
I think this was an amazing book, probably because Melody Carlson is an amazing Christian author, but that's besides my point. Even though other reviews say other wise I think this was a really helpful book. When I was reading the book I was personally having the same problem, I was getting caught up in earthly things and to read a book about the issue I was going through helped me. I realized that the same thing probably happened to a lot of other girls and I didn't feel so bad going back to the Lord.
I won't say anymore so that you can read the book and draw your own conclusion. I'm not sure it may not effect you the way it effected me, but that's for you to find out.
I think this is a good book for girls who are getting lost in their own spiritual life or if you just enjoy reading in general. Of course you don't have to read this book, but I highly recommend it.
』
(Didn't live up to my expectations) 『After seeing Melody Carlson's books all over and having read some excerpts, I was eager to read one. Fool's Gold: Color Me Consumed, wasn't quite what I had expected.
The premise was decent, missionary girl, Hannah Johnson, gets caught up in the American way of consumerism. But I wasn't statisfied with the way it was carried out. Some of Hannah's thoughts didn't seem quite rationalized and the conclusion was very sudden, a blanket answer being provided. Sure she had to pay for the mess she got herself into, but it had a 'and they all lived happily ever after' feel about it.
Another thing I disliked was that the book at times had a very conservative tone to it, which I didn't mind, and at others, not such a conservative tone, as if it couldn't make up it's mind which it was going to be. In fact, a few of situations, especially where Hannah told the urban legend to her uncle, were quite uncalled for, in my opinion, and didn't even have any purpose in the story.
The book wasn't entirely bad, for it did leave me with some complexities to ponder over and study my own life, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it for others to read. 』
(Living the Life of Luxury) 『This story is about a girl whose parents are missionaries, and she goes and stays with her rich family. She realizes how money is not something you would want to deal with financially. Her rich cousin and her aunt take her shopping and get her new stuff. It turns her into a completely different person. She goes to some parties with her cousin and then her parents come back. Before they do she has turned back to her normal self. They end up moving to where she was staying that summer. My favorite part was when she finally decided that money was not fun to deal with. People who have issues with "always wanting more" should read this book because there are lessons to be learned from it. I did have questions like, "How is she going to pay off the debt that she owes to the store?" I found out she got a job and paid them all off. 』
(not a good book) 『this book was not biblical and could have been way better.』
(From Goodwill to Orange County) 『Many people think that it would be awesome to be rich and go shopping when ever you want. Wouldn't you? Well Hannah, whose parents are missionaries, is going to live with her aunt, uncle, and her cousin in California. Hannah doesn't have the best sense of fashion, and she doesn't care if she gets her clothes at Goodwill. Vanessa, her cousin, used to be a normal kid just like Hannah, but now she only wears the best clothing. Vanessa gets Hannah to go shopping to get some more fashionable clothes. Hannah ends up loving to shop, but will she stay like Vanessa and continue to buy clothing at the best places and stay in debt? I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Laguna Beach and The O.C. I would also recommend this book who likes the series of Diary of a Teenage Girl, and if you like shopping. I liked this book because I love to go shopping and it has a lot of drama in it. One thing I didn't like about this book was that they made fun of Hannah for dressing different when she first arrived in California. 』 『Hannah doesn't think she'll ever be able to keep up with the rich girls--but that doesn't stop her from trying. In the process, Hannah is forced to come to grips with what she values most: beauty on the inside, or beauty on the outside.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Beautiful whimsy) 『Jimmy Liao is my favourite illustrator and I was excited to find his book translated into English. I have seen the illustrations before in the Chinese book and enjoyed them on a visual level. However, having the text in English really brought the story to life.
The story is of a young woman who is going blind - it is an exploration of sight and how imagination can compensate for the loss of sight. The ending is inspiring.
This book would be excellent to expose children to a different perspective of the world and also would make a lovely gift for any adult who enjoys detailed and whimsical illustrations.』
(A Multi-Layered Book of the Journey Towards Hope) 『With allusions to "The Wizard of Oz," "Alice in Wonderland," and psychologist/anthropologist C. G. Jung, "Color of Sounds" tells teh story of a blind young girl who rides a vast subway network because "I have a journey to go on. There are some thing I need to find." What follows is a remarkable narrative about internal and external discovery, with some of the most luscious and creative illustrations in recent memory.
The girl disembarks at various subway stops (subway illustrations are always panelled strips running across the middle of a two page spread), and climbs colorfully patterned stairs (often reminscent of M.C.Escher) and arrives at archtypal settings: An apple tree sitting Eden-like in a verdant forest, alongside dolphis and atop a whale, a topiary-adorned maze. Jimmy Liao presents his metaphors on both adult and children's levels. While adults may recognize the symbolic conflicts and issues presented by a maze; for example, children benefit from the explicit text: "Sometimes the street twist themselves into a maze. But if you look hard enough, there's always a way out. Other sections may benefit from discussion at an age-appropriate level. At one subway station, there are four trains going in both directions, all filled with people, and all colored differently. THe girl stands between them, "Which is the right one? It's easy to get lost underground."
At his point, she seems to take her own route, riding a kiddie train (decorated with motifs decorated a la Guaguin, Matisse, and others), then abandons the train to a white swan swimming against a cloudy yet luminescent background (a mystically beautiful and serene illustration). She slowly arrives at her answers. "HOme is the place where everything I've lost is waiting patiently for me to find my way back." She realizes that because she "went forward, step by step, into the dark," used her other sense (listening "for the sound of colors I can't see"; smelling the shapes and tasting "the light and dark," and hoping for someone "who'll sit beside me, sip tea, tell me her hopes for the future, and listen to mine." (Here, the two-page spread depicts her sitting on a green oval-shaped chair, surrounded by four rows of empty chairs in various colors, shapes, and sizes.
Towards the conclusion, the young girl encounters a butterfly, whom she believes may offer the answers to her hopes and dreams:
She'll tale me to the friend I need to find. She'll lead me to the place where all the colors are.
she'll bring me back to the light that I lost, still glowing here, in my heart.
An enormously colorful mosaic of birds, flowers, eyes, and other motifs surround the now smiling girl, when Liao write "in my heart." It's neither saccharine or precious. While the book may be read at many levels, and it simulatneously present many emotions and moods (fear, comfort, solitude, hope, wonder) the overall effect is an almost staggering visual and narrative display of poetry. The undertones can be dark and may even frighten some children (know your audience), but for othos who have begun their own journies of self- and other- discovery, for those who feel lost or have experienced pain, poor health, or disability, this book highlights the fact and ignites thought of possibility and transcendance.』
(Power of Imagination) 『The reason I bought this book is I rented a movie called "The Sound of Color". It is a movie about a woman who is blind, strong, resourceful and full of joy. In the movie she teaches a man who becomes blind how to live and navigate around the city he once knew. The movie has drawings from the book and I became intrigued. The director of the movie told how he loved the book but it was hard to bring it to film. I disagree with him because his film and the book tells of one persons joy with the world around her even though she becomes blind and can't see it anymore. The beautiful ink and watercolor drawings with the powerful story will show you another way to look at your world and inspire your imagination.』
(Chinese Version is a little Better) 『This books is good in English, but I preferred the Chinese version much better. In English, things got a little over simplified, where as they were more complex in Chinese. I recently saw the Chinese version available for sale on the China Books website. This book is age appropriate for older children to adults, not exactly children. I wouldn't buy it for anyone younger than 10.』
(Beauty in our Minds: The Sound of Colors) 『Captivatingly colourful and creative illustrations combine with dreamy inner dialogue to carry us along on a journey of reflection, isolation, loss and hope. This book envelopes our whole family and sweeps us away.』 『In this breathtaking, evocative book, a young blind girl travels from one subway station to another while her imagination takes her to impossibly wonderful places. She swims with the dolphins and sunbathes on a whales back; flies through the air with the birds and travels to the station at the end of the world. Poetic text is paired with haunting and beautiful watercolor paintings in this incredible book that explores themes of overcoming a disability and the power of the imagination. the Sound of Colors is a magical book that will take readers on a journey unlike anything they've ever experienced before.』

I let them offer any "solutions" they think of, and they can ponder the story for the rest of the day. Then I read the ending of the story, where the problem is resolved, before they go home. This book gets across important life lessons in a very clever, non-preachy way. I've found it to be the perfect activity to start off our day, in the few minutes we have between the students' arrival and their first class. The stories are terrific, in a multi-cultural "folk tale" mode. You can read the additional commentary on the stories or skip it.』
(THE COOLEST BOOK) 『I have read this book more than I can count, and I learn from it every time. It really helps me with life's choices and how not everything is found in front of your face.』

(A good book with limited distribution) 『I am an author and often need information like this book provides. It is well presented and had a wealth of horse breeding information.』
(Horse colors explained) 『Excellent book with great photos and genetics easily explained. Wish I had it when I was breeding a lot of horses. Using it just for info now but recommending it to a lot of people.』
(Good for beginners) 『This is a good beginner guide to equine color genetics. If you do not have any background in color breeding, this is an excellent place to start. I do think that they leave out some technical information that is very relevant and important for in-depth study, but if you are a recreational horse owner interested in experimenting with color breeding, you will find everything you need in this book. On the other hand, if you are a geneticist, research scientist, horse breeder, or have extensive knowledge about genetics and breeding, this book is a bit too basic for your needs. A fun, informative, and casual read for recreational horse owners/breeders; not recommended for scientists or professional breeders.』
(This book covers more than an equine genetics class!) 『I have studied Equine Genetics and done some research in the field, this book is my "pocket reference", it really lays out genetics in simple terms without taking away the important facts. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know anything about horse coat color. It gives you a bunch of helpful facts.』 『

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Buy it for the paintings, not the info) 『This book is gorgeously illustrated by Darol Dickenson, one of the finest horse painters in the business. The text, however, leaves something to be desired. The information is so outdated that for the most part I wouldn't bother reading it except for entertainment value. Since it was written around the time I was born, I'm not suprised. Give him credit, he tried to do it scientifically, but science has taken great leaps and bounds since this was written, and much, much more is known about how color inheritance works in the horse. So buy it for the paintings, take them out and frame them even, but forget about learning anything accurate and of value pertaining to how horse color inheritance works. 』
(Gorgeous paintings, but not much else to offer.) 『The "scientific" information given in the book is grievously outdated and has long since been proven incorrect. It is also fairly incomplete - no cremello, perlino or silver dapple for example, and no composite dilute colors, such as the horse that may carry both a creme gene and a dun gene. The paintings are beautiful, however. There is great temptation to take the paintings out to have framed. ;) People wishing to learn more about equine coat colors, especially the genetics aspect of things, would be better served by buying Sponenburg or Bowling's book - or even stopping by the UC Davis website, which has a nice section on coat color genetics. (A search on any of the major search engines will bring up the exact address). Jeanette Gower's 'Horse Color Explained' is also a decent book, altough it can be confusing since it was written from an Austrailian perspective.』
(It's all about color!) 『I have owned this book for many years and refer to it on occasion for information or just read it for fun. I like it for the entertaining way in which it was written and also for the information on horse color. Locally any brown horse is called sorrel around here so it is interesting to see what color a sorrel horse really is. Yes the horse paintings are really beautiful and well worth the price of the book. I find Dr Greens information valuable and admit I have bought most of my horses through the years remembering his advise about color even though I live in the midwest not in the south.』
(2 Stars for the pretty pictures) 『for the text, no stars. Under the heading 'Palomino' is written..'Pigmentation continues to diminish when dilutes are continuously bred to each other, and the hide of each generation will be less durable and useful until, in a few generations, it finally becomes albino'. Well, this is news to me. Palomino breeders will love it, I'm sure, especially as is also written..'Dilutes are undesirable colors in a horse intended for useful purposes'.
I would take the contents of this books with more than 'a pinch of salt', but it makes fun reading.』
(Should be a part of any horse owner's library) 『In Color Of Horses, Darol Dickinson's outstanding illustrations pairs R. Green's descriptions of various horse breeds and characteristics with detailed descriptions of color and over thirty reproductions of oil paintings by western artist Dickinson. The result is an excellent basic visual guide which should be a part of any horse owner's library.』
IPhone 3G used's review (Buy this best book about grasses) 『I think you must buy this excellent book about grasses with a lot of good photos.』
(Masterful, Encyclopedic Guide Full of Helpful Photos) 『Rick Darke's book is typical of his work. It is extremely well written, a detailed, very thorough guide to ornamental grasses, full of helpful pictures as well as information on growing and maintaining grasses. This book should be a classic for decades to come.』
(Absolutely Fantastic) 『This is such a wonderful informational book... AND ... a gorgeous coffee table book. It is terrific from beginning to end! If you like or are interested in, or even thinking about Ornamental Grasses ... then THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU! I can't imagine anyone who has an interest in Ornamental Grasses NOT LOVING THIS BOOK, and would be delighted they purchased it. My only concern is that it is going to look dog-earred from my reading it over and over and over again ... which frankly takes away from its beauty on our coffee table.』
(Buy 2 copies...) 『This book is structured, written, photographed and edited with parallel purpose and effect: communication of the author's respect and regard for the book's subject and for its readers. Mr. Darke sets out to inform and does so with enconomy but in full course; when he instructs, he teaches the novice and gives pause to the critic; when he photographs he shows his passion and inspires with the nature and wonder of his subjects. The book is encyclopedic, yet its prose is always to the point with the agreeable dryness of a good, well-bodied wine. Credible, trustworthy, enlightening. This is the best gardening book I have ever read. Negatives? Only one: Mr. Darke's standards are unimpeachable; those of the book's typographer and designer, however, are not.』
(Excellent information, awesome photographs) 『Excellent and complete information about ornamental grasses. A great book.
Thirty pages on the botany, anatomy, and classification of grasses. Twenty pages on native habitat, thirty pages on designing with grasses, and twenty pages of growing and propagating grasses. 170 page encyclopedia listing 400+ species / varieties of grasses. In the back of the book, you find a 2 page glossary, 5 page bibliography, 2 page grass nursery listing, USDA and European hardiness maps, and a complete index of all grasses by common name. Very complete book.
As a bonus, the book is also filled with awesome photography.
If you garden with ornamental grasses, this book is a must buy. Excellent information, well worth the money!』
『This encyclopedia by a distinguished American horticulturist is the most authoritative and best-illustrated reference ever published on ornamental grasses. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Classic Piers Anthony Xanth) 『Just as with all his other Xanth novels, Piers Anthony gets a 100% from me!!』
(This is why I don't re-read things from childhood) 『Oh, Xanth, how I liked you when I was 10. Of course (not to show my age), that was early on in the series, as well. So why, you may ask, did I read this book? It's a long story, but I was told by someone in my book group that they'd read it and it was a novel about a skeevy old man and a young girl and that it had made them never want to read anything by the author again. I couldn't imagine it, so I went ahead and read it. And, okay, the title is a bit weird, but it's not that at all. It's classic over-punned Xanth at its wackiest.
And while there are some adult-oriented jokes and much talk of undergarments, there's nothing particularly shocking or horrible... except, perhaps, some of the puns. Those they could stand to lose. At least half of them. Three quarters, even. I realized they are the hallmarks of the Xanth universe, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Though without any it'd be another boring, run-of-the-mill wacky fantasy quest novel. So it's a balancing act, and it seems to, in this novel, have all the grace of a humpbacked whale on roller skates, competing in a roller derby.
Bottom line is it's fantasy quest fluff wrapped in far too much that tries far too hard to be clever and ends up being a bit of a slog. Unless you are 10, I'd seriously suggest his other series, the Incarnation of Immortality. Or chuck the whole lot in and read Pratchett's Discworld series.』
(Not one of his best, but keep reading) 『This Xanth book is really not one of the best , but as a whole they are great. If you are a fan, read this one and keep going. It is as entertaining as some of the previous ones, even though you don't want anyone siting next to you on the plane to see the title of the book! Bad title ok story. When you write 30 plus books in a series, they won't all be great, but I intend to finish them all and this is only half way there!!!』
(Up in a Heaval (Xanth Series)) 『Very entertaining. I love the Xanth series.Up In a Heaval: A Xanth Novel (Xanth)』
(More trashy Anthony) 『Any fantasy fan with half an ounce of sense has known to steer clear of Antony for a long time, but no book has made the reason why as blatently clear as this one.
Anthony's creepy panty fetish is very blatent to anyone who has ever read a Xanth book, but not until now has he made an ENTIRE masturbatory work dedicated to it.
Not even the most rabid pun will be able to derive the slightest enjoyment from this. It's a whumsical romp through Anthony's perverted mind that will disgust you at best and fill you with revulsion at worst.
Although, really, the title and cover could have told you everything I just told you. I don't even know why I picked this one up.』 『
