(A class above others)
『I used this in medical school and it saved me. The dissections are amazing quality and are truly a form of art in themselves. I sold it off as a poor medical student but now that I am an attending ObGyn will be buying it again to teach my residents anatomical landmarks. If you use this for med school hold on to it for your clerkships - review relevant anatomy before every surgical rotation and use this book to help. You will find yourself coming to this again and again.』

(Best Study Aid Ever)
『This book is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it for any anatomy student with lab practicals. Rather than having to find a partner, drive to the school, and sit in the lab with a bone box, I was able to study by myself in my own living room. I would not be without it!』

(This book is awesome)
『Everyone should buy this. It's way better than Netter's and is great to review before and after a gross anatomy lab.』

(best atlas, has nothing on netter's)
『everyone raves about netters but last i checked the human body was actually a confusing mass of vessles, nerves and muscles and not picture perfect. yokochi's photographs help you get ready for any lab practical, show multiple views of everything and it's really great b/c if the axillary artery shows up every time the thorax is being shown, even if it's just off to the side in the arm, it's labeled every time, from every angle. that's the best part, multiple views and nothing is left out just because it doesn't fit into the section, it it's there, it's labeled.』

(Fantastic for med students)
『This book is a med student's best friend. I was having a difficult time learning anatomy from Netter, and hated spending time in the cadaver lab, so this book really saved me. I also like how the labels are numbered, with the answers on the bottom of the page, so you can cover them and quiz yourself.』
This atlas includes full-color photographs of actual cadaver dissections instead of idealized illustrations, to accurately and realistically represent anatomical structures. Often used by students as an alternative or supplement to their lab experience, and as an introduction to exactly what they should see before they dissect, as well as a study aid before practical/identification exams.

(Yes, TOTALLY NOT UPDATED BUT....)
『YESSSSSSSS! This book is old, from the 80's, the author could've blah, bøah, blah!
In my opinion, this is a great book, the colors are the same everywhere, red is red, blue is blue, pink is pink... it's a great book. It has a questionary in which put you in a cathegory, you might find it a little bit hard, but if you follow the authors instructions you'll get your color cathegory (get a friend, your hubby or mom/sister!)
It also discuss the art of optic illusions to look taller, shorter, thinne, etc; and has a great simple makeup area too (as a makeup artist, this is extremely well explained!)

(A good standard reference, helpful and meaningful advice)
『As a middle-aged transgendered woman, I know I do not fit the standard reader. But I found this book immensely helpful in discerning subtle color issues I had been guessing at. Ms. Jackson speaks to the reader in a quiet yet directive way, guiding the decisions to find colors best suited in clothing, hair and make-up. This book exceeded my expectations in providing nonjudgmental guidance toward understanding my own coloration and to developing a "feel" for my true color nature. I recommend this book to anyone who feels challenged by all the palettes and textures and cuts available in today's world. Though written years ago, her sensibility toward style seems timeless. I got lost a couple of times in her wording, but realized I was just needing to reread to get her meaning. I felt very empowered by this book and believe other inexperienced girls like myself will be as well.

Best wishes,
paige』

(Eighties Flashback Good For Laughs)
『This is truly a weird book. Are you winter, spring, summer, or fall? Carole Jackson, with a Dorothy Hamill haircut in evidence, proceeds to group women into one four seasons, each with its own rigid color palette. Do you wear black? Forget it unless you're a "winter". Redheads(falls) can only wear olive green, orange, or yellow. Yikes! Try to figure out what season you are. It's not always clear, which seems a bit flawed. This seemed to have a fair amount of marketing involved. I think they had their own makeup line at one time. Anyway, it's good for a few laughs. I think most adults know what colors look good on them, and what you feel the best in.』

(This book takes me back)
『I love this book. My grandmother gave me this book when I was about 10 or so. She had it and thought I might be interested. I looked at this book so many times when I was a teenager that it eventually fell apart. I know I am a cool, but I have never been absolutely sure which season I am, but I love this book for many reasons. Even though it is way before my time (I am only 27), it still has a lot of cool tricks and ideas for boosting your skin tone. The color guides for each season are very helpful as well. It gives a very specific list of colors for each. This book is a great reference for determining a color palette that works for your coloring. In response to another comment, I agree color choices are largely based on instinct and emotional response. However, I have found that a lot of the colors I am naturally drawn to are suitable colors for a cool complexion. Try this book. It is really cheap and has a lot of good information. Trends, styles and looks change throughout the years, but it still is a great resource for putting together a cohesive and complimentary look. Hey, a lot of things from the eighties are coming back!!』

(Still relevant after all these years ...)
『[***** = breathtaking, **** = excellent, *** = good, ** = flawed, * = bad]

Well, you may laugh and think of this book as too-1980s! (I think it's first date of publication was 1981.) But unlike big hair and shoulder-pads, this method of determining one's personal colors stands the test of time. (The actual styles recommended in the wardrobe section are outdated, but the color information and photographs make up for this.)

Basically there's four color-groupings named after the four seasons. To find out which group you fall into, have a good look at the color of your hair and eyes. Also, try putting a white sheet of paper under your wrist for a neutral background while you determine whether or not you have a blue- or a gold-undertone to your skin.

This works for all ethnic groups, which are dispersed fairly evenly across the four groupings. What works for your sister or mother might not work for you. Once you're familiar with the color diagnosing you can always use it to help the men in your life shop.

Winters and Summers have a blue-undertone to their skin and look good in silver-toned jewelry. Winters look good in deep, clear colors like black, navy-blue, true red, and pure white. Summers get a lot of blue-gray and rose tones. Autumns and Springs have a gold-undertone to their skin and look good in gold-toned jewelry. Autumns look good in earth tones, and Springs get a lot of off-white, ivory, and pastel.

I'm simplifying greatly; it's best to have a look at the photographs in the book which are amazingly convincing. Especially the ones that have the models dressed in the "right" and "wrong" colors so you can see the difference. Don't bother to buy the hideously expensive color-swatches offered separately from the book as an aid to on-the-spot shopping: the excellent photographs are good enough.』

『Using simple guidelines, professional color consultant Carole Jackson helps you choose the thirty shades that make you look smashing. COLOR ME BEAUTIFUL will also help you: develop your color personality; learn to perfect your make-up color; discover your clothing personality; use color to solve specific figure problems, and more, including full-color palettes containing the thirty shades for each season--pages you can cut out to carry when you shop!』

(Confident Color)
『I have spent the week-end feasting on Nita's new book Confident Color. I am excited and inspired as I go from chapter to chapter in this book. Nita has done it again! She tells it all, and in a way that relates to each one of us. I love the format of this book - easy reading - takes you right in and makes you a part of the process. Each page is loaded with exciting information and a "Try it" portion to include you in the journey. I can't wait to get started on my own color swatches. I have already prepared a box and sample cards to get started. This book is for the beginner and advanced alike. All of the Artist's works included in this book are examples on what Nita is explaining in the process. I would highly recommend this book to all Artists who are interested in perfecting their skills and would like to learn to use color with confidence. I certainly do.

(Help for the color impaired!)
『I've always had problems with color in my paintings. I don't seem to have a color sense so my work BCC (Before Confident Color) didn't always have the most harmonious color. However, after reading Confident Color I have a much better understanding of how color can create an effective painting. Using examples from a wide variety of artists, the book breaks down the colors used and explains why these color combinations are so effective. It also presents different types of color wheels to give the artist a wide range of harmonious color ideas to work with. By using the color information in this book, you can express mood and pull more viewer interest. What's really nice is that the author uses work by both well-known artists and those who aren't well-known -- but all are excellent at what they do. The book would be good for quilters and fabric artists as well, or indeed anyone who wants a better understanding of color theory.』
『The approach to color theory in Confident Color makes selecting colors easy and efficient. Readers will learn the importance of color schemes and color contrasts and how to use them effectively when painting. They will learn how to create a color scheme or palette for their paintings, as well as how to use similar colors, contrasting colors, neutrals and complements to take their compositions to new heights. A lively illustrated color glossary provides a refresher on color basics so that the reader can focus on more complex theories.

Alleviates the struggle artists have when determining color combinations by providing 7 step-by-step demonstrations that show how to select and make color schemes, color contrasts, compatible colors and more.

Includes an assortment of work from 52 contributing artists using a variety of mediums.』

(Students #1 choice!)
『Two Literacy Students at the Aguilar Language Learning Center (of the New York Public Library) recently read this book in their tutoring group and wrote these reviews:

MARIA LOPEZ
This book made me laugh, made me feel sad, and broke my heart. I found the book fascinating. It was a great read. One of my favorite passages was the description of Ruth riding her bicycle. One part that made me laugh and laugh was when Ruth and Mary got boyfriends. I also love when Ruth disappeared for a few days and went to Brooklyn to visit her old friends.

I loved the chapter about Chicken Man. James thought he was smarter than people thought. That is true. He is very smart! Also, I was very sad to read about how James acted as a teenager. I think that he must have felt very lonely.

I really enjoyed reading The Color of Water. I have never read a book like it before. I learned a lot about different cultures and the value of family.

MARIAME TRAORE
I recommend The Color of Water by James McBride because it teaches us about family values and culture. James McBride was raised with many brothers and sisters in the early 60¹s by his white mother. As a child, McBride always questioned why he and the rest of his family look different from his mother. As he got older he found out the truth and learned to respect his family and his culture.

(Allen Hoage's Review)
『Take a minute for yourself and your family and please read The Color of Water. What you can learn from this book expert in a few minutes is that the McBride family is no different from my big family. We came from the South to the North for a good life and to get a good education. A black man married out of his race and struggled. They had to keep the marriage quiet because in the South, if a black man was walking down the street, and a white woman was walking down the same street, the black man would have to turn his head away. I have no problem passing this book to a family member or a friend. I relate to this book because my kids married our of their race. If they are happy then I'm happy too. It is your right to marry whomever you want. Don't listen to people telling you that it can't work out. Listen to what God is saying and it will work. Have you ever watched little boys and girls play in the park? Sit down and watch. They do not see color. Kids live to have fun. Growing up in the same neighborhood, they are good friends. But somewhere down the line these relationships may change. I notice that we are beginning to understand each other better, and books like The Color of Water pave the way for this better understanding.』

(Unsentimental and touching)
『This is a remarkably unsentimental portrayal of a black man's white, Jewish mother who finds a life with those of another race more sustaining than staying with her own.』

(A touching tribute to an incredible woman and family)
『This book had been on my shelf for a long time. Having just finished it, I can only wish that I would have read it much, much sooner.

This book alternates chapters between the author's voice (the son, James McBride) and the mother's voice. He uses italics for those chapters in his mother's words and, while it seems this would be clear enough, I still got very confused in the first half of the book. I would begin a chapter knowing it was in the mother's voice because of the italics but, once I was heavily into the chapter, I would get confused about the family history because both her chapters and his chapters are written in first person. This is the only reason I gave this book 4 stars vs. 5, because it was otherwise an outstanding and truly touching read.

This is the story of a white Jewish woman who marries a black man and raises 12 children (a combination of his children and her second husband's). Despite the fact that the family was desperately poor during much of their lives, all of her children went to college and most went on to be doctors, teachers, nurses, etc. She wasn't exactly the picture of a smiling, perfect Donna Reed-like mom; she was a tough cookie, but she fiercely loved her children and raised them to be good people. All of this while being completely shunned by her own family because she married a black man and left home against the wishes of her tyrant father.

In my earlier adulthood, I definitely had a chip on my shoulder about my own childhood not being a piece of cake but, when compared with this woman's ordeal, my family was something out of a happy-go-lucky TV sitcom. I think anyone who is in a "my life is so hard" mindset would be well served by reading this book. Sometimes what we need is a healthy dose of someone *else's* reality to remind us that our own is not really all that bad.』

(Good story, weak telling)
『I wanted to love this book. And I almost did. I was hooked at the beginning, but the further I read, the more discouraged I became. I could not really like any of the people and I was not impressed at all with "Mommy" or at least the portrayal of her. I think the story was good, but the telling of it was weak, unclear and toward the end, rambling. There were several spots where it could have and in my opinion should have, ended. Indeed, I set it aside for over a week with only 50 pages to go and only finished it when I had nothing else to read.』
『A young African-American man describes growing up in an all-black Brooklyn housing project, one of twelve children of a white mother and black father, and discusses his mother's contributions to his life and coming to terms with his confusion over his own identity. 75,000 first printing. $50,000 ad/promo. Tour.』
『Order this book ... and please don't be put off by its pallid subtitle,A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother, which doesn't begin to do justice to the utterly unique and moving story contained within. The Color of Watertells the remarkable story of Ruth McBride Jordan, the two good men she married, and the 12 good children she raised. Jordan, born Rachel Shilsky, a Polish Jew, immigrated to America soon after birth; as an adult she moved to New York City, leaving her family and faith behind in Virginia. Jordan met and married a black man, making her isolation even more profound. The book is a success story, a testament to one woman's true heart, solid values, and indomitable will. Ruth Jordan battled not only racism but also poverty to raise her children and, despite being sorely tested, never wavered. In telling her story--along with her son's--The Color of Wateraddresses racial identity with compassion, insight, and realism. It is, in a word, inspiring, and you will finish it with unalloyed admiration for a flawed but remarkable individual. And, perhaps, a little more faith in us all.』

『Color by Betty Edwards: A Course in Mastering the Art of Mixing Colors
Very good book for a beginner and quite useful to the more serious.
Arrived within 8 days of placing my order and i used standard delivery. Superb.

It's a shame that it's only available in the USA.
Lived up to my expectations.』

(wallpaper paintings and recycled color theory)
『this is a disappointing book, for three reasons. first, edwards simply recycles the mummified "color theory" dogma inherited from the 19th century (primary colors, complementary color contrast, and the "mud" definition of subdued tones); worse, she merely parrots it secondhand, in dribs and drabs and without no insight into what she is saying. second, the "scientific" statements about color are dilettantish, superficial and in many specifics factually wrong. finally, the practical guidance is devoid of any artistic spirit: the introductory color lesson asks the student to make little wheels of color and then, when the little wheels are completed, to copy wallpaper. no, that's not a metaphor: you choose a piece of wallpaper, paste it to a sheet of watercolor paper, then copy the design while inverting or shifting the color scheme.

the acme of edwards's color advice is her scheme for "color harmony" -- each painting must contain a balanced selection of the primary colors that are balanced within themselves on lightness and chroma (which edwards calls "value" and "intensity"). this is another empty cliche from 19th century color theory -- victorian art theorists speculated that a harmonious painting, spun on a turntable, would blur into a gray disc -- and the irony is that edwards introduces as a principle of harmony what she disparages as "mud" in color mixing. the worst point, however, is that she does what "color theorists" always do -- lay down simple rules as dogma -- in this case the assertion that painting harmony is simply the manipulation of color patterns.

of course, since we are in the realm of mummified "color theory", those patterns are the 18th century complementary color contrasts (yellow+purple, orange+blue, red+green) that have turned amateur painting into an anthill of identical cliches. this simplistic rule has been repeated for generations, not because it is accurate or useful (colors that are "off complementary" are actually more harmonious together), but simply because it is dogma -- something you can teach that has been taught before. significantly, these teachers (edwards included) are never fine artists themselves.

indeed, the whole book has a discouraging, reductive approach that resembles teaching the blind to paint. paint something simple, like a vase with flowers. hold up you metric wheels to judge colors. adjust colors using your wallpaper painting methods. make paintings by blocking in colors, then adjusting colors. stand back, squint, and "change whatever color doesn't look right." add colors that are missing and vary colors that are too similar. avoid mud. use complementary colors. get a new sheet of paper, rinse and repeat.

the only thing soaring about this book is the flight it takes as you fling it out your window; the only inspiring moment is when it flops into your trash can. yes! three points!』

(ALL ABOUT COLOUR)
『Hi,
This book explains everything about colour. Most important thing is it teaches you to identify and match colour with value.
Entire colour wheel is simplified so one can easily remember it.
This is best book of Colour I have ever read.』

(A great book for understanding color)
『I had started to paint before seeing this book and was really frustrated of the results. Then I found this book and went through the exercises and eventually I understood where I went wrong. The explanations are clear and every exercise gets you one stage ahead in the way of "seeing" colors. I was so encouraged by this book that I ordered the one about drawing.』

(color information for artists)
『A wonderful book,,makes color mixing for the non-professional arist very understandable.. A treasured addition to my book collection.』
『Millions of people have learned to draw using the methods of Dr. Betty Edwards's bestsellerThe New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Now, much as artists progress from drawing to painting, Edwards moves from black-and-white into color. This new guide distills the enormous existing knowledge about color theory into a practical method of working with color to produce harmonious combinations.

Using techniques tested and honed in her five-day intensive color workshops, Edwards provides a basic understanding of how to see color, how to use it, and-for those involved in art, painting, or design-how to mix and combine hues. Including more than 125 color images and exercises that move from simple to challenging, this volume explains how to:

- see what is really there rather than what you "know" in your mind about colored objects
- perceive how light affects color, and how colors affect one another
- manipulate hue, value, and intensity of color and transform colors into their opposites
- balance color in still-life, landscape, figure, and portrait painting
- understand the psychology of color
- harmonize color in your surroundings

While we recognize and treasure the beautiful use of color, reproducing what we see can be a challenge. Accessibly unweaving color's complexity, this must-have primer is destined to be an instant classic.』

(Wonderful story!!!)
『I recently began to study textiles on my own and have always been fascinated by COLOR. This book is not only a great read with many wonderful stories, but one of the few books I've read where I was sad to see it end. I will never look at red or purple or ochre or blue, or any color for that matter, in the same way. There are other books on color which may give more detailed information, but none so human or intriguing. I could only imagine what adventures would await someone on a quest of colors' natural history as this author has encountered. I highly highly recommend this book for anyone interested in social history and human inventiveness.』

(What you didn't know that you really want to know)
『I took for granted all the colors and dyes in our everyday lives -- yet these seemingly simple colors each have a history, a point of origin, a story: these tales are fascinating. (I will never be able look at blue jeans with the same complacence again.) And this is a great travelogue too: Finlay travels the world to search out the colors....』

(A Fascinating Look at Colors and Their History)
『This book was recommended to me by a customer in my shop, following a discussion of art and textiles from Indonesia, Central Asia and the Middle East. I found it to be an informative read. It presented a lot of information on the history and anthropology of colors, providing perspectives that I found to be interesting. In some places the author's style was somewhat off-putting which detracted somewhat from the content. That aside, I recommend the book and have in fact suggested it to several artists who have visited my shop, Interesting Stuff.』

(Awesome and useful)
『I use some of the fun facts from this book in the oil painting class I teach. A very entertaining and educational travelogue. I really enjoyed how the author tied different narrative threads together.』

(Voyage to the source of colors)
『Part travelogue, part history and part study of the origins and source of pigments, "Color" is always informative and engaging. There is no book quite like this. For the painter, amateur or professional, the book will provide inspiration and a new way to look at and think about color. For the non-artist, it is an eye-opening essay into this exciting world. You'll want to rush out and buy a paint set afterwards.』
『Discover the tantalizing true stories behind your favorite colors.
For example: Cleopatra used saffron—a source of the color yellow—for seduction. Extracted from an Afghan mine, the blue “ultramarine” paint used by Michelangelo was so expensive he couldn’t afford to buy it himself. Since ancient times, carmine red—still found in lipsticks and Cherry Coke today—has come from the blood of insects.』

(Great, quick, clean....)
『This book is awesome... I have to put it down every few pages because I like to put thought and intention into the exercises.... it is hopeful, knowledgeable and encouraging...』

(ALOT of meandering...)
『I think I have an idea of what the writer is trying to accomplish but his book could have been simpler and more concise. I found the book difficult to apprehend for people frustrated in life and unsure of what to do next. I'd like to give this warning...if you aren't inclined towards religion you will have problems with this book because the author uses God as an affirmative defense for the outcome of every decision the reader has to make. I believe in God but I also believe in free will and that God does not micro-manage our life styles. That God is concerned in long term consequences resulting from poor planning or the lack of it but not necessarily in every decision we have to make. That being said if you are already aware of the passion that drives you but aren't quite sure how to bring it to fruition there are perhaps, a number of other books better suited to the task of helping you realize your full potential.』

(What a lifesaver!)
『This book is truly a lifesaver, and it's updated every year. I have not had to look for a job in 20 years, and didn't truly know how to write a professional resume. Not only did I learn alot about writing resumes but I also learned alot about myself! This is a book I will keep close at hand always. I love it!』

(A Must-Read for Those on the Voyage of Self-Discovery)
『For those unsure of what lies ahead, this book is the perfect must-read. It will guide you through the voyage of self-discovery to assist you in choosing the career/work environment that best fits your personality. What could be better than finding a career you love?』

(Not Too Useful)
『I don't understand why this book is considered such a classic reference. I found it badly written, not that useful, and WAY too religious. The chapter about how to determine your true mission in life is ALL about God and religion. You may agree or disagree with the author's religious views, but regardless I do not think that belongs in a job-hunting book. As a disillusioned corporate worker trying to change careers, I really needed practical, real-world advice.

The book seems to written for ADD people because it keeps repeating the same things only a couple of pages later. Also, some of his advice I disagree with - he keeps saying that the Internet is not a good way to get a job. What century is he living in?? I have gotten almost all my jobs over the last 12 years through applying over the Internet (Monster, CareerBuilder, etc.)

It has a few listings of sites that may be useful, but the book overall was a waste. Unless you want to bring it to your Bible study group.』

『WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE? is still the best-selling job-hunting book in the world. A favorite of job hunters and career changers for more than three decades, it continues to be a mainstay on best-seller lists, from Amazon.com to Business Week to the New York Times, where it has spent more than six years, and has been translated into 12 languages. The 2008 edition is an even more useful book, with its updated, inspiring, and detailed plan for changing readers? lives. With new examples, instructions, and cautionary advice, PARACHUTE is, to quote Fortune magazine, ?the gold standard of career guides.?』

(Praying in Color)
『This was a great new idea. I thot that more kinds of pictures, art etc. could have been discussed.』

(Praying in Color)
『This book presents a way to combine prayer and meditation with simple art production. I have been using ideas gleaned from it for over two months and find myself eager to pray each day. I have also bought three other copies to use as gifts -- a good indication of how valuable I have found it to be.』

(Praying in Color)
『This book offers a very creative way to use simple drawing materials and doodling as a form of prayer. Using color, shape, and lines makes it easy to stay engaged in prayer, whether on behalf of others or for oneself. The finished product is a visual reminder of the prayer.』

(No More Prayer Blues)
『In meetings or in church I doodle constantly. It helps keep me focused. This book has bought a new dimension to prayer and doodling. As soon as I received this book I started to put it into practice. I spent over 15 minutes colour praying for my 29yr old son and it was a time of great joy and rejoicing. I've found that these visual prayers stay with me through the day so that I'm beginning to understand more what it is to pray without ceasing.』

(Pretty Much Awesome..)
『This book is good.. i mean really good.. (Hey everyone, come look at how good this book is)!.. i love it.. its very creative.. and im not.. so its fun.. and its cool to look at old prayers you drew.. sweet..』
