IPhone 3G used's review (More appropriate for younger children) 『As a yoga teacher and a mother of teens I am seeking books that present the beauty and value of yoga to teens. This book is nice to look at however...if you are seeking a yoga program that teaches classic yoga postures this is not the book for you. They are only briefly mentioned late in the book. My kids and the teens that I teach do not want postures with "kid names", they are interested in and are capable of learning the true names of postures and the metaphors that they present. Alignment in postures is not presented well and while I do not overly focus on strict alignment with teens I feel that it should be presented in a book on the subject. In my mind this is a "fun" type book but not for serious students or teachers.』
(Great Book) 『This book was so great. I'm a follower of the raw food diet and have practiced yoga for 2 years now. I'm only 16 but after I did some the exercises in this book I saw results after 6 weeks of doing them. I'm a surfer so being in shape is a must. This book worked for me. I also haven't had sickness in a year. I would recommend this book to anyone.』
(A Pleasing Book) 『I looved this book. I do some of the exercises in the morning before I do my Makeup and go to school. Usually ships in 24 hours 『Hatha Yoga, is also known as hatha vidya or the "science of hatha" yoga. The word Hatha comes from combining the two Sanskrit terms "ha" meaning sun and "tha" meaning moon. The word "ha" refers to the solar nadi (pingala) in the subtle body and "tha" the lunar channel (ida). However, when the two components of the word are placed together, "hatha" means "forceful", implying that powerful work must be done to purify the body. Yoga means to yoke, or to join 2 things together, hence hatha yoga is meant to join together our sun (masculine, active) energy with our moon (feminine, receptive) energy, thus producing balance and greater power in an individual. Traditional Hatha Yoga is a holistic yogic path, including moral disciplines, physical postures asanas, purification procedures shatkriyas, poses mudras, yogic breathing pranayamas and meditation. The Hatha yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises. This book teaches the correct way to breath, includes many breathing exercises and yoga exercises, along with suggestions on diet, relaxation and sleep.』 fetish『 Astanga Yoga Including the Benefits of Yoga Chikitsa I&II Series 』

This book, the first in a new series, seeks to remedy this situation. Dr. Ganapathy and his team have labored hard to launch this series, and they do so with the most illustrious masters of Siddha Yoga--Bogar. This volumen is a great starting point for exploring the Tantric Yoga of the Siddhas." Georg Feuerstein, Ph.D., authot of The Shambhala Encyclopedia of Yoga."』 『Boganathar was the Siddha guru of Kriya Babaji Nagaraj, the famed Himalayan master, of whom much has been written. Boganathar lived an extremely long life through the use of alchemical rejuvenation formulae and special breathing techniques. He traveled all over the world, chronicled the lives of Siddhas much older than himself, and provided his disciples an illumined path to Self-realization and integral transformation of human nature into divinity. His astounding life provides a shining example of our human potential. The present work provides a biography of Boganathar, as we can glean it from his writings alone, as well as introductory chapters on the Siddha tradition and Kundalini Yoga.
The present work also provides a translation and commentary of about seventy-five selected poems, which serious students of all traditions of Kundalini Yoga and Tantra will find illuminating. By meditating upon the verses, the reader will be able to draw much inspiration.
The present work provides a word-by-word translation, with alternative meanings, as well as a literal translation, and finally an interpretative translation, to balance the need for precision and understanding and to facilitate a deeper meditative approach to the various layers of meaning of each verse.』

Timeless Books
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (extremely practical, with great balance of philosophical insight) 『As far as dream interpretation is concerned, I'd be surprised if a better book available than this. The authour recognizes that symbols will carry different meanings for different people. In dream dictionary books available on the market, the meanings of symbols can be contradictory if you check a few different books... so which one should you trust? If you have nearly drowned at some point in my life, water may carry a different meaning than "purity" or "life". If you have been attacked by a dog, a dog may not represent "companionship" or "loyalty". The authour guides readers through a very intensive process to help remember their dreams and create a personal dream dictionary. The intensive process involves working with various symbols from your own dreams, and interpreting these symbols according to the context of the whole dream and events in your life. The process requires a lot of dedication, but is very fun and fulfilling, and the more effort you devote to dreaming... the more dreams you will have. By creating your own personal dream dictionary, you can see how symbols in your dreams change over time, allowing you to chart changes in your psychological and spiritual growth.
The value of this book does not stop with dream interpretation. The authour has an amazing understanding of the human mind, and she has created an extremely practical book with A LOT of very thorough exercises to help you look into how your mind works, very very very deeply. Following these exercises is bound to provide anybody with self-knowledge and awareness. The book would be particularly useful for people interested in psychology or yoga (the authour has written a few amazing books on yoga, I would also recommend her book "Kundalini Yoga", which is involves an in-depth training of bodily awareness... it would make an excellent companion to this book, which is an aid for psychological awareness). The authour loads the book with profound information about psychology, spirituality, and dreaming. The book demonstrates a skillful balance of theory and practical suggestions, and the meanings in it unfold with every reading. This is a book to work with and refer to for many years... if you really just want to skim through it, it would make an interesting casual read, but the real value of this book is its practical use.
My only problem with the book is a problem with dream interpretation itself... Through dream interpretation I have gained practical insight into my life, and have made helpful changes based on these insights. My problem with dream interpretation, and particularly with the authours idea of it, is very simple. The authour bases her perspective on the idea that our dreams are spiritual messages from a higher part of our being, an inner guide. On many levels, I accept this idea, but I have problems with dogmatically accepting this type of idea. Assuming dreams do not contain an inherent message from our inner spiritual guide, then what are we interpreting? The process of interpreting dreams reveals interesting insight into our mind, but how much meaning can we attribute to the interpretations we come up with? If we interpret a horoscope, or the I Ching, or anything else, it may be extremely arbitrary and subjective. This is not really a problem, unless you completely expect that the knowledge you are unraveling is from an objective "higher source". Regardless of whether or not dreams are messages from an inner guide, interpretation will reveal something about your own mind and has proven to be very fruitful for me in a practical way that has influenced positive changes in my life.
』
(inner-guide dreaming) 『I have long noticed that my dreams seem to provide guidance more intellegent and innovative than anything my waking mind could come up with. This book not only endorses the idea of taking dream-guidance seriously, teaches how to honor dreams (at least, some dreams) as the voice of the divine inside. Radha discusses how to distinguish 'spiritual' dreams from other kinds of dreams. She presents practical ways to remember dreams and to use what you remember. Dream-symbols are unique to the dreamer, and this book offers ways to learn to read your own language of symbols. Radha also shares some of her own dreams, and explains how they guided her. This is the best dream book for the serious seeker that I have ever seen.』 『Is there a spiritual dimension to the dream world? Can we receive spiritual guidance from our dreams? How can we tell whether a dream is truly extraordinary or just wishful thinking? Can the dreaming mind lead us to other planes of consciousness and to contact the teacher within? Swami Radha answers these and other questions, showing how dreams can help us lead more meaningful lives and eventually lead us to mystical realms beyond the imagination. She offers practical exercises and reflections that radically challenge our ideas of reality while opening the door to a vast new inner potential.
From her forty years of personal experience, she offers practical dream yoga techniques for deepening awareness of the spiritual dimensions of dreaming. Her unique approach investigates prophetic dreams, nightmares, dreams about past lives, and spiritually directive dreams.
Using an intriguing collection of her own dreams, Swami Radha explores the play of consciousness. Through her presentation of effective tools and exercises, you will learn to navigate the obscurity of the space between the dreaming and the waking state.』

IPhone 3G used's review (Transcendent Book on Yoga) 『This book was beautifully executed, interspersing artwork with prose, on the energetic flow of yoga. Victor Van Kooten and Angela Farmer expressed how yoga can be a practice that frees us from internal blocks and makes us MORE ALIVE! This book was a wonderful support on the path for those who want to awaken, and to become more alive. I am a yoga teacher, and I meet so many people going through life like robots, chasing after money, security, popularity, relationships, material possessions, jobs that they feel will define them and give them respect. When the yoga works, we understand that those things - well, they are nice, no doubt of that, but they are not "IT". Happiness is elusive, and jobs, relationships and material possessions won't bring us happiness. Those are about anticipation, excitement, and the "chase" to attain a goal. Until you have chased a lot, attained a lot of goals, and realize "there has to be more to life than this!", you aren't ready. When you are ready, and begin to awaken to being a fully alive human, without concern for what others think, finding YOUR connection to life, this book will visually and verbally give you a few of the insights you may need! Shanti, Shanti, Shanti!』
(This one is different...) 『This is a completely different kind of yoga book - refreshing and thought provoking.
Books about Yoga in the US tend to be mechanics' instruction manuals for the human body. Place hip here, rotate collar bone thirty degrees, breathe deeply, that kind of thing. All of this comes from Americans' infatuation with fitness. The problem is, fitness is a BYPRODUCT of yoga, not the main goal. On the other side of the spectrum, books about Yoga from Eastern writers are often lost in Hindu/Sanskrit jargon about raja yoga, karma yoga, etc. While fascinating to pursue for some, not everyone wants to become a sannyasin.
Yoga master Victor Van Kooten has here broken out of the mold, and anyone who has studied with him knows that's his specialty. His book is about JOINING your body with your mind and your spirit, which is what yoga is all about anyway. The book tries to help you see not just what a yoga pose (asana) is doing to your physique, but what it's doing to the universe, and what universal principles flow through the pose. All of this is accomplished with Van Kooten's inimitable freehand drawings and text, leavened with his wonderful sense of humor.
Too many yoga 'gurus' have turned this ancient wisdom into a Schwarzenegger-like training program, and have divorced mind, body, and spirit. Van Kooten is the host for a joyous reunion.』
(A refreshing look at an ancient wisdom) 『Victor Van Kooten is a modern yoga master who has accomplished what yoga masters set out to do; he has transcended the physical limits that the body imposes on the vast majority of us. No, this doesn't mean he leaves his body every day for a trip to Jupiter. What it means is he can FEEL the connections his body has to his mind, his spirit, the Earth, and the rest of the universe. Consequently, this book is a fascinating look at what it's like to not be limited by stale thinking.
Most Americans view their bodies with less affection than they view their cars. Their cars are subjected to love, care, and are seen as a link to who they really are. Their bodies are abused, forgotten, and denied as a fundamental expression of self. Western medical traditions, harkening back to Rene Descartes' amputation of mind from body, have amplified this view, and modern doctors are turned into glorified auto mechanics. Ironically, a real auto mechanic is more sympathetic to you having an emotional connection to your car, than a modern MD is to you having an emotional connection to your body. Most doctors get uncomfortable with the whole idea that your emotions, mind, and spirit might play a part in your body's function. Many of them deny it altogether, dismissing everything that doesn't spring from scalpel or pill as just "a placebo effect".
What Van Kooten does in this joyous tome, is remind you of connections. Yoga does mean "union" in Sanskrit, after all. He shows the connections of the parts of your body to your mind, and the mind-body system to the universe. For him, there are no separations, and all is flow. The proof is in the pudding, and students who have slumped in to his classes have been known to dance out the door. In addition, Van Kooten is an artist, and his book uses the non-verbal side of the brain to get the message across, along with his delightful sense of humor.
Anyone interested in yoga will find this book revivifies their practice. Anyone interested in art, or the body-mind, should likewise buy this delightful book. In addition, check out the amazing video by Victor's partner Angela Farmer, called The Feminine Unfolding. Here you can see their yoga in action.』
『A lively and playful notebook-style book of drawings and text describing the yoga teaching of Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten. Black and white drawings are interspersed with sumptuous color images in this high-quality, full size book, reflecting the unique, iconoclastic and inspired teaching of these esteemed international teachers.』
