(Not much there)
『I'm a yoga teacher, about to teach a prenatal class. I bought this book because Judith Lasater is an excellent teacher and I hoped to get some ideas for my class. The 23 pages of this book devoted to prenatal yoga were quite helpful. I just expected more. This is billed as a Rodmell Press "Yoga Shorts" and it is. The book would probably be most helpful for a pregnant woman who is new to yoga. She would learn 6 poses, 3 of them supported. For everyone else, I'd recommend going with Lasater's RELAX AND RENEW.』
Drawing on her experience as a mother, a yoga teacher, and a physical therapist, author Judith Lasater, Ph.D. presents a comprehensive and easy-to-follow program of yoga poses and breathing practices. These will help the mother to stay flexible and healthy throughout the pregnancy, remain present during the challenges of labor and delivery, and care for herself during the postpartum period. In addition, the author has created a special section called "Mantras for Mom and Baby," where the mother can explore heart-centered practices, one for each month during pregnancy and baby's first year.

(Muriel Hemingway)
『Muriel gives an interesting account of her life with a twist on the importance of health and exercise in her short and easy to read book. Well worth the price. Give it to friends as gift.』

(Yoga in real life)
『I am not sure what I expected, but I was pleasantly pleased by A Memoir with Yoga. It was interesting to read about her life - but even more interesting was how well she described the asanas. I have a new approach to some of them (remembering her giggles at the cat and dog poses - and that some yoga is FUN), and will concentrate on moving into a pose with her words in my mind. I learned more about yoga from the book than expected, and it was a joy to read.』

(Interesting even if you're not into yoga)
『Like the reader from Raynham, MA, I am not the slightest bit interested in yoga and skipped over those parts. But the other sections were worth reading -- especially the parts about her eating disorder! Before she got the implants, I always admired and envied Mariel's figure, especially the way she looked in Personal Best, and had assumed that she was just naturally athletic. I suppose I shouldn't have been shocked to learn that, like so many celebrities, she had to starve and endanger her health to look like that. And the stuff about her mixed-up family was very interesting, too -- though sad. I also enjoyed the stuff about Woody Allen.』

(Well worth reading)
『Heartwarming insight into the experiences of one cool lady. I admit to following Mariel's (and Margaux') career since before "Lipstick" and I read the book in one session. Very touching, and Mariel really lays a lot of personal pain and joy bare for us to see. A great book for anyone juggling family problems, a difficult adolescence, food demons, and facing adversity. I sure hope the future is kind to Mariel and her family.』

(Mariel opens her heart)
『In this touching, informative, truthful story about Mariel's own life is a compelling story I couldn't put down. For any fans of hers, you are going to love this book and won't be ab le to put it down.』
『Stardom, thanks to Woody Allen and his filmManhattan, came at an early age...but so did the problems of a broken and dysfunctional family. Yet in a life so out of kilter, Mariel Hemingway summoned the strength and inner resolve that enabled her to find -- and to keep -- her balance.

InFinding My Balance, actress Mariel Hemingway uses the lessons and practices of yoga as a starting point for her own personal reflections and larger-than-life family story. The result is a searingly honest memoir that is as deeply moving as it is helpfully prescriptive.

Mariel turned to yoga and its meditative practice in an effort to maintain her center when her life threatened to spin out of control. Having experienced family tragedy, sudden stardom, and the continuing challenges of a full and demanding life, Mariel learned through practice how to find her balance in emotionally disorienting situations. Throughout the book, Mariel uses her yoga training as a starting point for each chapter, carefully describing a particular position, then letting her mind wander into thoughts of the past and of her tumultuous life.

As each chapter begins with instruction, so does the book end with exercises organized in a sequence that can be followed by anyone who wants to practice them. As a special bonus for this edition, Mariel has added a section that describes the basics of her own "In Balance Philosophy," calming words of advice for people in search of their own emotional center.』

(A tragic clash between two well different worlds!)

From the first shots, we will witness the visible passion aroused just for simple glimpse that will arise a true flaming love. A mature Swiss woman will fall in love with a warrior or a tribe and following her heart's call she will follow his traces until they decide to live together.

But as you and I expect, the initial attraction will not be quite enough to carve in relief, the abysmal differences in order to understand the world. This is an entire exploration around the feminine universe, against a new world. A woman who unexpectedly, decides to live with this warrior but sooner than later she will realize her option was not the best of all possible ones.

(Fluffy and Feisty)
『I found Corinne to be a really strange mix. She falls in love with a Masai, seemingly mainly because of his physical attributes. She barely mentions any conversations they had besides being very attracted to the way he always said "no problem Corinne" which reminded me of my teenage best friend who fell in love with a hooligan because she liked the way he said "well there you are then"! There's no analysis of whether she loved him for his character or just his exotic looks which I found incredible given that she was going to change her life to be with him. So, quite frankly, I had her pegged as a complete airhead. Then I read about how she dealt with her new (self-chosen/inflicted) life and all the hardships and dramas that entailed. Airhead or not, she had guts. Will certainly search out her the sequels.』

(Love story of the century)
『I first read an article on Hoffman's adventures years ago, then went to see the movie expecting to get a few good laughs out of the cultural clashes. To my surprise, I was deeply moved and lots of memories from my own past flooded my mind. The Masai warrior reminded me of a couple of great loves of my life. Yes, the Masai warrior! Which just goes to prove that men are the same all over the world.
Having seen the movie I bought the book. Excellent book, read it right through. Slightly different than the film, which is understandable. If Hoffman is not a literary giant, that doesn't matter, her writing is good enough by far.
The film and the book have universal appeal, they go beyond just an anthropological account and depict very poignantly the fading of a passionate love despite the best intentions of the couple involved.
Hoffman is a very tall woman. In Lketinga, she finally found a man even taller. But surely mere physical attraction could not have been the reason for her turning her life around in such a drastic way? Hoffman gives a very detailed account of facts - after all, she is half German - but does not stop to fully analyze the reasons for her initial infatuation with a Masai warrior. She does hint of dissatisfaction concerning her life with her boyfriend Marco before she met Lketinga.
She also says Lketinga's jealousy was the reason she decided to leave him, but you get the feeling the Swiss also finally tired of living in Africa when her money ran out. You find yourself hoping she has regained her losses with the book, so that it would not have been all for nought.

(A great romantic notion)
『There is something really astonishing about this book - it will get you hooked. An Austrian woman with incredible self-confidence, strong social ties, a successful business and a boyfriend falls in love at first sight with a Masai warrior on a trip to Kenya. Upon her return to Austria, Corinne sells her business, breaks up with her boyfriend and buys a ticket to Kenya in order to reunite with Lketinga. At first, their love for each other appears to conquer all the social and economical differences, but then the problems start. And these problems are not minor for a woman who moved from a first world country to live in a third world country. Corinne deals with health issues, Kenyan customs, bureaucracy and interracial perceptions. The book is a true page turner that will keep the reader engaged with new and exciting story lines throughout. We follow Corinne in her quest to have her dream of loving and being loved come true only to discover that this dream never could become reality.

My mother gave me this book and Corinne Hoffman's follow-up book as a gift. She loved the romantic notion of the book, the descriptions of a foreign country and its custom. While agreeing with her on how fascinating, interesting, and often unbelievable this story is, I was a bit appalled by its writing style and editing. This is certainly not a book that will be discussed for its literary influence in any class room. Mrs. Hoffman is not an experienced writer and a more influential editor would have served her well. The story moves in chronological order and often reads more like an unedited diary than a literary account of a story that took place in the past. The book is poor on self-reflections and afterthoughts, which may have been avoided by the writer on purpose as to allow the reader a more unbiased account of the story. I did find Mrs. Hoffman's decisions lacking reasoning at times and was surprised at her quest for what seemed to be such an unrealistic romance. I do, however, appreciated the honesty Mrs. Hoffman showed and her very detailed descriptions of certain events. I believe that she would make an excellent dinner guest and I would love to hear more from her about her experience in Kenya.』

(It was great to live vicariously, the probable outcome of such a venture...)

all from the comfort of my couch with the heater on and coffee or glass of wine in my hand. I've had a crazy "connection" to a stranger in a strange land before and thanked god I wasn't mad enough to do anything about it and congratulated myself where in the past I berated myself for not having enough spunk.

It's a great story, well written and the translation into English works wonderfully. thanks to Corinne for going through it and then writing about it. She's quite a woman and I got alot out of her honesty which made me laugh out loud. She's not perfect but she's just like us and I never found her story unbelievable.

Excellent read.』

(Helpful book for practitioners)
『This book has been compiled by Matthieu Ricard. A Frenchman, Ricard got his PhD in molecular biology and pursued a career in scientific research before abandoning that life to go to Asia to study Tibetan Buddhism with some of the great lamas there. He did all this much to the surprise of his father, an eminent French intellectual, atheist and philosopher Jean-Francois Revel. You can read their recent dialogue, many decades after Ricard left, in the fascinating book "The Monk and the Philosopher."

One of Ricard's main teachers was the great Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, pictured on the cover of this book. He is considered an unsurpassed master of Tibetan Buddhism, a very senior lineage holder in the Nyingma school, and a teacher of many other great lamas, including H.H. the Dalai Lama. Particularly, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was a master of Dzogchen.

In this very slim yet illuminating volume, Khyentse Rincpoche teaches on one of the most essential practices in Tibetan Buddhism, guru yoga. This is a meditation in which one fuses one's mind with the mind of one's guru. It is an important part of guru devotion, a practice done daily by most serious Tibetan Buddhist practitioners, and one that is common to all of the four schools.

That being said, not many teachings are available in published format on this very important practice. Guru yoga is of course mentioned in every introductory text to Tibetan Buddhism, and every more advanced book notes that one must practice guru yoga as a preliminary to any higher level practices (tantras, mahamudra, dzogchen, etc.) So this is therefore a very valuable book for practitioners. Transcribed from oral teachings, it very concisely points out the essence of this practice, gives advice, and points out the implications for one's whole life.

Because it is heavily focused on the actual practice, this book is not recommended for anyone who does not already engage in guru yoga. Nor should it be taken as a "how-to" manual on guru yoga. It seems to me that guru yoga should not be practiced unless one has been taught and empowered by a lama in person.

This book is especially suited for Nyingmapas, as the sadhana discussed focuses on Padmasambhava. That being said, it is clear that practitioners from all four schools have much to gain from reading and studying it.』

(Recommended for students of Yoga and Buddhism.)
『Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's Guru Yoga examines the beliefs of Vajrayana Buddhist traditions of Tibet, focussing on the practice of 'guru yoga', merging with the mind of the master, and considering its practice and benefits. Chapters provide important links between devotion and the power of the master to provide ultimate realization.』
『Why is the practice of guru yoga (union with the nature of the guru) so important?』

(East Meets West Healing)
『Good start to understand Eastern and Western medicine.
5 stars for his background layout of those.
However, he fails to do indexing at the end of the books.
Such as page 17, when he refers to Robert Becker, "The Body Electric".
no appendix, no index, no suggested reading whatsoever.
I hope his next edition of this book will include those to
become more professional readings.

As you many know, there are many QI Gong masters in this planet,
some are faked , some are hunting for money, BUT some are real!!
For more information about Qi theory and history, I guess those below books are good reference.
Encounter With Qi, by Eisenberg
Healing Promise of Qi, by Roger

For me, the real Qi-gong master who still living now is Lin Hou-Sheng, in Shanghai ,China.
He himself is a chinese medicine doctor who proves lots of his works in scientific terms.
His Tai Ji Qi Gong 18 movements of Lin Hou-Sheng is also great!!
his English translated books "300 questions on Qigong" is excellent.
You can try to do those exercises to get in touch with QI
it's real but can not be explained with simple vocabulary.

Don't believe in anything about "Qi" , until you touch it with
your own feeling!!』

(This book has inspired me!)
『This book is the best book I have ever read on the subject of QI Gong. I find the exercises easy to do and very beneficial to my health and everyday life. I highly recommend that everybody reads this book.』
『Here is a clear concise guide to Energetics, the science of the body's energy, or life force, whose ancient principles hold the key to every form of Eastern healing.
