IPhone 3G used's review (Wow, very impressed) 『I love Yogi Hari. I have done yoga with his videos for many years, i also love his Sampoorna Yoga book. His commentary on the Pradipika is so clear and wonderfully written. I will go back to this book over and over in my yoga practice. If you practice yoga and want to go deeper, you have to get this book.』
(A NEW READABLE VERSION OF AN ANCIENT TEXT) 『This is the CLEAREST most comprehensive Pradipika Ive ever read! I was floored. ANYONE can read and understand and DO the asana and pranayama, etc in this book. If you dont know who Yogi Hari is, all I need to say is he part of the Sivananda Lineage. THANK YOU SHRI YOGI HARI! Thank you to all his Gurus, and Thank YOU most of all, Dear Sivananda. Always alive in my heart!』
(Hari is the name for Krishna+Maheshvara.) 『 The Hatha Yoga Pradipika is an very old book. Yogi Hari makes it a new one, alife. Subtile he brings very deep insights in yoga to my mind. It is easy to read, not very special vocubalair. And than, I sit on my mat and praxtes exaxt as he teaches. I like the book more than normal.
Herman Gielen. (Yogateacher)』 『This groundbreaking commentary sheds light on the ancient scripture, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, dispelling the confusion and misinformation that permeated the world of Hatha Yoga today. Shri Yogi Hari, a world-renowned Yogi from the Sivananda lineage, a venerable Rishi, beloved Guru and perfected Master of Hatha, Nada and Raja Yoga, has selflessly dedicated his life to bringing the ancient mystical knowledge of Yoga to humanity until now. Also included are inspiring pictures of Shri Yogi Hari performing various Asanas and Mudras with detailed descriptions and easy-to-follow instructions on how to get into such poses.』

This is basically a reading of a yoga book, and is not organized in a way that is useful for the audio-instruction class format. Much better are the audio CD's by Cyndi Lee or Shiva Rea, both of which flow like a class and include illustrations.
This CD set is tracked, but neither the package nor the disks themselves give you a track listing, making it hard to find what you want. I personally don't have the time to wade through 3 disks to find the part of the workout I want to do. I gave a brief listen to the beginning of each track, catching a bit of piano music that reminded me of a soap opera and a reference to the "wall as your guru." Overall, it seemed a bit touchy-feely but lacking in content. Also, there are no photos or illustrations of her sequences, making it more difficult to follow along. I noticed this CD is dated 1987 - since then, it appears publishers have learned more about how to make an instructional CD more user-friendly.
My advice? Skip this one and go for one by Cyndi Lee or Shiva Rea.』 『

Diet is seen in this book as a means for straightening out the body, rather than a means for salvation. Adi Da talks about diet as a way to become more capable of using life for what he considers to be the greater matters of realization and ego-transcendence.
The author suggests diet can and should be used to improve and simplify life, but that its importance shouldn't be overestimated, or allow you to become righteous. The book is based in his wider teachings about spiritual practice and realization, so it seems less a book for those looking for just diet instructions, or a recipe-based book. This book is for people looking to really change the way they approach diet and health, especially in relationship to a spiritual practice.
There are a number of quite specific, practical instructions and explanations in the book that I found helpful - the different diets for different people, the benefits of a raw diet, and general principles for how to approach diet. 』 『This wonderful book is comprised of summary instruction on dietary practice and 'radical' healing. It includes various talks such as 'Renouncing the Search for the Edible Deity' and 'Diet is not the Key to Salvation'. What you will find in this book is not the usual information about health, but rather a unique description of diet from a point of view that is entirely radical, and therefore straightforward and profound. Adi Da: "My interest is always to address the fundamental self-limiting activity of every human being. No matter what you are outwardly doing in any moment, the same self obsessed one sits behind it. Therefore, deal intelligently with your own functional life. However, diet has nothing whatsoever to do with salvation--as you should know by now! The practice of diet is simply an ordinary discipline for intelligent people who are devoted to always present Communion with the Living Divine Reality, Truth, and Real (Acausal) God."』

However, it doesn't once mention that Sister Jayanti is one of the leaders of the doomsday cult called the Brahma Kumaris. The members believe that they and only they will be in the "Golden Age" (heaven). Not even Princess Diana, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, Jesus, Buddha, Moses, etc. will be in the Golden Age. They have been told for over 70 years that the world will be coming to an end because this world can only last for 5,000 years. They were the biggest fools when nothing happened during Y2K. If they truly believed that the world is coming to an end, they wouldn't be investing their time in the stock market or rolling over their IRAS. If the world is less than 5,000 years how can they explain the age of the pyramids, giant meteor craters, dinosaurs, continent shifts, etc. They simply cannot. The Brahma Kumaris is a very secretive organization much like Scientology. Only the weathly and selective celebrities are given the VIP treatment. According to them, God told them only the rich are VIPs to God. The more money you give them "the greater your fortune", which means the higher your position in heaven will be, otherwise you will be a servant. Servants in heaven? Why would you want to waste your time in an organization that believes the only way to go to heaven is to be a vegetarian and remain celibate? They are forbidden to watch television or go to the movies, but many do so anyway. Most are in denial because they read newspapers, magazines, novels, eat in restaurants, attend concerts, exercise, shop, sit next to the opposite sex and even vote. All of these things are forbidden to those that want to go to the "Golden Age" (heaven). Who said you can't go to heaven if you vote? They did. Isn't it no wonder that only the ones with high self-esteem and the ability to think for themselves seem to leave the Brahma Kumaris? If being with losers is your thing, or if you enjoy being in the company of diabetic obese men and women or people who are weak and sickly, or if you just want to be treated accordingly to your income, then the Brahma Kumaris is for you. If their members were happy, they wouldn't leave the organization, nor would they commit suicide. Even the people in charge of the organization are unhappy and decide to leave so that they can enjoy a normal life. Isn't it a wonder that many decide to get married, or raise a family very shortly after leaving the Brahma Kumaris? Who wants to be unhappy? If you do, contact your nearest Brahma Kumaris and get ready for a boring unhappy life.』 『

IPhone 3G used's review (Forever grateful for this book) 『I sent this email to the author today and I thought it would be appropriate to repeat it here:
Dear Bob, I am about to begin my morning yoga routine and I looked at your book again and I thought I need to let you know how special this book has been to me ever since I took my first yoga course at Cal State Long Beach in 1980. I liked the course and the book so much that I repeated the course for no credit. My teacher's name was Micki, I have no idea what happened to her, but she was the most advanced yoga teacher I have ever met. She knew so much about the poses, meditation, pranayama, and massage and told us about staying in an ashrmam. That was rare back then. My yoga studies have taken me far and wide, but I always come back to your book. My first book fell apart after several years. I eventually punched holes in it and put it into a notebook, that was good because the pages would lay flat and make it easier to navigate. Then somehow I lost the notebook during a move. I just replaced it with a used version from Amazon.com. There is a familarity of this book that is just like an old friend. I love how it is organized. I love how dated the photos are. I love the beautiful explanations. I love the routines in the back. They challenge me to do poses that aren't my favorites, or if I'm not really in the mood, it's like having a teacher tell me what to do, or if I want to work a specific area. There are many fancier books that have come along, but your book is my staple, my foundation, where it all began, and where I keep coming back to. I know that your career has taken you near and far with many accolades. But for me, just another yogini in Florida, practicing alone on my mat most of these 27 years, longer than I have ever done anything else consistently in my life, I wanted to let you know that this book is my special companion. Namaste, Kathy Gardner 』
(A Most Thorough Book) 『This is an incredible reference and guide to Hatha Yoga postures, body musculature and how the postures affect it, breath during postures, use of props and proper body alignment for each posture. There are several pictures documenting almost every pose and a guide to routines for every level of yoga student. And unlike most yoga books out there, this one is not just full of pretty picutes, there is a LOT of text -- very helpful, concise text that aids you in accomplishing the goal of each pose. It also contains a chapter on meditation and the chakras, and has a useful index, appendix and list of additional reading materials. The author does attempt to discuss the new age concept of consciousness and provide a brief history of yoga, but also stresses that "The main focus of this book is upon the postures of Hatha Yoga." I've purchased several yoga books over the past eight years since I've been practicing Hatha Yoga, and this is the one to which I always find myself returning. I will not loan this book out; I'll buy new copies for friends instead. It's that good.』
(This book is excellent for any yoga practitioner!) 『This paperback book on yoga, published more than 10 years ago, is an excellent book for people interested in yoga from beginners to advanced practitioners. What distinguishes this book from others on the market is the authors' comments, especially common mistakes and ways to correct them. Of many books on hatha yoga I have seen, this book stands as one of the best. It is worth a special order!』
