I think it's dangerous for an author to define their reader's assumed experience and understanding of intimacy rather than to just offer methods and tools to enhance it. Some of her ideas around separation and independence within the framework of a relationship are puzzling and inconsistent』
(not much fun) 『I rarely come across a book that I don't like or cannot find some redeeming value... until now.
What a huge disappointment!
I struggled with the first few chapters hoping it would get better, but I truly could not finish reading the entire book as the author seemed to be making it up as she wrote...
I practice yoga and have for the last 3 years or so. Being an actor, yoga helps me relax and I thought that my husband and I could try it together. No such luck here.
I am sorry but I would not recommend this book to others.
As I stated previously, I rarely find a book that I won't finish. This will be one of those.... sorry.』
(Not quite what I expected) 『On the surface, from reading the inside flap, summaries and excerpts, I felt this could have promise. I liked the pictures and graphical design of the book. After reading most of the book, it turned out to be a somewhat amateurish essay, advocating an idealistic but unrealistic and impractical portrayal of the actual reality of intimacy and relationship, and the "magic" benefits of the author's style.』
(I love this book) 『This is a beautiful and thoughtful book. I am a yoga teacher and studio owner. I have taken several of Elysabeth and Rex's partner yoga workshops and can assure you that this book reflects an authentic commitment to the practice of yoga but even more so to living yoga in relationships. Elysabeth's experience as a yoga teacher of many years is obvious in her beautiful physical alignment as well as her ability to convey themes/ideas through the asanas. I highly recommend this book but I even more strongly recommend that you read this book as a companion to one of her workshops. OM.』
(Not Worth It) 『I have been practicing and teaching yoga for over 30 years, and enjoy all the many varieties of yoga disciplines. Unfortunately, I cannot find any actual intrinsic value to this book, and literally all of the information contained there-in is nothing more than a simple regurgitation of various basic yoga techiques, with some simple children's gymnastic stretches thrown-in, and the label "partner yoga" slapped onto it. There is no original thinking here, and the author clearly is not an experienced nor interesting writer; the real purpose of this work is revealed unfortunately as really just being about the author. As I true dedicated yoga evangelist, I have grown tired of "posers" who attach themselves to spirituality and emerging and established practices simply for personal gain rather than authentic genuine value-added contributions and passion that enhance and further all of the great and wonderful work that is being and has been done by some remarkable pioneers out in our global community.』 『This book is a synthesis of ancient and modern yogic techniques that focus on both self and relationship development. Presents simple to advanced partner and group practices that are ideal for those with or without prior Yoga experience. Over three hundred beautiful, unique photographs and illustrations demonstrating over sixty practices.』

I do not think this would be a very good book for beginners, but it is excellent for someone who has a basic idea of how to do many of the poses, and what not to do in each of them, like keeping your knees in line with your feet when in warrior poses, and to not turn your head while in bridge pose. If you have been to classes, or have been practicing from thoroughly instructive videos, this book is an excellent way to mix things up a bit, as well as develop a grace in your yoga practice that can sometimes be left out in other programs. The book is full of useful information on breathing, and some other odds and ends. I highly recommend it and am still using it after three years and continuie to benefit from what it has to offer.』
(interesting sequences) 『This book has potential but the layout made it a tad hard to follow easily. If they changed that then it would get a 4.5 star』
(Fabulous but frustrating) 『This book is innovative, creative, beautifully illustrated and crafted. There are sequences for beginners and for more advanced practitioners, sets of warm-ups and various "flows" with clever and appropriate names, complete with recommendations for breathing practices. Flowing yoga sequences are printed on fold-out pages which is interesting, but you still need to weight the book open if you're going to refer to it while you practice. Paging through the book is a bit tricky because of the double thickness. The frustration of this book is a side-effect of its uniqueness, the sequences are placed on the page in a "figure eight" layout and this is difficult to follow. The well worded, descriptive instructions are sometimes hard to find as a result of the fold-out pages, (they are not given with the corresponding poses) and some transitions which one needs to go from pose to pose are in the back of the book (flipping back and forth required). If you're willing to take the time to study the book and learn the sequences, you'll get plenty from this book. I'm considering clipping the pages from mine and reorganizing them so I can follow the poses without standing on my head...』

In this unique and refreshing approach to yoga, breath, awareness, and movement are combined to radically transform the practice. Individual poses are seamlessly linked within specially-created sequences that generate relaxation, inner calm, and mental focus.
Classic hatha yoga poses were carefully chosen to connect in sequences of 13 to 20 poses to create a dynamic and fluid practice. Based on years of studio teaching and advanced training, the flows - ranging in difficulty from basic through to intensive - are shown here in separate gatefold spread units that can be easily followed by the reader.Yogaflowsfeatures:

IPhone 3G used's review (this Ashtanga Yoga is in fact Raja Yoga) 『This book describes the eight limbs of the Ashtanga Yoga system, also known as Raja Yoga. For the people who look for an Ashtanga Vinyasa book, as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, I would recommend Swenson's Practice Manual or John Scott's Ashtanga Yoga. As an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher, especially if you are new to yoga, I would also recommend great caution when doing some asanas as taught in this book. The body alignment is scary. My final word: practice yoga with a qualified yoga teacher first.』
(Concise and Precise Guide to Kundalini Yoga) 『This book could well be titled "Chakras, Kundalini and How to Awaken It" as that is the information it contains. A concise guide to the systematic stages of this "open secret." I highly recommend this deceptively simple book to the seeker of spiritual yoga.
I noted one reviewer here was disappointed because this book didn't fit their idea of "power yoga." This struck me as odd since kundalini yoga is very, very powerful. I think perhaps they, like many people, have confused power with perspiration. If you just want to be physically strong, yoga can do that for you. Perhaps one day though you will discover that yoga goes far beyond that. Perhaps then you may find this book helpful in your search for true spritual union.
Namaste』
(Ashtanga Yoga Primer) 『The Yoga Primer has served as an inspiration and light to my yoga practice for the past 20 years. It is a rare and precious offering from a true yoga master that goes to the pure heart of the essence of the 8 limbed path. As a shining example of karma yoga, all proceeds from the sale of this book (and all books by Baba Hari Dass) go to support an orphanage in India. This gem of a book offers teachings on many aspects of yoga practice. It has great photos and some of the best descriptions of asana benefits that I have read anywhere. It further teaches extensive practices that support asana practice such as shat karmas (internal cleansing) and mudras (exercises to raise the kundalini energy). The section on chakras clearly defines the path kundalini takes as it rises. One section is devoted to pranayamas which not only help with the ultimate aim of quieting the mind so it can rest in it's true nature of peace, but also reduce negative emotions and increase the prana (subltle air) which uplifts the mind and enrgizes the body. For the devotional types, there is a lovely description of arati and graceful hand mudras to enhance the worship aspect of your practice. All in all, a joy to have, a guide and companion on the path, and a great gift. My family and friends have enjoyed receiving it for a few generations now. Blessings on your way!om shanti om,Urmila』
(A wonderful book I have used in my yoga teaching for 14 year) 『Baba Hari Dass is a silent yogi who communicates via a chalk board. He is very straight forward and to the point and does not waste words. The book opens up flat so you can look at the wonderful pictures of the poses. It has a great introduction that includes all the limbs of Ashtanga (8 limbed) yoga. If it has a fault it is that Baba Hari Dass would hav you doing 2 to 3 hours of yoga practices a day if you followed his regimen, not very realistic for Americans.』
(this is not "power yoga") 『If you are planning to purchase this book thinking that it somehow relates to a power yoga regime (as I did) you would be mistaken. Although the book shows some very therapeutic poses, it also shows how to "purify " your nose by using dental floss and how to purge your stomach - not the book I thought it would be. For those fellow fans of power yoga I suggest Birch's Power Yoga - an excellent book.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Yoga scholarship/Yoga history) 『Yoga history is often written by those with strong ties to a particular guru or yogic system. Only recently has truly scholarly attention been focused on this subject. Elizabeth De Michelis has done a meticulous job of presenting her thesis. She shows how a typical Modern Postural Yoga class, her terminology to differentiate modern yoga from classical yoga, is a type of healing ritual of modern secular religion. We gain historical insight in to the development of yoga in the West that explains why many are more interested in postural yoga as an end in itself. I recommend this book as essential to anyone interested in the history of modern yoga.』
(An Insightful Analysis of the East/West Dialogue in Yoga) 『I highly recommend this book. It is clearly written, the scholarship is in depth and any serious scholar of modern Indian religions should read it. She clearly demonstrates that eastern and western ideas were fusing in India (particularly in Bengal)during the British Raj, and she shows how this contributed to the development of modern yoga movements. Included are profiles of some of the most influential thinkers and religious leaders in yoga (Vivekananda, Keshab Chandra Sen, Ramakrishna etc.) and detailed analysis of their contributions and influences. This book is a veritable gold mine of information for the religious scholar. Unfortunately, even such a great book has a flaw and I would be remiss not to point it out. She oversetimated the influence that western esotericism had on the formation of the modern yoga traditions and underestimates the influence that already existing Indian philosophies had on the development of yoga. What I think she failed to see was that western esoteric ideas were not transposed onto exisiting Indian religions, but were points of articulation with almost identical strands of mystical thinking in the indigenouse yoga traditions and the philosophy of advaita vedanta. They contained many elements in common, as most mystical traditions do. The crossover of ideas was an act of translation of perspectives between cultures at a level that there were already almost identical metaphysical ideas, namely in the mystical traditions of both. Other than this overstimation, the work is brilliant and should be read by anyone attempting to understand the roots of not only modern yoga, but of new age spirituality and modern Hinduism.』 『A History of Modern Yoga traces the roots of Modern Yoga back to the spread of western esoteric ideas in 18th century Bengal's intellectual circles. In due course Raja Yoga, published by Vivekananda in 1896, became the seminal text of Modern Yoga largely because, the author shows, it reconfigured the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali along the lines of a then emerging New Age Occultistic style of secularised and individualistically oriented religiosity. With regard to 20th century developments, this book proposes a four-fold typology of Modern Yoga comprising Modern Psychosomatic, Modern Meditational, Modern Postural and Modern Denominational forms. Iyengar Yoga, one of the most influential schools of Modern Postural Yoga, is then analyzed in the light of this framework, while the conclusion shows how a typical Modern Postural Yoga session may be interpreted to reveal the forms and contents of a healing ritual of secular religion.』

Very informative.』 『With over 200 photographs and illustrations, 'Yoga Mind, Body&Spirit' sets forth the tenets of this gentle yet rigorous exercise as no other book has. Integrating the teachings of every tradition, internationally renowned yoga instructor Donna Farhi reveals how yoga enhances the connections between the mind, body, and spirit. She outlines the seven simple movement principles that underlie all human motion and provides exercises to help readers understand how they can achieve all yoga postures. She also discusses the ten ethical precepts that are the foundation of all yoga teachings and explains how to incorporate them into a spiritually and emotionally rewarding inner practice. At the heart of 'Yoga Mind, Body&Spirit' are more than seventy-five yoga asanas or postures. Each one is pictured and described in detail, and they are arranged into related groups -including standing postures, sitting postures, arm balances, and breathing practices - for easy reference. A huge resurgence of interest in yoga is sweeping the western world. With its broad scope and holistic approach, 'Yoga Mind, Body&Spirit' is the ideal book to meet this interest.』
