What really sets it apart from many others I have read is the last chapter: Meditation in Daily Life. Almost every sentence in that last part of the book is a heuristic gem.』
(Great little book) 『I already had developed a meditation practice before I read this book. It helped answer questions that would arise. I advise my students to read this book for developing a meditaion practice.』 『A clear and easy to understand guide to the fundamentals of meditation.』

Instead the book took regular yoga poses, which you learn in any basic yoga class, and applied them to golf. Now there is nothing inherently wrong with that - its just that I expected something really focused on golfers - maybe my expectations were too high? I would recommend this book to people who have no concept of Yoga and need some flexibility and general physical conditioning improvement. However if you are an active person and have the possibility of attending Yoga classes then do that instead. You will learn everything this book has in the first class ...』
(Must Have!) 『If you're a golfer, you got to have this!
I've used the techniques described in the book and it works! I'm golfing better than I have in 20 years!
Highly recommended!』
(Two Thumbs Up!) 『I bought this book as a gift for my Grandpa and Dad they loved it - both say it knocked a few strokes off their game!』
(Different approach) 『What a great concept - using Yoga to improve golf. The poses are well illustrated and easy to understand. I am not sure of how it will affect my golfing yet - I may come back on that.』
(GREAT BOOK) 『I think this book is great. Helps with my performance tremendously. A must have for any golfer!!!』 『Relates specific selected yoga techniques to golf from the perspectives of physical and mental focus. Using easy to read, non-technical descriptions, illustrations and photographs. Douglas Mochrie, a Class "A" teaching golf pro has endorsed the book: saying "Hit your...ball farther. Enjoy golf more!...Learn how yoga can improve your game. The pictures clearly illustrate examples of the body positions and motions that correlate well with swings, chips, and putts."』

This book discusses similarities of the teachings of Jesus and Hindu spiritual scriptures. It gives the reader further insight on the true meaning and practice of Kriya Yoga. A reader who is well versed in Yogananda's teachings would find this book immensely helpful. For example, the reader would be able to judge for himself/herself that the true practice of Kriya Yoga is actually more intense than Yogananda's version.
It explains the reason why Swami Yogananda had to "dilute" his teachings to make the practice of Kriya Yoga more appealing to the West. If similar standards are used for the West, very few people (with absolutely no disrespect) would be able to follow them completely.
It also gives a detailed explanation in favour of Sri Yukteshwar's calculation of the Yugas and supports the Swami's theories with detailed explanation. This analysis does not deviate from the main theme of the book. Instead, it acts as a complement to this sacred science of Kriya Yoga.
In conclusion, this book is a must read for Self-Realization Fellowship members and followers of Swami Yogananda. This would definitely increase their understanding of the value in the practice of this ancient science.』 『For ages and ages Kriya had been the preserve of ascetics and saints who normally lived away from human society. The system was so highly esteemed and possibility of attainments by devotedly adopting it that the early masters thought only a very select and deserving few should be initiated into it lest the system was wrongly practiced and applied for earthly gains or lest the price-less technique was in any way tampered with or misinterpreted. Many sound religious and spiritual teachings have been found to have been turned into unwelcome banal and vulgar features and decayed in the long history of India’s spiritual efforts due to indiscriminate broadcasting of the teachings. The rigid attitude of the early Gurus of Kriya Yoga, even if it appears uncalled for and narrow today, saved the system from getting tarnished, debased and deviated from like many other valuable spiritual teachings.
The above barrier was, however, breached with the advent of Shyama Charan Lahiri on the scene, towards the middle of the last century, in 1861 to be specific. It was Lahiri Mahasaya’s large-hearted kindness and unbounded loving consideration for his fellow worldly men and women that wrought the miracle. His ardent prayers to his Guru ultimately softened the Guru and “the ice” was melted. He was allowed by his god-man Guru to initiate deserving and devotedly desiring persons, even a householder, into the secrets of Kriya. Thus it was Shyama Charan who became the fountain source of Kriya that spread gradually throughout the country and abroad. Kriya performers would always remember the ever-kind Lahiri Mahasaya for his munificence in this respect and worship his memory in their heart of hearts.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Helpful for understanding emptiness meditation) 『Although, I had only a beginners understanding of Tibetan Buddhism before I read this book, I felt myself easily acquainted with the analytical methods discussed in "Emptiness Yoga." Hopkins is able to elucidate complex philosophical and experiential topics concerning the meditative practices of Tibetan Buddhism so that anyone with a good philosophical background or an acquaintance with meditation will be able to gain a more profound understanding of emptiness. My only criticism is that I often felt myself being tantalized by what appeared, at least on closer inspection, to be over-simplistic analytical tools. Though, this is perhaps more a problem with the subject matter than the writer. I had always envisioned Tibetan Buddhism to be more experiential and subtle in its understanding of cause and effect and emptiness. Yet, perhaps further complexity is not within the scope of this book. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Buddhism or in attaining a more profound understanding of emptiness.』
(Enormously beneficial.) 『The essential text for Westerners interested in the Pransangika view of emptiness. Covers profound topics while maintaining clarity of prose.Best for those with some familiarity with Buddhist philosophy, but educational for beginners as well.』 『Hopkins deserves congratulations on making this difficult material on the nature of emptiness as transparent as possible.--Religious Studies Review』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (The pictures make the content easier to use) 『Just starting out at Yoga, and needing visuals other than video, I found this book very adept at helping me learn the poses. I have learned which ones do best for my impaired mobility in my back, and will be eager to learn as many as possible to be more flexible. The great photos, and precise instruction, and optional adaptions make this a book I will be able to use from beginner to accomplished yoga.』
(Maran Illustrated Yoga 05) 『I am very pleased with my purchase. I am new to yoga and found that videos go too fast for me and don't explain the postures and purpose of the poses enough. I can't afford continual classes (which would be great), so instead I took a 2 week series of 10 EASY classes and then bought this book. And I understand yoga poses, finally.
I recommend the classes first because the book doesn't use the same Sanskrit names for poses as they did in class (or even all the same English translations). However, the book thoroughly explains each posture and even has arrows over the photos to show which body parts should be pushing (EXTREMELY helpful for me!!). And each pose gets 3-4 photos detailing the progression of the body. Some Photoshop work also shows movement. The photos are wonderfully easy to understand.
The front section of the book has some brief historical and breathing info- not great but better than nothing. The back has some very useful sequences to follow that continually reference page numbers for correct pose posture (another stellar feature). I follow these sequences at my own painfully slow pace, constantly referencing posture pages for when to exhale and when to inhale and how to hold my shoulders, etc. Its great to have all that info in one place. This is a great way to learn yoga without being rushed.
I also looked at "Hatha Yoga Illustrated" in the store and while it had names I recognized and some basic poses, I determined much of it was too advanced for me. I think the Maran book does a better job covering a ton of poses and correct posturing and breathing, even if it doesn't names all the poses right.

(Great for beginner yoga teachers and students) 『This book has wonderful photographs as well as proper instructions on how to perform breathing exercises as well as Asanas. I use it to help guide me during the classes I teach with adults. I wonderful and practical book.』
(Invigorating!) 『My husband and I are trying to find something else other than swimming as an exercise. We swim often but with two preschoolers, it is hard to get moving in the mornings and out of the house to the local pool. We discovered this book and now we can practice yoga in the comfort of our own home. And it's fascinating and informative and let's say, invigorating!
I am new to Yoga. I have heard of it. But like a lot of people, I don't think it's "real exercise." I know, I know. I discovered that after we've done so many stretches and poses ~~ that it's actually exercise AND better yet, I've been sleeping a lot better since we've taken up yoga!
This book is beautifully photographed and the instructions are clear and precise. They are also easy to follow. What is even more helpful is at the back they have guides that you can follow ~~ like beginner practice 1, beginner practice 2, and so on. And every pose has a description of what it does and what it is for. It is extremely helpful to a novice like me!
My husband owns another yoga book and we both prefer this one over the other! If you're looking for something to supplement your exercise regimen, this book would be an excellent start!

IPhone 3G used's review (Simple, succinct and right on) 『Mr. Miller has captured the essence of using yoga postures and other techniques to ameliorate the bane of man's existence: those nagging, chronic pain sensations that seem to get us all at one point or another. I happen to be an occuptional medicine medical doctor and have seen tens of thousands of people for those very common aches and pains of which Mr. Miller writes. His advice is right on the money which is exactly what you'll save by using this book instead of buying potentially harmful drugs or paying for doctor appointment after doctor appointment. Of course, there is a role for medical attention. But there is also a heavily under-utilized role for self administered tender loving care in the form of these gentle therapuetic yoga postures and breath work. So free yourself self from the pain body and waiting rooms and get this book and (here is the most important aspect) APPLY it.』
(Simply brilliant) 『For those interested in simply finding relief from pain or discomfort Fred Miller has distilled the ancient practice of Yoga to bring it's benefits to the practical Western mind. Though it's written in a prescriptive format, all the exercises or postures are sequenced in such a way as to bring a deep overall sense of well-being. It's accessible, easy to understand and use. After all, as the author says, the best exercise is the one you do. I found relief from a nagging lower back discomfort through his simple formula that showed me that I was just plain doing the wrong things like stretching where it hurt. It's obvious that the author knows what he's talking about but he doesn't try to impress you with his knowledge, rather in the spirit of true wisdom he shares with humor and clarity. BUY it, even if you don't hurt!』 『This unique yoga therapy curriculum, developed by bestselling author Fred L.
