The views of each pose include the drishti and reminders of the bandhas. The breath count is included as well and will be helpful to the beginner. Suggestions for modifications are printed near the poses referred to. A brief essay on the philosophy is included as are mini chapters on the different "seasons" of a woman's life (almost no mention is made of menopause, however). The pictures are excellent but the print is very light and very small making it difficult to read. I would suggest having this as a second or third reference and using David Swenson's manual as a primary guide along with an authorized instructor. Another excellent guide is G. Maehle's new book: Ashtanga.Ashtanga Yoga: Practice and PhilosophyAshtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual: An Illustrated Guide to Personal Practice I would have given this 5 stars but it's not as thorough as it could be. Many women practice throughout their lives and the biggest transitions - perimenopause and menopause are barely hinted at.』
(Don't waste your money) 『Don't bother. I purchased this book after reading one of the reviews and was VERY disappointed. Save your money and buy the David Swenson "Practice Manual". My complaints? Almost NO modifications. At the end of the book, there are a couple of pages on pregnancy and menstruation, but you could read this information in Yoga Journal. The ONLY good part of the book is that it has pictures matched with the inhale/exhale. Otherwise, a waste.』
(Finally, a Yoga title book specifically for female practicer) 『I just began to practice Ashtanga yoga and there are so many Yoga related books out there, but none of them, until this one, is specifically for female practicers. It explains in detail what female Ashtanga Yoga practicers need mind during different stage of life - pregnancy, menstrual period, etc, - to adjust practice accordingly.
It's very helpful for female Ashtanga yoga practicers in general. However, there's some minor typo or mis-numbered error here and there in the book, it also doesn't include second series.
I strongly suggest female practicers to get this one as a second reference because in our life, there are times we need make adjustment accordingly.』
『

For that it has been so useful for me and my friends.』
(good but could be better) 『I agree with the reviewer who wanted to give this 2.5 stars.
This is an interesting book, and the topic it covers is one that needs to be addressed: a detailed analysis and instruction of intermediate and advanced asanas.
The book includes some photos of the asanas, and it includes an explaination of the position and how to get into it.
Unfortunately, it only includes a few pictures. I wish the author had included more pictures, including pictures of the different stages as the yogi/yoginis enter the picture. "Troubleshooting" information would also be useful. The book should be about 50% longer. It's not a bad book; it just needs more detail and more pictures.
Still, it's good for inspiration.
』
(I really want to rate this 2 1/2 stars) 『I was a little disappointed. Like the last reviewer I was hoping for EXTREME yoga like the title suggestied. Things I just can't do yet and some clues on how to get into the poses I can't do. The printing isn't great either and the yoga photos are not too inspiring and I even saw some things(being a dance instructor) I would have liked to correct on the yogis themselves! It is a great idea for a book though and I am hoping for more attempts. It is hard to find classes that teach "Extreme Yoga".』
(This book is for an intermediate practitioner not an advanced one) 『I bought this book thinking it would show some really challenging poses that i can't yet do. There were some "extreme" poses, but for the most part it wasn't worth the money I spent. However if you are an intermediate practitioner looking for a challenge then this book is for you, but if you already can do scorpion, legs behind the head, King pigeon, etc. then i would have you just get B.K.S. Iyengar's Light on Yoga or Dharma Mitra' Poster or book. There are more challenging postures in these books than in this one.』
(one step further) 『"Extreme Yoga" by Jessie Chapman is for those people who feel curious about the next step in their yoga practice. Even if you don't intend on doing all those "strange" poses, it's definetely amazing to see what the human body can do with hard work and discipline. The pictures are beautiful black and white, the setting is always the beach (gorgeous!), followed by a detailed description how to get into the pose and all the body parts that benefit from it. The language is simple and straight forward and shouldn't be any problem. I'm studying to be a yoga teacher someday and I can't do ALL of the poses shown here, but still, it's worth the effort. For all of you expert yoginis, this book is a must. And for all of you who are just starting, it's also good, it works as a perfect "goal to reach"...but be careful please! NEVER FORCE YOURSELF! I enjoyed it very, very much. Even just looking at the pictures and at the fit models (all of them expert yoginis): it served me as a challenge. 』 『
From the elastic flexibility of the pretzel-like War God to the unflinching strength of the floating-horizontally-on-arms-in-midair Peacock to the balancing act of the elbow-stand-with-feet-bent-backward-onto-the-top-of-the-head Scorpion,Extreme Yogapresents serious over-the-top postures that add challenge and excitement to the yoga practice of anyone who can handle them.
These poses push students to raise each aspect of their practice - breathing, focus, and physical technique - to a higher level. Unlike new variations of yoga that rely on heated rooms or aerobic sequencing to challenge the student,Extreme Yogaoffers traditional advanced postures that have been developed over the centuries by highly adept yogis.
After a brief introduction, the book presents each posture across a two-page spread. Opposite a full-page photo of the pose is a page with positioning tips, a short commentary on the benefits of the posture, and advice on breathing techniques and proper focus. A stunningly illustrated book,Extreme Yogafeatures an artistic presentation that inspires readers to take their practice to the next level.

Inner Traditions
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (a good book) 『This is a very good book, not just the typical nonsensical new age book about "tantric sex" or the ways to improve your sexual relations. It is a book written by a philosopher. A man who studied deeply and seriously the occult, and western and eastern spiritual disciplines. You may not agree with everything he says... but you have to respect him. In some parts it gets difficult. It may not be a book for everybody. Even if I do not understand everything, this is one of the book I long to read again』
(Controversial, but a serious and revealing work.) 『Julius Evola are indeed a controversial author. But this book must be readed with free mind, because it reveals too much of the metaphisics and of the inner tradition of Hindu and Buddhist Tantras. This book also are now the only source that compares the Hindu and ocidental spiritual traditions and show interesting points of coincidence. A high recomended lecture to the one who studies philosophy and religion.』
(Like CLIMBING a vertical glacier...) 『This book is just not worth the effort. I have no doubt that Evola was a tantric adept, but he was not a particularly good writer. He assumes a working knowledge of all sorts of tantric terminology, and the glossary is incomplete. He is maddeningly vague; I found myself re-reading sentences 5 and 6 times, just to figure out what his pronouns were referring to. He digresses from his digressions and whole trains of thought simply END without warning or resolution.
This book reads like some contemporary continental philosophy, but I get the impression that Evola was not merely an obscurantist. He was actually TRYING to communicate something with this book, he just wasn't successful.
Some of this could be forgiven as the result of poor translation, but some of it is also clearly the author's fault. He seems totally unconcerned with providing any textual support for his many bare assertions.
This book is of interest solely because of the author's scandalous life story, but you won't find any of that here. This is just a very, very boring manual for tantra.』
(What tantra is really about) 『When most people, in the West, think of Tantra, they think of sex magic. And usually that's all they think of. However the Western perception of Tantra as just sex magic is quite incorrect, as Mr. Evola shows us in this book on what Tantra really is. In this book you actually learn what the spiritual practices are behind Tantra.
For instance, you will learn about the various spirits that are worked with in Tantra as well the ideal goal of Tantra, which is not to succumb to passion, but to master it. Sex magic is just a part of that and is used to liberate the individual from the passion for sex, so that it becomes just another act to do. The elemental workings described in this book are particularly fascinating and useful for anyone who likes doing elemental workings. Evola does a good job of explaining how this system of magic works. He takes an in-depth look at the Tattvas, as well as the role of colors in the making of tattvas, and explains how the tattvas are used.
However, this book isn't necessarily for everyone. Evola's writing is complex. You will certainly find yourself rereading passages, as I did, just to be sure you understood what he was explaining. Nonetheless, such a book is wonderful for how it challenges you. The ideas you can take away from this book to your own practice are well worth the work you may have to, when reading this book. At the least you'll learn that Tantra is about more than just sex magic.』
(A View Good Book About The Occult of the East.) 『Evola turns to the East in his revolt against the modern world. This time he looks at the power of yoga. A friend from the Volksberg commune turned me on to this book. It ties well in with the Volkberg idea of mixing Odinism with the occult of the East. A lot of Eastern Pagan ideas tie into Asatru very seamlessly. This is a great book for both the student as well as the master of the occult. Wyatt Kaldenberg』 『Drawing from original texts on self-mastery, Evola discusses two Hindu movements--Tantrism and Shaktism--which emphasize a path of action to gain power over energies latent within the body.』

Babajis Kriya Hatha Yoga and Publications
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (The Meeting of the Paths of East and West) 『 This easy to read book with great illustrations outlines a blessed path of yoga, in an appropriate sequence for the exercise of the physical body and the interaction of the spiritual bodies and the chakras. It is a divine movement for the release of LIGHT!!! After practicing daily, I feel a joy that helps me bear the stress of daily life and my personal burdens. We also know that Babaji is a true master and not a false teacher so we can be confident that these asanas were given for our benefit and spiritual enlightenment. This is a jewel of a book but you must put it into action.』
(A basic guide to hatha yoga....) 『This book serves as an introduction to hatha yoga. This work is highly recommended to those who are interested in hatha yoga. When one follows ALL the instructions in this booklet with faith and reverence, one would progress very far spiritually as well as physically. However, for those who are already well versed in hatha yoga, there is nothing new to learn in this book.
This booklet describes the benefits for each of the poses and the counter-benefits for those not physically perfect in health. Thus, one must follow the instructions carefully and with discrimination.
I would also like to recommend the book The Art and Science of Raja Yoga: Fourteen Steps to Higher Awareness: Based on the Teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda" by Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters) for those who are interested in going deeper into yoga and the philosophy behind the poses.』
(Standard Hatha Yoga Exercises with Movement) 『This small book contains 18 yoga postures which are illustrated and described together with the benefits and contraditions of each. The main difference between these hatha yoga exercises and those available in other yoga books - is not in postures, but rather in the way that they are intended to be performed. While a standard yoga book may suggest that you hold a posture for a specific period of time, here the recommendation is to move within each specific posture (in a way it's like a rocking motion) - as the term "kriya" relates to "action".』
(Beginners Guide) 『This is a very basic introduction to 18 yoga postures, good for someone new to hatha yoga. For an intermediate or advanced practitioner, there is nothing new here.』
(Extremely detailed and a good resource.) 『This booklet has step-by-step instructions with diagrams of each step. Included are the specific benefits of each posture as well as who should avoid them due to individual health conditions. It is a great reference source but not practical to use as a walk-thru yoga session, as, frankly, it's hard to do yoga while holding and reading a book. It is well worth the money as a reference source.』 『This guide is designed as a hand book, wherein each stage in each posture is individually illustrated, and explained with easy to follow instructions. The numerous benefits of each posture in the healing and prevention of various disorders are also indicated. Rejuvenate yourself.』
IPhone 3G used's review (So helpful) 『I wish I would have discovered this book with my previous two pregnancies. I found the information helpful regarding childbirth and pain management. I got great relief from back pain (I had physical therapy that didn't work the first two pregnancies) and relaxation through the yoga practice. I would recommend this book to any pregnant woman. It has made my pregnancy much more enjoyable.』
(Recommended!) 『From about the 5th month of my pregnancy until I delivered my son I did yoga, using this book, 4-5 times a week. I loved it! I was able to relieve virtually all the aches and pains that crop up during pregnancy with one posture or another. And beginners can use this book - I had never done yoga before my pregnancy and this was easy to follow. I recommend following the author's suggestion to first read the book, then read the instructions for each posture you want to do into a tape recorder and then play the tape back as you do the exercise. The exercises strengthen you for delivery and also give you some quiet time to stay in touch with (and appreciate) all that's going on with your body.』 『Yoga strengthens, tones and relaxes the body, making it the ideal exercise for pregnant women. It's also a natural way to relieve the stress and discomforts that accompany pregnancy. This practical guide is filled with sound health information and easy-to-follow exercises for expectant mothers at every stage of pregnancy. Photos and illustrations.』
