『I have mild MS and can't move very strenuously. I wanted to try yoga but had some reservations about getting into eastern spiritual practices. My husband who is not at all into exercise found this to be a great way to start. The pictures of the poses make it easy and by describing a workout in specifics. It's easy to put together a routine even without a teacher. I would however prefer a video of the poses because it is hard to try to read instructions from a book as you're trying to do the poses.
This book however, is overall what I was looking for. Just an instruction manual not necessarily one that got into all the philosophy as does "Torah Yoga." That is a good companion for "Aleph-Bet Yoga" but Aleph-Bet is for those who are looking for a workout first and foremost.』

『Presumably aimed at an audience of observant Jews afraid that hatha yoga is the pork of exercise, which will steal their souls from Yahweh and deliver them to Shiva and Shakti, this Romper Room approach tries to coax reluctant couch latkes onto the mat by showing just how much the yoga poses resemble Hebrew letters. (Look Ma! I made an Aleph!)

One can practice hatha yoga without adopting the beliefs of Vedanta or Hinduism, just as a Hindu can eat a piece of gefilte fish without feeling an overwhelming urge to put on tefillin.

Anyone who wants to try to learn hatha yoga from a book instead of a class would be well advised to buy one of the texts written by a specialist. Any of the Iyengar books, for example, or Donna Farhi's excellent work, or Erich Schiffman's. There are also superb DVDs that will help one learn in the privacy of one's shtetl.

『The postures and letters didn't match the cross over, in my opinion. I perfer the meaning of the letter combined with the pose, a blending of the physical action to the spiritual meaning. I find if I set my Kavanah prior to the yoga I get this blend throughout. So I found this book a bit lacking, not a bad book but I enjoyed the Torah Yoga better. The meditations within are much more helpful to me personally.』

『Finally a yoga book that swaps the patchouli for a martini! I've been very reluctant to try yoga because of its heavy spirituality and intimidating "perfect" women, but much to my relief I didn't find gurus or supermodels in this clever little book. Instead, I found something far more pleasing and useful for me--yoga poses addressing my pains and problems, from the occasional hangover to insomnia,and yes, I must admit, the dreaded JIGGLY [...] ! It seems as if this book was written just for me. Last week, to put it mildly, I wanted to push my boss off a short pier (excuse the overused pun), but instead I opted to keep my job and do Pose 12 which cools anger and it worked! A few nights ago, after a spicy, bean-filled Mexican dinner, I found myself reaching for my trustworthy little book and getting into Pose 35 which relieves gas and bloating (the family appreciated this one).

Unlike other yoga books, Yoga to the Rescue separates poses into very useful categories, like Restore, Sanity, and Energy. There is even a Ragtime category which is great for those of us who suffer the monthly munchies to the blues.

I honestly have to say, I may have never tried yoga, if it wasn't for this uplifting, clever, user-friendly book!!! I highly recommend it to my fellow female yogaphobics; you will silently thank me after a spicy, bean-filled Mexican dinner.』

Hatha yoga, once the exclusive cultural property of an isolated ethic enclave, has today encircled the globe. 『Although the Angel Bear Yoga program does not use traditional names for poses et cetera, it's theme of positive character traits really has preschoolers interested. My three year old LOVES it, and she talks about all of the traits and poses she learns with everyone in the family. She likes to "define" them as well. I think it empowers her as well as fostering creativity, relaxation, and appreciation of nature.

The Card Deck is an excellent starting point, but the Main Lesson Book, Companion book, and DVD are wonderful tools for teachers to extend the lessons in other areas of learning.』

『I ordered this yoga card deck with the intention of using it with my three year old who loves the books "My Daddy is a Yoga Pretzel," "Little Yoga," and "Sleepy Little Yoga." We also use YogaKids together. I thought that she would like these cards because she enjoys animals, but the pictures are not as clear as in the books we use. Angel Bear's wings, which you can see from the product picture, distract from the poses. Also, though I initially thought my daughter would enjoy doing yoga with a bear, I think it's better for her to see pictures or illustrations of kids or grown-ups. She's only three, but she already realizes that animals' bodies are different from hers. Another thing to consider: this deck does not use any of the names for poses that you'd normally learn in yoga class or from a book. Each pose is renamed with a character trait like, "optimism," "creativity," "abundance." I think that could be confusing if you want your child to engage in yoga practice from other sources. I'd recommend the Yoga Pretzels deck over this one.』

『Every time I walked to and from work, this book's cover would catch my eye from the store window. Curiousity finally won out and I picked up a copy. I am so glad I did. It's amazing! I've tried so many other forms of Yoga, I can't believe it took me this long to get to Kundalini. This book is written from two perspectives; one from a Western doctors' and one from an Eastern Yoga teachers'. It is a really great combination. Together,they do an excellent job of specifically explaining Kundalini Yoga's many benefits to Women. It is detailed, but easy to understand. The energy and exercise sets are extremely rejuvenating and there is a spiritual component that I have reached a stage to be able to really appreciate. There is a ton of useful information here and I have just scratched the surface. I couldn't reccommend it more enthusiastically.』

『this book describes the best of both pilates and yoga. one of my favorite aspects of the book are the highlights of the body that show what is being worked with each move. as a pilates instructor i like that sort of information and feel it is helpful to participants. in the class there really is a place for both pilates and yoga as they both can help deliver optimal results in the quest for heightened mind body connections. this good for your library on the subject regardless of level.』

『In a 252 pages of artistic display of photographs and text, the authors strived to present the best of strengthening and flexibility exercise routines of modern times. They integrated yoga and Pilates in well explained historical and technical scenario that combines the Indian contribution by Iyengar and the German, by Pilates.

The following are general observation about the book content and style:

1- The authors do not claim that their book is a substitute for taking classes in yoga or Pilates. The authors displayed modesty and genuine reasoning in almost every aspect of delivering information to their prospective readers.

2- The book clearly states the need for refraining from eating for at least four hours before starting exercise. They even recommend waiting for three hours after taking a snack before engaging in exercise. That shows the real depth of the authors' insight into realistic fitness practice.

3- Each exercise is demonstrated by four to five colored photographs that occupy a separate page for each exercise with legible and well chosen title depicting the purpose of the exercise.

4- The language of the book is simple and accurate, which makes reading enjoyable.

5- The photographs are chosen to show close-up views of relevant parts of the body as well as overall views of poses. It shows the dedication of the authors to facilitating the understanding of alignment of spines and posture during the performing of technically challenging exercises.

6- The book has two sections that describe individual exercises on yoga and Pilates. That is followed by a separate section addressing designing daily routines.

In all, this book is a real addition to the literature on body and mind fitness. It offers practical solutions to the universal health problem of modern times; that is stress and anxiety. The authors have demonstrated the need for patience and consistent training in order to reeducate the body and mind to endure repetition and gain awareness about the bad habits acquired during routine daily activities. The number of authors and participant who contributed to this book has indeed poured their best knowledge and talent in neat and appropriate photographing, book design, and display of information.
