My copy arrived by mail. I felt the stork had dropped a bundle on my
doorstep. I so loved the first and later editions of Prenatal Yoga, and
was nervous to see how 'she' had matured.
First - the cover is delicious. Inside I found everything I always
loved about prenatal yoga. The photos. The YOGA. The stories. A poem I
treasure. Everything new in this book is ancient knowledge, wise words
which I as a woman need to read over and over again.
This book and I have a long 'herstory'. In 1975 to 76 I was a
pregnant teenager. My midwives in Santa Barbara loaned me their 1st
edition copy of Prenatal Yoga. I loved it so much that I bought one for
myself. Following Jeannine's simple instructions for centering and healing
my body through yoga, I achieved a blissful pregnancy, and an ecstatic
passage into motherhood.
I have always believed that, the quality of an expectant woman's fine level
of feeling during pregnancy, greatly influences the wholeness of the baby's
soul. Today, as I write, that first baby of mine, Déjà, is in
Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a U.N. delegate at the World Summit on
Sustainable Development. She is an advocate for human rights regarding
HIV/AIDS policies for the poor. Today I cannot help but wonder if the
quiet neck rolls, cat stretches, pythons, pelvic rocks and deep delicious
breathing I did, daily while she grew under my heart, had an effect.
The book Prenatal Yoga&Natural Childbirth, guided me through all
five pregnancies. I have lost this book so many times. Loaned it out,
given it away. Always when she comes home to me, I rejoice, and gobble up
each word.
As a midwife I plan to have many copies in my lending library. I do find
that the women I help who practice prenatal yoga, have smoother deliveries.
This makes my job less stressful. With the release of the silver
anniversary edition I am certain that the next generation of mothers and
their babies will be blessed. As a grandmother I intend to keep it on my
shelf forever.』

(One of a kind yoga book)
『Aaron has done an amazing job with this book, I really have a lot of respect for what he has done here.

To start off with this is not just a book about yoga postures, its a unique book, its amazing how much breath of useful information he is packed in this book, written in a very zen-like way, consise, insightfull and no-nonsense to the point.

For example, in one statement he indicates yoga is not something you do twice a week it has to be integrated in your every day routine just like brushing your teeth, taking a shower.

The highlights for me is the way he has structured the book covering everything from meditation, breathing, postures and relaxation.

I particularly liked the breathing and relaxation sections. He has a range of breathing techniques, I particularly liked the way he described breathing to be slow and deep, something I have not read anywhere before. Also he has covered a range of breathing, double breathing, gigong breathing etc.

The relaxation techniques are interesting eg. the zen walk a sort of walk where you put one foot infront of the other while inhaling and exhaling, sounds a bit silly until you do it and notice the concentratation, balance and focus required to do it, another zenlike exercise. Also he has combined progressive relaxation techniques with his breathing techniques.

I love some of the qoutes he used:

Overall a highly structured well thought out and research book, definately one that is usefull for both the beginner and advanced yogi.

『I sent this book to my aunt who was recently diagnosed with cancer and who is recovering from surgery. She had some prior experience with yoga before she was diagnosed, but was fearful of resuming her home-based practice because she was not sure how to proceed, given her new diagnosis and her recovery process.

My aunt called to thank me and said that this book is one of the most helpful resources she has found. The written words gave voice to her cancer experience and gave her the confidence to start practicing yoga again. The instructions on breathing were incredibly helpful and she would recommend this book to others living with cancer who want to be proactive about their recovery.

A few years ago I had the great honor of practicing yoga with Lisa's guidance. She is an amazing person who brings her yoga practice into her life and her life into her practice. When I bought her book I never imagined that I would be sending it to someone I love so dearly. I know I cannot change my aunt's diagnosis or make her well, but sending her a gift that I know is helping her cope better with the road ahead brought me great relief.

『i bought this book as i was preparing to begin teaching yoga at a cancer center. i'm a certified teacher with lots of experience in yoga as therapy, but have little experience working with the physical, emotional and mental effects of cancer and wanted insight into how it feels to have cancer and what limitations one comes up against depending on what type of cancer is present. i found the text content about the experience of cancer to be helpful in my preparations, but the asana seemed dry and predictable and lacking in images of modifications. after working with the patients, it dawned on me that any book that teaches gentle yoga is just as good as this if you are viewing it purely from an asana standpoint. the way i teach is student-centered and individualized for the life experience of the student, so there is no broad formula that can be applied. i was looking for more specific information on modification for people with ports, recent surgeries and drug side effects and i still haven't found a resource that merges medical science with gentle asana, pranayama and meditation (in something smaller than a textbook!). The pictures are helpful, the sorting of postures is intuitive, the text is real and the design is attractive, but if you're looking for something more than a picture book of gentle asana, this might not meet your needs.』

(Fantastic yoga book)
『I am an oncologist being treated for breast cancer. I've done yoga off and on for years, but mostly haven't been up to going to classes during my treatment. The sequences in this book have helped a lot with both the mental/emotional stress of treatment and the stiffness of being less active than usual. Although it is a little challenging to do yoga from a book, I like the greater flexibility and ability to take things at my own pace compared to videos.

Some of the features I like:
-excellent introduction to breathing and meditation
-good guidelines for how to listen to your body and practice safely during your treatment
-sequences of poses of varying difficulty level (including one sequence that is all seated in a chair) so you can tailor your routine to what you feel up to, or combine them for a longer practice
-each pose is illustrated with 2 photographs, contains clear instructions on how to set up properly and good instructions on how to focus your mind and body during the pose. Almost as good as having a teacher with you!

Highly recommended for people new to yoga, and for people familiar with yoga who need a modified home practice during their cancer treatment. Namaste.』

(Practical&spiritual)
『This wonderful little book demonstrates how to integrate the spiritual principles of yoga into the challenges of the business world. Exercises featuring mudras (hand positions) and mantras or chants designed to address specific challenges including anger, self-esteem, stress and prosperity are presented with photographs and detailed instructions. The exercises do not require tremendous flexibility or athletic prowess--you do not have to become a human pretzel to master them. They are effective and fun and not terribly time-consuming unless one wishes to make a discipline. I appreciated the beautiful photographs that are featured throughout the book. They are both calming and exhilerating.

My quibbles are few. First is the size of the book. Although it is compact and therefore easy to slip into a briefcase or handbag, it is difficult to prop open without damaging the binding--something that is necessary when learning some of the exercises. At times it is dificult to see the mudra being demonstrated by the model in the photograph with the actual exercise and it becomes necessary to consult the mudra section in the back. And finally, this is one of those books that would benefit by including a CD of the mantas. This would assist in correct pronunciation and mastering the melody.

I strongly recommend this book both for its efficacy and for making yoga easily accessible in a stress filled forum.



(Simple work, fast results)
『This excellent book is unlike any other yoga book I've seen (and I've read dozens and looked at probably hundreds). The focus is on simple hand postures (mudras) combined with breath and chanting to create fast results. The hand gestures are said to open and or balance the body's energy channels to enhance particular personal qualities, such as awareness, relaxation, happiness, cooperation, etc. One drawback is that the chants are in Sanskrit and feel awkward to this westerner's mouth. They don't sound or feel natural and only a few of them seem accessible enough to actually use. Nevertheless, there's obvious value in them -- when I chant the syllable "Ma," it vibrates and opens my heart, just as the author says it does. I find myself using the book nightly for 20 to 30 minutes, doing several of the postures and meditations, but only a few of the chants. With practice I'm increasing the time I spend with individual postures, but even doing them for a few minutes each makes me feel better. The posture for happiness definitely works. After holding the position for only a few minutes I can feel my mood becoming light and full of joy and humor. I borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much I bought a copy because I want to spend a lot more time with it.』
