I only wish to add, because it may be of interest to some readers and is not discernable from the promotional material, that Cozart discusses the matter entirely from the Geluk perspective. Readers interested in Sakya and Kagyu perspectives will have to look elsewhere.』
(A straightforward discussion of the methods to transform one's body and mind through the highest forms of tantric practice) 『Professor of Religion Daniel Cozort offers the fruits of his studies with numerous Tibetan lamas in Highest Yoga Tantra, a straightforward discussion of the methods to transform one's body and mind through the highest forms of tantric practice, as applied in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Part One offers an introduction to the practices common to sutra and tantra, Part Two presents the generation stage of Highest Yoga Tantra, Part Three studies the completion stage yogas (physical isolation, verbal isolation, mental isolation, illusory body, clear light, and unison), and Part Four compares the Kalachakra and Guhyasamaja stages of completion. Highest Yoga Tantra offers a clear-minded, no-nonsense scrutiny of the meditation disciplines requisite to advanced practices of Tibetan Buddhism, and is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning more about or personally experiencing the highest tantras. 』
(An exoteric-esoteric tradition faithfully continues) 『Daniel Cozort studied with Jeffrey Hopkins at the University of Virginia. I believe that this book is an outgrowth of his thesis work there. I have the UVa Press edition and I am very happy to see Snow Lion Press pick this up.
As the previous reviewer mentions, if you have an empowerment, it would make the material here a little more accessible. However, even without one, the metaphorical descriptions like "moonlight on water" will help you get a taste for what Cozort has so faithfully translated.
I believe this is this first time this tantra has been made available to the Western reader. (If the author reads the reviews here, I have been waiting for years now for you to translate more of these jewels.)
Tantra is meant to be lived and, perhaps, "rehearsed", not merely read. Cozort, remarkably, maintains the exoteric/esoteric intent of the original author. For the seeker, it is art, poetry, psychology, drama, and philosophy...more than enough to make you want to know more. For the initiated, it is a reliable roadmap, often urgently needed.
While there are dozens of basic and general books on Tibetan Buddhism, it is great to see something a little more advanced being written for the Western reader. Hope to see much more from this promising author.
(An aside to the previous reviewer: As I know it, Vajrayana uses desire in the path. As such, it may be well-suited to a typically outward Western livestyle. You may not have to adapt the beggar's bowl at all to successfully practice it.)』
(Direct from the Twilight Zone) 『Are you interested in this sort of thing? Try reading books about the Big Bang if you are having trouble with emptiness. Emptiness and bliss are the two main themes in this book. So what about bliss? I experienced bliss quite spontaneously after reading this book. I would not be able to repeat the experience, but I did experience it. Read this book and see what you think. At first , it seems like so much mumbo jumbo. It takes an empowerment to study this Yoga. Who knows? Perhaps you will sell all your material belongings and begin the path. Good luck!』 『Exciting in its detail, this extraordinary book clearly outlines and discusses the methods for transforming both bosy and mind through the highest forms of trantric practice. Highest Yoga Tantra is the pinnacle of the Tibetan Buddhist tantric systems.』

As a student/client I would be totally driven away by the cheap "used car salesman" tricks used in this book.
The selling style portrayed may have worked in the 80's but is too pushy and arrogant for today's informed student/client.
I feel that the author tries to make a "how to sell yoga" book out of notes from a "how to sell gym memberships" which is not the same thing.
One last thing that really got to me was the way EVERY yoga name was misspelled, from "Patanyali" to "Astanga" and "Kudalini". It really made me think that this guy hasn't got a clue about yoga.
He must be a good salesman thought, he did manage to sell this book to me, but thanks to amazon review system, I have the chance to say it was a TOTAL waste of money.』
(Heart and Soul of Yoga Teaching.) 『This is a nice book on the more fast pace selling of health and fitness as a big business. It gives insight into the pace and skills someone needs if they are out to make a lot of money on the yoga fad. However, being a more serious teacher of the heart and soul of yoga, it does not add much philosophically to the ethics of teaching and sharing in the traditions of yoga according to the great masters and gurus. I was left feeling that "making the sale and always be closing" are the most important aspect of the yoga business.Of course, this is the title of the book. This book is good for the yoga teacher and studio owner who will only be in the yoga business until the next great fad comes along.』
(Priceless tips!) 『This book offers numerous great tips for marketing yoga services. Well worth the price and more!』 『“Selling Yoga” is an income-producing system that was created to help yoga instructors and yoga studio owners in the industry improve their ability to mature and expand in the business. This book was written in a basic form from information that has been tried, tested and enhanced. Many bookshave been written on how to implement an effective way to become successful in business many books may cover the latest and newest when it comes to starting a business. This book, however, actually teaches real techniques used by the most successful operators in the yoga industry. These proven techniques have escalated the experts to the top of their game, on the business side! YOGA FOR WOMEN is the first book I've ever found that has inspired me to practice at home. The explanations are so well written and the visuals are very clear that it's easy to design your practice to fit your specific needs rather than relying on an instructor. A wonderful guide for women of all ages!』
(Outstanding Yoga for Women) 『I truly love this book. In fact, I ordered copies for gifts to friends. The illustrations and instructions are easy to follow. I really enjoyed the side notes』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Not Thrilling) 『As a Christian yogini, I was intrigued by this book. It makes perfect sense that the inner quiet brought on by an asana practice could be fused with Christian worship. However, I have to say that I found the exercises very basic and a little...well, cheesy. Also, the CD left much to be desired. There could at least be some nice music. In my opinion, you are much better off just to choose your own prayers and scriptures to use in conjunction with your personal practice. However, for a beginner who does not mind the cheese factor, it might be ok. I do appreciate the fact that Nancy Roth has created a work that helps to destroy the myth that yoga and Christianity can not coexist.』
(Great book for new yogis) 『This is a great getting started book. It walks you through the Son-Salute as a morning prayer- until you do it you can't imagine how good it feels to begin your day with such simple stretches that help you present your day to God.』
(5 Stars If Beginner) 『I would have rated this book 5 stars except for the phrase in the publisher's description that said it was ideal for "advanced practitioners." I'm not exactly advanced since I still can't do lotus, but I have practiced for a few years and so all of the postures were very introductory to me.
That being said, the book greatly enhanced my practice because of the encouragement and direction from the author for incorporating Christian faith and nearness to God in one's practice. The thoughts for meditation offered during the relaxation phase were deep and beautiful and worth the cost of the book. So, it is "ideal for advanced practioners" if what you're looking for is direction for Christ-centering your practice.
The text portions offer lots of options for doing the stretches/poses, which makes this an especially good book for anyone with physical limitations (or beginners). It's also an excellent book for anyone desiring to develop a Christ-centered yoga practice.』
(Boring CD) 『When I found this book&CD on Amazon I was excited because I attend yoga classes at my gym, but I was really seeking to have some "quiet time" with God in the process of all that wonderful stretching. I read through the book&was excited to put in the cd. When I did, I was dissapointed. I was expecting nice music or the narrator reading some of the scripture mentioned in the book, etc. Instead there was NO music, No scripture, and not an adequate amount of time to let you get a complete stretch or concentrate on something other than moving your arm to the next position. Bottom line, if you're looking for a good audio yoga CD that focuses on God&streching with some nice relaxing music - this is not for you. BUT if all you are looking for is a Christian yoga book with very basic stretches&a couple of scripture references - this book/CD is for you.』
(Good introduction to yoga, Christian or otherwise) 『Why learn yoga from an Episcopal priest? Rev. Roth may not be Hindu guru, but she manages to explain 25 Hatha Yoga postures (asanas), helped with clear line drawings by Susan John Mangam, in a way that even complete beginners will understand. Plus, as a lapsed Episcopalian, I was amused by the idea of learning yoga from an Episcopal priest. Rev. Roth offers many ideas about incorporating God and worship into the postures, which may be helpful to practicing Christians. As a practicing Scientologist, however, I am waiting for the day that someone writes a Scientologist yoga book incorporating the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard. As our great founder and leader taught us, we can only reach enlightenment through auditing, so I don't know how to reconcile the truth of Scientology with the practices of yoga, although in "The Hymn of Asia", L. Ron Hubbard did imply he was the Maitreya, or future Buddha, so I'm sure a reconciliation is possible. I certainly hope so, because I have benefited enormously from yoga, almost as much as I have benefited from Scientology. Only 10 more Intensives and $53,200 to go to Clear!』

It gives you advice on how to make changes to improve your daily life. The bookcover looks mysterious, but most of it is not about religion, so no matter your faith you can get a lot out of it. I highly recommend it!』
(nothing too new) 『Some good observations which have been seen in many places before.Perhaps, however, Mr. Marchand's way of stating it may be just the way someone needs, but for me it was old material rehashed.』
(Working with your emotions - and having them work for you!) 『This is a great book that introduces the spiritual practice known as Rasa Sadhana, or the Yoga of the Emotions. Rasa Sadhana is a practice which names the Nine Key Emotions in two categories: agreeable and disagreeable. The premise is to reduce one's need or involvement with the less agreeable emotions of anger, disgust, sadness and fear, and enhance the agreeable emotions of wonder, calmness, love, courage and joy.
Peter Marchand brings this practice to life with practical examples and suggestions to reduce or enhance these emotions. Of course reading the book isn't enough, it takes courage (one of the agreeable emotions) to begin to integrate these practices on a daily basis and reap the very positive and tangible results. However reading about them is the first step, it cultivates awareness and actually I felt remarkable peaceful after reading the chapter on CALM. This book is a must for anyone hoping to bring yogic awareness into one's emotional life, it will save you $$$ on psychotherapy and be an invaluable tool for mastering your emotions within interpersonal relationships, at home, at work and at play.』 『
A guide to changing negative emotions and promoting happiness using traditional Tantric and Ayurvedic practices
• Details the 9 Rasas that represent our basic emotions
• Offers emotional fasting exercises and daily routines for emotional well-being
• Shows how Rasa Sadhana can be integrated with other yoga practices
• Based on the teachings of Harish Johari
Rasas are the essence of our emotions that exist in both the body and the mind. The Tantric tradition recognizes 9 Rasas that represent our basic emotions: love, humor, wonder, courage, calmness, anger, sadness, fear, and disgust. Those who practice Rasa Sadhana learn to overcome negative emotions in order to pursue better health, enhanced spiritual growth, and enduring happiness.
Our emotions are continuously affected by the interplay of our senses, the elements, food, and the life force in our body. InThe Yoga of the Nine Emotions, Peter Marchand offers many practical physiological and philosophical tools from Tantric and Ayurvedic traditions that can help readers change their emotional patterns. He explains the nature and purpose of each Rasa and how we can strengthen or weaken one Rasa through another. He also offers Ayurvedic cooking guidelines and daily routines for balancing sensory input and strengthening emotional health, including fasting from negative emotions as well as how to energize positive ones. As we master our emotions through the practice of Rasa Sadhana, we gain true control of our lives and our relationships with others.

Nischala speaks from the heart in language that is conversational and inviting. She shares inspiring personal experiences of tapping into the various aspects of yoga as she travels the world with her healing message.

(Great for the Beginner or Seasoned Yogi) 『This book has a little bit of everything. It's a perfect book for a person new to yoga, who wants to learn the basics. It's also a great book for a Senior who wants a gentle approach to yoga. It discusses aspects of breath, meditation, and the physical practice of yoga. It also focuses on stress relief and heart health. I real gem.
I have bought several copies of this book to give to relatives.』
(Helpful in healthcare) 『I took her certification training and received the book at Ananda in California. I have shared the book with open minded pathophysiology instructors at The University of Utah College of Nursing. It is so helpful to have adapted poses to offer people of "less than perfect" bodies. Yoga has been so helpful to my patients on numerous levels. I also got to hear a testimony from one of the participants of the Dean Ornish Program on which she collaberated. He was inspiring by reaffirming the benefits of yoga came to him even without his appreciation for or acceptance of Eastern philosophies. But peace and healing came to him nonetheless. What an inspiration Nischala, her course and her book have been for me.』
(The Healing Path of Yoga) 『Finally, a book on Yoga that is based in the spirit. And for real people. It has amazed me to see that some very simple practices could actually do what modern medicine was not able to do. The stories are imspiring as is the antidotal information. As a person recovering from a life threatening illness it has become my bible. I taught me compassion for myself and for others. I am looking forward to Devi's next book.』
(Pathetic!) 『Had I read the reviews more critically, I would never have bought this book. From these reviews it is clear that Ms. Devi has popularized yoga, and in so doing, has trivialized yoga. Her earthy-crunchy, anecdotal babbling throughout the book makes this an excruciating read. I have never written a negative review of a book, but this book is an abomination.』 『Stress is now considered the foremost contributor to poor health and a major factor in causing heart disease, cancer, and a myriad of chronic and acute diseases. This book will make yoga a fundamental part of your quest for wellness and well-being, whether you are a novice or a current pactitioner.
Nischala Joy Devi, a pioneer in the field of alternative healing and a renowned yoga expert, has spent years helping people realize the healthful and stress-controlling benefits of yoga. In 1982 she developed yoga-based retreats for Dr. Michael Lerner's now famous Commonweal Cancer Help Program. That same year Dr. Dean Ornish asked her to create a program of yoga practices for patients suffering from heart disease. Yoga's contribution to the success of both programs has been astounding.
Devi shares her years of experience working with the healthful benefits of yoga, teaching visualizations, breathwork, and meditation, as well as providing the classic steps and illustrated instructions for yoga's physical poses. The Healing Path of Yogauses timeless Indian-based yoga techniques and philosophy, along with Devi's lifestyle-altering regimen, to create one extraordinary program with the power to rejuvenate and heal. The Healing Path of Yogapresents the key to:preventing disease and stress in healthy people aiding in recovery from heart disease, cancer, and other illnesses physical conditioning and weight loss deep, healing relaxation techniques heightened overall wellness of body, mind, and spirit』 『It's not surprising that yoga has become a highly popular pastime in 21st-century America. "Recent medical research by well-known clinicians shows that stress is a major factor in causing heart disease, cancer, and a myriad of chronic and acute diseases of today's world," according to author and revered instructor Nischala Joy Devi, who has pioneered yoga programs for heart specialist Dean Ornish and cancer specialist Michael Lerner. "While the stressful events around us may not change, we can learn how to respond quickly to life's difficulties, maintaining our equilibrium and a sense of well-being."
Although the practice of yoga can create this well-being and has even been associated with reversing serious medical conditions such as hypertension and heart disease, Devi never makes grandiose promises. Instead, she shows readers how yoga can be realistically integrated into a contemporary lifestyle. Forget the contorted poses and mysterious religious overtones associated with yoga. Think "attitude adjustments" as Devi offers suggestions for opening the heart, achieving deeper rest and relaxation, breathing more effectively, and learning to meditate. Toward the end she addresses the physical plane with a well-illustrated routine ofeasyphysical poses (asanas) as well as chapters on "Eating for Wholeness" and "Prelude to Sleep." Devi is indeed a masterful yoga teacher. Not only does she blend Eastern philosophy with Western living, she does it in a way that is grounded, approachable, and thoroughly welcoming for people from all walks of life.--Gail Hudson』
