(Excellent DVD yoga workout)
『I got this for my first pregnancy...I didn't know anything about yoga and really wanted to be fit and have a natural childbirth. I had read that learning how to relax your muscles during labor helps it be more efficient and less painful so I did the yoga as faithfully as I could. I found that if I concentrated I could make areas of my body that were tense relax while doing the yoga poses on this dvd and afterwards I felt so good. When I was in labor (I had the baby without any meds!) I used those skills that I learned as I breathed and concentrated on relaxing each muscle when I wanted to tense them up. It was amazing. After the baby I have done regular yoga workouts. Anyway, this particular dvd is nice because it doesn't move too fast - you have enough time to concentrate and get the pose right. You are encouraged to do your best but not hurt yourself. As you learn the routines it becomes almost like a friend - you pop the dvd in and know that at the end of your workout you will feel so much better. I felt so much stronger by the end of my pregnancy and didn't have a lot of the pains that other women complain of. I am expecting again and couldn't find the dvd anywhere so I just ordered it again and can't wait to get started - and stay strong throughout my pregnancy. As my midwife told me, you can be healthy but not fit - which doesn't do as much for you in the long term or your baby - it's so worth it to be healthy AND fit. This is a simple way to gain strength instead of "letting it all go" and having to work so much harder afterwards! :-)』
『Yoga for Pregnancy recognises that pregnancy yoga is quite different from regular yoga, being much softer and less strenuous on the body. Theresa Jamieson takes you through the exercises, with the specialised needs of the pregnant woman foremost, and shows you how to establish and maintain flexibility, tone and strength throughout pregnancy while preparing for labor and childbirth. This kit contains a 64-page full-color book with clear instructions about the postures and techniques to ensure your time doing yoga at home is always safe. The DVD gives you the opportunity to do yoga classes in the comfort of your home. It is conveniently divided into three separate programs that can be done either on their own, or in conjunction with each other. Practicing yoga during pregnancy is safe and gentle way to enjoy light exercise and relaxation, even if you've never done yoga before.』

(Healthy guidebook)
『What an excellent job of writing a very professional book! This book provides very healthy information for men and women of all ages. And who wouldn't enjoy seeing so many pictures of the beautiful author!!

(Good For Beginners)
『I bought this book for the title and thought it would be a good way to do yoga with my boy friend. And sure enough it was. We don't know anything about yoga but tried some of the poses meant to improve certain sex positions shown in the back of the book and had fun to say the least. The instruction is clear, precise and detailed with lots of descriptive pictures. While I thought the book would be just a good gag, we actually learned much yoga. The instruction of how to blend yoga into bedroom experimentation helped me and my boyfriend find a new favorite position in bed we never thought possible. Which actually motivated me try the routines in the book, which I find more helpful in feeling sensual than I thought possible. Good for yoga beginners and up and those looking to get over their stiffness problems.』

(The amazing Rodney Yee)
『The book by the amazing Rodney Yee is easy to follow. In the short time I have been practicing, what a difference. For a positive life change, this is a must purchase.』

(Lack of warnings is a great thing!)
『Guys have you not seen so many western yoga books intellectualizing and analyzing aspects and giving tips like the angle should be 27.5 degrees, dont do if you have head ache - I was like what are these guys doing? it is so refreshing to read Rodney Yee's book - it is a Gem. No unneccessary disclaimers, contraindications, warnings that drive people way from even thinking about starting a practice. This is one of the best western books written on asanas.
If you are a beginner - for every asana he has given three versions - just do the first version and you are good.』

(Great Yoga book)
『Excellent photos and instruction. Easy to follow. Best book in my Yoga library. Highly recommended. If you are a beginner or advanced yoga enthusiast you will enjoy this.』

(Love it)
『I have bought a number of yoga books and videos over the years, many of which sit unused on my shelf. I find this book to be completely inspiring. It makes me want to practice at home. Seeing the many beautiful pictures of Rodney's perfect form helps me tremendously. I would not recommend it for a complete beginner, because I think you should have a basic familiarity of the poses so you don't hurt yourself. But for someone who has a basic knowledge of the poses and has been putting off practicing at home, or doing more challenging poses at home, like me, this is a wonderful book. I like that you can go at the pace of your own breath rather than trying to keep up with a video. Thanks Rodney and Nina for a great job!』

(Great for Beginners)
『I think that this is THE book for beginners. I have tried many DVD's and other books, and this is the best. It is really an 8 week introduction to basic yoga. The book starts with the easier standing poses, and works from there. Each week you begin by trying the poses featured that week three ways: first, you try the pose the easiest way with props and supports (like blankets, yoga bricks, a wall or chair for balance, etc.); the second way is with a little less support; and the final way is the pose without support. This is a great approach, because it allows you to do the yoga at your pace and ability: you can do the tree pose holding onto the wall if need be, bend your knees during downward dog, do a modified backbend without lifting your head and shoulders off the floor, and begin headstand (much later in the book) by walking your feet up the wall, etc. This is much better than jumping into a dvd where you are already supposed to know how to do it. After you have tried all the poses with modifications, and without, if you are able; the rest of the days of the week feature two poses each in particular to focus on, along with review. Everything is covered in detail with pictures, all the poses, with modifications and without, and how to do a sun salutation and so on. The pictures are beautiful and clear and the book is written in Rodney Yee's encouraging style. Best of all, you can take your time getting into a pose and do not have to worry about keeping up with a dvd. I have no experience in yoga, and I love this book. I am 38 years old.』
Internationally renowned yoga instructor Rodney Yee is the instructor of more than 26 best-selling yoga videos. In Moving toward Balance, he outlines an eight-week program of yoga postures, meditation, and breath awareness designed to lead us toward the emotional and physical balance we all crave in life. Each week introduces a new category of poses--forward bends, twists, backbends, inversions shown with variations to accommodate different levels of strength and flexibility. Along with the instruction, the text explains the significance of each pose and how it contributes on physiological and psychological levels to a complete sense of balance.

At the core ofMoving toward Balanceis its emphasis on a home practice, enabling you to focus on what works best for your own body. Suitable for yoga students of any level, each lesson is illustrated with full-color photography and is laid out in sequential order, so there is no need to flip back and forth to follow along. There are also chapters on customizing your basic practice to address specific concerns such as lower back pain or PMS, as well as ideas to help keep your newfound practice thriving. Filled with years of Rodney's teaching expertise and more than 300 photographs,Moving toward Balanceis the link that you've been searching for between the classroom and the home.

(Excellent Yoga guide!)
『An Indian would know if a good Yoga book came along. Well, my Dad claims this is one of the best books he has come across. From the instruction he was given on Yoga and the notes, it seems like the book was written based on those. Definitely highly recommended.』

(The PERFECT Yoga Gift)
『This book is ideal for the average person wanting to know the basics about yoga. It gives an overview of the theory behind it, and discusses many styles of yoga in a very non-threatening way. Some yoga books can be too "out there", but this one is presented in a really down-to-earth style.

I've bought this book to give to friends and family who are brand new to yoga.

Not recommended for the advanced or seasoned yogi. It is really intended as an introduction to yoga.』

(Keep it simple, but not stupid.)
『Like many people, I started experimenting with yoga tapes and DVDs but really didn't look at it as being anything other than a form of exercise. This book introduced me to the rest of of it. It is clear, concise and a wonderful introduction to yoga, yogic philosophy and meditation. If you are just starting, this will help to guide you to the type of yoga you wish to explore further. In addition to the philosophy, it also shows you examples of the different forms of yoga, teaches you types of mantras and suggests ways of meditating. It has an extensive resource list at the end of the book which I also found helpful.』

(In Addition to your Workout Videos)
『Since the world often moves too fast and we become stressed just trying to keep up with what we expect from ourselves, it is nice to sometimes give yourself a break and do a yoga routine that allows you to escape the normal and enter the spiritual.

Yoga seeks to harmonize the body, mind and spirit. You can choose just to enhance your life with the exercises and stretching and I have found that is enough for me. However, this book does give you some insight into the roots of Yoga and gives you a more complete picture of why exercise is important for your health.

Yoga can give you relief from pain and stress. It can enhance your emotional well-being and give you clarity. You seem to observe life slightly differently and have a calm sense of peace.

"Yoga is an elegant, time-honored system for engendering a sense of vitality, well-being, and peace. Whatever your age, state of health, state of mind, or lifestyle, you will find insights and techniques in these pages that will help you lead a healthier, more fulfilling, and more joyful life." -Deborah Willoughby

In the first section, the author explores the ancient beginnings of yoga. In the second section, she explains the traditional to contemporary forms. Then, she explains the meditation side of yoga which I have not tried. Part four delves into recipes and healing foods. The last section explores how yoga changes perceptions of the world.

Throughout this book there are exercises, however I would recommend purchasing a video if you are really going to try them.

Alimacgraw Yoga Mind&Body is the best Yoga video I have found so far. It is filled with gorgeous scenery and helps to create a sense of peace. Karen Voight has a workout video called: YogaSculpt. I can also recommend her Body Reform series that combines the teachings of Joseph Pilates, yoga and body-sculpting techniques. If you travel with your laptop, you can take along Living Yoga DVDs (Rodney Yee, Patricia Walden and Suzanne Deason) and a few props. Suddenly your computer turns into a traveling workout station when you are on the road. Look for ASIN: B00004I9Z1 and ASIN: B00002EPXL.

Once you read this book, you will easily be able to recognize the yoga poses and you might even find that if you tend to shy away from abrupt exercise, these new smooth flowing sequences give you a whole new feeling of peace while giving your body
a full workout.

Yoga looks easy, but in fact, some of the yoga poses require great flexibility and a sense of calm endurance. You have to work your way into the poses, however once you master something like "Bow pose (Dhanurasana) pg. 124, you can't help but feel you have accomplished something.

This book is more of an overview and is not necessarily a book you would use daily to exercise with. You would want a book with more details and more poses. Try the "workout video" option and refer to this book for extra information as needed.

Some great ideas on how to make yourself feel calm in stressful situations. There is a page of pointers for a healthy work day and a section on dealing with repetitive stress.

Yoga Practice is really a gift to yourself. Of all the exercises I've tried, Yoga is the most fulfilling and leaves me in a more relaxed state, ready to face the next challenge.

~The Rebecca Review』

(A beautiful book!)
『If you want a liberal arts education in yoga, this is the book for you! It gives a brief overview of just about everything related to yoga from the different styles of yoga to meditation, health tips, and even eating. For the person who knows nothing about yoga or the person who has practiced yoga without learning the background, this book fills the knowledge gap.

The serious yoga practitioner will probably want to go into more detail and will want to purchase a second book, but this is a great way to become yoga-literate.』

『This is a great book to learn some breathing techniques and become focused prior to doing any scuba diving! Not to mention there are some great yoga poses for those of you that are just into that. Plus it's a very inexpensive book, well worth it!』

(Pretty good)
『This book has colored pictures that are large and easy to follow. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. The exercises are labeled as beginner, all levels, advanced, etc. There are variations to many exercises, which is great. Overall I am happy with my purchase.』

(Play, not work!)
『Liz Gillies goes into a bit of background on the theoretical stuff. Although most of the exercises are not new, what stands out is the sense of fun she has when working out with the exercise ball, making it less work&more play. This makes me want to do more of them,&more often. This, coupled with exercises' effectiveness, has already made a difference in my posture&the way I carry myself, after only 3 weeks of 3x a week exercise. Thanks Liz. About that cat stance on the ball... I did it! Only for less than a second though, but in time...』

(Very Good!)
『I love this book...it covers all my needs for exercising on the ball so far. Great for beginners or advanced people. Just wish it were spiral-bound! It would be more durable and easier to use while I'm learning all the exercises.』

(the best, with pictures for every workout!)
『I really enjoy reading this book because it gives a description of how to do the workout, how to position your body, what muscles your working, and even shows a picture of Ms. Elizabeth Gilles posing on the ball for every 101 workouts! I have tried most of these workouts on my ball at work, I work at Curves, and I really enjoy them, I even show my customers a few workouts on the ball and they enjoy them too! I makes me look smart!』

(Great reference for stability ball exercises)
『Elizabeth Gillies, known previously for her work on instructional videos/DVDs for Pilates and the balance ball, has an extensive background in movement, including ballet, modern dance, Pilates and even performing with a circus. She's taken all of that and translated many familiar exercises to the stability ball (as well as invented a few of her own).

Gillies' training in anatomy and years of instruction really show here. She uses clear, descriptive language as well as many tips and cues that immediately help the reader figure out what muscles they should (and shouldn't) be activating.

While there are a lot of books out there for the stability ball (both Pilates-based and "gym-style"), this book does manage to break some new ground. The sections that use handweights and her dance-based exercises are very different from anything else out there- Gillies' deserves credit for her innovativeness and originality.

The book itself is very attractive, with glossy photography and clear sherbet tones. It's a joy to read through and follow along with. She's also created ten different easy to follow exercise menus to choose from if you need a quick reference (I certainly do).

The only drawback is that this is low on yoga-based exercises- not a big deal, but it is mentioned in the title. However, I think someone using this book will find more than enough to make up for that.』

A full-color photographic book with 101 different moves you can do with an exercise ball. Exercise balls are cropping up in gyms all over the world, are sold in places like Kmart and Target, and are becoming the latest fitness craze. The thing is, what the heck do you do with the ball once youÆve bought it?

Pilates, yoga, and more! Liz Gillies, respected fitness trainer and star of several best-selling exercise videos, shows you 101 things you can do with a ball to tone, trim, and firm up.

(yoga therapy)
『The more I teach, the more I am interested in the therapeutic aspects of asana and how it links to our lifestyle that can be understood through the knowledge of Ayurveda. Nice explaination in the principles of movement and breathing section on gravity and strength. The section on observation and assessment is useful because it can help the teacher empower the student with greater self-awareness. The asanas illustrated from a chair aswell as from the floor makes the pranayama section meaningful for the student who may well have a bias in the body or be confined to a wheelchair. If you already have a basic understanding of prakruti and vikruti, the ayurvedic/yoga therapy section can be useful. The favorable vs unfavorable choice of asanas can help one understand the groups of asanas that may prove effective in a therapeutic scenario. Whilst I have yet to find a completely effective way to erradicate painful menses periodically, at least I feel more inspiration to continue

(Wonderful and upifting!!!!)
『I love this little book full of encouragement and wisdom. Her poems are so uplifting and truthful. They will bring tears to your eyes and joy to your heart. I read a little every day.』

(Reaches deep within and connects to the core)
『This is truly one of the best books dealing with yoga I've been introduced to. The poems are so deep and revealing and are just perfect for reflections during restorative yoga poses and guided relaxations.

The author, Danna Faulds, is given a bow of gratitude for presenting her insights for us to envelope within our practices.

Thank you, Danna.』

(Love the poetry!!! Especially "Go in and in")
『The first poem, the name of the book, is magical. I heard it first when my yoga teacher read it at the end of class. It left such a deep impression on me. The rest of her poems are very beautiful as well. I highly recommend Danna's book!!!』

(wonderful!)
『These poems hit right in the heart center. They make very beautiful meditations to share during yoga class or to inspire personal practice. I'm looking forward to reading Danna Faulds other writings. Many thanks to this brilliant yogini for sharing her love of yoga!』

(Poems to accompany your soul's journey)
『I first heard these poems read aloud in my yoga class at the start of meditation, but they are applicable to everyone who yearns for the "still point" inside themselves and who searches for connection to Spirit. They are for everyone who sometimes tries too hard, who has to learn again and again to be gentle with themselves. They are for everyone who feels a connection in Nature; says Danna, "I will worship /where the broad /arc of sky bends/to hear the bird song." This lovely unpretentious collection of poems - average length 3/4 of a page - is organized in: Gifts of Practice, Gifts of Life, Gifts of Nature, and Gifts of Union. Danna shares her own journey's challenges and lessons with honesty, wit, and beautifully chosen words. Over and over I had the "YES, that is exactly what it feels like" moment, as this work speaks directly to my heart. This is spirit-centered writing which is firmly grounded in the real world; take "This body is not flowing/with liquid energy, no,/and this mind is not/awash with peace. I/ fight myself in every posture, muscles shriek,/ fear freezes bones and a / sure sense of failure grows. / This too is practice, / this ground where grief / gains the upper hand, / and anger casts dark / shadows." Danna has dealt with depression and other challenges (described in the interesting Introduction) and has been a yoga teacher at Kripalu Center in Massachusetts, and these experiences are brought to her work. My copy of this book is full of post-it arrows and is always near my bed, as is her second book, One Soul. I am about to purchase her third. I have shared two of these poems with a TaiChi class I took, and I even brought one of the poems into therapy to read and discuss because it so expressed what I wanted to say. Honor your own journey with this poetry, worthy of reading over and over.』
『Here are poems that put words to the ineffable experiences that yoga practitioners have all the time, those moments when separation drops away, and body, mind and spirit become one.

Inspired by the experiences of yoga and meditation, the natural world, and the challenges of life itself, these poems capture both the struggle and the delight of the author's attempt to live consciously. They speak in a voice that is both encouraging and uplifting, yet they are simple and accessible.』
