(Asanas 608 Yoga Poses) 『This is a book that has one asana on each page. It's a little thick book. If you practice yoga, you will find many poses you have never seen or done. Each pose has the sanskrit name and the english, but does not include anything else such as how to get into the pose. It is interesting by I don't use it in yoga. If you want a challenge, this might be your book.』
(good book) 『this is a wonderful book. it is just of photos though, so it will not teach you yoga. wonderful tool for any yoga teacher or anyone who loves to see all the different poses out there. the reason i didn't give this a 5 star review is that the binding on my book came off completely and all the pages are starting to fall out. will have to take to staples or some place like that to see if they can fix it. they squeezed too many pages into such a tiny book. other than that it's a great book, well worth the money!』
(Never arrived) 『I never got the books due to a confusion. The book "Power Yoga for Dummies" I never ordered. I want the other 2 books though: Asanas and Light on Yoga. There are confusions all the time and I do not want to be overcharged due to Amazon's confusion. Thank you』
(It is what it is) 『Asanas: 608 Yoga Poses does not claim to be a guide to Hatha Yoga. It does not claim to be anything other than what it is: a picture book of 608 Asanas executed by Dharma Mitra, one of the great Yogis of modern times. The pictures are small, as is the book, and the size makes the text a bit clumsy, but the pictures are well executed. This book will not teach you how to enter/exit an Asana, but it shows you what the position should look like when properly executed. I agree with the other reviewer who said that the hardback might be better, but given the lesser cost, this version is OK. This shoud not be the only Yoga book on a bookshelf, and I would not reccommend it as the primary Yoga text for anyone, but if you have a good library of serious Yoga texts, this can be a good addition to your collection.

In 1974, the legendary“teacher of teachers” yogi Dharma Mittra photographed himself in 908 yoga postures. He printed each photo as an 8 x 10 and pasted them together to form a poster, creating the Ultimate Yoga Chart as a gift for his teacher, Swami Kailashananda (Yogi Gupta). Asanas collects 708 of those black-and-white photographs, each accompanied by the English name of the pose and the Sanskrit characters, brief commentary, and specific combinations for vinyasa, ashtanga, and Iyengar practice. Because it builds on basic postures, Asanas will appeal to students of any of the 100 yoga styles. In addition, specific sequences for each of the major styles of yoga; for beginning, intermediate, and advanced yoga students; as well as for particular health problems are also featured.

I love it! It really goes into detail everything you would ever need for one of his bootcamp classes, minus the great instructors.
Please keep in mind my perspective is from a Yoga Instructor stand point. This may not be for you, if you have no experience with Yoga at all. Great for those that are familiar with the basics.』
(PERFECT FOR HOME PRACTICE!) 『I used to practice once a week at a yoga studio. Since we had a new puppy home I decided to try the Yoga Bootcamp Box to continue my practice at home. Having 2 kids, work, and a puppy the short sessions are easy to fit in my busy day. I am now doing the 20mn practice every day and really feel the benefits of a regular 20mn daily practice over the 1 weekly session I used to do.
There are 3 different 20 mn practices so you can work on different areas (vinyassa flow, core or hips) and a longer 75mn session if you have a longer time frame.
There are also flash cards for beginners to look at each pause in details, or for any level to go over a pause we are not familiar with.
These Audio CDs work perfect for me and I think it's easier to use anywhere than using Dvds. I'll be traveling to Europe over the summer and want to keep practicing. Dvds wouldn't work there as the system are different (Pal Secam vs NTSC). With the Audio Cds I can use them anywhere worldwide. All you need is a mat and a CD player or Ipod and that's all it takes to get started.
I have been at one Baron Baptiste All Day workshop before and I cannot wait to go back! In the meantime, the CDs are perfect to continue on a daily practice.
Thanks Baron Baptiste! Flo D.

(Needs some getting used to) 『This CD&deck set is very useful if you find yourself on the road, or simply want to try something different. The deck is very well made: the cards are sturdy, the photos are clear and in color, several details are pointed out, while easier versions of the poses are usually shown as well. The 1st CD contains a 75-min yoga class. This one is too long for me, and I'll admit I haven't even listened to it. The real reason I got this set was the 20-min yoga flow classes found in the 2nd CD. The recording is high quality; however, due to the lack of music, it can get boring - of course, you can always rip the CDs to digital audio files and overdub your own choice of music ;) The sequences themselves are fairly simple, but they do need some preparation. Before actually practicing, you'll have to listen to the sequence to get the feel of the rhythm Baron uses (this is definitely not slow and relaxing). You also need to study the deck in tandem with the audio sequences. Note that cards for a couple of the poses in the shorter sequences are missing - not entirely though, you can find them in the cards for the 75-min yoga class. Moreover, the shorter sequences simply have a "reminder" card with all the poses for the sun salute, which is used here as a warm-up - you'll find the entire sun salute sequence fully described at the beginning of the deck. You may be unable to do certain poses either because the sequence is too fast (ex. sun salute) or because they're too challenging (the most difficult one for me is three-legged tabletop due to knee problems). It's fairly easy to adapt the program to your needs, though, either by foregoing the audio after you get the hang of the flow rhythm or by simply adjusting the sequence or pose to suit you - the suggested modifications at the back of the cards come really handy. All in all, this set is worth your while, especially for being more versatile than a DVD. However, if you're a beginner, I would suggest looking for something "softer", such as Rodney Yee's Yoga: The Poetry of the Body and its accompanying Yoga: The Poetry of the Body: A 50-Card Practice Deck.』
(love Baptiste) 『OK. I haven't shut in for the 3 day bootcamp but I read the book "Journey Into Power" (which I ordered also and it is very good) and I use the c.d. 70 minute flow. I love this c.d. because it is just you and Baron in the room like you are having a private lesson and he is so calm and encouraging. There is a 20 minute meditation cd and I found it to be really helpfull. Also included are really nice flashcards and 2 short 20 minute cds. I love Baron Baptiste not only because of his philosophy and easy access to the spiritual side of yoga but because of his natural warmth. He has remained my favorite teacher. IPhone 3G used's review (Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga Review) 『This is an excellent anatomy book for Yoga Teachers. The pictures are amazingly detailed and the knowledge of these authors is unsurpassed in my opinion.

Shoosh Lettick Crotzer's new book hits the spot for those suffering with Fibromyalgia. The combination of her knowledge of training in Iyengar style Yoga that she began in India in 1974 and her master's degree in diagnostic education has enabled her to write this book that covers different poses for those in pain. When most individuals think of yoga they think of someone standing on their head stretching their limbs in all sorts of shapes. "Yoga for Fibromyalgia" is not one of those books. Shoosh has done work for the Arthritis Foundation and the National MS Society. Through this experience she understands how hard it is for many individuals to exercise and she understands the body's need for exercise.
Though her continued work with students and their fibromyalgia symptoms has enabled her to develop the adaptive yoga poses used in this book. These sets of yoga asana (poses) that she has laid out in her new book have taken traditional yoga and transformed it into something that everyone can use, no matter what the level of pain may be. In my personal opinion, I think this book will be great for anyone with fibromyalgia, arthritis or low back pain. After five back operations I tried nearly every asana and exercise personally and was able to do them all.
The book itself is laid out so it is easy for anyone to follow. The pictures clearly show what the asanas (poses) look like and the descriptions of each asana or exercise make it so you can do these on your own. After a few weeks of doing the yoga set out in this book I think you will see a difference. Trust me I know what it is to live your life in constant pain. If not for yoga, I would most likely be in the wheelchair that the doctors told me I would end up in five years ago. You cannot go wrong with Shoosh's book; this one is a winner for those in pain from fibromyalgia. It's a must for the bookshelf of anyone who would like to be healthier, but is in need of help.
』
(Very good book) 『I have really enjoyed this book. It doesn't require too much effort for those of us who are limited in our ability to move.』
(She lost me at the "What is Fibromyalgia" section) 『In Part I the author says FM is a "arthritis-related condition." It's not. That's pretty well covered in the research conducted over the last few years. As a person living with FM and an advocate for awareness and continued research I have a hard time taking the rest of a book titled "Yoga for FM" that was just published this year seriously after that intro to the illness. As a yoga practitioner for 30 years, there's nothing dangerous for the PWF in this book. Good for the newcomer to yoga.』
(A Recommendation from My Student with Fibromyalgia) 『I recommended Yoga for Fibromyalgia to one of my students. Even though she is already familiar with restorative yoga and how to use yoga props, she felt this book was very worthwhile, especially for her home practice. Here is what she said: "It's nice to see it all laid out and easy to follow. This book would be a benefit to any teachers with fibromites like me in their classes. It also applies to anyone with a disease like FMS; arthritis, chronic fatigue, etc. I also like it for new people because it's written simply, easy to understand, short and concise. Some books are so long and have way too much info for people just starting out. Not to mention trying to read and understand when you are in a flare up with brain fog!"
Thank you, Shoosh Lettick Crotzer, for writing this helpful book!

(This book is very helpful) 『I found this book to be very helpful. The author is very well-informed and the writing is easy to follow. This books offers great tips on managing fibro through yoga!』 『
Fibromyalgia, which affects more women than men, is characterized by widespread pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points— places on the body where slight pressure causes pain. Although mainstream medicine has yet to devise a successful plan for treating fibromyalgia, yoga offers sensible strategies for managing, and sometimes overcoming, the pain. Written by a yoga teacher and suitable for both yoga novices and veterans, this book is grounded in simple movements, breathing techniques, and guided visualization and relaxation sessions. Readers learn to reduce stress and manage fibromyalgia through eight sequences: four for pain relief, one to diminish fatigue and improve sleep, and three for maintaining body awareness and general flexibility. The author's simple, supportive language and mixture of theory, practice, and the latest scientific data offer hope for one of the most challenging health conditions.

(good for a beginner) 『Judith is always so good at being very clear with descriptions. I am a huge a fan of hers. This book is very good for beginners. If you are looking for a really good workout for your abs this is not the book.』
(Great ab workout) 『You can count on it being a good item when it is put out by Judith Hanson Lasater』
(inexpensive for a reason) 『I usually enjoy Lasater's books. My teacher training required us to have one of them, and I found it useful, this book to me was a waste of a perfectly good amazon gift certificate. There was no new information, it reitterated all of the information I already knew, and I found it did not actually hold that many asanas, ie: stand tall and raise your leg out in front of you to strengthen the psoas - kind of like padangusthasana, but honestly - I already knew this - and several other modifications of poses. I guess I just had high hopes of more complex series. This is a book best for the layperson with little knowledge of anatomy and yoga who needs help to figure some things out.』
(Yoga is a Great Toner !) 『I'm a big fan of yoga for all-over body fitness - mind, body, and spirit. This book presents great yoga poses for strengthening the body's core. A companion book to this one is Mary El-Baz's "Transform Your Core 6-Week Workbook."』 『
A unique vocabulary exists that ascribes a variety of emotions to the belly: "my guts are in a knot," "I knew it in my gut," "gut-wrenching," and "no guts, no glory." Yet too often, more emphasis is placed on the way the abdomen looks than how it feels and functions - a sterling six-pack can mask true abdominal trouble.Yoga Absoutlines a series of exercises, yoga poses (asana), and breathing practices designed to achieve optimal health for this crucial area, which houses the organs of both digestion and procreation. Drawing on her experience as a yoga instructor and physical therapist, Judith Hanson Lasater discusses the anatomy and philosophical aspects of the abdomen and offers a set of movements that create awareness of important muscles while developing and maintaining abdominal strength. Each exercise and asana lists the props or supports needed, safety guidelines, and practice instructions, and the book includes practical guidelines for moving mindfully through everyday tasks.

Three Leaves
Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Clear, Consise, Unbiased) 『So this is one of my favorite books in the world--I've taught in yoga centers around the world, and when I give lectures I base them on what's in this book. it's clear (doesn't use technical language), consise (it mainly consists of only 108 pages), and can serve as an excellent introduction to the yoga sutra for people who have been practicing yoga asana for years without ever encountering the Yoga Sutra, the most important book ever written on yoga.
As I feel this is a really important book written at a very important time (20 million yoga practitioners in the US alone can't be wrong :-), I also want to address a few of the criticisms I read in some of the other reviews. Given, this is a short book, so sometimes the ideas or concepts it explains need to be studied further to be fully understood, but it is meant to be an introduction, as the title "Essential" indicates--it is not meant to be a treatise on every aspect of the Yoga Sutra.
That said, I think it is especially unfair to criticize it for not being based on Vedantic philosophy. Claiming that this book is wrong, or misleading, because it's based on Buddhist rather than Vedantic philosophy is the same as a Catholic saying Protestants can't interpret the Bible. The same thing. I think most of us have gone past that kind of argument.
When I recommend this book I tell students to set it by their bed and just before they go to sleep, pick it up and read a page or two to think about something inspiring and uplifting before you go to sleep. Try it, I think you will find it worth your while.』
(Precise, straightforward writing for modern living) 『This book is wonderfully written with easy to relate to examples. I also love the size of the book as it isn't too large or thick. It's easy to carry with you and great to read before bed. This book is written in a very straightforward manner that makes these sutras easier to understand and translate into your own life. It's exactly what I had hoped for in a copy of the Yoga Sutras.』
(Clear, helpful , and fun) 『This translation of the Yoga Sutra is a scholarly translation that uses words that everyone can understand. The commentary gives clear advice for our life's practice and how we can become happy and truly help others.
I recommend it highly.』
(Don't be fooled by the simple style) 『Its easy to be fooled by the simple, straightforward language of this translation. It uses everyday examples to illustrate the principles. But humming beneath the surface is a profound current of authentic metaphysics. They seem to deliberately steer clear of overly religious ways of presenting the material, so that anyone can read it - you dont have to be a card-carrying Hindu etc. I've read their other books on yoga (How Yoga Works, The Tibetan Book of Yoga) and heard some of their talks, and in my opinion this book is a successful distillation of the practical wisdom of yoga. If you want a more detailed work, try one of their other books, mentioned above. Most importantly, it is easy to get into a whole trip and get confused with the externals - for me this book helps me focus on the most important things: how taking care of other people is the very fuel for a successful yoga practice. 』
(Dumbing Down the Sublime) 『An unsolicited copy of this book arrived in the mail sent by a business organizer for Geshe Michael Roach, apparently timed to arrive just before his scheduled appearance - along with his `spiritual partner' Christie McNally - here in Hong Kong. This is clever, not to say even aggressive, marketing. However, Roach's training is in Buddhism, a non-Vedic doctrine, and the Yoga Sutra is one of the six Vedic philosophical schools of India. In this book there are specific instances wherein it is clear that Roach does not understand the principles he is supposedly explaining, and builds certain of his arguments on assumptions in the category of vikalpa (misconception). Beginning students, who seem to be the target audience, are not likely to notice these discrepancies, and I find this unfair and even dangerous for them.
Having studied authentic Sanskrit texts under a guru in a proper lineage and practiced yoga for nearly four decades myself, I would suggest to readers that where one gets spiritual information is as important as what one reads. For many of us, Roach is too controversial to be seen as a reliable reference. Despite his accolades and scholarship, his sophistries seem sentimental and wishy washy, not likely to ignite the fire of tapasya (ardor and austerity) in anyone, although good points do glimmer occasionally through the haze. Those who are content to skim the surface of the ultimate human achievement without any expectation of attaining the real thing have found the perfect user friendly but unfortunately pirated version here. 』 『
The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is a classic Sanskrit treatise consisting of 195“threads,” or aphorisms, describing the process of liberation through yoga. Although little is known about Patanjali (most scholars estimate that he lived in India circa 200–300 b.c.), his writings have long been recognized as a vital contribution to the philosophy and practice of yoga. This new, expert translation of the original Sanskrit text of Patanjali’s best-known work presents his seminal ideas and methods in accessible, plain-language English.
Patanjali organized the sutra into four parts: Samadhi (absorption), Sadhana (practice), Vibhuti (supernatural powers), and Kaivalya (liberation). Each represents a step in breaking free of our limited definition of consciousness and training the mind to achieve oneness with the universe. Geshe Michael Roach, one of the most respected teachers of Tibetan Buddhism in America and a renowned scholar of Sanskrit, provides authoritative commentary on each of the sutras. His notes and clarification are straightforward and highly readable, untainted by obscure, academic terminology or New Age jargon. The first edition of the Yoga Sutra to present a Buddhist perspective, this paperback original will be welcomed by students and spiritual seekers alike.
