『This book has some really useful tips to practise yoga. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is it would be nice if there was a CD companion with the book that had the instructions. She is familiar with Babar and his exploits, and has done yoga with me for a few years, so she was tickled when she saw "Babar's Yoga" and began to read several noteworthy quotes to me, including the revelation that elephants had in fact invented yoga! She was so charmed by the book, she put it at the top of her Christmas list, and was delighted to find it under the tree. The book does provide accurate yoga information, actual poses illustrated by elephants, and a sense of the yogic purpose. It'a a fun introduction to yoga.』

『I am very impressed with Brooke Boon's Holy Yoga. I appreciate the Christ-centered approach to yoga. The book is quite thorough, but easy enough for a beginner. The DVD is a little fast paced, and some of the shots are a zoomed too wide to get a good view. Despite that, a few sessions of practice and then it is smooth sailing. I have tried several other yoga methods, but they did not "stick" with me. I don't have a motivation problem with Brooke's program. I highly recommend it for beginners, especially Christians. I'm not advanced enough to judge how it stacks up for more advanced yoga practitioners.

I give it 5 stars for the book/DVD being a program that I actually want to do and do do, daily. For a lazy slug like me that says something!』

『I just want to thank Brooke Boon and her committment to Holy Yoga. I was relatively new to yoga when I stumbled into her class and I can say just very honestly it changed my life. While I'm not intimitated by secular yoga, I never found the peace and full sense of God's presence in yoga until I took a Holy Yoga class. Her book is a great simple explanation of Christian yoga and worship. I don't find it a debate, but a reassurance that I can praise God physically and I hope you find that same treasure in her book/dvd.』

This is a good book to read if you want to learn about yoga from a Christian yoga teacher. Brooke certainly does a good job of explaining how Holy Yoga can be treated as a spiritual discipline and incorporated into the lives of Christians to strengthen their relationship and intimacy with the Lord.
However, with that being said, I would also like to add that in my opinion I think anyone considering buying this book solely for the DVD that comes with it and not to actually read the book should skip it and get Michelle LeMay's Spirit Flow: Rejuvenating Core Stretch and Michelle LeMay's Spirit Flow: Alive in Your Body DVD's. The rejuvenating core stretch one is the only DVD workout I have found that really relieves my lower back tension. After I did the Holy Yoga DVD my lower back was still tense. Just being honest. Michelle may or may not be a Christian. I really do not know. All I know is that these DVD's of hers that I have mentioned really help me in a positive way.』

(Nifty reminder to add yoga to the workday - surprisingly useful little book)
『This small, goofy-looking hardcover yoga book is actually quite nifty. It takes you across a full workday of ideas to incorporate yoga and peaceful actions to your schedule.

Starting with arising, there are a few pajama asanas. Nothing that absolute yoga novices can't do - there are some stretches forward in bed, followed by an extremely modified sun salute (no planks, chatarungas or cobras, just lunge, cat/cow and downdog). After recommending breakfast smoothie options, the author has you doing head rolls during the commute.

The "in-office" part is the meat of the book, with useful keyboard finger stretches, proper sitting postures, and a great assortment of easy chair stretches one can do the entire day. I keep this book propped open at my desk to this section to remind me to do the arm pulls, reaching hands and open chest stretches.

More from the office section: there are self-massages, eye strain solutions and headache rubs, and some "closed door" poses like tree pose, rag doll and warrior. Although if you are brave and work in a cubicle or bull pen, you might want to just do these poses where you can be seen and not worry about it. :)

The lunchtime section recommends a few floor poses, if you can find a place to be alone. The break section discusses brisks walks and suggests subtle stretches you can do in the elevator (one stretch is recommended for crowded elevators and one for when you have it all to yourself), copy room and in any office doorway.

A restorative desk posture and meditation are offered for the end of your workday, followed by simple releases and couch potato postures for once you get back home.

My overall impression is this book has more solid little tricks for real life than I expected from just browsing through it. There are real useful nuggets in there! The line drawings are a little hokey but I can overlook that. :)

I'd get this book as a neat gift for anyone with a frazzled work life, and I use it myself each day as a reminder to add simple stretches and mindfulness to my most mundane desk activities.

『Interesting that there's such diverse opinion on this book. I'm in the camp that was disappointed and frustrated. Surely it's a well-intentioned project, and there's lots of information here, but it seems poorly processed - just thrown at the reader, almost as if the author is just showing off her anatomical knowledge. To me the writing is a bit dry and doesn't make the material real, doesn't really relate the knowledge to working with actual bodies. Too much unconnected fact and speculation, not enough energetic personality. I was also irritated that the discussion of the more ethereal, ancient concepts such as the bandhas are presented in the same breath as the medical information, and aren't explained in any depth. I'm on my second read because I'm waiting for new material that I've ordered from the States, but it's sometimes like working with a hostile witness, trying to glean the information that I need.』

『As a fitness professional and certified yoga teacher I would not recommend this book to practice with or take advice from. I actually warn my clients NOT to do some of the things they suggest (such as pushing on knees to get a deeper stretch) unless they are eager to injur themselves. Unless you are a professional and are able to sort through the exercises to determine which are safe and which are not, I would look elsewhere for advice on stretching and/or yoga.

However, if you are trained in biomechanics or movement this could be a good reference for ideas for partner classes, workshops or demonstrations (but you will have to know what to leave out). The participants will need to be fairly flexible already.

Some of the pictures are cool but the quality of the printing is not that high, so they are more grey than black and white.』

『I bought this book as an Amazon suggestion to another book I was purchasing for my spouse as a gift. This book was an inexpensive "add-on" to what I was already buying (Contact Yoga) so I bought it. I was totally disappointed and if I can find the time I'm going to return this one.

My husband and I love to practice yoga and we've been wanting to find truly good books with more 'partner' yoga poses. This one touts 75 postures, but in reality it's only a few 'beginner' poses shown from various angles.

If you're really into yoga then don't waste your money on this book.』

『I havent read it completely - but so far so good. Love the size as I can take it to class when I teach. Also like the pictures and explanations. Would love if they recommended different sequencing for a 20 min to 1 hour partner yoga session. Don't know if they do since I havent read it thoroughly. Also, recommend any adjustments for different types of bodies and range of flexibility.』
