(stretching for pregnancy)
『An Ok book, but I believe there needs be more information and excercise on the pelvic floor, and its importance during pregnancy, labour and afterwards』

(a so-so resource)
『I teach yoga, and had a 6month pregnant woman join my 2ndlevel class.
I wanted to be sure to treat her tenderly.
This book does have suggested postures to use for prenatal, dividing them up into trimesters, but it was weak in theory.
I was hoping to understand the theory behind why she should not lay on her right side, or why she should not lower her head below her heart.
Overall, as long as you follow the photos, it appears to be safe.

(Safe and effective)
『This teacher is of Iyengar background. The photos are dated, but content is excellent.』

(Not quite what I was looking for...)
『This is a pretty good book if you are going to be doing yoga at home...I was hoping more for a book that would give me suggestions on alternate positions for poses that I shouldn't be doing in group classes. All in all though, not a bad book, just not quite what I was looking for.』

(Not for teachers)
『This is a handbook designed for students. I bought it to build my prenatal teaching library and am disappointed. The pictures are dated but the poses are classic. There are also poses for postnatal.』
Sandra Jordan offers yoga as a way of developing self-reliance and calmness of mind during pregancy. Practicing yoga poses with quiet mindfulness developmes a strong, supple body and the ability to breathe deeply and relax completely.Yoga for Pregnancyprovides ninety-two lyngar poses carefully chosen for their safety and effectiveness during and after pregnancy. Each pose is explained concisely, illustrated with a photograph, and clearly marked with a code that tells which postures are advised for each trimester. This is a supportive guide to safe, gentle stretches that can help pregnancy women adjust to the phsycial and mental demands of labor birth, and motherhood.

(Great book for "seekers". You will want to know more!)
『Bought this book for my yoga TT and found it very interesting, informative and deep. Definitely can recommend it. Sharka』

(perfect for the intermediate-advanced practitioner)
『This book is perfect for those who already have some understanding of ayurveda/yoga/holistic health. It addresses the core principles and practices with a beautiful blend of spiritual lineage and academic rigor. This is definitely not an introductory-level book; it is a wonderful reference for those ready to move more deeply into these practices.』

(yoga and Ayurveda)

The kind of books I like are the ones that are tagged, underlined, and worn. That indicates that it is not just another book for another books sake. This is one of those books. Teaching or practicing yoga without knowledge of ayurveda is like teaching with some knowledge of life missing. It links us to the macrocosm aswell as understanding our constitution beyond the physical body and is a must buy and study. It helps us to understand what we have to re-wire on an individual level to make progress on the spiritual path. Camella Nair - Author of Aqua Kriya Yoga』

(informative, interesting and not too new agey)
『i've got this book after a recomendation of my yoga instractor and just like she said - it helps put the yoga i take at the gym, which is mainly asanas (postures) in a larger context of both spiritual guidness and preseption as well as other live guiding filds, like breathing, eating, and over all living.

though it deals with a lot of topics who were new to me, and a lot of sanskrit turms, the book's very well arange and repeat to explain certion parts more then once so that i was sure to understand, it's very methodic and though it doesn't creat or recoment a spasific practice to live, like some, mostly more shallow book does, it give you certion guidlines and directions to find yourself withing the path of yoga and ayurveda.

the book approach the 3 dosha (type) help you realize what type you belong to (air, fire or water) and what are the best approachs for you concerning breathing, eating, asana practice, meditation and other filds of life. on top of that it gives a very whole phylosofical approach that i liked.

frewley is a very good teacher, he phrases things very clearly and arranged a lot of half known turms while filling a lot of the gaps for me, i enjoyed this book a lot and it had direct influence on my yoga practic.』

(Full of important info)
『This book introduces, and covers a good deal of areas that, as far as I know, have never been covered before. His explanation of Soma is very sober and answers alot of questions. There is enough info in here for any person to gain, not only from his perspective but also for an informational aspect. Though there are meditation techniques I wouldn't just take up without Intensive Study into both subjects.』
『Yoga and Ayurveda together form a complete approach for optimal health, vitality and higher awareness. YOGA AND AYURVEDA reveals to us the secret powers of the body, breath, senses, mind and chakras. More importantly, it unfolds transformational methods to work on them through diet, herbs, asana, pranayama and meditation. This is the first book published in the West on these two extraordinary subjects and their interface. It has the power to change the lives of those who read and apply it.』

The Yoga Deck has been a wonderful teaching tool for me and my students. I am so glad I bought them. They are invaluable!』

(great yoga book)
『i really like this book. i have many yoga books, videos and decks and this is amongst the best. as an instructor i find the descriptions and visuals very helpful. i like the sequences that are written out. it's just a good book to have. this is a book i'd feel totally comfortable referring to my students for their home practice.』

(Great !)
『Excelent book, as a begginer in yoga I find it quite complete and very illustrative on the different excercises.

(A Yoga Medicine Chest)
『Essential Yoga is like a medicine cabinet for yoga practitioners. Inside are simple, precise, and thorough single-page guides to about 100 essential poses, warm-ups, meditations, and breath exercises...plus, what is far more important, two chapters full of creative and unique routines and sequences. Each pose is simply and crisply illustrated, and detailed instructions are given. (It's particularly nice that the book is sewn to lie flat, a feature which makes it quite easy to use while actually practicing! This nicely supports the premise of the book, which is to be a text that is for the practice of actual yoga--and not just "about" it.) Each pose includes English and Hindi names, suggested modifications and variations, and a sentence or two about its physical and mental benefits. What really makes this sublimely practical book a "medicine chest", however, are the sequences. From short vinyasas (everything from Camel to Sun and Moon Salutations) to complete workouts of several lengths and intensity levels, the back chapters of this book contain everything you need to begin a home practice for all moods and occasions. Best of all are the short series geared to various physical goals and/or ailments (from "Biking", "Golf" and "Skiing" workouts to programs for "Toxin Flush", "Cold Prevention" and "Depression")--they're effective and eminently doable.

(Essential Yoga: An Illustrated Guide to Over 100 Yoga Poses and Meditations)
『This is by far one the best illustrated Yoga books I own. Very descriptive and many poses』

(How yoga helped me destress...)
『I loved this book. I started yoga to destress from work, but I found that when the yoga instructor called out positions by name, I was lost. I found myself staring at what the instructor was doing and losing the benefit of yoga. This book not only helped me learn the positions, it also has some really great routines you can do at home.』
『From the author of the best-sellingYoga DeckcomesEssential Yoga-- the only hatha yoga book to offer this many poses (over 100), this many illustrations (over 180), and this many suggested sequences (over 50). Practical and interactive, it focuses on the poses themselves, providing clear, concise instructions and detailed illustrations for each, all in a lay-flat format that's easy to refer to during yoga practice. It also includes six classic moving meditations (such as Sun Salutation and Camel Vinyasa), 10 beginner-to-advanced sessions, and 48 mini-sequences designed to build strength for specific activities or alleviate health problems.Essential Yogacombines physical poses (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayamas), and meditations (dhyanas) into a simple and complete reference guide for yoga practitioners of all levels. Along the way, author Olivia Miller provides guidance on proper technique and alignment; modifications for beginners or those with knee, neck, or back pain; suggestions for preventing injury; and ways to keep a regular practice interesting and active. For beginners as much as experts looking for one complete book that has it all,Essential Yogais it.』

(great for students and teachers!)
『Very useful in sequencing classes. I am a yoga instructor just learning about prenatal and restorative yoga and I am finding this very helpful and informative. Well laid out and simple.』

(Restorative Yoga)
『This is a very valuable book because few writers have chosen to write about this facet of yoga. There's plenty of books and videos and classes on yoga, but, wanting to teach a restorative yoga class myself, I could find little to prepare me for that, other than going to a restorative class and copying what that teacher did. I had my own observations but needed a professional's thoughts to assure me I was on the right track, as well as describe the poses and exactly what their benefits are. You simply could not ask for a more thorough perspective on restorative yoga.』
Experience the rest of your life with restorative yoga, the supported poses and breathing practices that will help you heal the effects of chronic stress. In Relax and Renew, the first book exclusively devoted to this work, the author offers in-depth guidance in the Basic Relaxation Pose (Savasana), the heart of restorative practice. In addition, this book provides yoga sequences for busy days, including a fifteen-minute practice, yoga at your desk, and the Totally Invisible Relaxation; programs for back pain, headaches, insomnia, jet lag, and breathing problems; a special section for women during menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause; a guide to props; and resources for finding a yoga teacher, recommended books, magazines, newsletters, audio programs, yoga vacations, and more.

(Great book)
『There is wisdom in stretching and relaxing before working with your horse. If you are upset or tense, your horse can sense it and can make for a difficult or really bad work session. My instructor always says "To end on a good note". My mare is particularly sensitive to my moods and would react based on my body language. I had a problem relieving the tension in my lower back due to an injury and my mare could feel it in my seat and legs.

I had picked up a few tips from other riders, but when I purchased the Linda's book, things seemed to click, from breathing to helping me ease the tension in my back. I would try a few exercises before I mounted and while I was mounted. My mare was more relaxed. I think that this book (and video) helped.

I recommend getting the book and the video. The book is great with photos and more in-depth instruction of technique and postures. It is recommended that if you are new to yoga, like myself, that you read the first few chapters before attempting the postures. The video is helpful for those who wish to work with voice instruction and movement instead of flipping through pages and trying to execute what they've just read.

(Great Book!)
『As an avid rider for many years, I found this book very helpful. I have a problem with riding "crooked" because of a rotated pelvis. My unevenness has become more noticeable in the years that I have been riding without an instructor. This book helps you become aware of your body and what you are doing with it. Highly recommended (even if you don't do much yoga -- I don't, but this was just my speed!)』

(Weekend riders need this book)
『I have waited a long time to buy this book, and now that I finally have it I wish I'd bought it sooner. It has great explanations of how yoga connects with horseback riding. The exercises range from stretching techniques to easy muscle toning for primary riding areas, like the glutes. The stretching exercises are a great way to relax before going to bed. If you're a "weekend" rider and would like a way to work a little bit on your toning and balance between rides, this is the book. Don't let the yoga part turn you off. It's great!』

(Yoga for Equestrians - works)
『My daughter and I traveled from Central New York to W. Springfield, Mass Nov. 9, 2002 to attend Equine Affaire. There were many workshops and presentations. Linda Benedik was one that we decided we would both enjoy. She demonstrated many of the yoga positions and had us all doing them with her. My daughter is an avid rider, I however just enjoy horses. At 52 I found the yoga made me feel so much more relaxed that I feel it would benefit everyone whether you are a horse person or not. I can not rate the book as I just got it and haven't had the opportunity to read it all yet but if it is 1/10th as good as the workshop you'll need more than 5 stars. If you ever have the opportunity to see and hear Linda Benedik in person - you'll find it well worth while.

Connie』

(A must read)
『This book is excellent. The text is straight-forward and easy to follow, as are the exercises -- amply illustrated. I found just doing a twenty minute routine from this book daily has already helped with suppleness, flexibility and relaxation. If you enjoyed Sally Swift's Centered Riding, then you'll find this a very complimentary read. If fact Swift garners a few mentions along the way. You can't go far in riding if you're tense or inflexible, and this book has lots of ways to counter both those problems. I highly recommend it.』

A unique program of yoga for riders that cultivates both mental and physical flexibility and balance--vital keys to achieving harmony between horse and human. This manual is profusely illustrated with color photos and drawings.

(connecting kids to nature)
『this book will help to create a connection and fasination for kids with the environment and give them much needed connection to health and exercise too.』

(Great Activity for Preschoolers)
『I bought this book as a resource for my church's Preschool/Kindergarten Religious Exploration class. Each Sunday we have a class of 3-6 year olds for an hour. We break the time into short segnments and like to include some kinetic activities. They have together time, a spiritual message, a craft, a song, and then we use to play a game together. The games started getting a bit wild and sometimes too competative, so I thought a quieter physical activity like yoga might be a good fit. This book makes the positions so fun and easy: each child can be sucessful at thier own level. It has suggestions of how to use the poses, ways of advancing through the positions, a section sort of like a "teachers guide" so people unfamiliar with yoga (such as myself) can use it with confidence. The kids love doing Yoga and looking at the pictures to see how to do things. They are fully absorbed in trying to achieve the poses and talking about what a flower (or star or whatever the pose is modled on)feels like or sees or thinks. The book is very well done, thought provoking and affirming. I am fully delighted with it!! This is a wonderful adition to a young child's life.』

(The official yoga book for kids)
『I bought a whole slew of yoga for kids books and this is by far the best one. All of the others repeat the information from this book, but in a less clear way and without the great pictures. This is the one to get.』

(Children's book of Yoga: games&Exercises...)
『As an educator, I found this book to be delightful, colorful and easy to understand. I would suggest this book even to adults trying Yoga for the first time. First of all, the layout and pictures were easy on the eye and I can see how this may attract young readers to its content, without an adult. The language and tone of the book was enjoyable. I think this is a good introduction to anyone beginning Yoga and I would recommend it very highly. Peace, Kind Essence (Karen thompson)』

(Preschool perfection!)
『A beautifully illustrated book. Accurate and colorful. My class of preschoolers related to it wonderfully, using it as a guide for their own Yoga poses. They invented several and we took pictures to add to this stunning book. This Yoga work interested and calmed some of my more challenging students. Well worth the investment of money and time. Highly recommend.』

(This book is worth every penny.)
『At age 54 I recently began doing yoga for the first time in my life. I have always exercised, but yoga is completely different for me. I purchased a few DVD's which did not really explain in great detail important details for a beginning student, nor show how to adapt the poses for a beginner's body (especially a middle aged person.) I found this book through my local library, and after reading it, came to Amazon and bought it. I love this book because 1) it explains ayurvedic principles clearly with great insight, 2)it shows the various poses in great detail, and 3) best of all, it explains how exactly to protect your body from injury by modifying the various poses a beginner may not be able to do. I have been frustrated in yoga class and with DVD's when some of the poses done by the instructors hurt and I don't know the way to modify them so they don't. This book takes care of that! It is an invaluable resource for those who truly want a better understanding and want to keep doing yoga without injuring themselves in the process.』

(Yoga for Your Type)
『"Yoga for your type" is absolutely excellent. I am a lay person that has attempted to live by Ayurvedic standards for many years. I have certain doshic imbalances that I have been treating for some time and this book has provided so much insight. I have many Yoga books, but this book clearly demonstrates how to reduce doshas from the body. It is concise and clearly written and will be treasured. (A must-read if you want to evolve yourself and the world we live in!)
『Sharon Gannon is one of the most inspiring teachers of our times. This book is for yoga teachers, yoga students and anyone interested in living a more compassionate and meaningful life. It give practical advice and explains the contradiction of calling yourself a yogi while participating in the cruel meat and dairy industry. It is inspiring and empowering as it demonstrates that each of us can and does make a difference. With every choice we make, every item we buy, we are voting for our future and the future of our planet.
Read it and buy it for your friends. Let us change the world together, one bite at a time!』

Drawing on both the author's extensive studies of Vedic traditions and her longtime interest in animal rights,Yoga and Vegetarianismshows how the physical and spiritual practice of yoga is historically and structurally tied to a vegetarian lifestyle. When they are used in tandem, she argues, they form a strong framework for physical and spiritual attunement and promote an overall healthy life.Yoga and Vegetarianismemphasizes the importance of understanding ofAhimsa, the practice of non-harming and nonviolence, as the first step in marrying yoga and vegetarianism. All actions, says Gannon, originate as thoughts, so the "perfection of action" that yoga strives for must come from a perfect thought. What is a perfect thought? According to the book, it is a thought free of selfish desire, anger, and hate. This brings us back toAhimsaand to vegetarianism. Freeing oneself of needless cruelty, harm, and injustice— which includes eating meat — can transform both the individual and the world. This book shows how.
