(Better than expected)
『I think this story trancends race. It's really just a story of a mother who made choices and gave her all in an extremely trying environement. I was moved. I read this after reading Miracle at St. Anna which was great!』

(Interesting Insight)
『I enjoyed the insight into the authors life and experiences. I was a little confused as he went back and forth between characters at first, but figured it out quick enough. I thought it was a good read overall and was fascinated by the devotion of his mother to her children and Christianity. The successful lives of all of the children is a testament to the strength of his mother.』

(The Color of Water)
『Excellent book which talks about transracial issues....excellent also for people considering adoption of trans racial children....very informative.....』

(inspirational)
『loved this book. my son is also bi-racial. i was born in 1956 and could really relate and re-read the book with my son. he never experienced most of the things in the book so it was an incredible sharing and bonding experience for us and it opened a whole new dialogue with his dad who's family originated in north carolina. great read for all parents and children. truly enlightening』

(Amazing!!!)
『This is such a good book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminds me of so many strong women I know who raised their kids to the best of their ability regardless of their circumstances.』

(ALOT of meandering...)
『I think I have an idea of what the writer is trying to accomplish but his book could have been simpler and more concise. I found the book difficult to apprehend for people frustrated in life and unsure of what to do next. I'd like to give this warning...if you aren't inclined towards religion you will have problems with this book because the author uses God as an affirmative defense for the outcome of every decision the reader has to make. I believe in God but I also believe in free will and that God does not micro-manage our life styles. That God is concerned in long term consequences resulting from poor planning or the lack of it but not necessarily in every decision we have to make. That being said if you are already aware of the passion that drives you but aren't quite sure how to bring it to fruition there are perhaps, a number of other books better suited to the task of helping you realize your full potential.』

(What a lifesaver!)
『This book is truly a lifesaver, and it's updated every year. I have not had to look for a job in 20 years, and didn't truly know how to write a professional resume. Not only did I learn alot about writing resumes but I also learned alot about myself! This is a book I will keep close at hand always. I love it!』

(A Must-Read for Those on the Voyage of Self-Discovery)
『For those unsure of what lies ahead, this book is the perfect must-read. It will guide you through the voyage of self-discovery to assist you in choosing the career/work environment that best fits your personality. What could be better than finding a career you love?』

(Not Too Useful)
『I don't understand why this book is considered such a classic reference. I found it badly written, not that useful, and WAY too religious. The chapter about how to determine your true mission in life is ALL about God and religion. You may agree or disagree with the author's religious views, but regardless I do not think that belongs in a job-hunting book. As a disillusioned corporate worker trying to change careers, I really needed practical, real-world advice.

The book seems to written for ADD people because it keeps repeating the same things only a couple of pages later. Also, some of his advice I disagree with - he keeps saying that the Internet is not a good way to get a job. What century is he living in?? I have gotten almost all my jobs over the last 12 years through applying over the Internet (Monster, CareerBuilder, etc.)

It has a few listings of sites that may be useful, but the book overall was a waste. Unless you want to bring it to your Bible study group.』

(A Rock Solid Reference)
『The current verson of this reference is highly recommended. It seems like they have kept doing what they do best - helping you think through your career direction, organize your approach to improving that situation, and pointing you in the direction of resources. Get a new copy. It is a great investment.』

(twisted, horrifying, disgusting, revolting, perverted, vomit-inducing, etc.)
『this is the worst book i've ever read, along with the house on mango street. i had to read this the summer before ninth grade. yes, ninth! i was THIRTEEN and i had to submerge myself in this perverted sick unhealthy (most likely drug-induced) for lack of a better word, BOOK. i was horrified, disgusted, revolted, terrified, and it was NOT a pleasant read. i couldn't even finish it. i stopped after about 100 pages, and akwardly had to tell my mom that i didn't want to finish it. she read it and agrees with me. why this is considered a "CLASSIC" is beyond me. it sounds like alice walker is on crack and wrote down the first twisted, sick, perverted scence she could think of. i would NEVER recommend this book, especially for schools.

(Color Purple)
『I love this book and I would recommend anyone to read it and watch the movie.』

(surprise)
『i was pleasantly surprised by this classic. an incredible account of strenght from an atypical hero. i hope you will take a chance on this classic.』

(best book ever!)
『this book was not only the best book i have ever read, but also a beautiful and emotional rollercoaster on the course of a young woman's life. this book tells the story of a black woman who grew up in the south with many hard times, but with the help of her "goddess," she grew to be tough and more of a woman than most. it was a pleasure to read. i cant wait to see the movie as well!』

(GREAT BOOK)
『I have now read this book twice, once as a high school student and then again for one of my college classes. I love this book. Each time I read it I get something new out of it. I think I is a book that once old enough everyone should give it a shot. The only bad thing is that this is a book that you either love of hate..there is no happy middle. I loved it and will no doubt read it again!』
Celie is a poor black woman whose letters tell the story of 20 years of her life, beginning at age 14 when she is being abused and raped by her father and attempting to protect her sister from the same fate, and continuing over the course of her marriage to "Mister," a brutal man who terrorizes her. Celie eventually learns that her abusive husband has been keeping her sister's letters from her and the rage she feels, combined with an example of love and independence provided by her close friend Shug, pushes her finally toward an awakening of her creative and loving self.

(Some good exercises, but not always helpful)
『In some parts a too religious perspective, but contains some ok exercises to help you identify your skills and wants, and gives your more insight into the complete picture of your ideal job. Book is mostly about job finding/applying/negotiating tips. Nice illustrations.』

(what color is your parachute?)
『The books and workbooks (I bought 2 of each) arrived in new condition, and timely (within 5 days). Excellent service.

(Create a compelling vision of the career you want)
『This book is short, but it will support you in generating a lot of valuable information about your values and a career tailored to fit you. Expect to invest about 20 hours in the self exploration exercises in this book.

You get two products from doing this work:

(1) A baseline self-assessment that you can keep for life and update as it suits your needs.

(2) A compelling, pull-to vision of what you want from your career and life that will operate on you consciously and unconsciously to propel you towards getting exactly what you want.

I used a version of this book in 1992 to create a vision of the career and life that I wanted. Then I put everything away and didn't look at the work I had done for ten years.

In 2002, I looked at the exercises I had done in 1992. I got goosebumps! Without ever having looked at what I had written again, I had created what I had envisioned ten years previously. Amazing!

As an executive search consultant, I talk daily with people who are in the process of reflecting on their career choices. Because of my own positive experience, this is my favorite print resource, hands down, to share with people who want to generate more self-awareness about their values and a vision of what they want from their careers.』

『Richard Nelson Bolles presents an updated version of one of the most widely acclaimed exercises from PARACHUTE, the Flower. This highly effective tool, reproduced here in handy workbook form, helps readers target their ideal work situation. Simple step-by-step worksheets focus on translating personal interests into marketable job skills as well as often-ignored issues such as spiritual or emotional fulfillment in the workplace. These exercises are easy to do yet thought provoking. When completed, the workbook will present you with a full picture of your ideal job.』
『For nearly 30 years,What Color Is Your Parachute?has been the guiding light for those in pursuit of satisfying and fulfilling employment. This year's edition has been completely revised and rewritten and is designed to work in conjunction with the book's Web site. At the heart of Bolles's formula for finding the right job are two questions: What do you want to do? Where do you want to do it? Answer those and you're well on your way to finding the job you really want. Packed with time-tested advice,What Color Is Your Parachute?works as a good companion for those just starting out in the "real world" as well as for those who are thinking seriously about a career change.--Harry C. (What Color is Your Parachute:Retirement)
『Thus book us a timely addition to my library since I just retired last week. Good practical suggestions, very readable and easy to understand. It fully met my exoectations, offering the same quality I found in the origional "Parachute" book.』

(A Reasoned Leap of Faith)
『Richard Bolles and John Nelson lead people planning reitement through an exploraation of who they are and who they want to be. Through a wholistic approach, the future retiree is given the tools to examine the main issues involved in planning retirement. How to look at one's health, finances, environment, passions and social needs are put forth. A great manual for looking at what retirement can be for you.』

(Disappointment)
『Certainly not cut from the same cloth as the original "What Color . . ." publication. Far too much time spent discussing basics so widely covered elsewhere. I had hoped that there would be more "tools" provided for relevant decision making. This was a waste of good money.』

(Good checklist)
『This book covers things you might not have considered when looking at retirement, and encourages you to think about what's important in your life. It's a good guidebook for retirement.』

(Great read with great guidance and great referrals)
『This book is simply the best broad treatment of issues for the prospective retiree or already retired person that I am aware of. It covers all the bases and is presented in an easy-to-read style. It is meant to appeal to readers from a broad background and thus has content which is trivial in places (to me). But don't make reviewer George Fulmore's mistake of confusing the occasional trivial, repetitive, or (intentionally) internally contradictory words as meaningless or worthless: nothing could be further from the truth. Much of this reflects our society's ignorance, uncertainty and ambivalence about the topics under consideration, especially those that are now dramatically changing due to increasing life spans.

I particularly like the author's consistent inclusion of recommendations for further (and deeper) study and thought. I have uncovered a wealth of great material in following those leads.

『For more than 35 years, WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE? has guided millions of job-hunters to find satisfying careers. Now, PARACHUTE FOR RETIREMENT will help them plan for the next stage of life. Going beyond financial planning, Richard N. Bolles and retirement expert John E. Nelson tackle readiness in terms of money, health, and happiness, using the latest research from economics, medicine, and psychology. PARACHUTE FOR RETIREMENT will inspire readers to take the helm of their retirement destinies, while fulfilling their lifelong goals, passions, and dreams.』

(Best Study Aid Ever)
『This book is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it for any anatomy student with lab practicals. Rather than having to find a partner, drive to the school, and sit in the lab with a bone box, I was able to study by myself in my own living room. I would not be without it!』

(This book is awesome)
『Everyone should buy this. It's way better than Netter's and is great to review before and after a gross anatomy lab.』

(best atlas, has nothing on netter's)
『everyone raves about netters but last i checked the human body was actually a confusing mass of vessles, nerves and muscles and not picture perfect. yokochi's photographs help you get ready for any lab practical, show multiple views of everything and it's really great b/c if the axillary artery shows up every time the thorax is being shown, even if it's just off to the side in the arm, it's labeled every time, from every angle. that's the best part, multiple views and nothing is left out just because it doesn't fit into the section, it it's there, it's labeled.』

(Fantastic for med students)
『This book is a med student's best friend. I was having a difficult time learning anatomy from Netter, and hated spending time in the cadaver lab, so this book really saved me. I also like how the labels are numbered, with the answers on the bottom of the page, so you can cover them and quiz yourself.』

(Solid selection for Anatomy)
『This my first foray into a photographic anatomy book and I was quite pleased, that is not to say it did not have its issues.

The first thing you will notice with this book is, it's very high quality and attractive. It's a beautiful cover, sturdy material and the pages are thick and rigid. There are few, and for most people, no accidental tears that can occur with thinner pages.

The content itself was very thorough, but not complete. While nearly all structures in the body are shown, not all are labeled, which can easily lead to some confusion when trying to classify it, two examples I recall are the labial veins or in certain pictures identifying the maxillary vs transverse facial artery. Basic mistakes, but they'll happen if you need this book to learn. Of course, the pictures are so clear, if you have a schematic atlas, the labeling may not even be necessary, but for me I prefer everything labeled. On the same topic, they add at least one schematic representation of what structure they are representing (not near the depth of a separate atlas though), and when a secondary visual is needed they would highlight with paint. Examples of drawings, trajectorial lines of the femoral head, General architecture of a synovial joint, Meningeal coverings of the spinal cord.

Overall, this book gives a great understanding of how an actual human body will look but could be difficult to learn from; it's best to have an idealized view of it, such as Netter's or Grant's.

This atlas includes full-color photographs of actual cadaver dissections instead of idealized illustrations, to accurately and realistically represent anatomical structures. Often used by students as an alternative or supplement to their lab experience, and as an introduction to exactly what they should see before they dissect, as well as a study aid before practical/identification exams.

(A must have)
『This is such a beautiful book. I readily give, "The Colors of Us," as a gift to family and friends. It has such a gorgeous message and gives adults who haven't had as much exposure to different cultures a way to start a conversation. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Every family should own a copy, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.』

(Another favorite!)
『Another wonderful book for internationally adopted childen who want to know why their skin is a different color, etc. My daughter adopted from Guatemala LOVES this book!』

("Out of many, one people!")
『A far as race goes, there is but one race we belong to, the HUMAN RACE. Concerning skin color or pigmentation, we come in an assortment of shades: "brown," "olive," "cinnamon," "egg shell", etc. Never have I seen a "black", "white", "yellow", or "red" human being. It is ethnicity, culture, heritage, etc. that makes us as humans differ. COLORism, in my opinion, persists today because we refuse to acknowledge that we are at the core the same. Our pigmentation has nothing to do with anything: "out of many, one people!" The definition of race needs, as was the definition of sex vs. gender, to be amended.』

(good for pre-k kids)
『I teach special education pre-k in a culturally diverse school. I think it's a wonderful way to introduce a complicated concept like racial diversity. And for the reviewers who said this book was "shallow" and "one-sided", let me say one thing: DUH! This book is written for small children who have not yet grasped abstract, higher order thinking. What do you expect 4 year olds to read? Alex Haley's "Roots"? Get over yourself--if you want a complex, thorough book on racial diversity, go get a college text book.』

(Love it!)
『Such a cute book with a strong message. I am an early elementary education major and I am currently increasing my classroom library. This will definately be one of the books that I make available to my students. Great book.』

(Too much Religious Nonsense)
『It's a good book and helpful, but there is too much religious reference in the beginning and the end about god and your mission in life and all that. Not everyone is religious and not everyone believes in god (or Bolle's version of one) . It really has no place in this book unless the book is subtitled "A practical manual for Christian job hunters." I hope the 2009 version is toned down or at least gives some warning to those of us who may find it a bit bias.
However it does has some helpful hints about thank you notes and interviews that I found useful.』

(THE book for job hunters)
『This is something like the 10th edition of the landmark job hunting handbook, What Color is Your Parachute? This book is great because, like all the others, it gets you thinking about what job is right for YOU. Aka, in what kind of job will you succeed because you'll be able to flourish by applying your strengths. This new, 2009 edition is also geared toward the tough job market we're facing today in our troubled economy.

Another key book for job hunting is The Emotional Intelligence Quick Book. A lot of employers look for emotionally intelligent candidates these days, and the book comes with a test to show you where you need to improve (the book shows you how to improve).』

(Great resource....for finding a job or finding your purpose)
『I have browsed through the book, and read selected portions, and so far, I have found this to be really useful. I am not looking for a job, but wanted a tool to evaluate and identify what I have to offer as a member of the employment pool. I think this will prove to be a great resource.』

(What color is your parachute)
『The book is interesting so far. Could give a better review following the completion of the book.』

(Great Book. Get the New Version!)
『The new version is worth the money. I got the 2001 (from the library) and 2009 version (from amazon). The 09 version is not only updated with the most current internet information (a lot has changed since 01 to make that version out of date), it is sequenced and ordered completely differently and includes "the parachute workbook" integrated into the text... no flipping back and forth through the appendices. I think every high school career class should use this book. It is great for any time in life, and I will use his principles/strategies for reflection on an ongoing basis. It definitely would have been helpful in picking my college major...I am going to recommend this to my younger sister, and keep using it myself.』
