(Best mat...hands down) 『If you're into yoga enough that you'd even entertain the idea of spending $75 for a mat, then you've come to the right place. Manduka's BlackMatPRO 71 is an incredible mat that will stand up to your level of yoga practice.
First of all, the thing weighs about 7 pounds. Yes, 7 pounds. Why? One word: quality.
*Put this mat down on carpet, and you'll have no problems--it will not buckle or give in downward facing dog.
*It's very "tacky" and I have never had any problems with it slipping on hard surfaces, or with my hands or forearms slipping, even while damp with sweat.
*At 71 inches (that's 5 ft 11 inches), it's also a bit longer than most yoga mats, which makes it nice for when you are doing something like corpse pose. (There's also an 85 inch version for you giants out there!) It's also wider (26 inches) than most yoga mats.
*It's 1/4 inch thick. It's soft to the touch, but it's not spongy so you're not as likely to lose your balance in tree pose.
Don't get me wrong: you can find much cheaper products that will totally do the trick. I've used those product for the past 6 years. But, with those products, I always had problems with buckling and the mat becoming slick once I started sweating. I am very glad that I stepped-up and bought this mat.
All-in-all this is a great mat and definitely worth the price if you are really into yoga.
I'd also recommend that you go ahead and pick up some sort of carrier for it (make sure it's big enough to accommodate it first), and Manduka makes a pretty nice one as a complement: the Manduka Large Mat Sak.
If you sweat a lot, then you'll probably also want to grab a towel: Manduka Large eQua Towel. All of these products together will run you about $160, which is A LOT, I know, but what price is ultimate comfort when you're practicing your daily asanas?』

They seem like pretty indestructible straps if they are used in yoga studios in so many places! I originally got another brand in 6'. After using these in class, I found I needed the little bit extra length of the 8'. Also, the other brand had a metal end cover--which initially I thought "oh it's so sturdy!" until I pulled to loosen and that metal cap cracked me in the head! And that metal tip seemed to keep hitting me every time I tried to rearrange the strap! Bad karma there. I purchased the metal D-ring version but also used the plastic buckle in class--both are real nice and very easy to use. I can't remember my reasoning for buying the metal D-rings when I had that incident with the other metal object, but I haven't hurt myself with this strap at all! I think someone else recommended the metal versus plastic since plastic can break faster than metal? I dunno. I don't pick one over the other in class though, and this is for home use only. In a nutshell, it is very tightly woven cotton, sturdy but soft to the touch. Great for reclining big toe pose (aka strap around foot and hold leg in air by strap). If in doubt, go with the 8' length so you don't try something new and think "if only I'd gotten the longer one!" Hugger Mugger products seem to be the industry standard for good reason.』

But after learning a few poses in class with the strap, the 6' was too short for comfort, and ended up buying an 8' strap instead. Then after getting into it a little more, I realized I needed two blocks instead of just one. Now I have a mismatched set of colors, but that's just my preference to have a matched set. THEN in class we used the cork block--wow whatta difference in support! I am getting the cork instead of the foam now. My suggestion is IF you are short, like 5' tall, and are good with one block for now, it is a good starter kit. BUT my suggestion is to get the 8' H.M.strap and check out the H.M.cork block. It is soft to the touch but doesn't feel as squishy as foam. This will be a set that, for about the same price or few $ more, will last you a lifetime.』
