(very good)
『well i think the movie was well done they picked the perfect people to play the right parts i can watch that movie over and over again.』

("Set it off like Vivica!"...(Notorious Big))
『I ordered this one through Amazon, it's a classic and has Jada Pinkett in it...(pause for the cause)...she is fine! Ok, back to the review...I ordered it and it came within a few days which was cool cause, I really wanted to check it out. I won't go into the movie, you can read up on that if you choose but as far as my experience goes, I enjoyed the movie when it first came out and I still like to watch it from time to time. Ordering was easy and I suggest it for anyone's movie collection. YMMV. NEOSOUL06.』

(review)
『Iam pleased with my purchases from amazon. they always get me my orders in a hurry and I will stay a loyal customer for years.』

(Kick a55 movie with a decent soundtrack)
『Another flick in my collection that gets frequent watches. Set It Off features four women that finally had it with being dealt fates bad hands. They come up with ideas to rob a bank. Of course, if the job is successful. Why not try it again? I mean, that's what I did... or would do. I will tell you this, these women are fine and we can share a hot tub for real. Threesomes is cool and even four but there is always room for one more.

The acting is very solid to me and this group of bandits is impossible to dislike. The writing is good and there is a bit of character development. The action scenes are pretty good and the movie never slows down to me.

If action and drama is your thing then check this out. It can feel a bit light hearted and funny at times. But make no mistake, I know plenty of people who went to tears watching this. Also if you're a fan of R&B especially, it would be ok to pick up the soundtrack too. Now, I'm not THAT crazy about R&B. I usually keep it around just to set the mood. But the soundtrack does get spins once in awhile. Even though at times it feels like a mixed bag.』

(Not to be missed!)
『Set It Off is a brilliant film about ordinary women driven to a life of crime by circumstances beyond their control. A sibling murdered by police, a child taken away unfairly by a social worker, an abusive employer -- that and more push them over the edge.

The performances here are so wonderful, that you can forgive any flaw. You just may have seen this good-folks-gone-bad story line done before, but never quite so compellingly. Queen Latifa is a standout in the cast, and every one was outrageously good!

This is a DVD that belongs in your collection, especially if you're looking for a movie to watch with friends. It's the kind of film you'll talk about for quite some time. Don't miss it!』

『Even when it misses a dramatic opportunity in favor of generic action,Set It Offbenefits from a sharp understanding of its well-drawn central characters. They're a quartet of young African American women in Los Angeles (Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, Kimberly Elise), all struggling against a system that seems designed to prevent them from realizing their dreams. The movie establishes their plight with credible attention to emotional detail, making their decision to rob banks believable enough to give the ensuing plot its inevitably tragic momentum. Cowritten by the screenwriter ofWhat's Love Got to Do With It?, the film conveys genuine compassion for its characters, and the ensemble cast is uniformly strong--especially Queen Latifah as a brash lesbian whose fate is as certain as her forceful attitude.

Set It Offexpresses a real sense that these women have been close friends for years, and that gives the film additional impact, even when their transition to crime and violence feels somewhat forced and superficial. A romantic subplot involving Pinkett and a social-climbing banker (Blair Underwood) is too contrived to be convincing, and director F. Gary Gray (Friday) tries too hard to combine hard-hitting action with social relevance (a weakness shared by Gray's following film,The Negotiator). Still,Set It Offeffectively avoids passing judgment; its emotional complexity transcends simple notions of right and wrong, injecting vitality--and a kind of renegade integrity--into the traditions of a familiar plot.--Jeff Shannon

『Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons star in Elizabeth I, a two-part HBO Films miniseries event that explores the intersection of the private and public life of Elizabeth I (Mirren) in the latter half of her reign, offering a personal look at her allies, her enemies and her suitors as she struggles to survive in a male-dominated world. Part 1 explores Elizabeth's tempestuous relationship with the Earl of Leicester (Irons) as it survives a French suitor, war, treason, and illness. Part 2 follows Elizabeth through her later years, during which she had an equally passionate affair with the young, ambitious Earl of Essex (Hugh Dancy), who had been raised, ironically, by his stepfather Leicester. In the end, Elizabeth I sheds light on one of the most popular members of the monarchy who held absolute power over everything... except her heart.』

IPhone 3G used's review
(Fun and entertaining!)
『This movie was one of the best I have seen in a while .It was very funny and entertaining.』

(Dull - - I walked out)
『Maybe a movie can be comedy, ironic satire, and musical all at once, but it's a tough balancing act to pull off.
For example, the opening song "Baltimore" should be hilarious - - the whole idea of singing in delight of a famously dull city - - but instead drags on too long and can't quite decide whether to be serious about itself. In fact, all the songs last too long. I suppose that speaks to the quality of the song writing ("is the damn thing over yet?").
Or consider the domestic scenes, exaggerated proletarian misery in wildly perky pastels. Is it supposed to be misery? Or Disney Channel comedy? or a mockery of misery? In the end it looks like they wanted to make fun of miserable conditions, while still being nice to them, but also not being too scary for the kids in the audience or offending the sponsors (god forbid the movie should have the ferocity of, ahem, a John Waters film).

Can't review the entire movie because I walked out after about 20 minutes of this idiocy.

(Boring and Insincere)
『The whole family fell asleep watching this one: wife, 3 kids, family dog, me.

We thought it would be fun because we laughed so much when we saw the original (the one with Divine).

And it marks the end of the civil rights era as far as I'm concerned. The issues are presented in such a light-weight, ho-hum, humdrum way, by such light-weight actors, that it's practically a slap in the face to anyone who really cares about civil rights.

I miss Divine.』

(Hairspray (Full-Screen Edition))
『Bought this for my niece and WE love it! If you loved the original Hairspray, you'll definitely love this remake. The cast is cute, fun to watch.』

(Timeless fun and energy)
『I ordered the movie for my mom to enjoy on her visit. She is a huge John Travolta and Queen Latifah fan. They did not disappoint. In fact she loves them even more now. The movie is funny, witty, and moving. I think my favorite parts are the beginning, the middle, and the end. And the music is amazing!』
『It's 1962, and change is in the air in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion--to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and is transformed overnight from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can the trendsetting Tracy win the heart of teen-dream Link Larkin and stand up for what she believes in, despite the program's scheming stage manager? All she needs is her best friend Penny, a toe- tappin' beat - and a little HAIRSPRAY!』
『It's rare that a movie captures the intensity and excitement of a live Broadway musical production while appealing to a broader movie-going audience, but the 2007Hairsprayis an energetic, powerfully moving film that does just that. A remake of the 1988 musical filmHairspray, the newHairsprayis a film adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical and features more likeable characters than the original film and an incredible energy that stems from a great cast, fabulous new music, and the influence of musical producer Craig Zadan. What remains constant throughout all three versions ofHairsprayis the story's thought-provoking exploration of prejudice and racism. Set in Baltimore in 1962, the film opens with chubby girl Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) singing her heart out in a rendition of "Good Morning Baltimore" that, while admittedly a bit too long, sets the farcical tone for the film. Viewers quickly become immersed in Tracy's teenage world of popular television dance shows, big hair, the stigma of being different, and the first hesitant steps toward racial integration within a segregated world. The Corny Collins (James Marsden) television dance show is a teenage obsession in Tracy's world and Link Larkin (Zac Efron) is every girl's dream partner, so when a call for auditions goes out, Tracy skips school to try out, but is rejected by station manager Velma von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer) because of her large size and the threat of competition for Velma's own daughter Amber (Brittany Snow). Perseverance and the support of her friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), father Wilbur (Christopher Walken), and negro dancer Seaweed (Elijah Kelley) lead Tracy to the spotlight and the chance of a lifetime, but more and more Tracy discovers that fairness and equality for those who are different does not come without a fight and that sacrifices must be made to effect change. While the message is serious,Hairsprayis first and foremost a comedy with stellar performances by John Travolta as Edna Turnblad (who ever imaginedSaturday Night Fever's iconic star would appear onscreen as a woman?), Christopher Walken, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Part of what makesHairsprayso powerful is the exceptional music composed by Marc Shaiman, including songs newly composed for the movie like "Ladies' Choice," "The New Girl in Town," and "Come So Far," and the awesome vocal talents of Queen Latifah (Motormouth Maybelle) and a cast of heretofore musically-unknown actors like Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, and Brittany Snow who really can sing. Notable trivia includes Jerry Stiller's appearance in both versions of the film (as Wilbur in the 1988 film and as Mr. Pinky in this 2007 rendition), and a cameo appearance by 1988 director and screenplay writer John Waters.Hairsprayis one of the best films of the year--it's powerfully moving entertainment that leaves you energized and motivated to fight for what you believe in.--Tami Horiuchi
