Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (An Amazing Performance!) 『Excellent performance! Queen plays a lot of their hits, including my faves of theirs: Bohemian(sp) Rhapsody, and We are the Champions. Freddie also sings a few hits by other stars, such as an Elvis Presley song, and one of Rickie Nelson's. I must say that they may even be better than the originals. I was a little disappointed that Queen did not sing their song "You're My Best Friend." But, that is a minor point. The songs and performance are wonderful...and I play the DVD frequently. The world really lost an amazing man and an excellent performer when Freddie Mercury passed away. Definitely a five star performance: All Queen fans will surely love this DVD. I know I do!』
(The Return Of The Queen) 『Oh that was a terrible Lord Of The Rings pun wasn't it? Besides they weren't "The Queen" at all! Just plain old Queen. But it does maybe describe the idea of Queen returning to something. In this case, public popularity.
I know that Live At Wembley is arguably Queens most popular show, but if I may say so (and it's my review so I can) I don't think that this is Queens greatest ever live show.
What some may not realise is that in the 1970s Queen weren't a stadium rock band at all (if you exclude Hyde Park). They played small to medium mainly indoor venues and managed to connect with the audience in a way that few, if any, bands have achieved before or since. Here though, it's stadium rock all the way. Well that kind of goes with the territory! Queen were somewhat different when it came to studio performances and live shows; in the studio they were usually perfectionists, with a crafstmanship like dedication to songs (in fact that came as something of a criticism from those who liked it rawer and more spontaneous) On stage they proverbially let their hair down, here it was all about giving the crowd 2 hours of entertainment, mainly heavy rock.
I was 16 when they first showed this on TV, and there was a lot of interest around the band at the time. The reason mainly being Live Aid. With that one event Queen went from being rock dinosaurs that were totally unfashionable among the school crowd to the freshest force in rock for a long time. (At least in the UK, can't speak for other places) The release of Highlander and a slew of some good songs further increased the publics anticipation. (Come on, everyone was really hoping for 2 hours of Queen at Live AId here!) And this is undeniably a good show, both musically and that indefinable "event atmopshere". But I don't think that this is the live peak of Queen. By this time they had turned into basically hard rock fast food. Ouch, that sounds harsh doesn't it? But this is a long way from the creativity of the pre 1977 albums, and they perform the songs with a kind of complacency that befits 40 year olds playing to an adoring audience. They're not trying to win anyone over skeptics here, it's largely a workmanlike performance. They know they're good, they know the audience know they're good, they know....okay, you get the idea. The crowd came with high expectations, they duly delivered, everyone goes home satisfied. Many of the older songs are just dashed off with a kind of "Oh well, the crowd want to hear this,so I suppose we'd better play it" The plaintiff ballad part of Bohemian Rhapsody is reduced to Mercury going "Mama. Just killed a man. Put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger now he's dead." with a smile towards the audience. We Are The Champions suffers from a similar lack of musical passion. Apart from that Freddie Mercury's voice is a bit hit and miss here; he was a heavy smoker at the time, and the rigours of touring and just old wear and tear through age have reduced his sharpness somewhat. Often he sings well here, but make no mistake he sang better than this even in the early 1980s.
Criticism over. There are actually a lot of good perfromances here. Highlights are the more rocking version Kind Of Magic, quite different from the slightly eerie stuido version, a great version of Under Pressure, a great 50s Rock And Roll medley, and a really rousing version of In The Lap Of The Gods (if only they could have shown this kind of emotion of their other early songs!) Good also to hear their early hit Seven Seas Of Rhye make an appearance. And naturally Tie Your Mother Down sounds great, but how can you mess up that one? It's the closest thing to the perfect rock and roll song you can get.
On a somewhat sadder note, Freddie Mercury knew he had AIDS at this time. He actually managed longer that he thought (he though he wouldn't make it past 1989) So when you see the man strutting around the stage, you see him with his "the show must go on" attitude. He knew this would be his last tour, so this concert has an added poignancy to it.
In summary I think that Live At Wembley is a good DVD of live music and worth buying. There is a good mixture of hardness to quieter songs (or light and shade as John Deacon remarked) Few people want to go to a show and get 2 hours of acoustic or piano ballads, but at the same time the band do slow it down on occasion for musical diversity. It starts off loudly and fiercely, they slow it down for a bit and throw in some acoustic songs, then they build to a climax. Just like every other Queenc concert since 1971 in fact. Although essentially hard rock, Queen were a band that managed to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. BUT....Queen did batter live performances than this. This pales in comparison to their classic Hammersmith Odeon 1975 show, or The Rainbow 1974, or Earls Court 1977,or....you get the idea. Even their shows at Milton Keynes 1982 or Montreal 1982 were arguably better than this. As a comparison which you may or may not relate to ,this is like Jimi Hendrix at The Isle Of Wight compared to Monterey, or The Who's Last comapred to Live At Leeds. If you think this show is good you should do yourself a favour and try to hear some of their earlier concerts.』

I just feel sorry for my neighbors everytime I play this because I blast it on my surround sound everytime I watch it. I even bought one for my grand kids so they could see what GOOD music really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!』
(Ultimate Queen Concert) 『Awesome sound and video. Freddie Mercury has proven why he and Queen were the best. Freddie is such a showman that you cannot take your eyes off of him or you are afraid you'll miss something! What a voice range! (Truly was an Event to Never Forget) 『Live Aid shows the physically terrible and yet the internally passionate people of the '80s. Other people b**** because somey artists are missing from the package, failing to realize that just by purchasing this product they are a helping hand part of a far bigger picture. It was the late '80 with many televised technical difficulties, and it was never Geldof's intention to record the event. Some of the artist were past their prime (The Beatles), others hailed the time when MTV actually played music (Sting), and a few just looked downright insulting (Bono), but all made you remember when we rock n roll was just rock n roll.』
(Queen-Rock Montreal + Live Aid) 『This video was a look back at Queen with Freddie Mercury at the height of their careers in 1981 in Montreal and their appearance at Live Aid in 1985. The concert was just four members of the band at their best showcasing their talent and the spectacular stage presence they had. Freddie Mercury was a fantastic frontman and their Live Aid performance will always be remembered as the best 20 minutes of that show.』
(It Rocks!) 『SPECTACULAR! For my money, this is the definitive Queen concert film, capturing the band at the peak of its musical powers. Its also a film (originally titled "We Will Rock You") with a long and storied history and with several previous releases - but if you've seen it before, you've never seen it like this! Queen was recently able to acquire the rights to this film and they have overseen its complete top-to-bottom overhaul. The original film elements, shot on 70mm film for the highest quality image, have been completely cleaned, color corrected and restored, re-edited, and the original 24 track audio has been completely remastered and remixed to the band's exacting standards. This means you get a film that has never looked better and never sounded better. The image is gorgeous and looked amazing on my 50" HD TV, with great detail, deep blacks and beautiful vivid color courtesy of the band's bold on stage lighting rig. You really have to see it to appreciate just how good the show looks. The audio is breathtaking, with every nuance captured, from Roger Taylor's relentless drums, to John Deacon's thundering bass, from Brian May's crystal clear guitar to Freddie Mercury's glorious, emotive vocals. And the performance is fantastic - fast, furious, energetic, dynamic - with unsurpassed performances of "Somebody to Love", "Save Me", "I'm in Love with My Car", Dragon Attack", and the first ever public performance of "Under Pressure". This is the real deal, folks. This is Queen at their absolute best. And the addition of the Queen set from Live Aid is tremendous to finally have on its own. Perhaps the single best 20 minutes of the band's career, I am thrilled to be able to have it on a single disc.』

To respond to some concerns about the DVD, they did not leave any parts of the movie out. When the first episode ends, be sure to go to the main menu and choose Episode two. That will show the parts of the film that people say are missing.
Also, coming from someone who has read the book more than once, no character in the film is random. They are all there for a purpose and their story is relevant to Queen's life in the book.』
(Great mini-series!) 『I'm so glad to see this finally available on DVD! Halle Berry is great as Queen, and the rest of the cast is awesome. The film is pretty true to the excellent book.』 『There are two sides to every story, the saying goes. For Alex Haley, one side was roots, the towering chronicle tracing severn generations of his mother's family. The othe side comes to the screen in Alex Haley's Queen, the remarkable history of a paternal side of the author's family. David L. Wolper (Roots, The Thorn Birds) is the executive producer of this acclaimed adaption of the story Haley was working on when he died. Halle Berry plays Queen, daughter of a slave (Jasmine Guy) and a plantation owner (Tim Daly). During the turbulent decades of the antebellum South, the Civil war, Reconstruction and beyond, she searches for a home in the two cultures of her heritage - and at times is shunned by both. Rejection and hate are no match for her unconquerable will, however. Ann-Margret, Danny Glover, and Ossie Davis are among the many stars of this poingnant, uplifting final chapter of the Haley legacy.』

Disc 1 includes 16 of Queen's most popular singles, restored and remixed in 5.1-channel Dolby Digital and DTS, and the results are nothing less than spectacular. (The title says it all on this great live Queen DVD!) 『In November of 2004, Queen released its fourth live album and fifth concert video Queen On Fire Live at the Bowl. This live DVD and its off-shoot album was recorded and filmed at The Milton Keynes Bowl outside London, England on June 5, 1982 and directed superbly by Directed by Gavin Taylor. Not officially released on video or CD, Queen On Fire Live At The Bowl marked the first time a recording of this concert has been LEGITIMATELY available to own as a 70 or 80 minute edit had been available on the bootleg recording circuit. Audio producers Justin Shirley-Smith and Kris Fredriksson returned to the original 24 track analog tapes recorded by 80s Queen co-producer Mack and Mick McKenna with The Rolling Stones Mobile Truck and created brand new regular stereo(for the CD and one of the two DVD mixes)) and DTS 5.1 surround sound mixes(found on the DVD). We kick off as the band hits the stage with the entrance music of Flash before the band dives into a spirited version of The Hero. Next is a killer We Will Rock You (fast version) complete with Brian May popping a guitar string and the music was left alone. Next is Action This Daywith drummer Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury duetting on this rocker and John Deacon adding some bass which was muted on the studio recording and Brian playing his Red Special backup as his Red Special had to get a new string and Morgan Fisher did a great synthesizer solo substituting for the saxophone solo. Then Freddie does a nice piano intro which goes into an excellent Play the Game. Next is another Hot Space track Staying Power which is transformed into a rocker with Deaky and May playing guitars plus Roger bashing live drums and Freddie being on fire here. Next is arguably this live set's best track Somebody To Love which buries its studio counterpart by a longshot. Next is Now I'm Here which is excellent with a Freddie/audience vocal duel before segueing into Dragon Attack which rocks although Brian blew yet another string on his Red Special guitar and had to use his Red Special back up for the finale solo and the reprise to Now I'm Here. Next is a nice version of Love of My Life with Brian playing an impromptu teaser of Las Palabras De Amor before starting the track. Save Me is next and is done with more power than the studio counterpart. Deaky's Back Chat ends the first CD as the funk track is turned into a full-on rocker with Roger playing the drums like a man possessed, Brian's guitar dominating, John playing his Music Man Stingray bass and Freddie singing his heart out. The second CD begins with Get Down Make Love which is a great short version which then segues from its middle section into Brian's Guitar Solo which is amazing despite the fact his guitar cord came undone(you can see this on DVD unedited) and Brian finishes with some help from Roger's drumming. Roger does an uncredited 30 second Drum Solo at the end of the guitar solo track as a lead in to Under Pressure which is an excellent version of the track. Next is Fat Bottomed Girls which rocks and Freddie's voice was electronically fixed on the part where he says LOCALITY which his voice cracked on the original Milton Keynes BBC airing. We then have a rocking Crazy Little Thing Called Love which is great. Then we have Freddie play a nice piano solo leading into possibly the best live version of Bohemian Rhapsody ever. We then rock out with the set closing Tie Your Mother Down which rocks. The first encore of Another One Bites the Dust is a great spirited version. Sheer Heart Attack follows and is more aggresive than either the News of the World version or the Live Killers version. We then have the second encore of the traditional We Will Rock You with audience participating and a stellar We Are the Champions. We then have the band say farewell as God Save the Queen plays over the PA. The second DVD features interviews with Brian and Roger backstage before the Milton Keynes show. Also, interviews with Roger and Brian and a separate Freddie interview filmed for Austrian TV talking about ten years of Queen. We also have some of the long out of print video Queen Live in Japan 1982 which has the band pulling out some songs not on the Milton Keynes how like Impromptu, Put Out the Fire and a spirited Teo Torriatte. Also, there is a photo montage set to the previously unreleased live reading of Calling All Girls. This DVD is recommended!』

Radio Ga-Ga's concept was to play around with wide-screen and full-screen video, so the original version changed back and forth between the two: most of the original version was in widescreen (with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen), but during certain sections the black bars disappeared and the video changed back to full-screen for dramatic effect. Since the tops and bottoms are cut off on this DVD, of course the whole effect is totally obliterated. Now, the edges of the video expand OUTWARDS during the key moments...but during the rest of the video, you end up seeing the whole video with black on the top and bottom of the screen, AND on the left and right! So you watch most of it in a small rectangle in the middle of your TV screen. Absolutely ridiculous.
And the point of DVDs was to show things in their original aspect ratio, without having to pan-and-scan left to right. Now, since the tops and bottoms are cut off, we're ironically back to pan-and-scan...except instead of going left-and-right, this footage on this DVD is panned-and-scanned up and down to compensate for what they cut off.
Still, this and the first volume of Greatest Video Hits both have so much content for the money, with even better sound than the CDs, so they're still an incredible bargain. And I'm sure one reason for the "fake" widescreen effect is so they can re-release the videos "restored and remastered" again correctly on Blu-Ray in a few years....』
(All of Queen's 80's videos on one DVD and then some!) 『The videos alone would have made a great package, but the bonus DVD makes it especially worthy of being in your video library. Among other things, you get to go inside the studio to see Queen recording their classic song "One Vision", as well as previously unseen videos, live footage and archived interviews with all four original band members. This DVD compilation is a true testament to what a phenomenal band Queen was, and how their music will live on for generations to come.』
