Kakaku:Pbs Paramount IPhone 3G used's review (WWII through the eyes of a modern progressive) ![]() ![]() 『This was not what I had expected. The content is concentrated on social issues rather than events of the war or strategies. While the footage and letters used are obviously valid and interesting glimpses of the times, it appears that the selection of material and editing was done with respect to a modern progressive mindset. There were a lot of gruesome deaths in the war and many minorities were treated unfairly. If these are the aspects of the war that you wish to learn about, then this is the documentary for you. Otherwise, you *will* find some interesting information with regard to the war itself, but you will have to endure the former to get to it.』 (One of the best overviews) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I usually don't respond to reviews (negative or positive) but some of the perspectives offered on THE PERILIOUS FIGHT really trouble me. I teach Advanced Placement U.S. History at a Southern California high school and I can tell you that I see virtually NO inaccuracies in this program. Some may indicate it's anti-American (and I'm not sure what that means)or that it glosses over certain elements of WWII. The film isn't revisionist, and "anti-war" activist Martin Sheen does a fine job of narration (if you're not anti ANY-war, something's wrong). Of course, these are only my viewpoints but if someone says a documentary or book is historically inaccurate, please make sure you can cite facts. I think many of these reviewers are like a fellow I once met who said he would be a great history teacher because he loves to watch the History Channel and is "really into" WWII. THE PERILOUS FIGHT is somewhat of a rarity--a literate interpretation of the war, much like two of the better books on the conflict: WARTIME (Paul Fussell) and CHOICES UNDER FIRE (Michael Bess). I encourage viewing of this program as it's compelling, multi-dimensional and non-biased.』 (Captivateing) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I didn't see this movie being anit-war or anti wwII at all. It wasn't until I saw other reviews that I even considered it. But really, its not. It talks about other things that were going on during the war, like civil rights and the wars effect on the American people. And It shows what America did before we entered the war. How Rosavelt ammeded laws so he could send arms to Britian and France. If you want to learn about death camps and hear extensive battle tatics then buy another movie. WWII was one of the most popular wars in our History, and I would say little if any of us Americans now do not believe that Hitler had to be stopped, the death camps had to be stopped. But that doesn't mean that war is pretty,or something to be seen through the rose collored glasses of glory. It costly and gruesom. It shows the triumph and defeat of both the American military and the American people. Our Patriotism and Our Internment Camps. Their worry and their pain. I think this was a beautiful movie. It covers things that most movies don't bother mentioning.』 (Somewhat revisionist; but entirely moving) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Reading the other reviews on this piece, I was startled to see people criticizing each other so harshly. I should think everyone would be aware by now that just about all history is currently taught or presented through the "politically correct" lens of our culture (for example, the holiday is called Thanksgiving not because the deeply religious Pilgrims were thanking the Native Americans only, but because they were grateful to God first and foremost--but since that bit of important information brings God into the classroom, it is often eliminated or changed). So yes, there were points of emphasis in this series that seemed a bit forced in their inclusion, but for all that, it was, over all, deeply moving, and, as far as I could tell, mostly accurate. Part of the negative reaction may be because of Mr. Sheen's being the narrator; he does a wonderful job, but if it had been, say, Charlton Heston, the reviews might have been slightly less negative. All of which goes to say that, the less viewers know about an actor or actress' political views, the more likely they are to enjoy the presentation; and an alert and creative teacher in a more conservative private school could still use this series for teaching not only about WW II, but also how the current academia interprets it. After all, how history is viewed is part of history itself.』 (Different Perspective, Hardly Anti-American) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Toss the tiresome cry from the right in the previous review aside. This video is about World War II through an American lens. It provides an interesting, FACTUAL, balanced perspective of World War II as it was viewed by Americans on the home front at the time, largely through letters and film of life at home and for soldiers in the field. Contrary to popular belief, not all Americans were supportive of the war throughout the entirety of their country's involvement in it. People got tired of losing their sons, husbands, and fathers, as well as the many sacrifices they had to make to support the war effort. That fatigue is reflected here, as well as Americans' biting the bullet about these things because they knew this was a war that had to be won. This is not a 'this happened in this battle and that happened at that battle' kind of set. If you want that kind of a a comprehensive DVD set about WWII, you are better off with the excellent but pricey "World at War" set. If you want a lot of jingoism and unquestioning flag-waving, this is not the set for you, either. This DVD is highly recommended.』 『 The Perilous Fight - America's World War II in Color 』 『 World War II in Color - The British Story 』 『 Tora! Tora! Tora! Music by Britten, Part, Bach, Scarlatti and even listenable Cage provide the inspiration for the movements. The dancers are amazing and the choreography top drawer world class fantastic. Two discs of terrific works. Solo, for 3 male dancers done to Bach's Partita for solo violin is my favorite, truly dazzling, athletic, and so right with the music. Kakaku:Brain Damage Films; Maxim Media International Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Indie Horror Worth A Look) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Torment is a low-budget horror film from director Steve Sessions. I played a supporting role in the film as one of the victims so I may be a little biased in my review. For the budget it had, the movie looks great. Suzi Lorraine pulls off a convincing portrayal of a woman who falls deeper and deeper into a world of a serial killer offing locals which may or may not be actually happening. Until her husband (Tom Stedham) is murdered, then what was thought to be all in her head becomes a living nightmare. This has all the classic elements of a psychological slasher film. The final half hour really kicks into gear and is a non-stop thrill ride until the very end. For such a small cast, I can assure you there is a high body count. This film uses the "torture porn" aspect but those scenes are pretty low key and not too disturbing. Rent it or buy it when it comes out. All who were involved worked extremely hard on it and had an awesome time making it. 』 (TORMENT rocks!!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This movie was a lot of fun to make. Suzi is a great actress, and willing to help others when they need it. I didn't get to work with some of the cast members, so I had to watch the movie to see their great performances. The opening scene, where the evil clown tortures --- oh; I have to stop. I don't want to give anything away. Let me just say that watching Jade Lafont get tortured to death sets the tone right away for the rest of the movie. This is one sick clown! And I'm warning everyone now, there are some really, REALLY big roaches in the movie. I know that some people are freaked out by clowns. But when I saw these giant cockroaches crawling across the floor... Ewwww. It seems like a lot of "directors" are making low-budget horror movies these days. TORMENT is one you should make the effort to see. And it will be shown at OMEGACON, the huge sci-fi convention in Birmingham, AL March 14-16. Suzi Lorraine is a featured guest there. Come see her and get your dvd autographed.』 『From the makers of DEAD CLOWNS ("one of the most effective indie horror films I've seen in years" - bloody-digusting.com) comes a new tale of coulophobia! Suzi Lorraine (Chainsaw Sally, Satan's Schoolgirls) plays Laura Wiggington, a woman recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital. Her husband Ray (Tom Stedham) takes her to an isolated river cottage to recover. There she is stalked by a psychopathic clown named Dissecto (Lucien Eisenach -- Hellbound: Book of the Dead) who performs macabre "tricks" for his literally captive audiences. But does the clown really lurk nearby or only in the dark recess of Laura's troubled mind?』 『 Torment 』 『 Nature Morte 』 『 Slaughtered 』 『 Home Made 』 『 Satan's Whip 』 another good item omega fetish『 The Trap 』
Kakaku:Film Movement Not yet released IPhone 3G used's review (Analyzing the Heart (inside and out)) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a chilling, thought-provoking, densely packed, highly emotionally charged and gripping film about personal choices and the consequences that follow. Set in Serbia after the most recent Balkan War, it is a time of inflation, competition and corruption. It difficult for an average, middle-class working family to cover the costs of an exorbitantly high surgical procedure, a life-saving one which is only available in Germany. The Pavlovic family, Mladen (the dad) and Marija (the mom) learn their only child, a son Nemanja who is a swimming champion at the local elementary school has a serious heart condition which is life-threatening. The doctor explained he will continue to have heart seizures without warning and may eventually die unexpectedly from one. Mladen, the father is a supervisor at what was the most prominent Civil Engineering Firm under the old regime but it has fallen on hard times and needs an infusion of foreign investment to remain competitive and successful. Marija is a high school English teacher. Together they make just enough money for a comfortable life in Belgrade, living in a large apartment building meeting their financial obligations month to month and from paycheck to paycheck. The family is unable to secure a bank loan, having no collateral. They are anxiety ridden, feeling totally helpless backed against an insurmountable wall, unable to help their only child. The director uses the camera to maximum effect, shooting close shots of facial expressions and using long shots to capture the grimness of cityscapes. There is a stark local park and children's playground nearby where Nemanja meets a spoiled, precocious little girl from a wealthy family, close to his age. Mladen exchanges pleasantries with her mother as they children become friends ... Marija takes out an ad in the local newspaper asking for donations to meet the cost of the surgery to save her son's life. Mladen is not happy his wife took this drastic step to expose their personal problem to the world. Mladen feels trapped with no way out ... until he receives an anonymous phone call offering him 30,000 Euro (exactly the cost of the operation and traveling expenses) to do an execution. Mladen has no idea who the victim will be and mulls over the idea. He concludes he has no way out but to accept this offer ... It is after this point that Mladen attempts to hide his secret but his life keeps unraveling, thread by thread as his emotions are erratic and uncontrollable. He makes a second fatal decision ... This is an amazingly outstanding and sensitive film which explores a difficult subject, creating mystery, suspense, drama and a power-packed resolution. It is most highly recommended. Erika Borsos [pepper flower] 』 『Post-Milosevic Belgrade is the capital of a nation struggling to find its soul, of a country whose turbulence has left many in a moral and existential desert. This is the home of Mladen, his wife Marija and their son Nemanja. When Nemanja develops a serious heart condition, the doctors urge an expensive operation abroad. Just when the boy s parents give up hope of raising the money, a man contacts Mladen and offers to pay the whole amount; in exchange, he must kill the man s business rival. The proposal repulses Mladen, but as his son s condition suddenly deteriorates, he begins to seriously consider the offer. If he accepts, he saves his boy s life but loses his soul; if he refuses, he will grieve as a righteous man until the end of his life. The trap is set....』 fetish『 The Fat Albert Easter Special 』 Classic Media Not yet released 『While Fat Albert and the Cosby kids give old Mudfoot's shack a surprise cleaning on Easter, Rudy decides to play a trick on his friends.
