Great acting, well scripted lines and wonderful story that keeps you wanting more. The soundtrack is super too (I own it as well as the movie). The movie is quite magical, one that you can watch with your family over and over again...』
(practical magic) 『I'm very much into the good side of witches, magic, voodoo, vampires and this sort. This movie is about good witches. Very good movie. I love Sandra Bullock. I couldn't find this movie anywhere. Thanks Amazon!』
(Excellent Movie) 『I love the movie and I liked all the actors. I watch the DVD often it is a fun movie.』
(practical majic) 『Practical MagicThis product was in great condition. I love it. Thanks. And the price and shipping were great.』
(My favorite movie since... jr. high, actually!) 『Yes, I am perfectly aware that this movie strays far and away from the book (which I also happen to love). However, I think the wonderful themes were kept and the story changed enough to give this film its own magic.
I like it because it tells the tales of two very different women who happen to be sisters. I like sisterhood tales because I'm sentimental that way. And, call me a sucker, but I loved the dreamy romance. I know relatively little about Wicca and don't wish to accidentally offend anyone, but I kind of liked the witchcraft this film portrayed. It was pretty, classic, and properly spooky.
Nicole Kidman is a goddess and Sandra Bullock is as cute as they come. The rest of the cast certainly held their own.
It's cute, spooky, and gives warm fuzzies. That's good enough for me and I have proclaimed this my favorite movie for about ten years now.』 『If a broom falls, company is due. When a circle rings the moon, trouble looms, Should you misplace your broom, sorry; a hand vac can't be used in an exorcism rite. Fun and excitement abound in the Owens family of wily witches. One problem, though: the men the Owens women fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman bring a sparkling screen magic to Practical Magic, adapted from Alice Hoffman's bestseller and directed by Griffin Dunne (Addicted to Love). They play Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters hexed by a centuries -old curse...and coping with a witches brew of events involving a possible love match (Aidan Quinn) for one, a zombie (Goran Visnjic) for the other and a need to resume the age-old witchcraft taught by two doting Owens aunts (Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest). Sit for a spell and enjoy.

』 『Actor Griffin Dunne improves a bit on his first film as a director,Addicted to Love, with this drama-comedy about a family of witches. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play spell-casting sisters of different temperaments: the former is a high-living, free-spirited sort, while Bullock's character is a homebody who can't get around a family curse that kills the men in their lives. A widowed single mom, Bullock gets into a jam with an abusive Bulgarian (Goran Visnjic) and is helped out by her sibling, but the result brings a good-looking, warm, inquisitive cop (Aidan Quinn) into their lives. The film has a variety of tonal changes--cute, scary, glum--that Dunne can't always effectively juggle. But the female-centric, celebratory nature of the film (the fantasies, the sharing, the witchy bonds) is infectious, and supporting roles by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Kidman and Bullock's magical aunts are a lot of fun.--Tom Keogh』

I usually get sick of movies very quickly, but no matter how many times I watch this movie..it just takes my breath away. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.』 『From one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animated cinema comes the most acclaimed film of 2002. Hayao Miyazaki's latest triumph, filled with astonishing animation and epic adventure, is a dazzling masterpiece for the ages. It's a "wonderfully welcoming work of art that's as funny and entertaining as it is brilliant, beautiful, and deep" (Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal). SPIRITED AWAY is a wondrous fantasy about a young girl, Chihiro, trapped in a strange new world of spirits. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, she must call upon the courage she never knew she had to free herself and return her family to the outside world. An unforgettable story brimming with creativity, SPIRITED AWAY will take you on a journey beyond your imagination. On the way to their new home, the petulant adolescent and her parents find what they think is a deserted amusement park. Her parents stuff themselves until they turn into pigs, and Chihiro discovers they're trapped in a resort for traditional Japanese gods and spirits. An oddly familiar boy named Haku (Jason Marsden) instructs Chihiro to request a job from Yubaba (Suzanne Pleshette), the greedy witch who rules the spa. As she works, Chihiro's untapped qualities keep her from being corrupted by the greed that pervades Yubaba's mini-empire. (Just Friends) 『My family loves this movie. It has quickly become our favorite. We watch it all the time. I highly recommend it!』
(Don't Ever hide your feelings for that special one) 『Just Friends is a good comedy about two friends who falls inlove with each other at the last minute once life gives them a second chance. Just Friends stars Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris,&Chirs Klein.
Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) was a geeky and fat nerd back in high school who had a secret crush on his "bff" Jamie Palenmino (Amy Smart). Another guy in high school also had a crush on Jamie whose name is Dusty Dinkelman(Chris Klein) who dreamed on becoming a famous guitarist. After being embarrassed and rejected by Jamie at a high school graduation party, Chris soon moves to California where he becomes a hot music producer.
Being the number one hottest music producer in California, Chris comes across a famous pop star Samantha James (Anna Faris) who is deeply obsessed in becoming Chris' girlfriend. After having a slight problem in traveling to Paris with Samantha, Chris returns home in New Jersey and meets back up with his old high school buddies.
After returning home, Chris soon runs into Jamie after ten years of never seeing each other.
Chris and Jamie return in becoming 'bffs" again until Dusty gets back into the picture. Once Dusty is back in the picture, it soon becomes a game in winning Jamie's heart. Chris would also have problems with his younger brother Mike and Samantha he would have to deal with while on his way in trying to win Jamie's heart.
After days of back and forth competition, Chris soon finds out that Dusty is only in it to get back at Jamie for putting Dusty in the "friend-zone" back in high school.
After failing a number of times, Chris finally wins Jamie's heart and has a happily ever after with her.
Pretty good movie. I really liked it, it made me laugh a lot. I recommend on seeing this one.』
(Just plain fun; nothing wrong with that...) 『My best friend asked me the other day if I had ever seen this movie, to which I replied "no, it looked retarded." He then proceeded to try and convince me that it was hilarious and that I needed to see it as soon as possible. So I did, that night, rent this movie and I have to admit that my preconceived notion of what I was going to experience was very wrong. Thanks in large part to the revelation that is Anna Faris, `Just Friends' is actually extremely funny. Sadly, when Faris is not on the screen the film lags a little, but just a little.
The film opens with a hilarious scene where the obese Chris Brander sings All 4 One's `I Swear' while preparing to make the moves on his best friend Jamie Palamino. She's the hot girl and he's her fat best friend. The evening turns into a major debacle and Chris winds up leaving in tears. Cut to ten years later and Chris is not so big anymore; in fact he's one great looking physical specimen. With his new body came a new attitude (not a very good one) and a new career. An unexpected snag in plans leaves Chris in his hometown after swearing never to return and this leaves him in an awkward situation. Jamie is still around and feelings are obviously still there, but can someone ever really escape the `friend zone'?
Ryan Reynolds is not the greatest actor. I actually loved his performance in `The Amityville Horror' and had high hopes for him, but aside from that one performance he's a little stale. Here he manages a few laughs (especially when in the fat suit) but comes off a bit mechanical. I didn't really get his character (is he really that much of a jerk or just playing a part?) but he was forgivable. Amy Smart is her same sweet sexy self and delivers yet another decent performance. Again, she's not the greatest actress in the world but she works. Chris Klein (an actor I'm not too fond of) actually makes his soft spoken delivery work for him here and stands out as a great addition to the film. Chris Marquette is funny as Chris's younger brother Mike and Julie Hagerty is hilarious as Chris's mother Carol.
But I must stress yet again that this movie belongs to Anna Faris, who plays rising pop star Samantha James with such ferocious comedic timing you just wish the whole movie were about her. I would venture to say that this is the best thing Faris has ever done and cannot wait for her to top this. Why doesn't she have a bigger career yet?
`Just Friends' works at getting to our funny bone and that's really all we can ask for with a comedy of this nature. It's not your `mature' comedy like `Lost in Translation' or `Sideways' but it proves to be an above average generic comedy that makes it's weaknesses work for itself and creates a memorable experience the viewer can fully enjoy and one that you'll soon want to revisit.』
(Forgiveness is more than saying Sorry) 『If you are looking for comedy, maybe a little bit of revenge, or just something to reflect back on when you think you were the only odd one out, you definitely need to pick up this movie.
Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) was fat when he left his hometown in New Jersey 10 years before after being teased badly at a graduation party when he confessed his love for Jamie Pallamino (Amy Smart) in her year book, only to have it mixed up with her ex-boyfriends yearbook and read to the whole graduating class. Jamie apologizes to him to only tell him she loves him like a brother. So he leaves and only returns 10 years later because Samantha James (Anna Faris), a pop star that Chris is supposed to get signed, burns down the plane they are traveling in to Paris. After this fiasco, everything starts unraveling.
Personally, I felt bad to Chris because he went through alot in high school to only come 10 years later looking hot and making alot of money, also being very famous, only to have the same people who played him to want to be his friend now. Jamie wanted for Chris to be himself not realizing that he suffers from low self esteem and that the reason why he acts like a jerk is because that was the impression she gave of the only guys she dated. Samantha James is just hilarious in this movie and also explains much of his confusion most of the time.
I think the movie could have been a little better because I think there could have been more talking through the movie between Jamie and Chris, so that she could see his true feelings as to why he was not returning the same signals she was (at least not to her.) However it was a very well put together movie and it will definitely make you laugh a more than a few time. Just dont overanalyze the movie like some of these other low star movie reviewers. The movie is best seen when it is watched the way it was made. The movie, in the end, lets you know he did the right things. Hope this helps.』 『Back in high school, Chris (Reynolds) was an overweight nerd and in love with his best friend Jamie (Smart), but she only thought of him like a brother. Ten years later, Chris is now a hot L.A. music exec and finds himself himself back in his hometown and in love with Jamie all over again. But can they really be more than Just Friends?

』 『Manic energy and an agreeable level of comic insanity turnJust Friendsinto the kind of brainless comedy you can enjoy as a modest guilty pleasure. If you liked director Roger Kumble's previous comedyThe Sweetest Thing(and let's face it, that movie had somereallyfunny moments), chances are you'll get at least a few solid belly-laughs from this not-so-high-concept premise, in which a formerly fat high-schooler named Chris (Ryan Reynolds) is transformed, ten years later, into a womanizing music executive with a high-profile client (Anna Faris) in the Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera mold. As it zips along with some broad-stroked slapstick and snappy one-liners, the screenplay by Adam Tex Davis contrives to reunite Chris with Jamie (Amy Smart), the former cheerleader who was the great, unrequited love of Chris' miserable high-school life. By his narcissistic logic, he'll seduce her by treating her badly (i.e. she'll want what she thinks she can't have), but he gets unexpected competition in the form of a "Mr. Sensitive" type (Chris Klein, fromAmerican Pie), and it's pretty much Hollywood formula from there on, asJust Friendsloses momentum without losing its basic appeal. And while Reynolds invests his character with an unexpected degree of emotional nuance, Faris (Scary Movie 3) pulls out all the stops, going deliriously over-the-top to maintain her reputation as a rising comedy starlet with a (hopefully) promising future. We're not talking rocket science here, folks... just sit back, take off your thinking cap, and have some fun.--Jeff Shannon』

Since the director is said to be a gay male, this isn't much of a surprise.
I doubt the director's intention was ever to consider it as a serious horror movie, but just to poke fun at some of the bad horror flicks from the 1970s, which used attractive young women as victims instead of males.
I think many viewers will find this flick amusing, so long as they have a good sense of humor, instead of expecting to see a serious horror movie.
』
(words fail me) 『There are no words in the Oxford English Dictionary to describe how awful this movie is. It is in the truest sense of the word a HORROR movie. I think that it is highly unlikely that any of the people in it will want it on their CV. Can I have my money back please?』
(Here we go again!) 『Well David's never short on male skin, and that's fine with me, but Good Lord there must be better actors out there that look good in speedos. The homoerotic shower scene with Trevor Harris (complete with porn music background) is a classic. I can't remember the last time I showered with my swimsuit on. It shows the cutie washing off till he knocks himself out and the "leech" (a hand with a green puppet on it) slides in his mouth. Gee, no symbolism there........ One of his weaker movies, I much prefer the dramatic lighting and action in Brotherhood and VooDoo Academy, but definitely has more hunks in tight swimwear, and a so-so mystery. Worth a rental for Decocteau fans, not purchase.』
(Bringing the Genre to a new level) 『David Decoteau brings terror to a new level. The acting is sporadic, but the visual quality is very good, and there's lots of great looking guys in this film, for women (or men) who would find that fact appealing. The "special effects" could be better, but they serve their purpose. Continuity is fairly good (only a few things caught my eye). Enjoy it for what it is, if you're into the genre. ~ Leeches』
(Still Not The Worst...) 『Ok, the "leeches" are rubber leech-gloves on someone's hands, the swimteam is a collection of non-descript male models who cannot act or afford shirts, and the females are utterly useless. Yes, the plot is imbecilic and the dialogue is horrific. Still, I've seen worse. I have seen FRANKENSTEIN ISLAND, my choice for the movie most worthy of total annihilation! (Based on Jackson not Tolkien!) 『Let me start by saying that I loved the movies. But this commentary uses supposed Tolkien experts that have never read the books! In the movie Aragorn is a reluctant hero. In the actual novel Aragorn has been preparing his entire life to claim, not reclaim, the throne of Gondor. That is a huge discrepancy between the movies and the novel. I am surprised that the "experts" did not notice.』
(National Geographic slipped on this one) 『Where the original National Geographic Beyond the Movie - The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring was quite decent, providing an analogy of the creation of Middle Earth, and what personal events Tolkien probably inserted into his masterpiece, this one is the complete opposite.
While the concept basically is the same (interviews with the cast, experts, etc), the underlying theme is extremely poor. Basically the makers of this documentary start comparing characters in Lord of the Rings to real historical figures.
Wormtongue poisoned Theoden's mind with lies; Rasputin did the same. So Wormtongue might have been based on Rasputin. Aragorn dwelled in the wilderness for years, only to return and claim his throne. Theodore Roosevelt lost his wife and mother, and retreated to a ranch in Dakota; the wild. See the connection?
Characters in the Lord of the Rings most likely have not been based on any real persons. And if they were, I'm quite sure Professor Tolkien would have mentioned it somewhere. While even linking world events to Lord of the Rings was speculative, this is just stretching it.
Very poor.』
(Horrible Gradeschool Essay) 『"How LOTR is like real life". Each segment attempts to explain why some historical figure is like a character in the movie, or vise versa. Terrible, bad - a middle school student could write a better script than this crap. Not even worth a rental.』 『How do ordinary people find the strength within themselves to change the course of the future? What inspires a reluctant hero to become a courageous leader? Profound questions like these are the basis of The Return of the King. Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (A Cult Classic - Some will Love, Some will Hate) 『Lee Van Cleef is definitely the key feature of this film set back in the 1800s. If you don't like spaghetti westerns - and especially if you don't like the "Good, Bad Ugly" set of movies, you're going to hate this one. This is exactly in that same style, with very similar plotting and silliness. However, if you love those types of movies, you're going to have fun here.
Van Cleef is a native american who is a member of the US Army. He's investigating a mysterious plot which involves something sinister in the government. Every person he talks to seems to know about the plot but is not able to give him information. He goes from person to person, trying to determine what is going on. He gets teased about being a "red ass", is beaten up, drugged, beaten up some more, and ridiculed some more.
There's very little about being an Indian here, with perhaps the exception that people beat on him for it. He does meet up with an Indian Chief at one point, and has to strip out of his army clothes before he can be talked to.
If you're a western fan, this is definitely a DVD to rent, to see if it strikes your fancy. If you enjoy it, it can become one of those cult classics that you put on at 2am and enjoy reciting a few lines along with.』
(Fun to watch . . .) 『Make no mistake - notwithstanding a few heavyweights in the cast, this is a one star movie. But it's a lot of fun to watch . . . giving it a 4 or 5 star entertainment value.
This is a spaghetti western from the late 60's era which gave us those great Clint Eastwood flicks. This film is solidly in that genre . . . but it's kind of like the director, scriptwriter, film editor, sound editor, cameramen, et al were on drugs. A worn but accurate description would be, "This film is so bad, it's good".
I pondered whether the "comedy" was intentional. I finally decided that it was not, which makes this farce rather in the vein of the infamous "Plan 9 From Outer Space". I see that there is also a Laugh Tracks DVD out on this movie now. I'd like to see that.
Lee Van Cleef (so menacing in the Eastwood westerns) stars as a Native American U.S. Army Captain in the Old West. The storytelling is totally disjointed (which adds to the total atmosphere of the film), but basically he is investigating some high level anti-government plot. Part of his uniform is this ridiculous fringed black leather jacket with a fur collar . . . the effect of which is that he appears to be wearing a fur boa.
The editing, and the story, and the music, and the camera, jump all over the place. There is no nudity, but there is a bit of foul language and a couple of bedroom scenes (one of which includes the dialogue, "Take it easy lady, I don't want to have to blow your brains out.").
Other funny and/or eyebrow-raising exact quotes include: "Yellowsnake Canyon!? That's full of snakes!", and "I'm going to give you the privilege of whacking my horse". Hmmm.
A particulary absurd visual included the scene where Van Cleef is standing on a clifftop seeking interview with the local Indian chief. The chief refuses to talk with a man in army uniform. Van Cleef starts to remove his jacket and then (superbly bad editing adds to the effect) the image jumps to Van Cleef standing there wearing only some kind of 19th century loincloth type speedo. I about fell out of my chair.
I thought perhaps the least pronounced "bad" element of the film was the music, which consisted mostly of what seemed to be a 17 year old playing electric guitar . . . until . . . we are treated to "April Morning" sung by none other than Lee Van Cleef during the closing titles. Gloriously bad.
Did they do all this on purpose? I don't think so. Anyway, if you have any sense of humor at all, I think you'll like this one. Give it a try.』
(Beware the Ides of April morning!) 『"April Morning": two code words for impending shenanigans in this classic Lee Van Cleef film that encompass its rambling and somewhat mysteriously incoherent plot-but that's business-as-usual for a good Spaghetti Western. Mr. Van Cleef definitely had style in his Western wardrobes. His Captain Apache has one of the coolest jackets I've ever seen. Carrol Baker looks gorgeous in this, but Stuart Whitman looks tired. Lee Van Cleef looks great! He's stylin' with a rare hairpiece. As I've said before about the Spaghetti Westerns, the original theater prints had extremely vibrant colors and most VHS copies have lost this. Still, Captain Apache sports one of those kooky, great theme songs (like Return of Sabata) that fans of this genre adore. In short, a good print of this would be heaven-sent for Van Cleef fans, but as it is, its a very enjoyable sample of Lee Van Cleef in full Italian glory.』
