Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Most DVD concerts are badly fimed - Not this one!) 『The band plays well - Not quite up to the 1973 'Made In Japan' energy, but hey - they are quite a bit older now! What I really like about this DVD is the way the band was filmed. We see the band playing and enjoying themselves, and no stupid shots of gormless morons singing along in the audience! Very enjoyable show - And this gormless moron was singing along at home - But that's OK :)』
(Worth having) 『The latest in my Purple collection, I rank it fourth place. First goes to "Australia '99", second would be "Montreaux '96", and in third place I stick "Come Hell or High Water" because I have no respect for the way Blackmore presented himself. I felt the quality with Perihelion could have been much better and I felt it had a CHEAP feel to it compared to the '99 concert. Smaller stage, smaller audience, no frills and a shorter line-up of tunes. Still it was a joy to experience and I recommend it but I set the bar pretty high after their better shows. I will say I put Perihelion above their "Archive Collection" and "New, Live and Rare" which are great DVD's as well, just not high in the 'blow you away' scale.』
(Always loved Steve Morse) 『Enjoyed a tasty musical video. Steve Morse is great! As a guitar player he was one of my favorites. Always a Deep Purple fan but had no idea just how good they are. Bought some 1970's DVD's also. I don't buy many music DVD's but this was a treat. Jerry.』
(Absolutely incredible..) 『Deep Purple have always been the kings of hard rock, and in this DVD, they shine as much, if not more than they ever have before. First, the set list is great. I love seeing songs like No One Came, When A Blind Man Cries, and Fools make it in this concert.
Ian Gillan- Best hard rock singer of all time, and even though his voice is obviously not like it used to be, he makes it work, and sounds exceptionally great in Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming.
Steve Morse- This guy is a guitar God. Probably the best in the world right now, and his chemistry with the band shows in this concert. Two of the best solos I have EVER seen are Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming and When A Blind Man Cries. Absolutely amazing.
Roger Glover- This guy keeps the band together, and always plays great basslines. Also his bass solo in Speed King is MUCH better than any bass solo I've ever heard of his. Great playing, and a really good tone he has too.
Ian Paice- Holy lord. The only member of Deep Purple who has stuck with them for every lineup. And he has NOT lost his touch. Great drumming through the whole concert, and the solo in Speed King is incredible. Gotta love the one handed drum roll.
Jon Lord- Master of the hammond organ, and he is great on this dvd. My personal favorite moment is in Speed King, where he and Steve Morse switch off solos. Absolutely great keyboard playing.
Favorite Songs:
Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming Fools When A Blind Man Cries Speed King
Those 4 songs are some of the best performances I've ever seen of Deep Purple.』
(FU#@ing Out of This world) 『Man , can these guys still play. My comments to Shred baron who thinks that Ian Gillan is still a teenager and hit those high notes to perfection. Can you do 200 pushups like when you were a kid? I didn't think so. These guys are so bad ass. The songs are done great. The band is very happy. Unlike in "Come Hell or High Water" , the band looked miserable. Morse is top notch. He adds his own flavor and adds spice to the already classics and kicks ass on the newer stuff. Just get it if you are a Deep Purple fan or a fan of Hard Rock in general.』 『One of the founding members of the hard rock movement, Deep Purple rose to worldwide fame with monster hits like "Hush" and "Smoke on the Water." The group's legions of fans travel far and wide to attend their live events that feature screaming guitar riffs, screeching vocals, brilliant keyboards, dynamic drumming, and amusing stage antics, all translating into a signature Purple show and a remarkable concert experience. Songs: Woman from Tokyo, Ted the Mechanic, Mary Long, Lazy, No One Came, Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, Fools, Perfect Strangers, Hey Cisco, When a Blind Man Cries, Smoke on the Water, Speed King, Hush.』 『The Purple's reign continues with this 14-song, 102-minute concert performance (the DVD includes an additional 30 minutes of interviews), recorded in '01. This band has been at it since the '60s, and the four original members still on hand (hotshot guitarist Steve Morse replaced Ritchie Blackmore in the mid-'90s) bring admirable energy and surprisingly sharp chops to the stage. There's something slightly discomfiting about watching singer Ian Gillan try to shriek his way through riff-heavy standards like "Woman from Tokyo," "Hush," "Highway Star," and the inevitable "Smoke on the Water" as if he were still just a lad, but for the most part he pulls it off; meanwhile, Jon Lord's keyboards and Gillan's efforts to write lyrics about something other than sex and partying help separate Deep Purple's sound from the rest of the metal throng. So you can't go home again. But Deep Purple show that you can at least book a ticket.--Sam Graham』
IPhone 3G used's review (Creepy low-key horror film, crappy DVD, ripoff price.) 『ISLAND OF THE DEAD appears to be a made-for-cable or TV movie, shot in Canada. You can tell because the screen fades to black every 15 minutes or so for the commercial break.
This is a very low budget affair, making for a very low-key horror film. It's supposedly set on New York City's Hart's Island (where the city runs a potter's field for burying the impoverished or unidentified dead), but NYC can't be seen over the horizon as the ferry crosses the water. Just an insert shot of Manhattan at film's start to set the location.
Then there's the shot where Talisa Soto (who plays a cop) walks down Manhattan, glass skyscrapers behind her. She looks across at a ghetto-like street with boarded-up buildings. Obviously not shot on the same location. Editing those two shots together was truly unconvincing.
Story concerns evil rich man Malcolm McDowell (playing a casino owner/developer named "The Rupert" -- as in, "The Donald" Trump), who is building a low-income community on the island -- with sinister motives. He arrives on Hart's Island with an entourage and these evil flies attack. But they do so after most of the entourage has left, so there are very few actors on this island to attack. Just The Rupert and a handful of cops and prisoners burying the dead on potter's field.
Here's some sloppy story-telling: seems the flies only want to kill The Rupert, because when he dies, they stop. Talisa Soto marvels that the flies were after him. But then ... why did the flies kill several other people earlier in the film, and ignore The Rupert?
Anyway, the flies' bite is deadly, causing you to puff up in a disgusting manner before you die. Not a real gory film, but there is some creepy atmosphere. It actually helps that the low budget only allowed for a few actors. The location is nice -- a deserted island with abandoned buildings and grave markers. And the gray Canadian sky helps -- very much like in THE X-FILES. It's obviously not New York, but it makes for a decent horror film. Not great, but decent.
I disagree with the reviewer who said Talisa Soto looks old. She looks quite young, still. However, she looks awfully thin. Her face is so tight and thin, it's almost skull-like. I'd heard a story from a film industry friend that on the set of VAMPIRILLA, Soto was so thin, they had trouble keeping her costume from slipping off.
Somebody get this girl a milkshake and fries, fast!
The DVD is remarkably crappy, in that there is NO MENU. No special features, not even a scene selection. You pop in the DVD and go straight to the movie. Really, how hard is it to create a menu, with maybe some cast notes and scene selection?
Without even a menu, this DVD should be selling at the bargin bin price of $1.99 -- $3.99 max.
The DVD is full screen, but as this is likely a TV movie, that's likely the original screen format.』
(morally righteous and good characterization) 『it's hard to find movies like this anymore. 2001 release. It will be too hard for kids to understand and some wives might get bored because there's not a lot of action in the onset. No offense. It tells a story. The story is of an English billionaire who was trying to turn Hart's Island , which I've seen by the way, into a state backed housing and work unit for the un-adjusted in society, the same way that they used to bury them there , the no names, unidenifiable, etc.. there is no gore in this movie.. just maggots and insects. They wreak vengeance upon those that would intrude upon their resting place. I thought the cast was stellar but the production could have been better. Malcolm McDowell is a great actor that is spurned by modern Hollywood. Every single person was believable in the role, but I have to give it 4 stars because the message and the poignancy of it were a bit lost, and left for the viewer to understand, a bit more summary would have been apt. I blame the director for that .. the message is still there ( do not tread upon the dead ) but it could have been more forecefully done. Again, the cast was totally believable and congrats to those who starred here.』
(Absolutely ridiculous.....) 『I just finished watching this movie about 12 minutes ago and I am still disappointed. The description of this movie is misleading, there are no zombies, no ravenous anythings, just stupidity laced with boredom. I waited for almost an hour for something to happen in this movie, and still nothing.
It starts out as if it is going to be a good movie but it's a lie. Im sure you've read the previous reviews you know the plot, or lack there of. There was one interesting part of the entire movie, and that was when the comic relief died. Now this means two things. For one, it took place in the middle of the movie so that meant the other half is a waste. Second, now there is no entertainment what so ever as far as dialog goes. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! 』
("Uhhh.......whens the good part coming") 『SUCKED!!!!! A guy buys an Island that is used to bury John Does, and other unknown people, to put up some place to help the homeless. Then, here comes the scariest part, a bunch of flies scare em away. I thought this was gonna be at least a semi-decent zombie film, but I was SOOOOOOOOOOO wrong. What happens? (counting), 5-6 people die by FLIES. Oooooh scary. This movie pisses me off. DONT BUY IT!!!!!! I waited an hour for something some what interesting to happen and the movies like an Hour and a half long. SUCKED!!!!! if I could have given it -1000000000000000000000001 stars I would. Oh yeah, if anyone wants to buy this from me for 6 bucks contact me through my e-mail.』
(BAD BAD BAD movie!) 『Watched this tripe last night. I heard supposed good things about it when they were making it. BAD BAD BAD movie! Children of the Dead level of bad.
First off, Talisa Soto is one fine looking specimen, but she's aged to a point where she can't pull off either Lara Croft or Vampirella, both of which were modeling gigs she had when she was younger. She even played Vampirella in the horrible movie version with Roger Daltrey as the heavy.
I don't know what they thought they were doing when they made this movie. The locale, Harts Island, is sufficiently creepy. A million bodies, mostly of the indigent have been buried there and should make for a good creepfest, except it isn't used much.
The bad guys are flies which are never seen clearly, although sometimes their perspective is employed by jerky camera moves that detract very strongly from the story. These jerk action moves are very obviously done on a tripod as all the jerks are across one direction or span. Whats more, the actual cinematography is poor. Sometimes, there would be a sweep across abandonned buildings (which we are told in an interesting story onc e housed the quarantined sick and then, later, the mad. This plotline is never brought up again) that goes right to left and then, inexplicably reversed halfway. Bad filming.
The flies themselves are laughable and there is no gore worth watching.
We should have a separate discussion about any movie starring Malcolm "If-Theres-A-Check-Involved-I-am-So-There" McDowell. He phones in his performance, pretty much like he's done in every movie since Tank Girl (last decent performance from him that I saw).
It has NOTHING to do with the Dead Universe, despite the title. Some people do die but their deaths are ridiculous.
The only person worth watching was the island manager, who actually was kind of interesting. I've never seen him before, have no idea what his name is, but he was pretty cool.
Mos Def is also in the movie, for the inane rap music connection.』

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (GREAT SINGING... POOR STAGING) 『For lovers of verismo Opera this is a feast. The three leads are in great form at (or near) the peak of their illustrious careers and Nello Santi conducts with firm hand and understandig a music that, let's face it, it is not that great, though has thrilling opprtunities for the singers to show off their vocal prowess and it can provide good (if unsubtle) drama. A kind of minor Tosca, an opera that resembles somewhat in style and plot. Domingo sings with power and beautifullly and if he lacks the squillo of Corelli, he finds unique moments of tenderness. Benacková is a worthy partner in their duets, singing with refinement and passion, and her Mamma Morta, in her own way, is as moving and powerful as any, including, yes, Callas' justly famous rendering. Finally Cappuccili almost steals the show with his pull-out-all-the-stops performance, particularly hisNemico de la Patria. The big dissapointment is the very poor and unimaginative staging, which manages to be messy, bad looking and boring. The stage director deserved the booing you can clearly hear at the curtain calls from the usually well behaved Viennese audience. The picture looks good enough for a 1981 ORF telecast and the sound is very good. Get it for the great singing and just ignore the stage bussiness. Thankfully the TV cameras concentrate on the singers in close-ups most of the time. PS. I have to disagree with the previous reviewer regarding the extension of the applause. I am sure it was somehow edited, but luckly enough was left to feel the excitment of live Opera with a live audience. In great nights the appaluse is an important part of the performance as it happened.』
(An older (1981) recording with Domingo in his prime) 『Musically, I would give this DVD 5 stars, but a few problems detract from the musical excellence. First, the applause after the major arias goes on much too long. Such applause may be acceptable in the theater, but on a DVD should have been edited so it was shorter. Second, I am given the impression that the director didn't bother to read the libretto, since Benackova (Maddalene de Coigny in the opera) had dark brown hair even though the libretto described her as a blond. I have to wonder how Gerard's spy was able to find her since he was told to look for a "blue eyed blond." It is minor details like this that can make what could have been an excellent performance into one that is just very good.』

Not yet released IPhone 3G used's review (Matlcok is back in the court and on DVD for Season 2) 『Matlock, the show about a well educated country lawyer Ben Matlock who hardly ever loses a case, returns to DVD in this second season installment. Nancy Stafford joins the crew as Michelle Thomas, replacing Linda Purl's character of of Charlene Matlock (who I believe was a weak character anyway). The second season begins with a two part episode entitled "The Billionaire," and ends with Allison Tate, an heiress charged with murder in the episode, "The Heiress." The following is a list of this season's 24 episodes:
1. The Billionaire (1) 2. The Billionaire (2) 3.Blind Justice 4. The Annihilator 5. The Husband 6. The Power Brokers (1) 7. The Power Brokers (2) 8. The Network 9. The Best Friend 10. The Country Boy 11. The Gift 12. The Gambler 13. The Body 14. The Reunion 15. The Gigolo 16. The Umpire 17. The Investigation (1) 18. The Investigation (2) 19. The Hucksters 20. The Lovelorn 21. The Genius 22. The Magician 23. The Fisherman 24. The Heiress
While the acting, directing, and producing of this show is great (making Matlock worthy to be deemed a modern "classic"), the fact that CBS/Paramount is releasing this set is the reason I can only give it four stars. Likely, we will have edited episodes, and cheap packaging. One should consider this before buying.』 『Matlockis a legal drama series starring Andy Griffith as defense attorney Ben Matlock - a Harvard-educated, fiery southerner who charges $100,000 a case to brilliantly defend his clients by finding the real killer.』

I had no intention of trying yoga again until ankle pain forced me to try some type of non-weigh-bearing exercise. Despite my hesitancy, the wonderful reviews for Fat Free Yoga encouraged me to try the DVD.
I fell in love with this DVD from the first workout! I can hardly believe that I actually look forward to doing the yoga routine daily. I've only been using it for about two weeks but already my posture has improved, as well as my balance and flexibility.
My favorite part is the relaxation and meditation after each exercise. Ana demonstrates each movement so it is easy to follow. Ravi gives excellent instruction so that once you've viewed the DVD a few times you can do it without even watching the screen -- which is helpful because many of the exercises are done with your eyes closed! Ravi's voice is so soothing and I always feel both invigorated and relaxed after a workout.
The matrix feature is wonderful because you can choose your favorite segments in the order you choose, or just play one or two if time is an issue. I think the No Impact Aerobics and the Deep Relaxation segments are my favorites.
If you've been reluctant to try yoga, I encourage you to try this video. You'll probably find yourself falling in love with yoga and purchasing more of Ravi and Ana's DVD's like I have!』
(Give it a try-you won't regret it) 『If you are new to kundalini yoga give this one a try. This is the one I started with and I've been hooked ever since. Fat Free Yoga has changed my life. Kundalini yoga is whole different type of yoga-much different than the hatha yoga I was used to. It's very challenging, yet I feel so relaxed after I'm done. I feel loosened up from head to toe. It has really loosened up my spine and improved my posture. I feel like my sinuses clear up after all the breath of fire and I can breathe more deeply. My body literally hums for the rest of the day and I have so much energy.
The four 20 min segments are great if you want to shorten it up or if you are short on time but I find that even if I only plan to do one or two of them I almost always end up doing the whole thing. Once I start I just don't want to stop. The time flies by!
I have all but two of Ravi&Ana's workouts and this is one of my favorites as well as Yoga Bliss Hips, A Journey through the Chakras&Navel Power. So if you don't own this one already, get it now!』
(Be still my inner critic! This DVD is fantastic!) 『I was excited when I read so many positive reviews about this DVD, and am happy to say that they are all right! I have never loved a Yoga program like this one. I even find myself doing some of the moves in my office for a quick pick-me-up. I also bought the Yoga Bliss Hips and like that one very much too!
』
(Best workouts I have ever done! Works Mind Body and Soul) 『I initially bought Fat Free Yoga for my mom who is in her mid 50's. My sister's and I have been encouraging her for years to walk, exercise, to do SOMETHING, but to no avail she just wasn't motivated to keep up with any of it. From day ONE, she loved the low impact workouts. And I did too!
I am not a novice to working out having done the whole gym scene, classes, running, etc and nothing has ever made such an effective and dramatic difference in my mind and body. I can see it in my mom too; she is actually EXCITED to work out!!! We are calmer, more focused, and overall happier! It goes without saying that we went ahead and got 2 more of Ana and Ravi's DVD's - Dance the Chakras, and Warrior Workout.
In only about 2 months time, we have lost weight and inches. Even if you don't see an immediate difference in your body, there will be an immediate difference in your mind and soul - you WILL FEEL FANTASTIC. I highly recommend this DVD to ANYONE, at any age!! Best $20 I have ever spent. : )』
(GREAT FOR ANY WEIGHT) 『I live with a yoga teacher and have a collection of about 50 different videos. This is one of the most played videos I have. I really like all of Ravi and Ana's videos. The videos are easy to follow because Ravi instructs while Ana demonstrates. Like many of Ravi's videos, this video is divided up into 4 seventeen minute sessions(note I have the older video tape version). The video is designed so that people can do any where from 1 to 4 sessions. I like the convenience of being able to do 1 or 2 sessions on mornings when I am in a rush. I find that this tape will energize me for the rest of the day. Each session provides an opportunity to enjoy a total body workout including meditation and breathing.』 『NOW WITH THE ALL NEW DESIGN YOUR OWN WORKOUT MATRIX MENU OPTIONExperience Kundalini Yoga's sophisticated approach to effortless conditioning. Breathe, move, stretch, relax, meditate, celebrate! Boost your metabolism. Slim down, tone and feel inspired. These workouts and meditations will help you optimize your glandular system, bring emotional healing, reduce problem areas, and help you attain your personal ideal. This conveniently chaptered 90 min. DVD offers four 20 min. workouts (plus two meditations) to help you reshape your body and your life! This DVD starts with a breathing exercise for energizing and to curb impulsive habit patterns. Then the first segment Start Your Engines, features exercises to boost metabolism. Our favorite is the cardio warm-up called 'Ravi Rolls' with the breath of fire. The Fight Fire w/Fire segment focuses on abdominal strengthening and toning. These are exercises anyone can do, but you will really feel the burn. Segment 3: No Impact Aerobics really gets your circulation moving. You haven't lived until you've tried Frog Pose and Piston Pose! Your Life is in Your Own Glands will optimize hormonal balance. The two meditations on this DVD are for calming and emotional healing. The soothing Breath Meditation w/Hands Like a Teapot is more relaxing than a day at the spa! This DVD is for all levels. Modifications are given so that everyone can always participate. Long time yogis will find much new material to add to their yoga repertoire. This DVD features an inspired musical score by Tom Carden.』
