Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (The Blind Monk is So Good!) 『This film introduces the memorable character of a blind monk who is Zatoichi's better in terms of using his non-sight senses. This offers and interesting glimpse into Zato's world as a blind man and the blind in general during pre-modern Japan.
Zato, as usual, finds himself caught up in some injustice and sorts things out with his sword. This is another beautifully done entrant into Ichi lore.』
(#13: ZATOICHI, TO DRAW THE SWORD OR NOT!) 『The 13th entry of Zatoichi starring Shintaro Katsu is a truly excellent film. The title, ZATOICHI'S VENGEANCE, is also an apt title for this wonderful film. Zatoichi meets a travelling, blind priest who questions Zatoichi's life: By telling Ichi to put away his sword. And although the ending is predictable as far a the Zatoichi series goes, this one adds a little more depth to the character Ichi, and the character actors in the film as well.
One of the many highlights of the film is when the villians who take on Zatoichi, do so with more intelligence than one would expect. For example, they beat upon drums to confuse his heightened sense of awareness--knowing that his ears have become his eyes, so to speak. About time someone figured that out. He has definetly become a feared and respected opponent. His reputation has become too well known, and no longer is he some blind masseur who can be easily slain.
Also, when Ichi is being beaten up in the film by the villians, he does not act against his agressors. He is protecting the young boy in his charge with more than just physical abuse by not reacting: Ichi does not want to show violence in front of the child. Maybe to set an example for the young boy? The young boy in the film looks up to Ichi. Is Ichi trying to set an example by turning the other cheek? As with the end of the film, when Ichi leaves the child, he does so for the boys sake. He knows that he is not the example the boy needs in his life. And as such, he shows that he is truly an example of a decent and honorable swordsman, whom others should have emulated. Highly recommended. [Stars: 5+]

Both 10 and 13 are terrific movies, but I will need to rewatch them to do a better review. And I would like to do one large review of both since it will end up listed in both places. Meanwhile, I have done reviews for Vols. 1 and 8 of this series, if you would like to know what I think about them.

(Vol. 13 - One of the Best of the Series, as Far as Unique Elements) 『*(This review was posted for Vol. 13, and is meant for Vol. 13, but is also showing up for Vol. 10, as several other reviewers have pointed out.)*
Like the other movies in the Zatoichi series, this story features strong female characters, exciting and well-staged swordplay, tasteful violence (no blood and gore), and our hero only killing when absolutely forced to. While there is nothing new to the basic storyline of this movie - Ichi saving townspeople and merchants from a band of evil men - there are many unique and surprising elements to this tale which set it apart from the others.
First, the ingenuity of Ichi's adversaries in using drums to hinder his hearing is somewhat surprising. Normally, his opponents are not quite that clever.
Also, the swordsmanship (skill and technique) is significantly raised to a much more intricate level when Ichi fights the samurai. This is a noticeable difference from the simplicity he usually employs against more the common/obscure swordsman he generally faces.
Another unexpected surprise is the amount of abuse Ichi is willing to take before acting to defend himself. He is bloodied and bruised when severely beaten; yet, he does not act, seemingly because he does not want to have to kill in front of a child, or risk provoking the evildoers into more extreme action against those he is trying to protect.
The addition of Ichi slipping and falling on the stairs at the end of the movie really showcases his vulnerability, reminding us that even heroes stumble.
One of the female characters, the wife of the innkeeper, demonstrates even more strength than the women in other films of this series: Though they beat and threaten her, she is able to stand up to her harassers.
Many other characters are given a great deal of depth, which allows us to have a better understanding of their motives, adding dimension and accentuating their flaws to make them interesting. For example, the scorn shown by the child (whose previous admiration and emulation bordered on reverence) when Ichi allows himself to be punched, kicked, and humiliated instead of killing his tormentors as he easily could. Another example is the prostitute's judgment of her love in calling him a drunk and her subsequent lapse into drunkenness after his death.
The silhouette scene, which includes fighting and drumming against a dusky sky, is tremendously beautiful.
As in other Ichi films, extremely creative and surprising swordplay is featured such as the tip of a lit candle balanced perfectly on the end of a sword to illuminate the faces of the "animal" bullies, slicing a hilt from its blade while the sword is still in the scabbard at his opponent's waist, taking out several bad guys while protecting the child in his arms, and deftly cutting the bonds of the innkeeper's wife without causing her injury.
Finally, the sadness in our hero's face at the number of people he is forced to kill in this movie is extremely exquisite and touching, and seems to be more intense than similar emotions he expresses in other adventures. We feel Ichi's pain very deeply from what he is forced to do at this stage in his journey, particularly when he kills the samurai.
Though there is sadness in this story, it is one of the most interesting, surprising, and beautifully filmed movies of the Zatoichi series.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Very Poor Instruction) 『Very disappointing DVD. Sadly, this DVD offers very little useful instruction. Although there are four sections, Beginner, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, each section offers one short set of dance steps that are merely repeated from various angles for roughly 13 minutes. While the professional dancers repeat the moves, some poor narration comes in to offer the actual instruction. In fact, the Gold level is really just a repeat of the Silver level with stylistic elements added. So, if one copies the dancers exactly, one can "dance like a star" for about ten seconds. Then one just has to repeat the movements ad infinitum.
I already know a little Rumba, so I was initially very excited to see that upper level moves were listed in the menu, but quite honestly, I already know the moves, as they are quite simple and were covered in my beginning level of rumba lessons. Stylistically, the pros show them at the height of competition style, which is fun to see and emulate, but as I said, the style is higher level, not the actual dance steps. So, I think it's false to list them as upper level moves. (Actually, the Silver and Gold dance steps are the same, so really no steps are added for Gold, it's just a little more stylized.)
Very disappointing and not worth the $12.99, as there are better DVDs available, which are also perfectly danced by professionals.
Furthermore, this DVD includes extras that are quite silly: small bios of the two dancers, and video tour of Cuba (while the narrators talks about the origins of rumba), which includes lots of old cars and some run-down tenements and a woman in the water in a thong bathing suit, oh, yes, and there were a couple of shots of original rumba come to think of it.
This is really a useless DVD. A more useful DVD for absolute beginners is Invitation to Dance: Latin Dance, and I'm still looking for a DVD with more advanced moves.

Usually ships in 24 hours IPhone 3G used's review (Blood Relation...) 『A family dinner is interrupted by three murderous criminals on the run. Said felons barge in, take the family hostage, and spend the evening terrifying and tormenting them. Eventually, innocent people are killed. What these home-invaders don't know is that the bed-bound, invalid auntie upstairs is in reality a very dangerous person indeed. She has mystical powers that prove fatal to the marauding trio. AUNT ROSE is a solid example of ultra-low budget film-making done right. The family is believable, the thugs are reprehensible, and the story is simple, but engaging. To me, the standout is singer / performance artiste, Velocity Chyaldd. She plays the wicked Robin w/ a sensual fervor that brought a smile. The rest of the cast was good as well, especially the menacing Joshua Nelson, Elizabeth Cooke, and the surprising Rayne Brown. So, if you're up for a night of cheap cinamatic thrills, AUNT ROSE should get you through...』
(Aunt Rose is possesed or is she a demon witch ...errr or both..) 『The acting was just too horrible to overcome. There is a few topless scenes with one having a girl who turns into a demon but she seems uncomfortable with it almost stuttering her lines taking herself out of character, which really ruined the scene(there is plenty of this going on here)Tons of forced and just straight out plain bad acting make what could have been not(i usually like schlock bmovies with bad acting but damn!!!)The idea of the crazy aunt was good but the movie just stinks every where else. I really had a hard time getting past some of the really poorly executed dialouge spit out by the actors. No fun to be had with this bad acting only boredom and self pity for watching most of this movie through, which was not an easy task. Save your 8 bucks and get some other cheapie like Basket Case or Wizard of Gore which run about the same price and are easily worth the low price.』
(Unrealized potential, but with a few bright spots.) 『Aunt Rose (James Tucker, 2005)
Yet another no-budget horror movie with some great ideas, but not enough execution to carry them off. In this one, we follow the parallel stories of a trio of malcontents, Johnny (Joshua Nelson, also responsible for the script), Stewie (voice actor Kevin T. Collins), and Robin (Vulgaras lead vocalist Velocity Chayaldd) and an all-American dysfunctional family until the two collide in a home invasion. The thing is that said dysfunctional family are not exactly what you'd call entirely normal, and the invaders get more than they bargained for.
The ugliest thing about this movie is by far the acting, which ranges from passably decent (Nelson and Elizabeth Cooke, who plays the daughter in the family) to downright horrible (a minor character in the opening scene, and Aunt Rose [Marty Gargle] herself). The inconsistency in delivery makes what seems as if it must have been an interesting script less than it could have been. The special effects are uniformly horrid (once again, that opening scene sets the tone for the movie, though the movie does get a great deal better than that in most respects); one particular scene involving an opened throat is perhaps the silliest use of rubber prosthetics I've seen since Stuart Gordon's hilarious take on Dagon. There's not much else to speak of in the way of technology; Tucker uses a pretty small collection of sets here, so the cinematography work never has much of a chance to rise above the level of competent (and it is always competent), the lighting is well above average for this level of production, the editing is decent, etc.
So in the end, a number of flaws undermine what is otherwise a fun movie. I can't recommend it without hesitation, but if you're not the kind of person to consider the marks against listed above as showstoppers, you'll probably get a kick out of this. Oh, and one other thing: if you're not fond of porcelain dolls, skip the opening title sequence (they never show up again). ** 』
(Better than alot of the Horror Flicks i have seen..) 『This movie was great. The acting was good, the story was interesting, the effects were believable. As far a s low budget horror goes...This is a masterpiece. I enjoyed it.』
(Low budget? Try NO budget...) 『One of the worst movies I have ever seen. A whole lot of talk and very little action. I love cheesy horor films, but this absolutely sucked. Joshua Nelson is hot, but there are no scenes with him so much as shirtless, so there is no point whatsoever to seeing this film. And what kind of name is Velocity Chyaldd? Jeez...』 『When three vicious killers take refuge in a calm suburban home, they are prepared to wreak havoc on anyone who gets in their way. (VERY Disappointing...) 『I found this very disappointing; I borrowed this from a friend, and good thing, too, because if I had known prior what the content would consist of, I would not have purchased it. Nearly the entire 45 minutes is devoted to a very inane "interview" with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons (Gene looks incredibly bored, he barely moved and said nothing for the first 10 minutes).
The dialogue is pretty much standard, by-the-book Paul and Gene shtick: saying over and over again how they'll do anything for their fans, how so many other bands have been influenced by them, being in complete denial that the then-current incarnation of the band had anything to do with (or owed anything to) the original lineup, blah blah, on and on. The only bright spot is when Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick are given a combined 3 minutes to speak (how generous of Paul and Gene to do that), and I, like a majority of the people who reviewed this DVD am greatly disappointed that Eric Carr was barely given any mention; especially considering that Carr had passed away not long before this "interview" was done; out of sight, out of mind! How sad...
Overall, this is poorly produced and just another way for Paul and Gene to glorify themselves for the umpteenth time. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone; don't waste your time or money.』
(They're Rock&Roll Legends but this DVD aint Legendary:p) 『All I hear about this DVD is great reviews, about the rare footage etc. I love rare footage as much as the next KISS fan especially of all the eras (Make-up&No Makeup). And this DVD is pretty rare in Australia, so I went crazy when I found it in this small little music store! The price was a lot more than your normal DVD (Multi-Region), so I gave it some thought before buying it, read the back of the pack a couple of times, remembering what other people thought of it. I said Yeah! I've got all the other KISS DVD's that are available in Australia&this one is from the 90 - 93 era this one should be great! Eric Carr was even on the cover for once!, so I bought it and to my horror, found out it was only 45 minutes long!!!! The back of the package didn't even have the nerve to say how long this feature was! So you'd think they're gonna jam a hell of a lot of rare concert footage that's never been seen before with the backstage interviews right? WRONG! Sure you've got some great footage here, but the footage has no audio, and only lasts for about 2 seconds each time! And there isn't much of that either!
It's interesting to listen to what Paul and Gene (and later on Eric Singer and Bruce) have to say backstage but we've heard it all before and for this price and feature length... Oh man, don't even bother with it.
It gets pretty depressing just watching Paul and Gene seated (hardly moving at all) and just talking chit-chat for so long. Oh yeah, even though Eric Carr is on the cover of this title, they haven't included any Eric Carr 1990 interviews which adds to the disappointment.』

(THE INVADERS #2: The Believers come out!) 『You are about to witness the second and final season (1967-1968) of Quinn Martin's sci-fi series "The Invaders", produced by Alan Armer and whose new associate producer named David W. Rintells revises the series' original concept by introducing a team of experts called "The Believers", led by financier/industrialist Edgard Scoville (played by Kent Smith) who support the struggle of architect David Vincent (played by Roy Thinnes).
A new team of composers popsup under the direction of jazzman Duane Tatro who writes six scores. A fine writer named Laurence Heath (former "Mission: Impossible" writer and story consultant) puts to pen four scripts: the mind control intrigue "Condition: Red" (guest starring Jason Evers, Antoinette Bower and Mort Mills), the Soviet-oriented plot "The Captive" (guest starring Fritz Weaver and Dana Wynter), "Counterattack" (guest starring Anna Capri and Lin McCarthy) and perhaps' the season most challenging story "The Life Seekers" (guest starring Barry Morse and Diana Muldaur) in which David Vincent meets a couple of pacifist invaders willing to reform the politics of their society.
Find a selection of shocking episodes dealing with mental cruel acts as "Valley of the Shadow" (an entire town is reprogrammed to forget the presence of the invaders, guest starring Nan Martin, Harry Townes and Joe Maross), "Dark Outpost" (in which four students are brainwashed to see one of them executed in different ways, guest starring William Sargent, Andrew Prine and Whit Bissell), "The Possessed" (in wich an alien conditions the brain of a scientist to kill at will as a Pavlov's dog, guest starring Michael Tolan, Michael Constantine and William Smithers), "The Pit" (in which the invaders fashion a dream machine to turn scientists into madmen inside a Research Center, guest starring Charles Aidman, Joanne Linville and Donald Harron) and "The Pursued" (the unofficial sequel to "The Mutation" in which a female invader is the victim of a failed experiment and cannot control her wild impulses, guest starring Suzanne Pleshette, Dana Elcar and Will Geer). Two episodes try to depict the true form of the invaders: "The Spores" (guest starring Gene Hackman) which makes a veiled reference to alien seed pods from Don Siegel's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "The Enemy" (guest starring Richard Anderson).』
(The best 1960's drama series of it's kind!) 『The Invaders - Season Two
Roy Thinnes stars in the second and final season of the excellent science fiction drama series developed by Larry Cohen called The Invaders. For those of you not familiar with this franchise, the premise deals with one man's discovery of and subsequent battle with malevolent aliens who appear human on the surface. The show combines elements of Quinn Martin's chase series The Fugitive with concepts developed in prior films like I Married A Monster From Outer Space and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
There are 26 episodes on 7 DVDs to be released in region 1 January 27, 2009. Extras at this writing most likely will include individual show introductions recorded this year by Roy Thinnes in New York City. Roy is a New Yorker now and working on matters to do with his artwork.
Some major character actors appear in the second season of the series, including Gene Hackman as an alien "seed salesman"; Fritz Weaver as an Iron Curtain ambassador; Carol Lynley as a collaborator with the aliens; R.G. Armstrong makes his second appearance this time as a cop; Diana Muldaur as a "good" alien; Michael Rennie makes another appearance as an alien posing as a Scandinavian ambassador; Ed Asner appears once again, this time playing a corrupt father; Richard Anderson of Perry Mason and Six Million Dollar Man fame stars as an alien who learns about human emotions and pain; and Suzanne Pleshette of The Birds and Bob Newhart fame reprises her role (of a sort) as an "emotional" alien. Many other key actors of that classic era of television make appearances, including Ed Begley, Wayne Rogers (who later found fame in M*A*S*H) and Laurence Naismith to name a few.
The show is known for having prioritized drama over special effects, with adult, plausible scripts. As with most, if not all Quinn Martin productions, the show took itself very seriously, with little humor and much melodrama. The music, primarily fueled by Dominic Frontiere's enigmatic theme, often propelled the show. The special effects were sparse, but intelligently done. The most famous visual elements were the alien immolation death scenes and the somewhat rare but trademark classic flying saucer appearances.
Season 2 is also notable for more adult themes, specifically some politics ("Summit Meeting" Part 1 and 2) and revealing banter in a court case ("The Trial"). Some scenes might be considered humorous by today's audiences. An example would be a scene in "The Pit" where a group of aliens bang their famous unbendable fourth fingers on the glass of a phone booth. Nevertheless, the show is solid drama with an interesting mix of science fiction elements.

The price for this set is VERY reasonable compared to most other classic series being released. In fact, the price in Amazon's current pre-order (as of this writing) is $2 less than Season 1's 5 disc set.
The colors are rich and somewhat "technicolor" in appearance. While the mastering is from electronic sources as opposed to the original 35mm film elements, the episodes are clean intact as originally broadcast, averaging 51 minutes each, unlike many hour-long series of today, which range from about 42 to 44 minutes on average.

Pretty heady stuff for a 27-year-old from south Philadelphia who had just quit his last job teaching elementary school and released his first-ever album. Critics and music buffs alike were so enamored by his quiet, understated but soulful singing style that it seemed he could do no wrong.
This performance, recorded on August 10, 2005, captures all the gems from that first album and then some. Possibly nothing sums it up better than the simply beautiful Arms Of A Woman, which sounds like an instant classic that could ve come from the likes of Ray Charles. Unlike Ray, Amos was a late bloomer, more interested in basketball than music, until he majored in English in college and tried his hand at songwriting to fine-tune his poetry. Working in a jazz record store and listening to Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk only deepened his passion to pursue his own musical muse. Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight runs the gamut, and Bottom Of The Barrel is a place we can all relate to.』

He works comedy as a professionist.

(Hated it, Hated it, Hated it.....) 『I saw Michael on a few other programs and he was hilarious, so I decided to check this DVD out. First of all, it starts out showing the most ignorant black people on the planet. Then, he goes on and on about how much money he has...after about 25 minutes I did not have one single laugh, I took out of DVD player. Thank god I rented it from Blockbuster, if it had been good I would have purchased for my collection. Maybe next time, cause this one was not funny at all.』
